Yoochun reports for army duty
Is it already that time? But what if I’m not emotionally prepared? It’s always a sad day for dramaland when leading men head off to army, but duty calls. Park Yoochun reported for basic training at the Nonsan Army Training Center on August 27, after which he’ll be stationed as a public service worker for two years. He held a fan meeting on August 25, then chose to enlist quietly, five months after fellow JYJ member Kim Jaejoong reported for duty.
The 29-year-old idol-actor has had quite a run as a leading man on the small screen, from 2010’s Sungkyunkwan Scandal, to Miss Ripley, Rooftop Prince, I Miss You, Three Days, and most recently Girl Who Sees Smells. I’ve always appreciated Yoochun’s gift for comedy, and I think that his lack of vanity (let’s face it — his total willingness to look ridiculous onscreen) is what makes him a good actor.
His foray into films was a big success as well, in the critically-acclaimed adaptation of Sea Fog opposite Kim Yoon-seok. It earned him numerous rookie acting awards all season (Baeksang, Blue Dragon, Grand Bell), but more importantly recognition as a serious actor. It’s too bad that his film career is just getting started when he has to enlist, but hey, it’s not exactly a bad position to be in for a comeback.
Yoochun filmed a small part in the movie Lucid Dream starring Go Soo and Sol Kyung-gu, which will be released in his absence. Until then, Sungkyunkwan Scandal reruns! See you in 2017!
