Yoo Yeon-seok up for Joseon caper opposite Lee Seon-kyun

Wait, wait, I get to see Yoo Yeon-seok (Warm and Cozy) and Lee Seon-kyun (A Hard Day) on my screen at the same time? But where will I look? When Lee Seon-kyun was first announced for the manhwa adaptation King’s Case Files, about a king and his sidekick solving crimes together, I was picturing a comical buddy cop sidekick type, not someone so… pretty. Well, it’s not like there’s a rule that says sidekicks can’t be hot, right?

The new movie from director Moon Hyun-sung (Korea/As One) is an adaptation of a sleuthy crime caper manhwa by Heo Yoon-mi. It’s based on King Yejong of Joseon, an 18-year-old king who — in the comic — hops over the palace wall to solve mysteries, aided by his royal historian. It looks like a super cute bromancey teen detective series, and I wish it were being made into a drama.

They’re clearly aging the characters up for the movie, but since they match one another, I don’t mind at all. Lee Seon-kyun is confirmed to play the king, and Yoo Yeon-seok is considering an offer to play the scholar sidekick, who in the manhwa gets nicknamed “Carp Poop” because he goes everywhere the king goes like a carp trails its poop behind it. He sounds like the worrywart type who’s driven crazy by the king’s insistence on moonlighting as a detective, like a classic Holmes-Watson duo with a royal twist.

Some stories say that Joo Jin-mo is up to play the villain, but it’s only a brief mention and hasn’t been reported on extensively, so I’d take that with a grain of salt. I hope Yoo Yeon-seok signs on, because I really like the premise and the idea of him dogging Lee Seon-kyun’s footsteps as they get themselves into trouble (and also save the day, I’m sure).

King’s Case Files plans to shoot in April 2016, which means we have to wait forever to see this bromance in action. BAH.

Yes :P I discovered my love for seafood pasta after watching the drama! The misogyny in Pasta was off-putting ... but LSK (his characters!) more than made up for it in Coffee Prince and Miss Korea.

YAYYYYY Yoo Yeon-seok back onscreen again! (hope this one isn't a waste of good cast like @%@^&! Warm & Cozy)

Also I love Lee Seon-kyun but er, the days when he could pass for an 18 year old - even a Joseon-era one with no access to sunscreen or modern skincare - are LONG gone lol.

How about Kang Sora? She always wanted to act in a period project.

I have only seen him in Warm and Cozy - and he was so mediocre, I do not feel the need to watch him again. I do not understand the whole fuss about him. I will never watch anything because he is in it.

Lee Sun-Kyun on the other hand, is another story. Now here is a good actor!

Most of the failure for Warm and Cozy because of plot, the actors not to be blamed, even i do agree that YYS and his co-star Kang Sora are a bit overrated. (not that they cannot act).

He can act, and his skill can always be sharpen. emm try to watch Perfect Proposal. I changed my mind a bit after watching Perfect Proposal. He definitely has his own charm.

Well now, that seems like a hasty decision! As already replied to you, please check out Reply 1994 which shows how actors can shine if given a remarkable script and placed under steady directing.

Even if you don't like the acting, you will surely be won over by him in Youth over Flowers, particularly the episodes where he visited Laos with 2 other boys from Reply 1994.

I agree with people here, you have to watch all of his movies and reply 1994, you can find the reason why we adore him. Just like Kim Gura ever said, “his face is a blank canvas which would suit any type of character”. =)

Yes ♡ I fell for him hard after getting so shocked to know that the sweet Chilbongie was played by the same person who played horrible Ji Tae in Werewolf Boy and that despicable Gangnam Seonbae in Architecture 101. That's one of the many reasons why I adore him -

you know if you find the male lead as MEDIOCRE in WARM AND COZY then he is really really a VERY GOOD actor :P , because the drama can be a nightmare to any actor.

I know many are fond of Chil Bong but I became a fan of YYS after WAC.... Man you acted all the 16 episodes with absolutely noooooo script

A nightmare not to any actor only, but us the loyal viewers who swore to never watch it again lol. I dunno what made me stay with that drama until the end, maybe bcecause of the actors only.

helllooooooo!! mediocre it means if am I not wrong to read on your comment were attach at here, as you just don't get him on his roles aren't you..ok
first. you should have understood a whole of words both two on main leds at warm and cozy are Kang Sora and YYS each episode which meant are conversation, you could translate it into the country what languages were you living.
second. What standard for all dramas you are to wanted can be a favorable one, I knew are a modern, right in the end you just forget all about it after the dramas end. On the other hand YYS and KSR had outstanding on the roles they were to play I really enjoyed the chemistry of two. YYS' roles are bargaining from innocence being a mature in a person you were still not got it.
The last one to point you out the warm and cozy I believed it came from in a true story love into our life

When LSK casting news were covered last time, I was just having a wishful thinking that it'd be cute if YYS gets to play the Carp Poop role. But yay he's cast for it for real! Haha.

I'm happy for this movie casting news but at the same time sad as I can already see that YYS not gonna do a drama anytime soon with his schedule already filled til next year (if he signs up for this) ;___;

Wohoo YYS! I hope people don't judge him because of the crap-fest that was Warm and Cozy...what a waste of a couple with so much chemistry and YYS and KSR's talents ;-;

I've seen so many Korean men do that pose that I no longer find it weird. If a western actor did it, yes, I would be scratching my head, but not a Korean actor. Having aegyo is essential in the Korean entertainment business, regardless of the gender.
