Lee Jong-seok considers crime movie One Line

It looks like Lee Jong-seok (Pinocchio) might be headed back to the big screen in a long con — he’s considering an offer to headline a new crime movie called One Line, as the leader of a ring that runs an insurance scam. You could probably sell a lot of fake insurance with a pretty face like that. I’m sure it’ll be way darker than this, but all I can picture when I think of flower boy + insurance is Yoon Doo-joon’s tracksuit-wearing, noona-flattering insurance salesman in Let’s Eat.

The project will be the feature film debut of director Yang Kyung-mo, who won an award for his short film at the 2015 Mise-en-scene Short Film Festival. There’s not a lot of plot detail beyond the basic premise: It’s a crime movie about a large-scale insurance con, and if he signs on, Lee Jong-seok would play the ringleader who carries out the scam. I wonder if it’s more of a crime caper than a gritty thriller, which is just a guess based on the casting.

Lee Jong-seok’s reps were quick to say that he’s just considering it as one of many projects, though I’m curious if it’ll influence his possible drama return in KBS’s Beautiful Mind. I guess I sorrrrta prefer a bad boy con artist to a geeeenius doctor who may or may not have a split personality? But really, why are these the choices when romantic comedy hero would make me so happy?

One Line plans to start shooting this winter for a release next year.

He is in crime movie? Anyway I will follow all his works. But, I wish he will play in a drama because his name was rumors and fans' choices most of new dramas these days.

Thank gawdddd. He needs to get back to doing movies, it's been much too long. I get that Lee Jong Sukie is the resident noona killer and all but at this point in his career and with two shows in the past year it's best for his career and health his next project is a movie. He can go back to doing drama's in 2016

And Seo In Guk, i wish they had another project together they both have so much aegyo and they have almost similar personalities minus Jon Suks attention phobia

Seems I was mistaken about the schedule too. He only had the measurement/presscon last December. There's no statue yet. They've just started actual work on it last month-ish.

Don't think so, the shoots are often really hectic and it's difficult to get all the signed actors on board for shooting at the same time in between their other project commitments so whether he does this movie or the show we won't see him until the end of the year at the very least. Unless he suddenly developes a new found love for variety, which with his social phobia I really doubt

I'm worried his agency might be trying to convince him to take a drama instead of a movie because he gets more attention from dramas (dramas is where his hallyu status comes from, he's still a nobody in film). In an article recently released about the company's declined revenue in the second quarter of this year, the agency blamed it on how Jongsuk hasn't picked his next project yet in so long and therefore they'll announce something in September. I'm kinda worried they'll force him for money's sake.

But then again, he has gone against his agency before. They didn't want him to take Hot Young Bloods but he took it anyway.

0

Required fields are marked *

Maybe he won't do the drama, I remember back when he dyed his hair that hideous blonde and wondering why seeing as how it wasn't for a role and it turns out he did it so his agency wouldn't put him up for any new roles cause he wanted a nice long break of months after IHYV and School and the slew of movies he did around then so turns out he hated the hair as much as we did but kept to shut his agency up about signing him up for projects lol

0

Required fields are marked *

That's true lol. He stands his ground against his agency when it comes to picking acting jobs, he says it's the only thing he won't compromise over, so I'm 90% sure he's not going to take Beautiful Mind if he doesn't like it even if his agency wants him to. In fact, his agency previously said that Jongsuk was going to appear in a project for autumn 2015 at latest, but it now looks like the earliest we'll see him is 2016 lol.

Well, his company didn't want him to take Hot Young Bloods because they already predicted it wouldn't be profitable. Which is true, it earned back its budget and made some money, but it wasn't a big hit or anything. But Jongsuk's really proud of that movie and he still stands by his decision.

I shudder at the thought of Jin Se Yeon and Go Sung-hee getting casting offers. They're both horrible at acting and such a killjoy whenever they come up onscreen. I can't think of anybody worse than JSY and GSH.

Actually he smokes, and never withholds this info from his fans, a lot of fan accounting writing about him smoking btween takes on sets. And smoking is even a recurring theme in his photoshoots.

Therefore, as a fan myself, I know he can surprise me so I would not worry about this particular 'wholesome look' issue.

I was just thinking about him the other day. He is definitely one to take on a variety of projects and not always the chaebol or genius role like so many do because they need to always project/protect a certain image. Remembering Padam Padam….

A Chaebol is actually one role I wouldn't mind him taking, he has his own take on each role he does so I wouldn't mind seeing what variation he brings to the table playing a chaebol with a Candy. his next project will probably be a movie now that he's done two shows in a row. I liked his previous movies and he stood his own in The Face Reader against older and veteran actors so I wouldn't mind seeing him do something serious this time

Tbh Seo In Guk and Lee Jong Suk are the only actors in their generation that I wouldn't mind seeing in any and every role, they have this IT factor that makes a role their own and not just a character written for a script. And I guess that list extends to Park Bo Gum now

I like LjS when he plays serious, less cute roles so I hope this one will be more of a noire crime thriller and won’t have that teenage get rich quick theme but the realistic part of the role of a illegal crime ring. I wanna see him play something other than a rom ok hero.

I agree i wanna see him in a serious role, and frankly with a face like that he's much too pretty to play any kind of criminal/scammer but I want him to outgrow his teenage looks, for some reason he still looks the part to play high school roles. Which is weird cause, Yoon Shi Yoon acts with the same bits but i can see him as an adult.

Lee Jong Seok the politician as the leader of a crime ring? Hmm... scandalous. As for Lee Jong Suk the actor, I trust his choices as long as he is not pressurized to play another rom-com. The guy wants serious roles but is well aware of his own limitations due to his youthful look. I would say abandon the rom-coms and go for what he wants. It's not the age of his roles, it's the type of project though admittedly those are not always available. I also think he should start paying attention to who will be starring as his co-star. The last two projects were not exactly good choices when it comes to who is acting with him.

As long as it's not a heist movie and it's not aimed at teens than I'm game for this role over him doing another drama. After doing 2 shows in a role he probably needs to back to doing movies or else he'll burn himself out at the success rate he's going at

Why do I get the feeling that he'll do the movie instead of Beautiful Mind, he always goes the unexpected route and the opposite of what his agency is trying to get him to do

LJS should do another movie, it's better for his career and health at this point the only reason I'd want him to do his third show in a row is if his leading lady was Kang Sora or Kim Ji Won, as stated by a previous comment. Jong Suk and Ji Won have been forever shippable together for me since I saw them in High Kick 3 and then at the SBS Awards ceremony together

Hoping he goes for the Beautiful Mind, the premise for the show seems repetitive given the slew of doctor and multiple personality roles but maybe Jong Suk will bring something new to the table

Here's to hoping his career veers more towards the direction of Yoo Ah In than say, Lee Min Ho. I love me some LMH but i don't want to see Jon Suk stuck doing roles aimed at hormonal teens

YESSSS x 100 if he does this movie then I hope the next drama he does is more along the lines of Secret Love Affair than say something more mainstream. I know he goes for challenging roles so there's a chance it might happen if he's offered a good script

LJS playing a gritty criminal insurance scammer? As long as they keep the tone serious and don't try to incorporate a love interest just for the heck of it I'm game for seeing him do something completely out of his zone

I'm happy as long as I don't have to see him in another lab coat for a while. There's just to many doctor shows, if he has to do another show I wish he'd do Saver

He's too... Flower boy for this role. He excels at doing romantic swooney leads, I don't know if I'm prepared to see him as a serious adult just yet

LJS would look really good playing a serial killer. Someone in the range of Gap Dong and Lee Joon Young from I Remember You

But how come there's certain "looks" for certain roles? People need to get rid of the assumption that bad people only look one certain way, anyone could do horrible things. Nice-looking people can be sinister.

If he's only allowed to take romcoms then how will he ever get anywhere? It'd be sad if he has to continuously put himself in a box just because people already have these preconceived notions.

I think what Tinsel is trying to say is that he's too pretty for a lot of the roles that are going to other actors. Yeah good looking people can do bad things but with Jong Suk in particular the problem seems to be that he looks too youthful for his age and that certainly works against him getting more mature roles when he can still pull off playing a teen perfectly fine.

You and I read the comment differently. I think Tinsel is saying he's too pretty for this role in a straightforward way. Nothing about his looks working against him for landing mature roles (which is true, I won't deny that)... because, I mean, he was offered this one and Tinsel is already saying he doesn't suit it.

@soapbox i understand that humans are both good and bad irregardless of their outward appearances but my issue with Jong Suk is that on top of being such a thorough flower boy he also looks years younger than he actually is and for a mature role being either one of the two wouldn't really matter as long as the actor was talented enough to work against it but being BOTH is just too much of a mountain to climb over.

0

@Tinsel

How do you know the role doesn't require someone young? We barely know anything about the role.

0

@soapbox that's true I guess. The fact that LJS is being courted is telling enough that the role might be young and fresh but the writers previous work made me assume it would be something aimed more at adults

0

@Tinsel

This is the director's first full length film (the news articles don't mention a writer so I'm going to assume he wrote the story too, this happens for films), he doesn't have any previous films except that short film mentioned above that he won an award for.

0

Gotta correct myself a bit: that short film mentioned about wasn't his only one, though I think his previous work have all been short films. Up until now he's been an independent director so it's hard to find things about his previous work.

0

Is this going to be an action thriller ? I read he does his own stunts, at least he'll get to do more physical acting and move away from the emotional stuff. His roles are always so emotionally draining

Isn't it possible for him to shoot this movie and do another show before the year end? I don't know anything about how shoots work but kdrama shoots in particular are always live shot don't know how much time it would take to shoot a movie though

This comes as a huge relief cause I was seriously worried there for a while that he would do the medical drama, that seems like a miss and go but here's to hoping this movie is like LJS previous big screen works

If Jong Suks playing the "ring leader" than does that mean this is going to be a con heist movie with an ensemble cast of young actors exclusively aimed at young teens ? As much as I adore his bromances on screen I don't want him to do something flashy and high budget but stick to his MO of going for different and out of the ordinary roles

Yeah but will the veteran actors play background adult roles while the actual movie is aimed at Jong Suk and his ring of scammers? I hope it's not another movie filled with 20 something actors and it really is just only veterans in the movie
