Perfect Wife: Episode 10

Eun-hee is ready to activate the final stage of her plan, but she forgot to account for one very important thing: Jae-bok’s tenacity. Jae-bok isn’t about to give up without a fight, not even as she begins to realize just exactly what she’s up against. She’s going to have the fight of her life on her hands, but when it’s winner-takes-all, there’s nothing she won’t do to protect what belongs to her.

EPISODE 10 RECAP

Eun-hee throws herself in front of her craft room door, terrified that Jae-bok and Won-jae might see what’s inside. Jae-bok wants to know what Won-jae’s daughter saw that made Eun-hee so angry that she would hurt her, and Eun-hee’s refusal to open the door only strengthens her suspicion.

Jae-bok backs off on the condition that Eun-hee explains why she hurt Che-ri (Won-jae’s daughter). But Hyung-sun swoops in and unlocks the door, even as Eun-hee tearfully begs her not to do it. Hyung-sun actually shoves the women inside, but once in, they realize there’s nothing obviously strange about the room.

Che-ri points to a curtain obscuring the nook in which she saw Jung-hee’s picture. Eun-hee pleads with Jae-bok not to look behind it with tears streaming down her face, but Jae-bok pushes the curtain aside.

Behind the curtain, they see just a set of shelves holding normal crafting supplies. Shaking with anger, Hyung-sun raises her hand to hit Jae-bok, but Jae-bok grabs her wrist. Hyung-sun screams, “Why are you doing this to my child!” and seconds later, Eun-hee barks, “Stop talking, Mom!”

Jae-bok is stunned to learn that Hyung-sun is Eun-hee’s mother. Hyung-sun runs out of the room, and Eun-hee asks if Jae-bok and Won-jae are satisfied now. Jae-bok says that regardless of what’s in the room, Eun-hee shouldn’t have yelled at Che-ri and cut her finger.

She asks for an apology for Che-ri and Won-jae. Eun-hee levels a death glare at Che-ri, so Jae-bok orders her to apologize this time, adding that afterward, they’ll apologize too. Though it looks like it kills her, Eun-hee apologizes to Che-ri, Won-jae, and Jae-bok.

Jae-bok follows Eun-hee downstairs to ask why she hid the fact that Hyung-sun is her mother. She realizes that even Kyung-woo didn’t seem to know it when he was in the house, since he spoke to her like a housekeeper. Eun-hee admits that nobody knows, not even Kyung-woo.

All Eun-hee will say in explanation is that all families have their secrets. Jae-bok argues that she deserves to know the truth after the things Hyung-sun has done to her family.

When they hear Jung-hee and his mother’s voices downstairs, Eun-hee uses the distraction to escape Jae-bok’s scrutiny. Jae-bok’s mother-in-law says she’s here to protect her son’s family, and we see that Jae-bok told Jung-hee that she was taking the kids to Won-jae’s, for good this time.

Tired of lying, Jae-bok decides to come clean about the divorce. She informs her mother-in-law that Jung-hee agreed that Jae-bok would have custody of the kids, making it clear that she has authority over them as their mother, though she adds that she’ll always respect her mother-in-law as their grandmother.

Later, Won-jae ends up at Hye-ran’s new gym, being talked into buying a membership. They’re both surprised to see Sam-kyu there signing up for a VVIP membership, and he grins like a fool when Hye-ran hangs on his neck, squealing with gratitude.

His happy mood deflates when Hye-ran greets a young, handsome coworker just as brightly, ha. Trying to make Hye-ran jealous, Sam-kyu flirts heavily with Won-jae, who is totally not interested.

Jung-hee shows up for his first day back at his old job, only to find that Boss Jo is also back and nasty as ever. Jung-hee asks what happens to his supposed paralysis, but Boss Jo just says he’ll get hurt if he finds out.

Na-mi is staying with Bong-gu, and he tells her to come clean about being paid to approach Jung-hee. He even knows that Hyung-sun was the one who paid her, and he asks if it was to ensure that Jung-hee gets a divorce. Na-mi doesn’t answer, which Bong-gu interprets as a confession.

Eun-hee finds Hyung-sun in her room to ask why she revealed that they’re mother and daughter. Hyung-sun answers that she couldn’t stand seeing Eun-hee treated that way, which just has Eun-hee laughing and saying that Hyung-sun has treated her even worse. Hyung-sun snaps that she’s doing all this to make up for that.

Jae-bok tells Bong-gu about Hyung-sun being Eun-hee’s mother. He connects the dots and concludes that she probably paid Na-mi to seduce Jung-hee, and probably did it because of Eun-hee.

Meanwhile, Boss Jo seems determined to make Jung-hee’s life even more of a hell than he did before. He sends Jung-hee to reorganize the warehouse, threatening to fire him if he doesn’t obey. Jung-hee goes reluctantly, fails to convince anyone that he hurts his back lifting a heavy bag, then gets to work for real.

Na-mi watches him sadly through the gate until a tap on the shoulder alerts her to Hyung-sun’s presence. Na-mi tries to stick to her story about not remembering Hyung-sun, but her reaction to seeing her face gives her away.

Na-mi tries to make a run for it, but a large man grabs her and starts to drag her off. Suddenly, another man wearing a mask yanks Na-mi’s attacker away from her, and holds his attention while Na-mi escapes. Hyung-sun grabs the newcomer angrily, so he pulls off his mask to reveal that it’s the guy who took Na-mi to the villa after her accident.

Stunned, Hyung-sun breathes his name… Brian. (I knew it!) Brian gently says that it’s time to stop all this, calling her “Mom,” and she asks haltingly if it’s been him this whole time. Brian doesn’t answer. Instead he just gives her a cheerful smile and salute before walking away.

In a small room at her house, Eun-hee flits around making everything just so, stopping briefly to breathe deeply into a man’s sweater. She excitedly answers a call from Brian, whom she hasn’t heard from since he returned from the States, and he says that he’s been traveling.

Brian grows serious and adds that he wishes for Eun-hee to live well — not the way she lived before. Eun-hee tells him that she’s about to become very happy soon, but instead of being pleased for her, Brian just sighs heavily.

Bong-gu tricks Boss Jo into meeting him at a coffee shop by offering him a bribe. Boss Jo quickly recognizes Bong-gu as the guy who took pics of him in the hospital proving he wasn’t paralyzed. But Bong-gu just shows him the picture he snapped of Hyung-sun and asks if she put him up to faking his injuries.

Boss Jo starts to run, but Bong-gu stops him by reading a list of his crimes, including embezzlement and taking bribes. At first, Boss Jo lies that he knows nothing, but when faced with the evidence against him, he crumbles.

Bong-gu learns that Hyung-sun paid Boss Jo to make sure Jung-hee was fired. Boss Jo doesn’t know why, only that Hyung-sun said Jung-hee needed to be ruined. Now Bong-gu has evidence that Hyung-sun paid both Na-mi and Boss Jo to ruin Jung-hee’s personal and professional life, he just doesn’t know the reason.

Jin-wook gets out of school to find Eun-hee waiting for him, and she says that she’s sad he’ll be staying at Che-ri’s house from now on. Before he goes, she stops him to say something, though we don’t hear what she wants.

Sam-kyu and Won-jae take their first personal workout class with Hye-ran together, though Won-jae acts like she’d rather be anywhere else in the world, ha. Sam-kyu helps Hye-ran get Won-jae into the correct yoga position, tush in the air. As often happens during yoga, Won-jae farts — right in their faces.

Hye-ran and Sam-kyu fall back in horror, and Won-jae flees, embarrassed. On her way out, she runs into Hye-ran’s stalker, Mrs. Park, who is still passing out flyers slandering Hye-ran.

Hye-ran chases Mrs. Park out of the building and down the street until she gets herself wedged between two cars. Hye-ran grabs her, demanding to know why she’s still being harassed when she broke things off the moment she found out the man was married. Mrs. Park bursts into tears and wails that she knows, waving for Hye-ran to just leave her alone.

Eun-hee’s spy at Jung-hee’s workplace calls her to report that Jung-hee was sent to do manual labor in the warehouse. Needless to say, she is not pleased, so she makes another call.

That evening, Jae-bok’s friends ask if she worries about Jung-hee being alone in that big house with Eun-hee. Jae-bok acts like she doesn’t care, but Hye-ran thinks that a woman who’s been alone as long as Eun-hee must be on the prowl. She gets an idea, but we don’t hear what it is.

When Jung-hee gets back to Eun-hee’s house after work, she leads him to another music room, bigger than the last (does this house have an infinite number of rooms?). This studio has several guitars, a drum set, and walls covered in Jimi Hendrix memorabilia. Eun-hee says that this room is her gift to Jung-hee, ignoring his obvious discomfort at her lavish gesture.

She tells Jung-hee that with her help, he’ll become an even greater man than he is now. He remembers that she never answered his question and asks again if they’ve met before, and Eun-hee giggles and says they just have a special bond.

She puts on some romantic music and gives Jung-hee a glass of wine to toast his new audio room. She takes Jung-hee’s hand and guides it to her waist, stepping closer to him and swaying with the music. Jung-hee looks confused, but he doesn’t push her away.

Jung-hee jumps away from Eun-hee guiltily when the doorbell rings. It’s Hye-ran at the door, appearing to be sloppy drunk and belligerent. She slurs that she drank because she’s so upset over his and Jae-bok’s divorce.

Eun-hee enters the room, looking seriously annoyed with this interruption to her perfect moment. Hye-ran tells Jung-hee that his landlady is such a fake, and invites him to have a drink with her. He goes just to stop her from making even more of a scene.

He calls Won-jae’s house, and Won-jae lies that Jae-bok has gone to bed already. She hangs up, and Jae-bok blusters that Hye-ran’s plan is dumb even though Won-jae knows she’s secretly enjoying this.

Jung-hee is such a lightweight that he passes out after only a couple of drinks. Hye-ran has been furtively pouring her drinks out, which Eun-hee witnesses from her vantage point around the corner. She knows this was all a setup to get her away from Jung-hee.

Mrs. Park spots Hyung-sun sitting in a restaurant with her assistant and runs over to say hello. Evidently they knew each other when they were younger, and Hyung-sun seems just as happy to see Mrs. Park. They sit to catch up, and it’s interesting how Hyung-sun makes a face when Mrs. Park says that she heard she’s rich now.

Mrs. Park asks if Hyung-sun’s daughter is better these days, which gets Hyung-sun’s hackles up. She demands to know who said her daughter wasn’t well, and Mrs. Park says that she heard she was having mental issues. Hyung-sun calls Mrs. Park ignorant, and Mrs. Park fires back that at least she wasn’t someone’s mistress. Meow.

Na-mi wakes from a nightmare of being attacked by Hyung-sun to find Bong-gu by her bed. For once, he just listens as she says she’s scared, and he lets her cry on his shoulder. He asks her how she survived, but all Na-mi knows is that she woke in the morgue with Brian standing over her, asking if she was okay. After she falls asleep again, Bong-gu vows to get revenge for what she’s been through.

When Jae-bok drops Jin-wook at school the following morning, he asks if she’s busy today. She says she is, and he starts to ask her something about Eun-hee, but changes his mind. On her way out of town on business, Jae-bok talks to Won-jae, who tells her that their kids’ class has a workshop today.

It’s a “Cooking With Mom” workshop, and their teacher announces that Jin-wook’s mother will be teaching the class. But instead of Jae-bok, it’s Eun-hee who enters the room. Though Jin-wook knew she’d be here today, he tells Che-ri that he had no idea she’d claim to be his mother.

Jae-bok remembers Jin-wook asking if she was busy before mentioning Eun-hee, and she gets an idea as to what’s probably happening. She makes a U-turn back toward her son’s school. Eun-hee’s face falls when Jae-bok enters the classroom and introduces herself as Jin-wook’s real mom.

She cheerily apologizes for being late and says she had no idea that someone else would pretend to be her. She neatly dismisses Eun-hee, who stands back resentfully as Jae-bok continues the lesson. It’s sweet how Jin-wook looks happy to see his real mother there.

After class, Eun-hee says that she didn’t tell Jae-bok about the workshop because she was so busy, and she felt bad for Jin-wook, who was sad that his mother never comes to his school. Jae-bok scoffs and asks how Eun-hee thinks his actual mother feels.

Next, Jae-bok talks to Jin-wook, who is ashamed that he didn’t tell his mom about the workshop and that he asked Eun-hee to come instead. She says she feels pretty bad that he did that, but she tells him that she still loves him very much. Jin-wook asks if she still loves his dad, but Jae-bok avoids the question.

Eun-hee gives Sam-kyu tickets to her company’s anniversary gala, enough for him to bring his employees. Sam-kyu worries that Jae-bok won’t want to attend since Jung-hee works there, but Eun-hee says that there will be something at the gala that Jae-bok should find very amusing.

Eun-hee adds that she also wants to observe someone’s behavior, looking pointedly at the nameplate on Bong-gu’s desk. Another fat envelope of cash ensures that Sam-kyu will do as she asks.

He approaches Bong-gu and Jae-bok about the gala, saying that it’s a good networking opportunity to drum up clients. Bong-gu looks skeptical, but Jae-bok is curious enough to go, so he agrees.

He takes Jae-bok shopping for a new purse, ostensibly so she’ll look professional at the gala. She tries to refuse, but he insists and smiles when he sees Jae-bok admiring herself in the mirror.

Boss Jo is verbally abusing Jung-hee again, though Jung-hee looks like he’s getting to the end of his patience. Eun-hee’s spy sends Jung-hee to see Eun-hee, who has brought several suits for him to try on for the gala. She says this is the first step in her plan to make him a great man, though she asks for a promise from him in return.

Sam-kyu brings Hye-ran to the gala as his date, and they go inside with Bong-gu and Jae-bok to watch the inauguration of the new chief directors. Eun-hee enters the room to make the announcements, almost unrecognizable in her bright red dress and free flowing hair.

Jae-bok is stunned to hear that Eun-hee is the company director, and Bong-gu reveals that he learned she’s the chairman’s daughter. But that’s nothing compared to her utter shock when Jung-hee is announced as one of the new chief directors, and he steps onto the stage in his new suit and professional haircut. (Damn, he cleans up good.)

Jung-hee moves forward to make a short acceptance speech, looking and sounding like a completely new man. In the back of the room, Na-mi hides and watches as a look passes between Jung-hee and Eun-hee.

Jae-bok can’t take her eyes off Jung-hee and Eun-hee as they greet the partygoers, looking like a true power couple. Rumors quickly spark that the two are having an affair, and Hye-ran listens in and reports back to Jae-bok that Eun-hee got Jung-hee his job back, then this promotion.

The rumors also say that the two are getting married soon, and for the first time, Jae-bok reacts. She denies that it could be true, believing that Eun-hee still loves Kyung-woo, but she can’t ignore that the whole thing looks fishy.

Na-mi listens to their conversation from her hiding place in a bathroom stall, and the idea that Jung-hee may marry another woman horrifies her. She stumbles out of the bathroom to find herself face-to-face with Brian, who grabs her when she tries to run and tells her not to be stupid.

Jae-bok pulls Eun-hee aside to talk, demanding to know why Eun-hee is doing all this for Jung-hee. Bong-gu secretly eavesdrops as Eun-hee freely admits that she has feelings for Jung-hee.

Boss Jo is worried to find that Jung-hee is suddenly his boss, so he approaches and holds out a hand to shake, meek as a lamb. But Jung-hee just gives Boss Jo this look of utter disdain and doesn’t even lower himself to speak to him.

Jae-bok asks Eun-hee if she decided to go after Jung-hee before or after they divorced, and again Eun-hee honestly admits that it was before. She tries to make it sound as if she waited until they were no longer married out of respect, but Jae-bok doesn’t believe that for a second.

She says that Eun-hee herself said that she still loves Kyung-woo, but Eun-hee corrects her — she never said the name of the person she loves.

Jung-hee goes looking for Eun-hee and overhears the last part of their conversation. He looks uncomfortable but approaches the ladies, and Eun-hee takes his arm possessively. Jung-hee tells Jae-bok that he’ll call her later and lets himself be led away.

But Jae-bok isn’t finished — she steps in front of Jung-hee and Eun-hee and forbids Eun-hee to like him. Bong-gu moves closer but stays at a short distance as Jae-bok says that Jung-hee is her ex-husband and her children’s father, and they will always be friends.

Eun-hee still doesn’t understand why she can’t have him, so Jae-bok lays out the truth: “Because you’re a psycho.”

COMMENTS

Ha, look at that grin on Bong-gu’s face, he thinks Jae-bok is just the best thing ever with her spunk and bravery in confronting her family’s stalker. Bong-gu knows more than anyone that Jae-bok would be justified in avoiding Eun-hee out of sheer terror, but he’s so impressed with her willingness to get in Eun-hee’s face at every turn. I don’t blame him one bit — rarely have I seen a heroine so fearless, so capable of calling out those who’ve wronged her, and so unerringly right in her convictions. Jae-bok is a superhero, and I want to be her when I grow up.

While part of me was originally hoping to see a little romance between Bong-gu and Jae-bok, now I just love their reluctant friendship so much that I hope nothing ever changes between them. They’re the ultimate odd couple — Jae-bok with her grumpy attitude and grudging acceptance of Bong-gu’s oddities, and he with his naked admiration of her strength and capable spirit. He never takes it personally when Jae-bok rebuffs his friendly overtures and stays steadfastly by her when she needs him, and he only gets upset when Jae-bok doesn’t let him support her as much as he’d like to. Their relationship is perfect as it is, and I wouldn’t want anything to change it.

It took me ten episodes, but I think I’ve finally figured out what Jung-hee’s biggest problem is — he’s too much of a people-pleaser. He ends up in these awkward, damaging situations because he doesn’t want to disappoint anyone. So when his boss abuses him or a woman comes onto him, he doesn’t stand up for himself because he doesn’t want them to think badly of him — but since he’s just allowing things to happen instead of taking control, the consequences grow beyond what he can handle. Then to outsiders he looks an incompetent cheater, but it’s not that he’s naturally a bad person, he’s just too much of a milquetoast to nip someone else’s inappropriate behavior in the bud before it goes too far. For instance, I don’t think Jung-hee is actually interested in Eun-hee romantically, and you’d think that after she tried to kiss him once before, he’d avoid being in a room alone with her… especially when she’s created such an obviously romantic atmosphere. You could tell Jung-hee was uncomfortable, but as susceptible as he is to positive female attention, he just doesn’t have the guts to say no. So while a part of me was glad to see his newfound confidence at the gala, a larger part is wondering if it’s real. A person doesn’t go from pushover to power player within hours just because they got a fancy new suit and haircut.

Eun-hee, on the other hand, is becoming downright predatory when it comes to Jung-hee. It feels like she’s moving in on him extremely fast, so I have to keep reminding myself that she’s been planning this for years, if not decades. And he’s a man who’s legally separated and going to be divorced in a matter of months, so he’s pretty much fair game. And he hasn’t said anything to make Eun-hee think he’s not interested in her, either. He hasn’t actually said he is interested, but his subtle expressions of discomfort are going to go right over the head of a woman as obsessed and emotionally unstable as Eun-hee.

The character of Brian intrigues me (and not just because I’m a big fan of N), and I hope to see a lot more of him soon. He seems to be a good kid, as he’s told both Hyung-sun and Eun-hee several times to live well and stay in the light, not the dark. It feels as though their family went through a very bad period with Eun-hee’s mental state, probably after Eun-hee “lost” Jung-hee, and that Brian has made a point to distance himself from them since then. But he clearly still loves them and wants them to move forward and be happy. I have a strong feeling that Brian is the one who will shed light on Eun-hee’s past, and I hope that he chooses to help Jae-bok and Jung-hee if they need it, even if only to tell them what they need to know to break free of Eun-hee’s grasp. He certainly seems to be helping Na-mi already, since he’s the one who faked her death and rescued her from his mother’s clutches twice now. He obviously knows what his mother and Eun-hee are up to, at least enough to stay a step ahead of them, which makes him very, very interesting.

I like how Jae Bok is sensitive individual with feelings at the same time strong woman character. We have women characters in drama world where they act bossy and just thats all. But Jae Bok is different. She just overcomes her moments of despair with strong will and we see how she rises herself out of her vulnerable points in her life with her pep talk.
As LolyPip said "Jae-bok is a superhero, and I want to be her when I grow up". This drama may not be like my favourite but her charcter is one of my favourites.
This might be one of my favourite Sung Joon characters tilll date.

I agree that Jae Bok shows another definition of what it means to be strong - a definition that is more realistic and attainable.

Like Lollypip, I was also thinking that I want to be her when I grow older. I want to be as cool and collected. As sympathetic and as firm. I'm surprised and yet not surprised that she didn't yank Eun Hee from Jin Wook's class. She just firmly stated she was Jin Wook's mom and somehow slide herself into Eun Hee's spot and finished the cooking lesson. She didn't call out Eun Hee on her disturbing idea or Jin Wook on being a little jerk in front of everyone nor did she flounder and just stand to the side, feeling victimized. Either option is what you'd expect from a drama character. This was all masterfully done.

"I'm surprised and yet not surprised that she didn't yank Eun Hee from Jin Wook's class"

Exactly. Remember that hospital scene when Na Mi was rushed to the hospital and she caught Jung Hee red handed being all, worried lover to Na Mi?
She actually suggested that they all take the confrontation to the rooftop so that they don't make a scene. That scene really stayed in my mind because its usually not the case, in real life or TV. When the woman don't react passionately, its either because she's playing this tough boss who's unfazed by even a cheating partner or because the woman is a doormat that collapses into self-pity but would go on to reclaim her life and find herself.

In many other shows, Jae Bok would be a second lead or if she was a main lead, she'd be some cold bossy b!tch, initially misunderstood as some wicked robot, but would later turn out to be a total marshmallow. But here, there's no misunderstanding. She's not misrepresented to us. She is firm and straightforward Jae Bok, the realist. An she's not introduced to us as with high-temp rock music yelling, 'Bhaddest B!tch in the building, bow down!!'. No. She's not some fantastic rarity. She's ordinary with ordinary people problems; shed not the head of a conglomerate or a Chaebol heiress( though I still loved YongPal's heroine, our Crocodile Queen and I absolutely love Ok Da Jung of Ms. Temper, she's bae!!), she's faced with a cheating and a loser of a spouse(very common), she's poor and in need of money. From episode one, we see her advising a woman with a cheating spouse on how pointless a fight was and the best way to capitalize on the situation. She's very pragmatic and won't engage in pointless activities if it's not really the best course of action and is not exactly what she wants. She can be very stubborn too. I'm glad that even her Mother-In-Law knows her personality. That means she doesn't pretend to be some good, meek and long suffering Daughter-In-Law to her.

And more importantly, she's not devoid of flaws. She may be very cool and rational most of the time, but she has her moments when she looses it. Like she tells Jung Hee and Na Mi that she was going to sue them for emotional damage lol. Or when her patience with Jung Hee is tried and she sends snarky remarks his way. Or when she chased Na Mi initially. But what I love about her is that she self-reflects. In episode one, she advised the woman not to lose her cool and waste her time, worked up over a cheating spouse. But when she found out that her own spouse was cheating on her, she admitted that it was easier for her to give such advise because she was not the one in the situation. After she frustratedly said hurtful words to Jung Hee, she came back later to try to make up( that didn't work and she didn't handle that very well). When she decided to separate from her husband, she initially kicked him out and didn't let him see the kids. But when she realized just how...

Jung Hee is such a softie and without conviction. While I feel sorry for Jae Bok for having such a loser of a husband, I know that Jung Hee loves her but because of his low self-esteem, he is easily swayed by others.

Eun Hee/ Eun Kyung's past is beginning to catch up with her, and I believe Bryan will be her saving grace. Whatever it was that happened in the past, there simply is no excuse for the manipulation and power play that she and her mother have been doing.

Besides being yet another episode in which we see Jae-Bok blessedly put puzzles together and confront the perpetrators (rather than stew or turn a blind eye as other more patsy-like heroines would do), we *finally* see the end of one of the more atrocious hairdos in drama history! Now if only Eun-hee would suggest that he grow a mustache…

But I don't know that I fully agree that Jung-hee wouldn't respond to Eun-hee's moves because I think he's a little simple-minded in some ways and I think that deep down (while he loves his family) he misses being the big music star adored by the ladies and enjoys the ego stroking that comes along with the attentions of Na-mi and Eun-hee and doesn't have the moral backbone to resist them.

I don't know if Bong-gu and Jae-Bok are destined for more than a beautiful partner/friendship, but I like their intelligence and persistence in solving puzzles a whole lot more than the unchallenging relationship between Jae-Bok and Jung-hee, even if they are the parents of two children. It seems like Jung-hee's been a third child for a long time.

I just loved the grin on Bong-Gu' face !! The grin tells everything about how he loves Jae Bok's spunkiness and bluntness ( and her smart brain). I love to see their romance because he is the one who loves and accepts things in her that her x-husband disliked. Despite of his age, he has some maturity that accepts smart and strong woman and he never lets himself intimidated by her. He admires her for what she is.
Jung Hee will be a terrible leader of the company. He can easily bankrupt the company. Would Eun Hee still love him after he fails her company? I wonder,,,.

I think the answer to your question is YES. EH is totally obsessed with JH. She can and will follow him to hell, I bet.
And I agree with you about BG. He does appear to like everything about JB that JH disliked.

Yes, EH says in one of the earlier episodes that she doesn't care about money and implies that she only cares about being with JH. Although I scoffed a bit when she said that since her elaborate plan to get JH depends heavily on influencing people with money.

Is it just me who thinks that Bong-gu is suspicious of Sam-kyu ? When Sam-kyu walked up on He and Jae-bok, he quickly hid the phone.

I think it was the amount of work that Sam Kyu gave Jae Bok that made him suspicious. As his friend, he'd know something is up when his seemingly scatterbrained friend suddenly gets so much work out of nowhere.

Which reminds me, was it explained how these two became friends? Sam Kyu as Jae Bok's friend's ex would imply that he is more or less their age, right? And Bong Gu is younger than them? Did I miss something?

Yes, Bong-gu is younger than sam kyu bcoz he calls him Hyung. I don't think it was ever explained how they become friends but seems like they were long time friends. That day in his house he told that he always comes to bong gu's house without informing beforehand and he even know the door password.

I call it as lawyer's instinct heh.Lawyers always observe the situations and be extra careful.

I think he found him odd from the day he gave Jae Bok tons of works from nowhere. Because he simply has no reason to do that.So Bok Goo has a little suspicious but this guy will waut until he sees more proof

Yes, Bong-gu became suspicious last episode when he heard that Sam-kyu paid his rent, which he usually doesn't. That makes BG suspect (correctly) that SK may have received money from EH and co.

I wasn't sure if he was suspicious at that time or if he was just hiding their non-work-related activities.

But if he wasn't suspicious, he must surely be suspicious now. I'm sure he noticed that EH is working the people in Jung Hee/Jae Bok circle. And with EH being revealed as the daughter of the Chairman of JH's company at the party that Sam Kyu wanted them to attend...

I originally watch (and I still do actually) this drama for Sung Joon. As always, he is a delight to watch when he plays a character with goofy and quirky ways. He is adorable as Bong Gu, and that grin at the end shows so much love and adoration for Jae Bok's candor and strength.

I am still hopeful of a romance between Bong Gu and Jae Bok. She needs a man who appreciates her strength. Jung Hee is a spineless fool who does not deserve her. Yes, he may be too much of a people pleaser but what I dislike the most is that he always makes Jae Bok seem bad to his mom as if he was the wronged one in their relationship.

My heart won't be able to take it if Bong Gu gets the second lead treatment! Aargh!

Truthfully I would be happy either way, romance or friendship. Jae-bok just needs someone strong by her side that she can trust. Whether that person is a romantic partner or not.

But Sung Joon does noona romance very well ?

True that. I think it's because Sung Joon is such a man-boy - looks and sounds like a man but has so much boyish char, especially when he grins. Allen Woo is still myy fave character.

Totally agree Karla about Sung Joon! Man boy perfectly describes him! Lol! He is the perfect mix between boyish charm (oh yes that grin!) & so many irresistible manly qualities about him (oh the voice and sultry looks, and let's not forget the way he kisses, actual real honest to goodness kisses! Something unseen in kdramaland!) omgoodness, I can't get enough of him! But his character in this is the best too, I'm just loving it, even without a romance!

I would love to see season 2 with Bong Gu and Jae Bok as an investigative team solving other mysteries while remaining respectful of each other. Romance could be explored at that point. Call it "Perfect Partners". They should capitalize on the fantastic relationship these two characters have.

@LollyPip i think you should put the screencap when jaebok called eunhee psycho right at her face. i don't know why i feel urghh this so satisfied feeling when i noticed a slight dark tone in eunhee's face after called as psycho. i guess it's not the first time someone told her that. even Junghee maybe called her that in past, perhaps?

I think Brian is trying to play cleanup for his sister. He obviously knows she is crazy and is trying to protect the people that are in her crosshairs.

Jae-bok finally said it, what we all sensed from the beginning: she is a psycho! I am so glad she said it out loud. And the look on Bong-gu's face was perfect.

I hope Jung-hee finally sees the light. I agree that he is just a pushover and someone who always aims to please. I am curious to know what will happen when he regains his memories. Will they be good or bad? Will Eun-hee be crazy in them or did her psychotic ways manifest after his memory loss?

Is anybody thinking that Eun-hee might end up going all Fatal Attraction? Hahaha

I agree with LollyPip about Jung Hee. Milquetoast is the right word. I don't think he has any attraction to Eun Hee at all. He has this look of unease as if he knows something is off, but can't place it and in his world, there is no reason to be rude to someone...his employer, no less, who seems to be so nice to him. I think he's been looking this way since the almost car accident.

I think Eun Hee was president of his fan club back in the day and became fanatical. So if Jung Hee rejects her will she go Kathy Bates/Misery on him is my big question right now.

Love that Bong Gu wanted to get Jae Bok something at the store when he's always been on the receiving end in the past.

Glad to see some loyalty out of the son. His lack of loyalty was really bothering me. Sons tend to be pretty loyal to their moms.

Jung-hee seems like he tries to please everyone but Jae-bok. I really hope they don't try to make it seem like Jae-bok is the reason that Jung-hee is such a loser. Before he was cheating, he had already put them in peril by co-signing for a friends loan. Infidelity and financial issues have got to be top 3, if not #1 and #2 in causes for divorce.

I felt somewhat relieved that Jae-bok's reason was because Eun-hee is crazy and not because she actually wants Jung-hee. It would have been disrespectful to her character to have her swayed by the look and the job.

Really wondering why his name is Brian. Was Hyung-sun the mistress of some American businessman?

Financial issues usually top the list of reasons for stress in a marriage. Why are they always signing loans for friends in k-dramaland?

I thought when she met her long lost friend, it was hinted that the mom was a "2nd wife". At least that is what I thought was implied, but I might not be understanding correctly.

the signing loans for friends thing annoys me so much! And it's always the dumb men who do it, putting his entire family in a vulnerable position. the loan sharks go after the family members for the debt.

So, the 2nd wife of an American businessman maybe? It's the name "Brian" that's throwing me. She's Hyung-sun. The sister is Eun-kyung (Eun-hee) and he's... Brian? Idk. It's an odd thing to be hung up on, but it just doesn't seem to fit.

YES! I also was super happy that Jae-bok is looking out for Jung-hee as a friend, and that she's against Eun-hee because she's dangerous and psycho and she doesn't want Jung-hee to be caught up in that! I love it when exes are still friends and have each others' backs. Divorce happens for many reasons, but hooray for friendship and loyalty!

But when she realized just how much they were missing their father she relented, even going as far as trying reconciliation. After that episode with them trying to forcefully enter Eun Hee's locked room, she told Eun Hee that she would apologize if Eun Hee also apologized to Che Ri.

Best of all, she's not devoid of empathy. It was that empathy that made her ignore or suppress her initial misgivings about Eun Hee, giving her the benefit of doubt as first, a lonely friendless woman, then a lonely childless, and then a lovesick abused woman. She was going to leave but then stayed because of Eun Hee's (fake)hurt leg. She rushed Na Mi to the hospital when she collapsed, she went to her funeral and felt sad for her. Even when Bong Gu used to get on her last nerve, she tied his shoelaces, fed him e.t.c.

She's badass because she's real, understanding, rational, intelligent, hardworking, brave, straightforward, truthful (to the best of her ability) and HUMAN with human flaws. I Heart Jae Bok( hope she stays awesome to the end)!!!! sorry for the long write up!

Thanks for the recap!

I have to admit that I was a bit disappointed by this episode. I love the way JB is written: real, cool, with flaws but with awesome qualities too. However, I think they should have written JH with a special trait that would explain why everyone just goes ga-ga over him. I mean c'mon 3 ladies over this guy with no qualities at all ??!! (except MAYBE that he is a good dad; or that he is nice? A pushover with no spine really). I think it makes the story less and less believable. Why would anyone go to that extent for this guy??!! ??? or there needs to be something deeper abt EH obsession with JH because at this point it makes me feel a bit underwhelmed. I still love the show tho and JB is really the bomb.com ??

Well, I think his wife fell in love with the cool rock star and really so did Eun Hee....it's just that she's psycho so she doesn't need a reason to continue having these feelings. She's a fanatic and delusional. I think NaMi is the surprise because someone in her situation wouldn't normally be attracted to this guy, but I think that she actually got to know him, and he was respectful and nice to her which she hadn't had much of in her life. I have to suspend reality to think she actually thought she'd have a future with him however.

Yea... u're right EH is mentally unstable so for her it might be understandable. Still I think it's stretching a bit far. I'm truly hoping there is somethg a bit deeper aside "falling for the cool rock guy" and I trust the writers will make it that way when revealing the whole mystery abt EH. For JB, that's exactly what I'm saying: from what we see so far she doesnt appear like someone who would fall for the "cool rock guy"... Anyways, cant wait for nxt week!

As crazy as Eun Hee is, Jung Hee almost scares me more. To describe his as a people pleaser is not adequate. He's almost to a pathological degree a people pleaser. He's dangerous because he says what he thinks the other person wants to hear, and he believes it. He may be lying, but he honestly believes it in the moment, which makes him scary. So, when Jae Bok needed to believe his affair was over, he assured her it was--and he believed it. In that moment, he wasn't lying. He honest-to-God believed he would put aside Na Mi for his family. But then, when faced with sad Na Mi, he promised her he would leave his family for her. And in that moment, he honest-to-God believed it.

It's like he has no center or core to himself. Whoever is strongest, he will follow. And he believes it. And then the people in his life believe. They really do believe him. So Jae Bok really did trust him, that he would forget Na Mi. And Na Mi really did believe that he would choose her over his family. Even though I think it's unconscious, that level of manipulation on Jung Hee's part is the scary thing. All the women in his life are looking at him to step up and be the man he says he want to be. But at the slightest sign of conflict, he gives up all his bravado. He can't be trusted AT ALL, for ANYTHING because he is not a person--he is a reaction to those around him.

Eun Hee is crazypants and creepy and a true psycho. But Jung Hee represents a lot of people in this world that we encounter. People who say and do things only because they are expected of them. That level of deception is scary to me.

I don't care if Jae Bok ends up alone or with Bong Gu. But if she ends up with Jung Hee, I will be so upset. It would be too crazy. As crazy as Eun Hee.

Wow, @hollyjane, I've never thought of Jung Hee that way! And his just so ineffective, useless (most of the time) and could never think for himself that I couldn't think of him as dangerous.

"he's not a person –he is a reaction to those around him" too true!!!!

First off lollipop your closing comments pretty much took the words right out of my mouth about everything & everyone! Couldn't agree more! About Jung hee, I never thought he was a bad or terrible person, just weak, no self esteem or confidence, susceptible to positive female attention, not wanting to hurt anyone's feelings, yes a true people pleaser, but still think he has a good heart and good intentions. But holleyjane you have definitely brought out some very good points as well! I think you're on to something, I just can't quite figure him out either, but hopefully time will shed some more light on the subject, and I think whatever happened in the past between him and EH might have a big bearing on the matter, I hope. He does really seem lost & clueless at times, and can tell he really doesn't know what to think of EH, is definitely uncomfortable around her but again, doesn't want to hurt her or be rude without reason. I love how he handled his old boss Bo though, he didn't even deserve the honor of a response, that was really classy!

And as for a romance between Bong goo & JB, I totally agree it would ruin a good thing and have said that from the start! And believe me no one would like to see Sung Joon in a romantic lead more than me, swoon, but don't think it's right for them. I mean he's been in noona romances before, pretty much all of his roles & characters have been with older women, even though he's usually playing an older character himself too, which he pulls off really well, but this is too much (come on, she's 18 years older than him!!) And they have the best relationship/friendship/partnership thing going on, he totally respects & admires & even adores her, & truly enjoys her company, but a romance? No! They are truly the perfect odd couple, so fun to watch, let's just keep it at that. I also think she's like the mother figure he never had & wanted, and he brings out her motherly instincts and someone she can count on & trust. That's just my two cents.

Oh and I love him being the true big brother to NaMi finally, so sweet! I'm just loving everything about his character! I already love everything about Sung Joon, but he's killing it in this role!

But about NaMi, why did she tell JB & BG not to tell anyone, even JH that she's alive or she'll really end up dead, and she's been so frightened, but then she's flaunting herself all over the place and showing up everywhere totally conspicuously, even going to EHs house even chasing HS around, the lady who tried to kill her??? Does she seriously have a death wish or is she really that dumb & naive? I still love her though! Lol

Oh, and is it just me or what, but I'm really tired of both JB & EH wardrobe! I mean come on EH is so rich but she wears the ugliest school marm looking clothes, not you're typical attire if you're trying to seduce someone, and I'm just really sick of seeing JB wearing oversized manly jackets, coats & pants! She's too pretty...

Yes rk, I was talking about their actual ages. Again, I know they are playing different ages, but it's still a stretch. I remember in the 2nd or 3rd episode I think, JB was referring to their ages, calling BG 1987 (which would be 3 years older than he is (26), so like 29-30) inferring he was like a baby, and she called herself 1980? I think, so would put her at like 36, way younger than she actually is (she's 44), but she pulls it off. So yeah, just like to see him with someone his actual age, but I love their relationship!

I don't really see JH as a people pleaser. I see someone who feels ashamed of his life and just goes along with the flow. However, I can see him, as Director, feeling confident naturally. He was confident when he was a singer, but when he could no longer have a singing career, he doesn't appear to have cared what happened in his life.

I have to say, as for me, I like the idea of JB and BG becoming a couple, but I don't think it will happen. I think the love JB may find is her husband---I hope not; the man lies and cheat like it's nothing.
