OCN crime thriller The Voice courts Lee Shi-young to star

Hm, maybe the third time’s the charm? Cable network OCN’s new thriller drama The Voice is having some difficulty securing a lead actress, and is going through a number of casting rounds, beginning with Bae Doo-na, Chun Woo-hee, and now Lee Shi-young (My Beautiful Bride), who have all in turn been offered the starring role. Lee is currently considering the part opposite Jang Hyuk (Beautiful Mind), who’s up to play the male lead. If they sign on, it’ll technically be a reunion — both actors were in the movie Ogamdo (Five Senses of Eros), but they appeared in different segments.

The new OCN series is about police officers at the 112 emergency call center, whose family members become the targets of a serial killer. As they fight to catch a killer, they’ll discover the true importance of their jobs as first-responders. Lee Shi-young is up to play an ambitious police officer who dreams of becoming Korea’s first female police commissioner. She’s the daughter of a police sergeant who graduated the academy with top grades, and has first-rate martial arts skills that rival her male peers.

She’s also gifted with perfect psychoacoustics, and is traumatized on the job when she’s forced to listen on the phone as her father is brutally murdered. After returning from study abroad, she’ll pick up the threads of that case and work alongside Jang Hyuk’s character to catch the killer. Jang Hyuk has been offered the part of a former star detective who lost his family and suffers immense guilt from not being able to protect them. He’s assigned to the emergency call center, and the reappearance of the serial killer brings out his sharp detective instincts.

Lee Shi-young is a natural choice for the lead in an OCN thriller about cops, especially since she last played a detective in OCN’s My Beautiful Bride. She’s also well-known as a boxer in real life, which adds a lot of credibility to her action roles. It’s a bit of an obvious choice for her, but I always like her playing badass characters, and I doubt this will be an exception.

The Voice is aiming to air in early 2017.

Though I like Lee Shi-young...Kim So-Yeon was awesome in IRIS and Two Weeks as a woman who chose to be defined by her courage, bravery and decisions. So I'd love to see either of them playing the tough and bada$$ woman role opposite Jang Hyuk.

I want a plot twist where the killer is actually Kim So-yeon and she murdered everyone with a frying pan. ♥

Wonder why Bae Doo Na and Chun Woo Hee rejected it wow. Lee Shi Young is a sweetie but idk she always has this strong woman feeling, bodyguard, boxer. Bae Doo Na and Chun Woo Hee sound more fresh imo aside movie actress into small screen will get much hype like Park Boyoung in OMG, aside both of them are good act too

Well if the script is good maybe it will turn out good I guess

I forgot Chun Woo Hee was considering! too bad, I was really looking forward to seeing her in a series thriller. LSY is just as good, she's proved to be suitable for action and definitely has acting range.

Bae probably can't commit to a drama right now (and maybe does not want to) but I'm not sure about Chun Woo Hee.

I guess neither Bae Doo Na or Chun Woo Hee found something special about this drama or maybe they have other projects in mind. I would have liked to see them on small screen.
Lee Shi Young is a good choice but I wonder if she will accept another similar genre. Hope this time both leads will share the spotlight in the drama.

I dont mind if LSY accept this, but God, she is more than capable to have leading role. I'm afraid she will be typecasted into the same role. Although it will be interesting to see her pairing with Jang Hyuk. Honestly it is a little difficult to match up with Jang Hyuk's level, and I believe most established actresses probably don't want to be overshadowed by him. Maybe.

How about give this role to underrated actress who is good in action role? You know maybe someone like Lee Mi Do ( teacher is Sassy Go Go). Anyone watched Lady Action must know that she is good in doing action scene. C'mon OCN give chance to underrated actress as well. ;)

I love Lee Si Young and wouldn't mind her in the role at all.
Even though they mention her character having superior martial arts skills, I feel like Jang Hyuk being the detective, he'll probably carry the action side of the show where Lee Si Young's character might be the heart of the plot. It might be something a little different for her. But who knows?

I think she just finished shooting her action movie, though, so I dunno if she'll want to do this or if she'll want to rest more.

Never mind! I just looked it up and it's Oh Yeon Seo in Shine or Go Crazy with him. I'm usually good about recognizing each actor/actress. They do look alike, right? I'm not crazy?

I guess you didn't Shine? :D

I never confused them because LSY is so smol and cute to me while OYS seems model-esque in the projects I've seen her in. But I guess they have that same cat-like aura.

I hope she turns this down. Girl is type cast as heck. Other than Playful Kiss and that one affair none affair drama which I can't remember the name right now she's played the same strong cop/bidet guard in almost all her leading roles. Branch out and show what else you got offer girl.

I welcome Lee Shi Young as long as it stays an equal lead drama. And are we going a slightly jdorama route and not pairing them? Cause that would be awesome.

She's not typecast for me yet as I've only seen her in two dramas, Playful Kiss and Wild Romance. I think this role could still be somewhat glamorous, like Jang Nara in IRY.

I still don't understand studying abroad.
But listening to your dad get murdered with high pyschoacoustics abilities sounds horrible so maybe I'll excuse going abroad.

And yes! Girl genius for the win!
