Sung Joon up to headline new pre-produced rom-com Mojito

Sung Joon is currently busy romancing Go So-young on Monday-Tuesday drama Perfect Wife, but he’s already considering an offer for his next drama, a pre-produced series called Mojito. The new project will be a 16-episode romantic comedy about a man who doesn’t like nighttime, which for some reason prompts him to open a daytime bar. Maybe he feels left out that other people are drinking at night without him?

Sung Joon is considering the leading role, an heir with a negative balance in his bank account who becomes anxious at nightfall. He opens up a bar specifically for daytime drinking… which seems like a bad business model to me. But this probably explains the state of his finances. There he’ll meet the heroine who has lived with insufficient funds her entire life, and together they’ll heal each other’s wounds and fall in love. It’s described as a lively, refreshing rom-com.

It sounds like it could be a good low-key romance, though I can’t shake the thought that it sounds a lot like Warm and Cozy, with the rich-but-cash-poor hero who sometimes opened his restaurant when he felt like it, and pretty much played hooky on most days. But really, all Sung Joon has to do to be better than that guy is not emotionally manipulate the heroine to make another girl jealous, so I’m pretty sure he’s already got a leg up there. The plot doesn’t seem particularly exciting, but perhaps a great romantic pairing and an afternoon cocktail will change my mind.

Casting is in progress for the leading lady, and Mojito doesn’t have a broadcaster attached, but is hoping to air sometime this summer.

LOL, are you me? I was literally JUST gonna ask the same question: how is he in Perfect Wife?

I watched 30 minutes of the first episode his acting was better than his other roles (except the hair which is his worst hairstyle) I can't believe I liked him in the few scenes I've watched him in, maybe the character was outgoing, although am not a fan of his acting I've never liked a character of him before.

I liked his character on I Need Romance 3. Except he was wasted falling for a woman who doesn't seem to really care for him. She pretty much came to him bec she got used to him being around.

Maybe his character and AMH of SWDBS should start a club. :)

Sung Joon is better there. Your good impression won't be spoiled.

I think as long as he plays some dorky roles, not some serious roles, I will be fine with him. Most importantly he needs a good partner who can easily have chemistry with him.

I like him in Perfect Wife, but to be honest, I still think it will all depend on writing/his role in this one.

lol. It's a shame because I really liked Warm and Cozy, but then it dragged for me and I just gave up on it all together. It had a really good plot just a not-so-great execution imo.

With Sung Joon, its either a total hit or total miss. I hope this one delivers. And a good leading lady is a must.

There are times that I liked Sung Joon a lot(like in I Need Romance 3)and there are times when I dont(say like High Society, Madam Antoinette). I would say Sung Joon, he doesnt seem to fit to every roles he played, like there are roles he should be able to play with, and there are not. I just wish him the best, because he doesnt seem to have a wider range of acting skills to me, but I could've been proven wrong. ?

To be honest, in High Society he was totally out-played by Park Hyung-sik's hair. I wouldn't blame Sung Joon for it. There was nothing he could've done.

I just dropped High Society after cannot bear with his acting any longer although I started for Uee and him lol. Also unlike many others, the second pair in this this drama annoyed me with their childishness. So I just stopped watching altogether.

Watched 3 episodes of SUFBB before dropping it...Tried watching Gu Family Book, dropped after 8 episodes but I blame Suzy on this one...then come High Society, the only drama I watched to the end not for him but for second lead's sake (Hyungsik being the only saving grace of this drama)
I finally came to the conclusion that Sung Joon and me were not meant to be.

As long as he plays role like the one in Perfect Wife, it will be good I believe. His roles in High Society as well Madam Antoinette are really a miss for me. He works well with noona, but as long as the leading lady is better actress who can do romcom very well and can easily have a chemistry with anyone, maybe this will work.

What is Mojito anyway? Probably name of the bar?

I think Mojito is the name of a drink though I'm not sure.

I also enjoyed Sung Joon a lot in CWGM. You're right, as long as the role is a dorky and unserious one, he'll do great.
I'm loving him in Perfect Wife, pair him with a (a strong character)noona.

Yup! It's the name of a cocktail classically made with lime, mint leaves and rum. It's very pretty actually. It's usually described as a perfectly refreshing summer cocktail.

And.... here is a recipe just in case you all wanted to try ???

(And no I'm not an alcoholic I swear!)

(And please Beanies, never drink and drive!)

@Michykdrama LMAO!!!

Thanks for the link! I've always been interested in drinks, though I'm not very fond of alcohol myself–too bitter and stinky (or maybe I've been drinking the cheap ones? Ans: Yes I have).

But with lots of sugar, low concentration and pretty colours, I could take a drink or three, heh!

If you don't prefer alcohol, you could always try Virgin Mojito. Simply replace the alcoholic beverage with an aerated drink like Sprite and add some mind leave and crushed ice! It's plenty refreshing and a sure way to beat the heat.
Dramas be reminding us of Mocktails long forgotten! ?

Oh yes he was great in CWGM too. I I love him with noona more, but actress in his age will do great as well. If only Han Groo is not taking a break this year, I can see them together. Kim Seul Gi has another drama already, if not I probably will love to see her in leading role.

He was more awesome on white Christmas. Sadly it takes a great character to make an actor shine more, none of his recent roles have been that much impressive. Think he would do great in prison break kind of roles.

SUFBB is one my favourite dramas and I thought he was good in it, but tbh nothing he's been in since has really interested me..

I can't quite picture him pulling off the comedy bit of rom-coms either, but I'd love to see him prove me wrong.

If it's a daytime bar in a trendy/young area like Hongdae, it's not a bad business model. My friends and I were very fond of midday margaritas there haha.

Sung-joon is so hit-or-miss, though. Hopefully they get a decent girl to play the heroine.

I really liked him in Shut up flower boy band. His acting in that got me right in the feels. It just seems though, that apart from I need love, he seems to just pick the wrong roles - either that, or he doesn't have the skills to be able to play an assy hero who redeems himself by the end of the drama. That could be the writing but they're starting to add up.

I'm imagining a drama where his bar is not really a neighborhood hit because Sung Joon, as the bartender, just can't quite get a handle on how to mix drinks.

I want to love him in roles so much, but I've always felt his chemistry with female leads was always lacking. Who knows, though. The description of the drama seems like something right up in my alley, though, so fingers crossed!

If the hero doesn`t like nighttime there is a simple solution: use the time to sleep.

Madame Antoine really disappointed me, but he is attractive, knows how to wear a suit, and has a nice voice. (What can I say? I'm superficial that way.) I'll probably give this a chance and hope for the best.

That said, I really hope for an awesome leading lady because the plot doesn't sound that interesting.

I'm anticipating this, despite my love for him cooling a bit. He was just so promising in SUFBB, White Christmas and Can We Get Married. And now I'm liking him again in Perfect Wife, even though I've put that show on hold. Hopefully they get a good pairing for him this time and the writing holds up.

OMG I just LOVE LOVE LOVE Sung Joon, but he gets paired with leads that I never like. I really wish he could do a drama with Han Groo (she was in Can we get married as he's female best friend) they had such great chemistry.

Pfffft this little character tidbit had me laughing out loud. He's either going to have no business or be bothered by major alcoholics. Seems just dorky enough for me to be interested. Hope it's good

"-described as a lively, refreshing rom-com."

I don't know about you but anything that concerns even a hint of a negative account and looming bills never gets me anywhere to close to feeling refreshed. I do wish this drama all the best though, maybe it can cure my no-money-phobia.

He is a great actor if given good roles. He just picks crappy dramas to be in. His crying scenes are so seriously on point (when he was losing it at the end of Madame Antoine, that was like award winning acting in my book). And I agree with everyone else, he does do really well with slightly dorky roles.
