This is my first year voting because I live-watched a bunch of shows for a change, and am currently juggling 4, which is seriously bogging down my RAM -- and annihilating my sleep. ;-)

After careful consideration, I've decided to bestow my own awards, based solely upon the completed and still-running dramas I've watched in 2016:

"I will never die" Injwa. OMG I lost it at that.

I didn't vote for a lot of them. I realized that I haven't watched a lot of dramas this year. I'm quite sad that Dragons wasn't included for this year so I couldn't vote for best sageuk. It only half aired last year.

It felt like my whole year was about Dragons, Signal, and about four dramas. lol

People are sleeping on Oh My Geumbi though. Baby is awesome.

At first, I thought that Su and Wook got more votes than Su and So on the pairings list and I was super surprised. But then I looked at the number of votes each of them got and realized why - vote tallies can be misleading when they're in different polls!

And ugh, I wish I could vote for everything in the girlfriends category! And throw in an extra Eul and Na Ri (though then again, Na Ri's just super awesome). They are literally squad goals.

This is such a great year for kdramas, I actually finished watching 17 and dropped 14. IMO Signal is the best drama this year overall (obviously), Oh Hae Young Again best romcom, Dear My Friends best slice of life, Good Wife best adaptation, Jealousy Incarnate funniest, This Week My Wife is Having an Affair best secondary couple, Police Unit 38 most badass and Park Haejin most waste of talent. First 4 + W are my top 5 kdramas this year.

Top 3 Kisses because my mind is always in the gutter:

1. Moonlight Drawn By Clouds bad love kiss (I screamed. I couldn't just calm down. It was the surprise kiss I was most invested in, I felt like I had crossed an ocean, moved a mountain & caught a grenade for that close mouthed semi-fish Kiss! And it was only yet episode 7. Lawd, good times.)
2. W handcuffs (Hotnessss. Handcuffs were never so useful, my mind melted a bit when they got on the table.)
3. Romantic Doctoer Teacher Kim's frisky hoebaes (I rewatched this so many times just to look at hands. Now my cheeks are on fire.)

Other's I can remember at the moment:
- I really liked the tipsy kiss on the Cheese park bench too, but sadly yet joyfully other drama's happened and its not top 3 for me anymore.
- OHYA. I liked the wall kiss with busted lips thing but not the characters. Very strange position to be in. Still crawling through this drama
- W's freeze-while-I kiss-you-so-I-can-get-out-of-this manhwa-kiss
- W's lets-kiss-before-I shoot-you-to-see-if-you're-really invincible kiss
- CITT again. The most awkward scrunchy kissy face kiss under the eye EVER. Props to Seol for trying to plant one on Jung though.
- SFD's emotional call my name one last time kiss. YAI Intensity™
- Descendants: "Men(+woman) in uniform" enough said. I think I had a bit of a crush
- LOBSTER underwater liplock was really pretty
- OTWTTA!! OMG!! With sounds and everything!!
- Reply88. I remember very well because I watched it few months ago. It had Taeki the kissing bandit! And Sunwoo & Bora! And the Secret Garden cosplayers. But my god Choi Taek 6 dan!! That was a very nice kiss... plus I think he had become 9 dan or something at the time. What am I saying, I dont know

I am also re-watching MDBC hehe for our YeongOn puppies. They've been everywhere after the drama with events and CFs, so I cannot let them go just yet. Did you hear the news about the Director's Cut DVD? It should be filled with Moonlight goodies. :) Hope to see you in another good drama recap.

And hey I've been following YeongOn events too!

I honestly don't think any of those nominees had a breakout performance this year. While all of them were good, none of those were signature roles which people would forever associate them with, like Park Bo Gum in I Remember You or Ji Soo in Angry Mom or Lee Jong Suk in I Hear Your Voice. Kim Go Eun in Cheese in the Trap was the closest, but because everyone was so bitter at how that drama imploded, people are reluctant at giving her credit.

Besides Lee Soo Hyuk, everyone on that poll deserved biggest waste of talent, but besides Park Hae Jin, I can't sympathize with them when they were the ones who chose those projects. I have given up on KeyEast for doing right by Lee Hyun Woo, and Lee Jun Ki's leading ladies will be his demise. Hwang Jung Eum in Lucky Romance takes the cake for being the most idiotic idiot of ever.

Based on your definition of Breakout Performance of the Year, I think that Jinyoung fits the bill.

Maybe he'll find greater success in acting in the future, but I definitely think that people will always remember his performance as Yoonsung in Love in the Moonlight just like how people remember the earlier of days of Ji Soo in Angry Mom, and Jong Suk and Woo Bin in School 2013.

Jinyoung's performance and character was definitely very memorable and his performance stood even more so because his background as an idol was unexpected for a lot of people who were unfamiliar with B1A4.

Loled so hard at the Drinking Solo bits. Gong Myung would've hated his hyung's guts with or without the relationship.

This year has been great! So many lovely dramas with wonderful portrayal of friendships. Seems that almost all good things comes in 3s : Noryanjin trio, weightlifting trio, Fantastic trio, Loser Married men trio. It was so heartwarming to see the characters of the drama go through the ups and downs of life alongside their friends. As much as romantic partners and family can render the same support, in some instances the support is because of obligation or filial piety. With friends, they're the ones who choose to stand by you, with no romantic, sexual or familial ties.

Going into the Christmas month with warm and happy feelings from all these <3

I guess when you think of it that way, then yes, it shouldn't be included, but I think for most if not all of the nominees, they were either underrated in South Korea (poor popularity, did not do well ratings wise, etc.) or internationally.

In comparison to other dramas like Goblin, Legend of the Blue Sea, Weightlifting Fariy Kim Bok Joo, etc. RDTK isn't that popular.

I just wanted to clarify, when I said that RDTK isn't that popular in comparison to xx dramas, I meant in comparison internationally, not in South Korea. :)

In South Korea, RDTK also not that popular even though they have high ratings. The viewers number in Naver for the short clips or position of this drama still lower compare to others. Perhaps this drama is popular for older people that's why less talk about it.

Have watched most of the dramas this year, so it was pretty difficult to pick from this list. Am glad sleeper hits such as Dear My Friends, Age of Youth and 1% of Anything are getting some Beanie love. No mane of glory honors this year though? Which should really go to the cast of MLSHR, along with best eyeliner and BB cream innovator award.

Sucks for the in-between year dramas such as SFD and Reply 1988 since I think these were not included on most categories last year. Hoping Beanies remember Goblin for next year's Beanie awards!

Best drama of the year goes to Another Oh Hae Young. Reasons:
1. Hero and heroine are totally not having 'good personalities' but they can make me rooting for them. If I have to choose a friend, I'll definitely go to pretty OHYA, but in here, just OHY can make me root for her though I know her personalities just a meh.
2. The story line is fresh but very common happen in real life. We find it's common for having the same name and being compared to one another but until now, only OHYA bring it to the drama.
3. The dysfunctional relationship. Just OHY and Park Do Kyung relationship are so wrong from the first place. He fell for someone that he needs to get away while OHY fell for someone even more deeply after she knew the person ruined her marriage. Both are suffering and it's beautiful to see the progress of how this two stay together. Usually, when lead female knows male lead is jerk, she will stay away from him. But in here. Nope. just OHY didn't care about Do kyung ruined her marriage. She just wanted to hear he loved her. And none of them have thought to get back to their previous relationship also a big plus.
4. Chemistry. This is the first korean drama that makes me feel like watching private moments all the time whenever the leads together on screen. The kisses were awesome but they touch, hug and simple smiling to each other also very intimate. I would be happy if it was just an acting from Eric and Seo Hyun Jin to prove this two are so professional. But I could understand also if they're developing feelings after those passionate scenes.
5. The supporting characters. I don't find any single characters are not entertaining. Even Do Kyung's mom is fun to watch. But my favorite will be Do Kyung's noona and her pathetic lawyer. They both crazy but fun person and deserve each other lol.
6. OSTs. I love all of the OSTs from this drama. Even the 'HEOLLL' sounds also very fun to hear XD.
7. Cinematography. Love the scenery, the petal fallen, the direction from Do Kyung and OHY's room, etc.

Other than OHYA, I like some such as DotS, Jackpot, Doctors, My Wife Has An Affair, the K2, Moonlight. But OHYA won my heart the most.

It's strange (okay maybe not so strange) how I hardly finished/watched many dramas this year. The few I did complete, are definitely not the 'popular' or 'cool' ones that were a general hit.

Dramas like Signal looked okay and I got a few episodes in until I realized, I just didn't get the hype. Maybe one day though.

Didn't like/finish Descendants, Doctors, W, Moonlight by the Clouds and many other fan faves.

Instead, I liked the really off-key kinds of dramas like Moorim School, Goodbye Mr. Black, Master: God of Noodle....Because, just because.

2017 dramas are definitely looking much better. Can't wait.

So sad that we aren't getting those 'classics' coming up any more. You know, dramas that can be the next Secret Garden, It's OK That's Love, Master's Sun and even a really sumptuous sageuk mainstay like Empress Ki. Again, so sad.

2016 which I saw:

Descendants of the sun: The start I felt it bit boring aftr episode 5 it took a turn nd was gud. Not a great drama bt still was fun to watch.

Signal: The most interesting drama I felt. Felt Thrilling till the end.

Please come back mister: very funny nd emotional drama. Bt at some point I felt it a bit boring. Bt it's a gud drama to kill time.

Moonlight scarlet heart ryeo: I felt this drama is great. All the cast did a brilliant job. Many felt the drama ended hanging bt I felt it ok. The OST nd DRESSING is to be mentioned it was perfect.

Every drama had its positives nd negatives bt the best drama of 2016 I felt is SIGNAL.

Did not watch many Kdramas this year, but of the ones I tried:

W Two Worlds was surprisingly engaging. Did not think I would like the drama because admittedly I'm not a big fan of the leading actress. Turns out I was wrong - the plot is good.

DoTS: Was pretty, but I didn't feel emotionally connected.

Age of Youth: Love.

Cheese in the Trap: The male lead's character irked me.

Goblin (so far): Really good.

Any standout dramas in 2016 people recommend? I think I might try Signal.

Shopaholic Louis? I recommend because it is not the usual romcoms. There is like cinderella like story but it will defy all the things you might think happen. The casts, osts and storyline Is amazing.. Mostly louis ♡♡Also Moon lovers. Love that a lot even I was expecting more.

Memorable dramas of 2016: (it's "memorable" instead of Best, as I skipped many dramas this year esp. Signal).

- OTTWTTA - no words can sum up this drama and the experiences as a viewer, and lessons about marriage that this drama provides. Plots does not need to be complicated, no revenge, no spoken confrontations, just unspoken gestures, emotions display all over the screen that are well received, well respected by the leads... I love it most for 2016.

- Police 38 - an underdog team winning a twisted win with an unexpected sacrifice. Nice surprice, nice humor, great teamwork, great betrayals. Mijoo has the best crush (or one-sided love) of 2016, unfortunately Jungdo and Papa Bear have one of a kind bromance that surpasses everything. =)))

- Descendant of the Sun - the hype, glad a drama can draw that much attention. Big Boss and Beauty is love.

- Marriage contract - such a melodrama with cancer and single-parenting, nice ending with hope of the family that fight to stay together.

This year 2016 was the best for my KDrama experience because;
1. Ultimately, I have found a truly gem that is Seo Inguk; started with HSKOS as his first drama that I watch, instantly Infatuated and have since clouded my judgement in viewing KDramas especially the male lead. I have finished watching most of SIG dramas; except Rascal Sons and Another Parting and this is where I have found the foundation for my fandom; SIG really can act, he makes memorable characters throughout his acting careers, he can sings very well and I am liking his personalities in real life too.
2. So I am going to hands down his dramas this year as the best dramas for me; 38 Task Force and Shopping King Louie has proved to show how versatile Seo Inguk can be, and yes indeed, this is the best year for me because next year, I am going to part with my biggest Korean male actor crush ever; that is Seo Inguk. Sigh.

Why are reading ur comment making me cry dear? I am very sad for SIG. he is so underrated. He is supposed to be this years gem I mean for 5 years he being actor, he is a gem. I was scrolling down to see is there anyone commenting about inguk.. His acting at squad 38 is so amazing. His dialogue and body languange. God knows how ambI attracted to this amazing actor. And his acting at shopaholic louis? it is beyong perfect. He can be angry, cute, dashing and annoying at same time. I cant think of another actor playing as louis. He made the character lovable and people cant get annoyed. He is freaking good. How different both characters 38 squad and skl but he did it perfectly ♡

@sara me the same too! I believe 2 years without him, the KDramaland would be bland and boring without him. But trust me, even though he seemed underrated unlike some other actors who also at the same age as him, during his 4 years of acting careers, he was able to make a pretty solid and memorable careers, well at least to me. He will be even more better after his MS, I cannot wait for that so have a little faith on our Louie chingu-ya! Hwaiting!

Again Using vote. I thought this time seo in guk will get recognized foe his Shopping king louiw and police unit 38. I am just dissapointed hmmm. He became my fav after I watched his phenomenal acting and great kisses. The way he conned in 38 squad was amazing.. And his acting as louie amazing. If werent him in the role of louis maybe we will get annoyed. Also not to mention both of his dramas was great though this year. Best romcom should go to shopaholic....

For me the one who should win best role is in signal and shopping king louis. Signal is phenomenal. And louie is the best guy that I am not annoyed when comes to romcom. Seo In Guk made the character lovable and adorable. Not to mention his role in 38 pu is amazing also. But still he is underrated .. I cant just understand

SPOILER ALERT!

I was introduced to the land of South Korea by W-Two Worlds, so that wins for me, but seriously W was the best. The characters were believable (and made me cry) (a lot), the romance was believable (and made me cry) (a lot), and to be honest I just really loved it. Other ones I watched were:
Shopping King Louis - I loved Oska--er, Mr. Cha. Louis was really nice at the end.

Legend of the Blue Sea (on-going) - This one is nice and funny. More light-hearted than I would think, but I like it.

Goblin (on-going) - This is REALLY good! I love Goblin and the Grim Reaper's chemistry, or lack of it, and CANADA! I didn't realize Quebec was so gorgeous.

Moorim School - I actually don't think it was that bad. It would've been better if it wasn't cut from 20 episodes to 16, but I liked it.

And some others, but here are non-current ones:

You're Beautiful - I'm only on episode 4, but it's funny--except for the emos. I'm watching it with my mom, and I told her she was watching it because she was an "이모", an aunt on the mother's side in Korean, pronounced 'emo'.

Doctor Stranger - It looked so good. The acting IS so good, but the plotting is just. so. bad! I don't know if I'll continue this (I'm not done).

Pinocchio - This was, I think, written better than W, and it's really, really good! (But I like W better.)

Faith - Again, still watching this, and the doctor lady is really annoying but I like the rest of it!

And more, but I can't remember them all. Any suggestions?

Hi MyPrecioussss! I'm excited to send you recs cos we seem similar in taste in some shows! :)

If you loved Pinocchio and LJS, you should try writer Park Hye-ryun's other collab with him, I Hear Your Voice. Oska was so adorable here too and the leading lady played by Lee Boyoung was great. But you can always expect that from PHR's writing.

Speaking of LJS, School2013 was great too! Don't be turned off by the school title. It was heart wrenching.

If you're liking You're Beautiful, try Dream High (also about idol/kpop world but with less slapstick and more heart, also by the Pinocchio/IHYV writer).

For a short but great show, try Splish Splash Love (2 eps) and Page Turner (3 eps). The latter is also written by Park Hye-ryun hehe

If you enjoyed W because of the mixed fantasy and romance aspect, try Song Jae-jung's better (more consistent quality-wise) work, Queen In-hyun's man. It stars Yoo In-na aka Sunny from Goblin.

But if you just enjoyed W for the thriller and mind-twisty fantasy parts, try Signal (you can see from most of voting results so far that majority of us loved this show from 2016).

I won't drown you in more recs. Hope you find one among these that you will love. :)
