Name That Drama: Fake pregnancies and fake princesses

As always, feel free to email us your questions and requests for future Name That Drama installments.

  1. We all know that cancer’s only the beginning in dramaland

I was wondering if anyone knows about this story. I read it somewhere on AsianWiki, but I can’t find the source. The drama’s male lead(?) was worried about his father, who was diagnosed with cancer/a tumor. He walked along a beach, fell, and was trapped under a rock.

The tide was rising and he couldn’t get out. A woman heard him and tried to help. That’s all I know. The facts are quite vague and confusing, but I would really like to watch it. Thanks!

  2. It’s not the size of the request, but the mental strength of the Beanies

It might have been a movie, but a hopeless woman tries to drown herself by walking into the sea, and is saved by a stranger.

  3. I’m no help here, ’90s sageuks all blend together for me

    Hey Beanies,

I was just wondering if anyone knew this sageuk by chance. It’s a pretty old one, maybe a drama from the late ’90s, I’m not sure.

The scene I remember is a scene where a woman was fighting with a guy in an open field. Somehow she ends up stabbing him in the gut, and then becomes really depressed about it. If I remember correctly, he is her brother (I’m not too sure about this), and she doesn’t seem to know about it.

There are also a bunch of people surrounding them, and then they start firing at the guy. But then the girl comes and embraces him, getting shot at as well. They end up dying, and then the scene cuts.

The info I’ve given is really vague, and I don’t really think many people have seen this show before, but hopefully someone knows the title of the show. I’ve been really trying to search for this show, and it’s quite sad because I know none of the actors in it. Thanks so much, Beanies!

  4. This one does sound quite familiar…

GUYS! I need help! I remember that it was definitely a sageuk. The only two scenes I remember are one where the girl is pretending to be the princess, and the other is the girl jumping in front of the guy and an arrow hitting her back.

That’s all I can remember. Please help!

  5. But why not keep the daughter, if she already had a son? Oh right. Dramas.

Hi! There’s this drama I really want to know the name of, but I can’t figure it out. I remember that it’s super old and about a pair of twins (a boy and a girl). I believe a mother in that drama was pretending to be pregnant by wearing a fake bump, and somehow I think the boy got adopted. Or was it the girl that got thrown away?

I think it had something to do with the mom (wearing the fake bump) really wanting a son or something. Anyway, I remember a scene where she walks into the house of her twin brother, looks at the picture, and feels that they’re eerily similar. Thanks!

Thanks for playing, everyone — till next time!

Yes! #4 is The Princess' Man with Park Shi Hoo and Moon Chae Won. I really loved this show even though I have a hard time with violence and intense scenes. I struggled through this show by fast forwarding the fight scenes and slow-mo through the intrigue and nail-biting story line. The scene where the heroine takes the arrow for the hero is so well done.
This show was well worth it. I strongly recommend it.

#4 is definitely the Princess' Man from 2011. My mom's favourite kdrama of all time! We binged watched it over the Christmas holidays and finished all 24 episodes in 4 days watching at night. Only time my mom's been willing to stay up till 4am every night to watch a show. Almost 5 years later she still wants to hear the OSTs when she rides in my car. Romantic, epic, and with a solid villain and storyline that is above average for sageuks. Highly recommended!!

I'm like 90% certain it's damo (except a lot of people saw that drama, it's from 2003 and ha ji won is a superstar)! It's one of my all-time favourite sageuks!

Definitly damo. There was a fighting scene in the field and arrows being shot at her brother and her and the drama ended with fading

i'm thinking the same thing. Damo with Ha Ji Won and Lee Seo Jin.

One of my all time faves but could never make myself watch it again because it gutted me so so much. X)

Absolutely, Damo. Ha Ji Won, Lee So Jin and Kim Min Noon. Beautifully filmed drama.

Yep, #3 is definitely, 100% Damo. The scene described is in the last episode, episode 14. That was the drama that spawned Lee Sun Hee's song, Fate. Super awesome bad-ass drama!

Number 2 is probably Temptation (http://wiki.d-addicts.com/Temptation). Park Ha Son's character walks out into the ocean to drown herself in despair because her husband has lost all the investor's money due to his partner stealing it and taking off. She's saved by Choi Ji Woo's character, who ends up giving the hubby the money needed to stay out of jail, but phrases it like an Indecent Proposal. (But she actually just works him 20 hours a day as a business consultant for a weekend).

If a fancy pair of heels was involved in the wading scene, it's definitely this one.

Number 3 is 110% Damo from 2003 with Ha Ji Won and Lee Seo Jin. She doesn't know the guy she is fighting with is her brother till the very end, and actually has a proper love line with him until they discover the truth.

Oh my god, early 00s dramas and their fauxcest/almost-incest lines. Why were some writers soooo fascinated by that kind of stuff? Thankfully it doesn't happen much now. People complain about the age gaps in dramas lately but at least they're not doing the whole incest thing anymore! Gag!

Reminds me of Luke and Leia, something that always creeps me out when I watch Empire and THEY KISS.

I might be in the extreme minority here, but I kind of actually like fucked up melodrama, so I like the tension and pain the whole fauxcest/incest/ age-gap thing in both movies and TV series, because it makes it that much more weird. :P (I'm weird. Haha.)

But yeah, I wonder how this trope was so extremely popular and served in so many hit Kdramas in the 2000s. There's a bit of this trope in J-shows as well. I'm guessing everyone took a page out of Old boy?

I think it's still good and alive today, considering the vibes Rijin and RiOn gave in Kill Me, heal me and the underlying context.

I'm not one for melos in general anyway but I can see why stories like that would add to the entertainment factor if you do like it, lol. Makjangs, soap operas, and telenovelas are popular for a reason, right?

I haven't seen KMHM so I didn't know that. Maybe the reason I THINK it has gone away is because the shows that use the trope aren't the type I tend to gravitate towards anyway?

You know where else this topic went in rise in recent time? Hollywood, yeah ?. I watched this movie called 'maps to the stars' out of boredom just because Mia wasikowska was in it, but then it had a creepy brother sister loveline which is just so bizarre. Me and my friend later had to watch an over cheesy film just to get rid of the nauseating feeling the movie brought.
Anyhoo, I think KDramas these days are much more decent rather than the contemporaries, so if nothing, then these will keep me sane ?. Sorry for the off topic though. Feel free to ignore it!

#2 The scene is familiar.. but I think it's Temptation Of A Wife/Wife's Temptation? Well that's pretty popular in country even though it's daily drama. It's aired in 2008-2009.

#4 Definitely The Princess' Man with Moon Chae Won and Park Shi Hoo.

No one knows for sure about #2. It seems like in kdramas men kill themselves by hanging and women by drowning in the sea.

As for my guess I've seen that kind of scene in one more happy ending although the female lead lost her ring and was looking for it and the male lead thought she was killing herself.

Wasn't there a scene like that in that winter the wind blows? But if I remember correctly it was a lake not the sea.

Yeah! I also thought of that winter the wind blows, which has so much crying and depressing scenes, yet at the same time is crazy beautiful (I'm looking at you Jo in sung) and is wonderfully shot.

I recommend it if you like melos :)

I have been looking for the title of a song, it's a fast cute love song by a girl. I have heard it played in so many korean romcoms, but i can't pinpoint which, exactly. Its instrumental version was played in We Got Married Shiso Couple ep 6, after cooking kimchi chigae. I watched the episode on KShowDaily, and the song is at 23:08. PLEASE HELP ME!

The song is Love Lane, by MAMAMOO. It was first used in the 2014 kdrama Marriage, Not Dating (연애 말고 결혼), starring Yeon Woo-jin and Han Groo.

There's a drama or movie I want to ask about.
I love listening to Lee Moon Sae's songs. So I happened to watch this MV: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=akLC8I-X93A
I recognize Kim Kang Woo. And I think one of the girls must be Han Ji Hye. But still I could be wrong since I can't find any movie or drama with the two of them :/

#3 Pretty sure this is Damo, though it wasn't in the 90s and it was popular
#4 Definitely Princess' Man!

But I knew 2(3)! Yay!! :D
