Kim Sae-ron joins Nam Joo-hyuk in Dazzling Temptation

MBC’s new Monday-Tuesday melodrama Dazzling Temptation has cast its leads — or at least their childhood counterparts, who will open the series in an extended 10-episode backstory. Kim Sae-ron (High School: Love On) has signed on to play the younger heroine, while Nam Joo-hyuk (Who Are You—School 2015) is considering an offer to play the younger hero. Strangely they seem like a familiar pairing, maybe because they both recently did high school dramas.

The new series is a 50-episode contemporary drama from the writer of Gold Rainbow and May Queen and the director of Mama and Level 7 Civil Servant, about two high school classmates who grow up and end up becoming stepmother and daughter.

The melodrama will be about human ambition and desire, and “the double-edged sword of truth and revenge, used to gain power in a moving fortress.” That… is a whole lot of metaphor, and I don’t even know if truth and revenge are two sides of any one thing, but okay. The drama has undergone many working titles like Their Fortress and Moving Fortress, so the castle/fortress motif must be central, if vague.

Kim Sae-ron has been cast to play the leading character, a young girl who grows up without any concept of money but develops a keen sense of touch at the age of four, enough to tell the difference between coins by touch. (I hope they don’t mean by size, because that seems quite un-extraordinary.)

We’re not told how this becomes of use in her future, but the drama will focus on the jealousy and strife between the two female leads, and the revenge mission of the man they both love. I don’t know if I can handle that much melodrama — maybe I’ll watch Kim Sae-ron’s backstory portion and pretend they grow up and live happily ever after?

Dazzling Temptation follows Hwajeong in October.

Why is NJH always paired with underage actresses. His chemistry was so cute with Seulgi.

Can't wait for Cheese in the trap with him as Euntaek. He's gonna have Bora who will at least be similar to his age (hopefully, if they cast the right actress. I actually wish Seulgi will play Bora. She will be awesome at it)

10 episodes is the better part of most miniseries-length dramas but the writer's antecedents suggest this is going to be makjang to the core anyway.

and Nam Joo-hyuk is going to have to serve as the young lead for that long, while paired with a teenage actress who can act circles around people ten years older than her. Since that worked out so well in School 2015.....

Awwww this is such a cute pairing. I love Kim Sae-ron - who doesn't? - so I'm happy she gets to do a large portion of the childhood parts. Now I'm definitely watching the first 10 episodes!

She's getting to be so beautiful. Quite an age difference there, I agree, but it's the childhood portion so it should be fine. Her stint in Can You Hear My Heart was a case of a childhood portion of a drama I wasn't bored to tears by. Maybe the only case.

Moving Fortress? What the hell is that supposed to mean?

This drama looks really uninteresting and the same ol' long-running melodrama.

Telling the difference between coins regardless of size doesn't seem extraordinary at all. I can do it.

A good strategy for me as well, GF.

“I don’t know if I can handle that much melodrama — maybe I’ll watch Kim Sae-ron’s backstory portion and pretend they grow up and live happily ever after?” - and that what I did with Golden rainbow. I left with Kim Yoonjung.

I'm not sure what happened to NJH because he was not that bad in surplus princess? And now they pair him with Kim Saeron? Yikes, as if it was not enough pairing him with Kim Sohyun in School.

I really want Nam Joo-hyuk and Kim Seul-gi to pair up again :(

Sadly I don't think that's ever possible, seeing how our fave Seul-gi is stuck in second and third lead territory while this handsome newbie is getting offers to headline buzz-filled dramas left and right.
