Name That Drama: Currently airing daily and a killer fish

As always, feel free to email us your questions and requests for future Name That Drama installments.

  1. Stood up at the movies

Years ago I downloaded a K-drama cute scenes compilation video which recently I’ve watched again. There is this cute scene which makes me want to watch the whole episodes but there is no info what drama it was. A girl waited for a crush in front of the theater but he didn’t come. She ended up watching the movie alone while swallowing popcorn and crying hard. Later out of the blue a hot guy came sitting down beside her to accompany her and he had the cutest smirk ever! I know its pretty vague but the fashion, the setting were outdated so its probably a very very old drama or a flashback or drama focused on the past like the Reply series.

  2. Currently airing?

I am currently visiting Korea and have become addicted to a Korean daily drama on KBS drama station. I have watched at least 3 episodes in Korean and cannot understand a word of it. I believe it is about a girl who was switched at birth. The actors are at the child stage. Her father runs a business and her mother hates her. Looks like a well-to-do young boy who maybe likes art and likes her. Her mother/mean lady has a friend with a daughter about the same age who is very prissy and that woman’s husband works for the other. Of course the young girl is bright, sweet and brave. There is another poor boy who may grow to like her. I would love to know the name of the drama so I can watch it when I get home to the States.

  3. Addictive makjang (or is that an oxymoron)

There was this one drama that aired on a cable channel a couple of years ago, 2011 and onward. The main female lead was an art student who had a pervy professor who she tried to fight and somehow ends up being an escort? I think the story revolves around her becoming a madam or something, there was also this gangster who is in love with her and saves her from all sorts of dangerous shenanigans and they end up falling in love despite the fact that the main lead was told not to ever fall in love. Also there is a mystery about her dad and I think she finds out he’s a senator or something, her mom sings at a bar and that’s how they met. It’s a little makjang but somehow strangely addictive and I cant remember the title at all. Please help!

  4. Remarriage blues

I suddenly remembered a scene from a drama but I can only recall that one scene. I also can’t remember when I watched it. A daughter is crying to her mother complaining that she can’t remarry because she is in love with the son of that man. In the end the mother decides not the marry for her daughter’s sake. I hope you can help me. 🙂

  5. Ah, the ol’ egg maneuver

I don’t remember when I saw this drama. I remember this one scene where the girl runs away and we see her in the train with boiled eggs. Then, her dad wakes up and he tried to eat the eggs but cracks the raw eggs in his head instead. Sorry it’s kind of vague.

  6. Not deaf

It’s about a deaf girl. I don’t remember the exact story line but I recall a particular scene where the lead actress was afraid that her child would be deaf like her so she tried using a rattle to gain the baby’s attention in a dark room. When the baby responded she cried. Sorry I cannot provide more information.

  7. Dead fish

Hi, I hope you can help me out with something I watched years ago. The story goes something like this: There is an actress who won an award for something and when she goes back to her apartment with her manager, a guy (boyfriend?) comes to visit her and as they are having a chat, he proclaims how much he loves her and proposes with a ring. Before she replies, she (thanks her stars) and goes to see who it is and turns out its another guy who came to propose as well. And THEN, a third guest arrives (gangster?) who also came with the intention of proposing. Overwhelmed, she goes to the kitchen for a drink and takes out a frozen fish and the first guy comes over to talk. Hilarity ensues and he ends up slipping on the fish and dies. She panics and puts him in the freezer and long story short… as a tragic (?) comedy one by one these men die accidentally. I think the police also came by and in the end her sister brought her friend’s to party all the while this mess with men was going on. And I think the manager was the one who also proposed in the end.

    Thanks for helping me out.

Thanks for playing, everyone — till next time!

I don't think so....considering that Young Shin (the heroine) was not eating popcorn while crying her eyes out, and Jung Hoo (the hero) was sitting behind her, not next to her.

My first thought is Healer. But then the details are not similar with Healer and I knew right away it's not Healer.

Commenters below said it's 18 vs 29? Haven't watched that drama.

I believe that #3 is the Kdrama The Empress, starring Jang Shin Young and Kang Ji Sub. that aired back in 2011. It was the remake of the Jdrama Jotei.

Yup, that's what I think, too—hero and heroine are respectively the son and daughter of a guy and gal who'd fallen in love when they were students long ago. Years later, guy and gal find each other again. Without anyone knowing, each pair continually met up and grew closer. Until—AAAAWKWARD discovery.

Number 1 is definitely 18 vs 29. It was drama from 2005. The scene was played by younger counterparts. The scene was when heroine's crush threw a movie ticket given by her. But her (rude) friend took it from dustbin. In the evening the girl waited for the crush in front of theater but didn't appear. Then she decided to watch the movie by herself. But in the middle of movie (im not too sure) when she cried, her friend came instead. He handed a handkerchief for her and smile. Just from information, the hero (heroin's friend) is Super Junior Choi Siwon.

#6 sounds like the Japanese movie special, “Ai wa Mieru ~ Zenmou Fuufu no Takaramono" starring Ueto Aya. She's a blind pianist who falls in love with another blind man and gets pregnant to her parents' dismay.

#3 is definitely The Empress.

#6 sounds like Heaven's Coins 2 (Zoku Hoshi no Kinka) starring Sakai Noriko.

I remember the ending was that the deaf female lead gave birth to a baby who she was afraid would be deaf and couldn't speak like her and she cried when her baby did not cry out when it was born.

I think #2 is My Daughter, Geum Sa Wol.

#1 is definitely 18 vs 29 and the part you are describing is the childhood flashback part of it. Not the present day adult part.

#5 might have been the flashback childhood story in "Cinderella's Stepsister". The Moon Geun Young character ran away from her abusive stepfather.

I'm not sure, but #6 sounds like it could be from a Japanese Drama called Kimi No Te Ga Sasayaite Iru (Your Hands are Whispering). It's a very old drama starring Miho Kanno, about a deaf woman who meets someone, gets married, and raises a child.

#1 is 18 vs. 29

(One of the cutest EVER romcoms which was too underrated. Makes me mad all the time. It deserves more, tbh.)

Choi Siwon was young Ryu Soo-young there. (Awww, Ryu played a hot actor there. Must rewatch that. Haha!)

#1, the first drama I fell for Choi Si-won and that dimpled smile. Ryu Soo Young was pretty awesome in this and led me to Bad Couple, one of my all time favorites. I might have to watch 18.vs.29 again. That was a fun drama. Thanks for the reminder.

#4 could also be Iron Daughters-in-law. In the end the mom and the girl's boyfriend's father chose not to marry so that their children can be together.

Btw, the boyfriend is played by Lee Seung Hyo, aka Alcheon from Queen Seondeok ?

Regarding #2, I saw parts of a drama with no sound on a bus ride yesterday so I don't actually know the plot, but the parts seem to match. It's called My Daughter, Geum Sa-Wol. Young girl with a heart of gold, check. Prissy potentially psychotic jealous little girl, yep. Fancy rich boy, less rich boy, and a mother lurking in the shadows yearning hence a potential birth secret, ok. The very end of the episode jumped forward 17 years. Here's a link.

for #3 - I think the title was meant to be "Addictive Makjang or Redundant?) because an oxymoron is something that sounds 'impossible' with its contrasting descriptors - like jumbo shrimp or old news.

I don't think #6 is the Japanese Drama called Kimi No Te Ga Sasayaite Iru (Your Hands are Whispering). Brings nice memories. Love the show lots! Miho Kanno hit the baby bottom right after she gave birth in the delivery room till the baby cried. There was no rattle in the dark.
