Stranger danger and high kicks on the set of Suspicious Partner
We have two new sets of stills for SBS’s new rom-com Suspicious Partner: the first promotional, and the other from first day shoots. Early in the morning on April 12, the main actors were out campaigning for their drama, literally. Ji Chang-wook (The K2), Nam Ji-hyun (Shopping King Louis), Choi Tae-joon (Missing 9), and Hello Venus idol Nara were personally asking for the people’s support in Yeouido, right smack in front of the Korean National Assembly.
With a bit of promotional flair, they decked out a pink campaign bus and booth covered in banners for their drama. The campaign slogans read “It’s Suspicious!” “Amazingly suspicious and insanely lovely!” and (the very on-point) “Your viewership affects the drama!” Ji Chang-wook told the crowd, “On May 10, 2017, the history of dramas in the Republic of Korea will be forever changed when new drama Suspicious Partner airs.”
Then they broke out in song and dance, La La Land style. It looks like the production team is drawing a cue from the real-life presidential elections happening in South Korea right now and turning it into promotional material for their drama. Way to be topical, Suspicious Partner.
In the drama, which is set in the world of prosecutors and the judiciary system, Ji Chang-wook plays untouchable, smart, and sexy prosecutor, Noh Gi-wook. Nam Ji-hyun plays Eun Bong-hee, an energetic Judicial Research and Training Institute trainee who is more than capable of defending herself as a former Korean Taekwondo representative. The two both experience a mysterious incident, and end up falling in love.
The second set of stills features a creepy man approaching Nam Ji-hyun, whose character is exercising in the park when a man in a raincoat (played by Park Sung-geun) suddenly approaches her. He starts taking off his clothing one article at a time and creepily says, “Is this the first time you’ve seen something like this?” She is startled at first, but then busts out her elite Taekwondo skills and yells, “Get out of here, you pervert!” This woman needs no rescuing.
Both sets of stills are good representations of the fun and eerie vibe that writer Kwon Ki-young (I Remember You, All About My Romance, and Protect the Boss) is so good at portraying. I’m still trying to figure out how she got me to cover my eyes in fright, laugh hysterically, and love a serial killer in I Remember You. Her writing, paired with the directing of PD Park Sun-ho (assistant director on Legend of the Blue Sea and Jackpot), has the potential to turn out a gorgeous drama filled with unexpected twists and turns along the way. Sign me up!
Suspicious Partner will begin airing on May 10, following Saimdang, Light’s Diary.
