Meet the plane crash survivors of MBC’s Missing 9

Remember the castaway drama Gaia, which turned into the idol-filled Picnic, and then into mid-life crisis story Missing 9? Well after multiple cast overhauls, two name changes, and one writer switch, it looks like things are moving forward for the upcoming MBC drama. Finalized background descriptions for the main nine characters have been released, along with the first stills of our castaways in character.

The plot of Missing 9 starts with an unexpected plane crash that causes a widespread panic in Korea due to the disappearance of nine people, including some influential figures in the entertainment industry. The following are the characters who make up the Missing 9:

Jung Kyung-ho (One More Happy Ending) is set to play a washed-up top star who has landed on hard times. Once the leader of a popular idol band, his public image was ruined, and he is now reduced to being a D-list fringe celeb. Playing Jung Kyung-ho’s kind manager who has been loyal to him throughout the years is actor Oh Jung-se (Beautiful Mind).

Jung Kyung-ho’s love interest will be played by Baek Jin-hee (My Daughter Geum Sa-wol), whose character is his newbie stylist. She experiences the historically worst first day of work ever (incidentally her first time going abroad) when they crash-land on an uninhabited island. Four months later, she ends up becoming known as the only survivor and sole witness to the events surrounding the accident.

Jung Kyung-ho’s former bandmates will be played by Choi Tae-joon (Flower in Prison) and Chanyeol (To the Beautiful You). After the breakup, Choi Tae-joon’s character became an actor who was enjoying a second heyday of fame when the plane crashed. His frustration plants seeds of discord amongst the others. Chanyeol’s character is the complete opposite. He was the mood-maker as well as the pretty one in the group, and becomes a ray of optimism on the island as well. Right before the accident, he had been the only one who made it big as a solo artist/composer in the music industry after leaving the band.

Lee Sun-bin (Police Unit 38) plays the most successful celebrity in Jung Kyung-ho and Choi Tae-joon’s talent management agency, Legend Entertainment. She’s refreshingly honest, but underneath the charismatic personality, she’s hiding a distressing secret that no one else knows. The other famous female aboard the plane is a billboard model, Ryu Won (Uncontrollably Fond), who is nicknamed the Hallyu goddess. Her character has a strong sense of responsibility, and this will eventually tie into a subplot where she helps another character whose future is looking dim.

To be honest, I’m most looking forward to comedic duo Kim Sang-ho (Bring It On, Ghost) and Tae Hang-ho (Moonlight Drawn By Clouds) who will respectively play Legend Entertainment’s CEO and head secretary. The revamped synopsis and new character descriptions have me wondering if Missing 9 will be a mystery-thriller-survival drama in the same vein as Lost, but I’m hopeful that with these two, laughs will never be too far.

MBC’s Wednesday-Thursday drama Missing 9 will begin broadcasting in January of next year after Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok-ju finishes its run.

If beak Jin hee is the only known survivor does that mean everyone on the island dies? What kind of show is this haha

That's what I thought too. Surely, it wouldn't be a drama told in full-flashback sequences per Baek Jin-hee's recounting, right???

Well the one behind the story is Han Jung-Hoon who wrote Vampire Prosecutor series,Bad Guys and 38 Task Force so i remember when they mentioned the change in writer and story that it was gonna be along the lines of his other shows as genre

I know that show has undergone a lot of changes, but I was still expecting it to be a campy idol drama somehow...

That sounds way darker than I was anticipating though.

The shows instantly sounds much better with a plot like this. Possibly something similar to "And Then There Were None"?

Later more survivors were found. So far 3 more survivors came out on the show. There were comedic scenes in it which made it entertaining also. I personally love the show!

So all the others die by the end of the show or what,if Baek Jin hee is the sole survival. At least we know there won't be any truck of doom there, will they kill each other off for a Subway sandwich or what..Jung Kyung-ho looks great in that pic

"Four months later, she ends up becoming known as the only survivor and sole witness to the events surrounding the accident."

Uhhhh, that doesn't bode well for the other characters. Not to mention it sounds like a potential spoiler. There must be a twist coming or something. But I'm looking forward to this show. I like both Jung Kyung-ho and Baek Jin-hee.

I was thinking more like "only KNOWN survivor" which leaves it open for all kinds of crazy, no?

Same, that "known" means a whole lot.

It made me think that maybe they just choose to stay there and not be famous anymore, or maybe there's a door to Narnia on the island, or it's actually Atlantis and only appears once in a blue moon, or aliens came by and kidnapped them (/they went voluntarily because they were told Earth was about to be demolished 'cause of a new highway in space), or maybe there's an indigenous people that they marry into, or maybe it's someone's own little secret Jurassic Park and they're kept from leaving 'cause someone might find out, or maybe it's Dr. Moreau's island or the Mysterious island, or they find the entrance to the center of the earth and journey there, or maybe it's Lilliput and they find it amusing to live amongst tiny people the size of your thumb, or it's the country of the Houyhnhnms and they can't escape their talking horse-slave masters, or maybe it's Utopia and they like living in a weird restricted society, or Ecotopia and they like riding trains with plants in them and no real seats, or maybe they just simply befriended a native named Friday or a volleyball named Wilson and it'd break their heart to leave them behind.

I have clearly read too many sci fi and fantasy novels.
Prize for whoever gets all the references!

I am officially no longer interested. The drama behind the drama was fun, but Chanyeol as an actor is a big no for me and the plot isn't up my alley from what we know so far. Especially with that spoiler-obviously-not-a-spoiler-bc-why-would-anyone-spoil-their-own-show-like-that-so-there-must-be-a-twist-coming-and-they-all-choose-to-stay-on-the-island-bc-they're-tired-of-celeb-life-or-else-they-all-die-and-the-whole-drama-will-be-a-flashback and I just can't handle that kind of drama pain...

My first thought when I saw the photos of this cast is why are their clothes in a matching color scheme?! ....... xD

Anyway, I'm excited to watch this drama because of Jung Kyung-ho and because the plot is uncommon. I really hope they can maintain the mystery and give us a satisfying story.

I'm also a big Jung Kyung Ho fan so I won't miss watching this drama. And this comes from the writer of Bad Guys and Police Force 38 so I'm pretty sure that there will be twists and turns along the way.

It's wonderful how this drama went from a premise that initially seemed nearly unwatchable to something that might actually end up pretty cool. I'm curious in checking this out if they go dark. Or at least grey. It definitely doesn't sound so cookie-cutter anymore what with the bleak projected ending (unless cop-out and sudden happy ending for everyone in true K-drama fashion).

Also I thought guy in 3rd photo (Choi Tae Joon, is it?) was Kang Dong Won for a brief moment.

(As opposed to grey, or dark.)

"Four months later, she ends up becoming known as the only survivor and sole witness to the events surrounding the accident".

Hope nobody that i like will die on this. Maybe she's the only one who escapes from this island and back to the known world, the South Korea. So, i am expecting a 'real life' drama, filming in unhabited island where they will be seen making fire, searching for food, etc etc and of course the scene of the crash will be included - i've watched LOST only for one season before i'm lost to the story.

I also a fan of Scifi, so the reference of commented earlier is undeniable but I dont think this drama go to this idea. Yup, I agree when earlier post noticed the same tone of wardrobe. Seeing their background, maybe there's a set up why they board the same plane and crashed. I love mystery! So, I'm not into rom com or idol drama or something. I'll wait for the trailer to decide. As for now, i'm keeping it as must watch bcoz of Kang Min Ho slash Paksa Aedel (Jung Kyung Ho)

Does that mean they will narrate the story through the only survivor? or she will have an amnesia and starting collecting the pieces through some kind of unfortunate events behind the people who caused the crash purposely because they're after her, after dhe survived, this sounds more interesting i hope it will not end up like W.

After reading this post all I can think is american tv show Lost, which i watched all season, will Missing9 will end like Lost? Leave it to vierwer interpretation. Or we will get the story they all died except for female lead character as the summary says she is the only survivor of the crash

Maybe instead of LOST, it'll turn out like Identity (John Cusack and Amanda Peet).

Forget the idols. I'll watch for Kim Sang-ho and Tae Hang-ho.

I'm wondering how the writing and direction are going to mesh though. Because from what I've read, Angry Mom's PD is still on board.

Bad Guys and Police Unit 38 both had the same writer/PD duo. I don't think the Angry Mom PD is bad by any means but I wonder how they'll match stylistically.

Jung Kyung-ho seriously is in the same bad as Chanyeol? Tae Joon? He is a great actor. But the age difference is so apparent. It feels unreal.
