Lee Jun-ki’s tense gun standoff in first stills for Criminal Minds

Korea’s remake of Criminal Minds has released fresh-off-the-press stills of Lee Jun-ki (Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo), and it’s giving me those action-thriller Two Weeks vibes all over again. Now I can’t wait to see Lee Jun-ki kicking ass onscreen soon.

This upcoming drama is based on a popular long-running American CBS crime procedural by the same name. The source material features a FBI team of highly trained behavioral profilers who track down criminals that no one else can seem to catch. Production company Taewon Entertainment is taking the lead on this project, and CEO Jung Tae-won posted the featured stills on his social media account to show us how well filming was progressing.

I’m so excited for this actor lineup, although details about which characters they’ll be reprising have not been made clear. Sohn Hyun-joo (Three Days) is shown in the picture below, peering at a crime scene along with Lee Jun-ki. We also have some strong female characters on the cast, including Moon Chae-won (Goodbye Mr. Black), Lee Sun-bin (Missing 9, Police Unit 38), and Yoo Sun (Our Gap-soon), so fingers crossed that it’ll be amazing.

Pre-production for Criminal Minds has already begun, and it is slated for broadcast on tvN this July.

Same here. Guns are boring/overdone (or at least they are here in the US...) and I was never a fan of the show, but LJK so totally.

Criminal Minds is about serial killers and mysterious murder's cases.

It's impossible to not include guns when the main characters have to deal with criminals. Criminals have guns.

Sure, but in TV they're often used as a boring narrative shortcut. One thing I appreciate about KDramas is that every confrontation isn't a cheesy gun ballet.

You know he really looks different here. A lot of times in the period outfits and even on his own instagram he has this very "elfish" look that makes him very etherial. But for this, it looks like he put on maaaaaybe 5 pounds and is not trying to look thin and waifish and suddenly he looks extra manly. I suspect this is all just how his makeup and contouring is done but it's very interesting he can present such radically different facades!

I think he said the lost extra wait especially for Scarlet Heart, to match the rest of the young cast (which probably goes for his makeup, costumes, etc. too). It's awesome that his so versatile :)

I remember something about him losing the weight because the director wanted him to have a severe face line. I remember it because it was odd, but watching the show, it was very noticeable. Then, folks were distressed that he had lost the weight!

Ah,please let this be good as the cast is amazing!!!Really want soo much for LJK to have a hit drama,he totally deserves it!!!

I'm gonna take this drama as it's own and even if it's promoted as a remake of the awesome Criminal Minds i must say i will wath it as it's own rather than making comparitions as character wise...I have that guess they will take the main core of the original and mold it on korean standards...

Hi, EMZ!

I do not think that you should have to watch the whole show, as god knows how many seasons it's been since it premiered. You might want to check out some episodes from the first couple of seasons just to look at the characterizations, relationship dynamics, and the structure of the show. I only think I saw the first few seasons. There were a number of cast changes.

Is it just me or does the guy from scarlet heart (I am soooo sorry I cant remember his name...) But dosn't he seem a little older? WEll when I say little I mean like he personally looks like he has aged 7-10 years in my view ^^:; Maybe in the actual drama he wil look younger and maybe in the other stills that will come out XD

It could be the just the images or he's portraying a more mature character compared to his previous drama. Lee Jun Ki's 35 years old in real life. Different styling and makeup can make someone look more mature or younger. Someones appearance can also be affected if they don't get enough rest or under a lot of stress. I heard the cast and crew had to pull some all-nighters.

In MLSHR, his character Wang So was approx 18yo from ep 1 then 25yo when he became King. Then the last epi he would have been on late 20's or early 30s.

In CM, his role is an experienced agent so the age of his character must be between 35-38yo.

Thanks, tineybeanie! I'm getting TWO WEEKS and TIME BETWEEN DOG AND WOLF vibes from that first photo. Nice.

It will be interesting to see how the Korean adaptation of CRIMINAL MINDS turns out. I think I watched the entire American series, but not while it was running. After profiling heinous criminals week in and week out for years, it got to me. (But that was in addition to watching various editions of CSI, BONES, ELEMENTARY, CASTLE, NCIS, and the original Swedish WALLANDER, so I can't really put all the blame on CRIMINAL MINDS, now can I?) I'm hoping to be spared a serial killer a la VOICE. One was more than enough, thank you. Maybe we'll get to see more of a character study of the team and how they tick as individuals, which is fine by me.

I loved the photo of him - look at those gorgeous eyes! I'm glad he's looking a little more his age in this one. I loved Criminal Minds so I'm not sure I'll be watching the show all through if they follow it too closely, but I will definitely check in to see LJK!

LJG is indeed looking good. I'm so glad he's lost the "lean and hungry look" that I found distressing in MOON LOVERS. Here he is a bit more filled out yet still trim. And yes -- the eyes have it. In spades.

Hmm. I was surprised to see that the American series is still running. It's up to season 12 or 13. So maybe I saw the first 8 or 9. It was in syndication by then, and there have to be 100 episodes in the can for that to happen, IIRC. Like Mandy Patinkin, the darkness got to me after a while.

It wasn't just CM, either. Various US forensics shows started dealing in depravity that Sherlock Holmes and Miss Marple never encountered. Or shows got long in the tooth when they should have packed it in while they were still at the top of their game. And -- I started watching Kdramas in 2013 and got hooked on sageuks, and later started checking out my favorite actors in contemporary dramas.

I'm interested to see the Korean take on the show. I don't think it will be all gunfights, either. I'm anticipating a goodly amount of martial arts minus hanbok and sword from a certain magistrate. ;-)

A bit depressing, but the original is great and every episode is enjoyable, even though it can get repetitive- I mean how diverse are serial killers. It's intelligent and philosophical, so I hope they know what they're doing. You do have to be in the mood for it.
The cast is top notch so I'm very much excited to finally see a glimpse.

I'm very happy with the casting of Sohn Hyun-joo. Jason Gideon's character was one of my favorite from Season 1. I was disappointed when Mandy Patinkin left the show.
Beside Criminal Minds who could ever forget Inigo Montoya and his famous line from Princess Bride "You killed my father. Prepare to die."

I second you on Sohn Hyun-joo. He made an impression on me as Andrea's uncle in LOVE LETTER. Other than that, I've seen him in a couple of drama specials some months back: SPECIAL CRIME SQUAD MSS and TRUE STEEL, both with Oh Man-seok.

After reading the following interview with Mandy Patinkin, I can understand why he had to leave CRIMINAL MINDS.

http://www.nytimes.com/2013/08/25/magazine/mandy-patinkin-i-behaved-abominably.html

His Inigo Montoya is truly memorable. I loved his turn as chief reaper Rube in DEAD LIKE ME. ;-)

@PakalanaPikake
Thank you for the article :). I guess he had a good reason for leaving.
I haven't seen DEAD LIKE ME but since you mentioned it I will check it out.

I love Sohn Hyun-joo both in dramas and in films. Favorite drama: "The Chaser" with Kim Sang-joong.
I haven't seen much of his earlier work but he seems to be busier now than ever.
Oh man-seok is so underrated. I hope he'd do more full sageuk. He is one of my favorite 40s.

Is this show going to be seasonal (like the US version) or will it follow the traditional K-drama standard of a set amount of episodes?

Required fields are marked *

This has a set number of episodes. I'm sure everything depends on the ratings, but I thought at one time they wanted a concept where they could switch actors in and out of the same franchise. Pretty much that's what has happened on the US version to a certain extent. It will depend on quality, timing and luck I'm sure.

I've been wanting to see Moon Chae-won in another great drama for a long time since I wasn't a fan of her previous two. Goodbye Mr. Black was terrible due to writing, and Good Doctor had serious ethical issues with the romance.

She's such a great actor that I really want to see her shine in another great drama that doesn't involve either poor writing or an icky romance. It's been a while since Lee Jun-ki has been in a modern setting too, so that's another big positive. I loved Two Weeks. I certainly would welcome a romance between the two. I'd actually feel it was a missed opportunity if there wasn't one.

My most anticipated drama at the moment. I hope it delivers.

I'm a huge fan of Criminal Minds like it's one of the two shows from US that I am following. But is it really just a remake not a fresh Korean unit? I mean, it wouldn't be bad to have the cross over of the original Criminal Minds cast plus the Criminal Minds Beyond Border casts (so that I can see Daniel Henney again in Korean scene) and the Korean casts?
