The Good Wife signs Yoon Kye-sang, moves to Friday-Saturday

The leading cast has been confirmed for tvN’s remake of The Good Wife, with Yoon Kye-sang signing on to play Jeon Do-yeon’s love interest who reenters her life when she goes back to work, following the public disgrace of her prosecutor husband Yoo Ji-tae. The series is also moving to the Friday-Saturday timeslot following Dear My Friends, which means that the premiere will be delayed a little. On the upside, the slot is tvN’s prime real estate, and I think it’ll do well there.

The programming change actually came about because of the upcoming tvN drama Woman With a Suitcase, which was originally being planned for the post-Dear My Friends slot. But the drama is having some trouble casting its leading lady, so The Good Wife has been scheduled in its place. That doesn’t really take care of the problem that now they don’t have a Monday-Tuesday drama ready to premiere in June, but I’m sure they’ll come up with something?

Jeon Do-yeon stars as a woman who returns to her law career after spending years as a mother and wife. Her prosecutor husband gets embroiled in a scandal, leading her to go back to work to support her family, and in the process she rediscovers herself. Yoon Kye-sang will play her friend, a fashionable, cosmopolitan bachelor who runs a law firm with co-CEO Kim Seo-hyung.

He’s someone who knows how to be warm and gentle with clients but doesn’t necessarily trust anyone at their word. He’ll help Jeon Do-yeon by giving her a job as an associate, where she’ll compete with fresh-out-of-law-school newbies like Lee Won-geun; After School’s Nana will play her assistant. Okay, the cast is set and my expectations are high… Now begins the wait till July.

The Good Wife now follows Dear My Friends (which follows Memory) and premieres Friday, July 8.

Nice. Very nice. I'm excited about the pontential this cast might bring to this drama.

Do you think Yoon Kye-sang will give us second-lead pains as he did in Best/Greatest Love?! I so wanted him to get the girl. ?

YKS must be the first lead because Will was the one Alicia loved until he died on Good Wife. She never gets back with her cheating husband in that show. She just acted as his legal wife after the scandal for his political career.

It would frankly be weird remake if the love interest she loves is her cheating husband. Alicia regretted Will character dying before she could love him openely.

Wait.. what... did you just... is that really the plot? Sounds like a lot of spoilery stuff. Unless that's part of the premise.

No i dont know anything about the plot for the remake but i was trying to explain that even in the remake the husband is more like the villain for the scandal, the second lead if there is a love story like in Good Wife.

Her love interest, first lead was YKS character that was Will Gardner. They cant change that part and call it a remake. They can change what happens in the drama since its not 7 seasons look like Good Wife.

Oh yay! I was just re-watching Best Love and wondering what he was up to lately. Is this the end of the casting news? Because then I guess Nana has really been cast as Kalinda...fingers crossed she is an acting prodigy! Positive thoughts everyone!

I wonder if Kalinda is too dark (complex) as a character for Korean standards. Anyway all the best show! We have high hopes for you

i was just thinking something similar to this. kalinda IS a complex character. being this is technically a cable show, i wonder if they will be able to go as deep with her character?

i'm not sure if nana necessarily plays kalinda. the article is not really clear about what the role of the assistant is. i never thought of kalinda as an assistant because she was more the badass in-house investigator. technically there was another assistant.

If you enjoy watching Yoon Kye-sang you should watch Last! It's a pretty compelling show and he's the lead there.

I am surprised it was not a Friday-Saturday timeslot the moment they had the lead actress signed up, since she was a big catch. Or even after Yoo Ji Tae got added. But I'm glad it's now on that new timeslot.

Expectations have now been raised up a level from yesterday. I need a good weekend-esque drama, especially during the summer months.

Sounds good. And I love Yoon Kye Sang too.
Omg, Yoo Ji Tae...why are you that guy??? Lol, well he does the villain very well and I'm glad to see him in another drama.
I don't think I am as familiar with Jeon Do Yeon, I've only seen her in one film, so I'm looking forward to spending some quality time with her.

Yoo Ji Tae can be the perfect villain. Remember "Oldboy"? lol

Jeon Do Yeon probably has the longest resume among Korean actresses of her age and beyond. She acted with almost every actor out there so you'll have endless choices once you decide to focus on her career. I think it's a must for younger people in order to comprehend certain actors' range of acting and incredible talent.

There haven't been any decent Friday/Saturday dramas all year really. This won't be a barn burner but casting makes it worth a try. It's also tVN and I usually like their dramas. They can be grittier and more adult.

Excited for this just to see all solid main casts. Is Nana good? Never watch her in anything.

But Woman With A Suitcase, when you gonna have a leading lady? I am rooting for Lee Bo Young or Kim Hyun Joo.

TvN really loves the veteran female actresses. Kim Hye-soo, Go Hyun-jung, Jun Do-yeon. I wonder who's next?

I can't wait to watch this drama. I followed the original version for quite a while all the way through season 3 which is when I gave up because I couldn't stand Peter (the husband), Eli the campaign manager and as time went by I didn't much like Alicia's children either . I always thought the writers based Alicia on women like Hillary ,the stand by your man types even through humiliation and scandal. How long will this drama be I wonder ? I hope its just long enough to delve into the lead character's complex loyalty and legal career and her attraction to the other guy .
