Chae Soo-bin signs on to be Strongest Deliveryman’s leading lady

Chae Soo-bin is currently busy playing strongman Hong Gil-dong’s lady love in Rebel: Thief Who Stole the People, but she’s already signed on to be Strongest Deliveryman’s leading lady next, which means she’ll go right from one drama set (and one strong man) to the other. That’s nothing but good news to me since she’s a talented young actress with range and natural charm, and I’m glad to know that she’s being offered more leading roles since following Moonlight Drawn By Clouds with Rebel. I kind of even miss the days when she played the teenage hellion mean girl in Sassy Go Go, because she was just that good.

Strongest Deliveryman is KBS’s upcoming human drama from writer Lee Jung-woo of Joseon Gunman and PD Jeon Woo-sung of Heaven’s Promise and Oohlala Spouses. It’s an uplifting story about “dirt spoon” part-timers at the very bottom rung of the job ladder: jajangmyung delivery workers. The hero’s name is Choi Kang-soo (choi kang means “strongest,” hence the title), and the drama is about his life as a jajangmyun delivery boy and his growth and success, which of course includes romance. Yoon Shi-yoon (Mirror of the Witch) was originally courted for the part, but he ended up taking variety hybrid drama The Best Hit, which will precede this drama in KBS’s new Friday-Saturday drama slot.

Chae Soo-bin will play Lee Dana, a jajangmyun delivery girl who dreams of escaping “Hell Joseon,” aka contemporary impossible-to-find-employment Korea. She cares about nothing else except making money, and turns down all courtship advances from men, preferring to walk her own path. She sounds practical and driven, and I like the possibility that the hero would have to try repeatedly to win her over. I’m sad that it won’t be Yoon Shi-yoon, but on the upside, now we get to play the fantasy casting game.

On top of her new drama, Chae Soo-bin has also signed on to star in a KBS drama special called If We Were a Season, described as a fresh and innocent youth melodrama. It comes from a junior PD-writer team from Moonlight Drawn By Clouds—PD Kang Soo-yeon and writer Im Ye-jin—which is why Chae Soo-bin agreed to the role. The more Chae Soo-bin, the better, I say. Now if we could just get her character in Rebel to reunite with her giant manchild husband sometime this year…

Strongest Deliveryman will follow The Best Hit on Fridays and Saturdays beginning in July.

She was so wasted in that drama! I don't even know why they cast her!? Any random actress would have done for that non existent role. Maybe they were afraid of her overshadowing the lead or something but I'm glad she jumped onto Rebel immediately after and now this! Fighting!

I'm glad stars are coming back to drama land faster rather than waiting months or years. I love seeing my fav celebs in numerous productions coz one drama a year is seriously too little! I wish more celebs would take this route. Here's hoping Park Hyung Shik comes back with another drama this year! Maybe this one?

Ohhh...I'ld love her to reunite with Bo Gum one day. Now I'm interested in that last bit, youth melodrama even the name sounds good. TT

I'd actually be into that too - I think they'd look lovely as an OTP. But I hope this drama is good, I don't remember anyone actually liking Oohlala Spouses/the writer's other stuff. (I really, REALLY wish Chae Soo-bin had a look-in at leads in Park Hye-ryun dramas, she'd kill those)

I love her so much! She's been wonderful in Rebel. She just has this lively charm to her that I adore.

I'm so happy that she didn't get stuck in second lead territory and moved quickly to leading roles. Funny thing is I just thought of Kang Ha-neul for her leading man and it almost makes me wish she was cast in that other drama he's up for. But I'm looking forward to both and can't wait to hear more casting news!

She has the potential to be great - I knew it all the way back when she had that cameo on Spy, and Sassy Go Go just confirmed it.

I'm really glad she's out of the second lead holding pen too. Now I just hope they find her a good leading man, though now that you've suggested Kang Ha-neul, it won't get out of my head. Fingers crossed that she has a breakout soon!

But honestly I doubt he wants to be that active as an actor, yet. His passion is always on music. But if we can get to see him another drama tjis year, it will be great!

How about Ji Soo? They can be reunited from their Sassy Go Go days and I can see him in his first lead role? He'll always be a puppy to me though <3

oh my god, this is just a win win situation, Ji soo not being the second lead, and having two great actors in one drama together will just be amazing. Well also we'll get weekly dose of Jisoo!

I'd love that, I was really into their moments in Sassy Go Go and they both killed me. Though I'm not sure if Ji-soo is truly ready for a lead role yet and in many ways Chae Soo-bin's turned out to be the more skilled actor since their time together (greater range in her roles and she's better at some of the technical stuff - not least, sageuk speech).

I do think they'd have great chemistry though!

Actually, I shouldn't even be qualifying that statement - Chae Soo-bin straight up IS the better actor between her and Ji-soo, based on their respective bodies of work. I've yet to see her in a role where she wasn't good.

But I do think they'd have great chemistry in another drama too, even if the Sassy reunion I prioritise is him and Jung Eun-ji.

I agree lol. I've loved Jisoo ever since Angry Mom, and I've enjoyed him in some of his other works but he was straight up boring and bland in SWDBS. I feel like all of his characters are the same hot-tempered boy. Meanwhile Chae Soo Bin managed to be more interesting with what little she had to work with in Moonlight.

I think he's not ready for a lead role either..he should do some high school dramas more and may be with more maturity, the acting excellence would come across on the shows he would be doing. Whenver I see him I remember zo in sung who just looked so naive and innocent in an old drama with go hyung jung. In cases like actors who comes out of their shell like butterflies lol, we have nothing to do but wait.

I love Chae Soo Bin in a meatier role just like in Sassy Go Go and in House of Bluebird and in Rebel, I love her more after the second half & got married. Hopefully this drama will be interesting to watch and I dont mind to see her reunite with any of her co-star in the past.

She really is wonderful so I'm really glad she's getting a leading role. Hopefully she's paired with someone a little closer to her age. I feel like there's been a lot of big age gaps lately.

Kyaa~~ I'm not watching Rebel right now, maybe I will soon but I'm definitely excited to see Soo-bin in this drama! ㅋㅋㅋ This is already one of the dramas I'm looking forward to see without any news about the leads yet so finding out she's gonna be the lead for this one doubles my excitement! I wonder who's gonna play Kang-soo!!!

She was criminaly underutilized in Moonlight! Maybe they were afraid of her overshadowing the lead but so glad she got Rebel instead and now this! Go go!

For such a young actress, she has an extraordinary ability to make more of her roles than they would be on paper, and I really hope she's successful - I'm so glad she moved out of second lead zone, now I just hope she has a bigger breakout hit soon.

Dramaland needs its talented young rookie actresses to actually be given opportunities and not just stuck in second leads forever (though her second lead turn in Sassy Go Go was incredible), and I'm glad it's finally starting to happen for her.

Fingers crossed that they get her a good leading man, now (Chandler suggested Kang Ha-neul, but I'd really be into seeing her and Park Hyung-shik - what happened to her web drama with Im Shi-wan, though?!)). And that this drama is successful and doesn't sideline her.

love her to bits! She was amazing in Bluebird House, but then came Sassy and wow did she blow me away. She really has 'it'. Ability just oozes from her and she is both beautiful and cute. And her smile just lights up the world. I know he is busy now but I really wish I could see her with Lee Sang-Yeob again one day. It's time for him to have a leading role too.

And speaking of needing to have a lead. How about Go Kyung-Pyo for the lead in this...if Typewriter is done by then, he should be about ready.

RISE CHAE SOO BIN! RISE MY BBY!

So glad that she's having one project after another. She's lovable in every way and her SMILE is just captivating! I hoped that she'd be paired up with kim min-jae but I found out that he's already a part of The Best Hit. I haven't seen kim soo hyun in a while so I shall hope that offers would be given to him.

After watching Moonlight Drawn By Clouds and Sassy Go Go, it was pretty clear that she was a young, aspiring actress who could act. Although some of the roles were more important than others, (hint hint- In Moonlight Drawn By Clouds, she wasn't even really needed), I look forward to seeing her in more lead roles.
