Hello Beanies!!
Last day of 2016, what a year!! Wish 2017 will be kind to all of us and graces with good things, amazing opportunities and most importantly, interesting drama ofc lol.

I am in Copenhagen now waiting for train to go back to Netherland after doing few weeks of Eurotrip. I sincerely miss my bedroom and kitchen so bad rn :( But the trip has been amazing ?

On the current progress,
Currently watching Goblin, this hooks me!! Love everyone although wishing i can see more of Lee Dongwok (he is hilarious) and his awkward banter with Yoo Inna. Need to catch ep 7 and 8 but excited!

Haven't continued 1n2d after Joonyoung left the show for a break but maybe i'll watch them this weekend. And plan to start This Week My Wife is Having an Affair too.

For western series,
Hannibal. Nasty, in the most amazing way. 2 first seasons are so enjoyable but can't say the same for the third. That is some weird move going on there, which makes me reluctant to continue watch it ? anyone watching it too? Any comment?

Sense8. THEY RELEASE CHRISTMAS SPECIAL GUYS WATCH IT NOW
okay sorry a bit too excited. Season 2 is coming and we have christmas special. YAY

And Sherlock! Is! Coming!

I seriously have no idea how to watch all these things in january when all my exams and paper deadline are lined up in this month. Wish me luck guys *finger cross*

Been reading Liar Game the manga. All the games are amazing although the story is not actually character-driven. But it makes me want to see Liar Game kdrama s2 >.<

Alrightttttt need to catch the train. Have a good weekend and happy new year everyone!!

Re Hannibal: i'm major fan. I have watched season 1 live and never left the fandom since then.

I agree with you on the fact that season 3 is the weakest: the structure by arcs separating the season in two distincts parts worked very well for season 2 but is showing its limits there.

The 1st arc is overall a boring mess because it was too long: the only highlights are Mads Mikkelsen and Gillian Anderson and even them can do miracles.
However i recommend you to watch all episodes starting Aperitivo (3x04): this one is a totally well deserved declaration of love for Gina Torres and Laurence Fishburne (who are a real married couple) and the characters they played. That's one of the biggest strength of this show to be able to give the most romantic scenes and to make them shine in a ocean of gore and destruction.
From 3x05 and 3x07, the pace picks up and the show offers again a lot of unexpected twists and turns. It's fun and entertaining with a lot of iconic scenes (from the books and the films).

The 2nd arc starting episode 3x08 is a must see. It's a direct adaptation of the book Red Dragon by Thomas Harris and it guest star Richard Armitage. The show goes back to its roots: a more procedural structure with the hunting of a very demented and scary serial killer, the return of the cat and mouse play between Will and Hannibal and the stunning visual portray of death which made the reputation of the show.

But if there's only one reason to finish the show, it's the final. It's a piece of art: something more unique than ever, even based on the standards of the show, so violent and poetic, so passionate and romantic, so suspenseful and intense.
To talk about it still gives me shivers more than one year after.
The last scene and its music have become a legend and a reference for every other show. It was rated as best season finale on IMDB for a very long time...

So yes, you should totally watch the rest of the season. It's absolutely worth the investment. :)

Thanks for your encouragement!! You really make me want to continue watching it soon XD

Completely agree with you, Gillian and Mads's performance alone really amazes me, although as you said, the first arc with their escape thing just doesn't work that much.

I reached ep 4 already! That last scene of Gina Torres & Laurence Fishburne made me bawl my eyes in tears, everything is just... so beautiful

What bothers me the most is that, in season 3 every character simply becomes fun and interesting, except Will. The first 2 seasons i couldn't help but root for him as he is simply an intriguing character that makes me keep thinking of the line between evil and good. But season 3 he just turns to be.....weird and uninteresting.

Good thing you mentioned it'll get interesting after, i really need that push lol. Probably will continue after all the deadline pass.

In the mean time, let's do the prayer circle for the hope that season 4 can come true :)

Happy New Year, Beanies!

I had to post in this final open thread of 2016 just to express how thankful I am to have found this big magical world that is KDramas! I stumbled upon a clip of "Uncontrollably Fond" in July, having never seen or heard of KDramas in my entire 25 years of life. I found DramaFever, began watching, and have been addicted since! I then discovered DramaBeans, a network full of intelligent people actually discussing and digging deep into these shows (the English teacher in me LOVES discussing and not simply watching to entertained). It is AMAZING! You have something special here. I think this is a hook for life. I love that so many of these dramas are much deeper than excessive "drama", power-struggles, and complicated love stories. My favorite KDramas are the ones that make me contemplate true life lessons. Integrity, sacrifice, leadership, and compassion...

Since July I've watched about 17 shows (my mom says that's SO many, but you all know it's really not that much, haha!) and really have enjoyed the encouraging stories and morals that have been taught.

My favorite shows to date are "Pinocchio", "School 2013", and "Moonlight Drawn by Clouds". "Pinocchio's" themes of living a life of honesty and integrity are so forgotten in our world today. "School 2013" touched my heart as a high school teacher in a real way. You can't always fix all your students problems, but you can believe in them and be their voice of encouragement throughout their time in your classroom (I've obviously caught the Lee Jong-Suk bug, here lol). Lastly, "Moonlight Drawn By Clouds" message that true leadership is found in a reflection of those you surround yourself with... loyalty, service...no one can be great on their own. How poignant and powerful!

I look forward to watching more dramas in the new year and sharing them here with you all!

re: Pinocchio. Right? Every time I see a badly done news story, or watch the media go on an emotion hunt instead of focusing on the facts I just want to say: "go home and watch Pinocchio! You can come back when you're done, and a reformed reporter!"

I'm so excited to find another "Pinocchio" fan around here! I read your review on your blog - you hit the nail right on the head! It's got such powerful, truly meaningful themes and morals. That's why I love it, I'm not just watching it to be entertained, but to be challenged to live better. I can't express my appreciation enough! Thank you for commenting!

I was so restless (they took away my cute! Joon-jae, Joon-hyung come back!) because of preempted shows that I rewatched You Who Came from the Stars. Good time, loved it all the same. The only problem is that now I want Kim Soo-hyun to have a drama comeback. Damn it...

Stalked mbc awards because I'm sooo smitten with lee sungkyung and njh.. lee sungkyung is adorable as usual but njh looks quite cold, rarely smiles, not that I'm judging his personality based on few shots and I wasn't a fan before the drama so I dont really know him. Just a bit disappointed.

I noticed that too but i thk the guy looks awkward and unused to attending the ceremony. I thk the word is ill at ease? Or nervous?
When the camera pans to him and he realises- he looks like he doesnt know to look in which direction- the stage or the camera. Maybe he needs a couple more of these outings to get used to it. Lee Jong Suk and Seo in Guk are such masters at these ceremonies- they enjoy being there with their costars- smiley and chatty. Nam Ji Hyun shined the brightest to me- she has this effortless warmth.

Hola beanies!

So, I've bought Godori/Hwatu cards twice now, couple of years apart, from the local Korean/Japanese store here in USA.

Both times, the owner was highly amused at my request for the cards, so much so that she laughed about it with me, her colleagues, and any customers who happened to be in the vicinity at the time.

Now I didn't feel singled out, and found myself laughing along, but was left quite puzzled at her reaction.

Could someone who's Korean or familiar with the culture help me understand the amusement?

Maybe it's just because it's unexpected?

I know that the local Korean market owner gave me a calendar w/pictures of food & spent some time explaining each dish to me (me: yes, that's Ttebokki, yep, that's dolsot, yep, that's japchae, quit making me hungry)

When I told him that I got interested in cooking Korean food by watching 'Let's Eat', he 'bout fell over laughing.

...and now I'm starving for bibimbap.

BTW - Is anybody still watching V-Focus? The ex-boyfriend plays the lead in The Rose which is why I watched it. I like V-Focus and parts are wonderful. I am, however, wondering how they are going to make gentle Beta-Male Ke Guo Long compete with Jian Ye, the ultimate man's man. Granted, the lead should not go back to JY, but Ke Guo Long seems so childlike that he pales a bit when compared to JY.

In the writing, I wish they would give him even a few scenes where he is a bit more of her emotional equal. He's so sweet and good and I love him. It's just that I have a hard time shipping them after JY's scenes. It feels a bit like the mistake, IMHO, that Better Man made with the adorable elder brother. The writer's (who were generally fun and wonderful) gave him a little sister figure and a girlfriend that were the same age. They made the girlfriend childlike and it was hard to see her being mature enough to fit him in terms of a relationship. It was especially obvious when he would baby his dead fiancés' little sister and then would go on a date with his super child-like girlfriend of the same age. It just made the chasm between them more glaringly obvious. I feel the same thing is happening here. Every time super hombre Jian Ye shows up, Guo Long just seems like a sweet little brother. I hope they deal with that because they were my favorite couple at first.

I'm also enjoying Behind Your Smile.

Stay with Me is tolerable, but I haven't made the connection I hoped to with the leads.
