Ji Chang-wook offered lead role in tvN drama K2

Healer-ya, you’re coming back! It’s been too long.
Ji Chang-wook (Healer, Empress Ki) is eyeing his next drama project, and it’s a tvN series titled K2 that comes from the writer of SBS’s smash hit melo-thriller Yong-pal, Jang Hyuk-rin (also of OCN thriller Reset). Ji’s reps have confirmed that he’s received the offer for the lead role, and is currently positively considering.
It sounds like it’ll be another thriller, centering around a bodyguard who loves his country and his fellow countrymen but is thrown away by both, as well as the hidden daughter of a presidential candidate who uses love as a tool for revenge. I suddenly have visions of Healer meets City Hunter meets Yong-pal, which is fine by me since those are all very pretty images.
The Yong-pal connection can be either a good thing or a bad one, depending on how you look at it. I recall being swept up in the suspense and unpredictable plot in the early episodes, and felt an excitement in Yong-pal that I hadn’t felt in a drama in a long time… although then the series faded into banal romance melo and familiar chaebol politicking and lost a lot of its steam. I’m going to look at it optimistically for now, particularly with director Kwak Jung-hwan at the helm, who has a distinct directorial style and flair (Chuno, Neighborhood Hero). One thing’s for certain: The drama is sure to be visually stunning.
K2 is in talks for a September broadcast on tvN, to follow The Good Wife. There’s another show angling for that timeslot, Han Ji-min’s Tomorrow With You, so we’ll have to wait for confirmations before we start making our countdown calendars.

I'm gobsmacked that not that many of his fans actually know about his musical role as Muyeong in "The Days" ... where he plays a Blue House bodyguard. And has been doing so since April 2013. And will reprise the role for the third time in August 2016 -- so this is not much of a stretch to play a bodyguard for the small screen. If the writing goes sideways, Wook can always sign on as a script doctor since he's been there, done that. :D
But I digress. SUITS. Yes, suits. Yummy yummy well-tailored suits....... *squeeee*

Me too, I would prefer a different style; his acting skills are superb and I would love to see a new side of JCW :P ...This sounds too similar to Healer and, to say the truth, I liked him much more in Empress Ki when he was playing the innocent and tormented baby Emperor...but JCW in anything is always good news, so I will be waiting in excitement *-*

I also preferred his character in Empress Ki. Ta Hwan was was tormented and innocent, but also had a bright and loving personality and did some cruel and unjustifiable things. Such a beautifully complex character!!! But, I don't think this is too much like Healer, it has the potential to be incredibly different. As of now, his character doesn't seem to have a dorky or cute side. He seems like a deeply disillusioned man that just wants revenge regardless of the ethics and consequences. I want this character to be much darker than his character in Healer.

I do.miss JCW, but am so wary of the drama being written by Yong-pal writer. And description of female lead sounds so similar to Yong-pal's. Hope the writer learned from his mistake and make it good this time.

Same here! Can't trust the yong pal writer really. But I'm unsure if he even knows his mistake because the show got 20+ ratings and was a super hit plus he also got an award, so I don't think he even thinks he did something wrong in that script.

I think it's also worth remembering that Yong-pal was embroiled in a plagiarism controversy and that the initial episodes of the drama (the good ones) are exactly the ones alleged to have been copied from another writer's submission - after which things went down the tubes.
I hope tvN knows what they're doing here. Ji Chang-wook deserves better than to be reeled into a subpar drama.

Oh, crapola-- I had forgotten about that whole mess. And I was already feeling skeptical based on how bad the writing in Yong-pal got.
Of COURSE I want to see JCW in a drama again soon, but I want it to be a good one-- maybe the fact that tvN is doing it will make all the difference?

You're right. That unexpected issue of plagiarism in a live-shoot drama (on a major TV station) with very big names involved probably ruined the plot of Yong Pal after ep.8.
From what I've watched in Reset, the writer can do wonders with a good cast on a cable channel.
tvN is more OCN and less SBS (minus some specific cases)... Ihope!

ooooh I would love a Ji Chang-wook/Baek Jin-hee reunion though who knows if she'd agree to do cable.
He and Kang Sora would look absolutely amazing together, though - and based on their acting styles, I think they'd have great chemistry though maybe she shouldn't take the role if it reduces her to an accessory the way Neighbourhood lawyer Jo Seul-ho did (also, poor thing probably needs a nap, that drama just ended what, two weeks ago?!)

His and BJH's characters weren't on good terms in Empress Ki but man, I thought they looked so adorable and had great chemistry. I was actually half-shipping them despite the odds.

I only saw some clips but they did have great chemistry and they look amazing together - made me want to see what they'd be like in a pairing where their characters are mutually attracted to each other.
And the Hong sisters are still in my doghouse for wasting Kang Sora the way they did last year.

Baek Jin Hee really need a good role after being wasted in Geum Sa Wol ( I dislike myself because hated her character so much). And reunion with JCW will be good too!
I want to see some growing / underrated yet talented actress this time around. Yes I skipped Healer due my personal reason but JCW was flawless in Empress Ki. I want him to work with solid team and experienced actors like Empress Ki again.
This guy has everything handsome face, hot body and good actor too. Who can resist him? He just needs a good project before get enlisted.

Not true. Throughout her career, Baek Jin Hee has appeared in dramas on all the Big 3 terrestrial networks. It's just the odd luck of the Scheduling Gods that her last five dramas have all been broadcast on MBC. She is not beholden to the network at all.

I would love to see JCW in a good drama. The title "K2" seems strange ( Haha it reminds me of "King 2 Heart" ) . JCW will come back to "The Days" musical in a role of bodyguard and possibly as a bodyguard again in a drama. Yeah! Park Min Young will come to China for a project so I don't think she has time to do a Korean drama this year. I would love to see Kim Tae Hee or Song Hye Ko act with JCW but I doubt that it would happen. What do you think about Kim Ji Won ?

Oooh, from TvN... then there's a good chance a big chunk of it at least will be pre-filmed. And that means they'll have time to do stunts even after the first couple episodes and keep up the "action feel" of it.

Me too! Ji Chang-wook has one of the most beautiful speaking voices so I refuse to put up with it being dubbed over.
