Kim Tae-hee considers sageuk film The Throne

It hasn’t been long since she wrapped filming on her last drama series, but Kim Tae-hee is looking at a film project for her next role, with reports that she’s been offered the lead in a sageuk movie called The Throne: A Noble Man’s Path (a working title). According to a source with her management company, she found the script interesting and is positively considering the project.

Set in the Joseon era, the film centers around King Seongjong, his politician father-in-law, his son, and (naturally, for a sageuk) a conspiracy plot. Seongjong was Joseon’s ninth king, grandson to Sejo and father of Yeonsangun, and reigned in the 15th century until his death in 1494. The role out to Kim Tae-hee is of the woman he falls for at a glance, described merely as a beautiful and charismatic woman. Which, duh, I figured when you offered the role to Kim Tae-hee.

That’s all we’ve got to go on thus far, so any guessing about the movie will be purely that — guessing. Based on the period films that have been doing well in recent years, though, I’d expect something a little dark, a little suspenseful, and very stylish — something along the lines of Gwanghae, the Man Who Became King or King’s Wrath or Royal Tailor. Good thing for the film industry that Korea had so many kings, since we won’t be running out of assassination, backstabbing, and political coup storylines for a long while yet.

Overall, Kim Tae-hee has had better luck with dramas than with her film projects; the horse-racing movie Grand Prix back in 2010 was her last one, and she’s stuck to television since. Not a bad decision, especially with Yong-pal putting in an impressive ratings turn this year and earning her praise for improvements on the acting front. I didn’t love her last sageuk performance in 2013’s Jang Ok-jung, Live By Love, but I did like the harder edge and stronger backbone she found for Yong-pal, so maybe this movie will make good use of her recent progress.

Kim has yet to make a decision on The Throne: A Noble Man’s Path, which is still in early planning stages.

I almost thought it's the same movie with same title this year, The Throne or Sado. Hahaha..
At least it'll have different story, different king (and less-known one) and different era.

Romance sageuks don't do well on the big screen.

War of the arrows, King and the Clown, and Duelist (for style), Gwanghae are the few sageuk films that stood out.
The Admiral: Roaring Currents stood out for being based on a national hero.

Didn't expected this. I thought she will take some break before her next project. Ohh so the wedding plan might be not true at all ?? looking forward to her project. I always believed in her judgment in taking a project.

Anyway I love her performance in Jang OK Jung even my favourite Jang Hee Bin's character was in Dong Yi (portrayed by Lee So Yeon). But yes her performance is Yong Pal was the greatest so far.

After Yong Pal, maybe there will be less talk about her poor acting, right?

I think KNetizens pay lot of attention to looks then actual talent as she is a mediocre actress at best. I stopped watching Yong Pal after 5-6 ep as I like quality drama which YP was not even tho high ratings.

Heh! I dropped Yong Pal, too.
I liked it in the beginning when Joo Won was being Yong Pal -- a badass doctor who can perform surgery anywhere. Then they introduced her character and he gradually stopped being Yong Pal and the drama stopped being the medical/thriller drama they sold it as. And then she freakin' woke up and it became a romance drama. That's when I said sayonara...

"I'm sorry, Joo Won, you know I've liked you ever since Kim Tak Gu, but I just couldn't take her acting!" :(

I did everything you did to Yong Pal. Watched, dropped, and couldn't stand her acting though I don't know much about her.

yup, me too! I dropped it too and continued reading the recaps and the ending was the most absurd thing I have ever come across while watching this drama ..She woke up and said a line in which she addressed him a s yong pal!
How is that even possible? she didnot know anything about yong pal at all!!

Kim tae hee isn't mediocre to me. She upgrated from just being a pretty face with less acting talent to okay actress and to good actress. Since i've watched almost all her drama, i can tell with each drama that she's improved through out those years no doubt. Now she's just too good thanks to people who criticized her acting i.e they did bring out the best in her in the wrongest and meaner ways still some will continue to criticize her bcos it's their hobby, only God knows why. Anyway i didn't expect a segeuk but i'll be looking forward to it. Duh kim tae hee is really pretty.

She was so bad in Yongpal. Just wooden actress. She would be no where, if it were not for her connections with Rain. Let her do a film and show the world once again how bad she is. She is even not so pretty anymore, as she was when she was younger. I do not envy her leading man.

Ouchie! I can't comment on her acting in YP because I didn't watch it but I don't think Rain has anything to do with her getting roles in dramas. She is very popular in Korea and can make it on her own.

True, I can't say anything as I've never watch her in anything except an episode of Love Story in Harvard. But I doubt Rain has any effect on her getting acting offer.

If she's wooden in yong pal then all other deemed good actresses in other dramas must be walking sticks from the start. Or clay figurines?

I love her character in yong pal and she delivered it so well.

And she's gorgeous. This coming from a female. Period.

Wait.. I don't mind with your own personal opinion on her acting or hatred towards her, whatever it is, but she is even without connection with Rain already famous and popular in Korea. She is not even using her relationship with Rain to gain popularity.

Even u hate her to death, but get your facts right. I don't know if you are one of Rain hardcore fans, but there are few Rain fans who humiliated Kim Tae Hee on social media. I can never brain this. Both are already so popular on their own, and they do not have to use each other to gain more popularity, why can't some ppl leave their romance alone.

LOL!

KTH is still one of the most beautiful in Korea (much less the world) and Rain has had little to do w/ her career (from the very start, a much in demand actress and CF model).

And sure, she's getting older, but everyone does, but that doesn't take away from her beauty.

Yes, KTH's acting was pretty awful early on,, but she gave a pretty bang up performance in "My Princess."

And while I haven't watched YP, overall, the reviews were favorable - so basically, nothing but BS.

I'm sorry but everyone knows how big and popular kim tae hee is in Korea. Rain obviously has nothing to do with her popularity.

True, she's already famous before she started dating rain. Rain brought upon her and himself some hate when they were caught dating both nationally and internationally. Fans were enraged, some were happy though, and they were bad comments than good ones then, but now while they are people wishing for their marriage there're some few rain lunkheads fans who are still opposing and they're attacking kim tae hee in her IG and other social medias. They should continue showing their madness, it's fun.

Enough with rain, this has no business to do with him, we should give them some space.

Kim tae hee was awsome in yongpal, i can't seem to get over it just yet. Whether she acts a segeuk or not, i'm so in for it.

I did come across some comments from rain's fans. They were awful. I can't believe people can actually behave that way

So far, I have started 2 dramas where she was the female lead because of the male leads, Jang Ok-jung and Yong Pal, with Yoo Ah In and Joo Won. The brilliance of these 2 fine gentlemen notwithstanding, I still had to drop the shows. I couldn't take her "acting".

Continue with the bad acting stuff, keep commenting, change names too, but that won't change your stupidity. She's acted with other actors too, start watching them and add them to ur droplist too.

Aw, it really saddens me of how much hate KTH gets over and over again, even though she does a great job in Yong Pal IMO, everybody seems to see her as a "bad actress." *sigh*

Nah nah not everybody, but somebody who is among some people, who are among KTH hate group/antis/enemies of progress/jealous and nut cases people. Since they love criticism, they still can't get over the fact that she's a good actress. I won't be suprise if just one person is writing those rubbish with different names. Hypocrites are like that.

I find it so strange when people keep commenting about Kim Tae Hee being an awful actress and them not being able to finish her dramas/movies. Her acting improved a lot and she truly shined in Yong Pal. It was a questionable drama plot-wise but her character, her acting, even her body language and voice were on top. So I don't think there is a point in clinging to her old roles and calling her a bad actress when she clearly improved a lot and is more than just her face. I'm really excited to see her in sageuk and if her recent improvements will translate well in this kind of genre.

Old and late but KTH is my people. Loved Yong Pal and thought she could do even more. Liked Ok Jang thought she started well then writing went soft, I think some not all beautiful women run into "just be beautiful writing." Not Gianna Jun, Kim Hee Sun, Son Ye Jin but enough. I actually think KTH should lean toward comedy. Venus and Mars was really funny and she carried part well and also seemed to be athletic. All in all stanning all day every day. #BigHappiness.
