[Survey] Answer questions, win 100 Beanie points

You’ve probably heard us mention a few times now that along with the new site redesign, we’re looking for ways to grow and add new features to the site, like a store where we can sell Beanie merchandise, among other things. But before we launch ourselves headlong into new endeavors and partnerships, we wanted to ask all of you for your help in giving us some feedback on your drama-watching, drama-reading, and drama-spending habits.

So we’re asking our readers to take the short 5-7 minute survey below (or via this link), to share a little bit about your drama addiction and its accompanying side effects. To show our appreciation for taking the survey, we’re awarding an extra 100 bonus Beanie points to each and every person who participates.

(Beanie points, in a nutshell: Registered users gain points for various activities, such as writing comments, posting on your fan walls, and following and being followed by others. Earn points, level up! For those of you keeping track, 100 points is the difference between starting out as a Candy or a Jang Geu-rae.)

  • The survey will be open for two weeks until Monday, June 5.
  • If you want to claim your 100 Beanie points, please make sure to fill in the email address associated with your Dramabeans account in the last question.
  • The survey is open to anyone, regardless of whether or not you have a registered account on Dramabeans.

Thanks, Beanies!

There should have been a question about food, since watching kdramas made me go to our nearest Kosco and buy Korean foods. HEH. Made me look out and try some recipes out there too! :)

The recap question stumped me because I really wasn't sure how to respond. I am a hardcore lurker y'all. You wouldn't know it by my participation level but dramabeans is my 2nd most visited site (my preferred drama watching site being number 1, natch) on my pc, tablet, phone, and the most visited site on my work computer. After all of that work stuff) but how I read recaps depends. There are shows that I watch (mostly old shows) and never think about the recaps then there are shows that I *need* another opinion on immediately, and I pause where I'm at and go find the recap and read the comments.

And then there are shows that I'm not really thinking about the recaps one way or another and something will happen that will just...flummox me and I'm sitting there wondering why and how and what? And is this a cultural difference thing? And I seek out recaps specifically for commentary so that I can better understand something,

AND THEN there are recaps that I read because the screenshot was hilarious and the blurb was funny and I have no desire to watch the show but admire the writing of the recapper.

And then there are recaps that I refresh my screen 70million times not necessarily because I want to read the recap (which I will, but maybe not first) but I need to know what someone else thought about this moment and I'll skip to the commentary and then read the comments and after calming down a bit I may or may not go to the recap. Those moments mostly make me wish that there was a chat room or open discussion board through out the week so that we don't have to wait for a recap to discuss. Although, that could already be a thing and I just don't know about it.

I am also a lurker. I am at peace with this now after the mighty struggle to try to be more active. But hey, I just appreciate this community so much. Even if I don't participate very often...
I miss the Beans of Wisdom as well. That was one of my favorite things on the old site. I've learned so much here.... and all of it is useful!!

Hello dramabeans staff, I love your site so much that i visit it minimum 5 times a day...even though I'm not a commenter but an avid reader of your site I wanted to do the survey and contribute...however at the forth question i was really really disappointed...what do you mean by Black????????....You state East Asian, South Asian, Indian Pacific, Islander, Black, Afro-Caribbean, or African American, Hispanic/Latino White/Caucasian, Middle Eastern, American Indian/Native American...where is African?????I'm an ethiopian girl leaving in Italy and i have lots of friends from many countries in africa (which by the way is huge and diversified). We identify ourself by our country's name or by simply the term African. I would like it if you could revise it....

I want to clarify that im not saying that the term black is derogatory ....I'm am black, but for as african in general if you ask as what we are we will respond that we are Ethiopian, Nigerian, Ghanian, Mroccan etc..or simply African.

This was great! By the way, talking about extras and improving the site ... it would awesome to add an extra layer to the "favorite" button on the drama's header ... what if I watched it but it's really not my favorite? Just a suggestion. Great design overall! ♥

If i could have i would have...unfortunately education is so expensive that I never had money to spend on Korean drama and kpop merchandise...same with travelling. Would love to go to Korea some day but being broke, I'll be content with just being able to drive to the park...

Been to KoreA twice and it's not only because of K-drama and K-pop that i keep on coming back and want to come back it's because of the country itself. The places and the traditions especially the foods.. The best Olive chicken is in South Korea and any chicken is really yummy....Hotteok in Busan is tasty... There's still some places that I want to see and me and my friends already planned to come back to Korea in 2020 :D

Nice survey. I would love to see the results.

Just answered the survey, and I realized I must be part of the minority who doesn't spend anything on merchandises, and hasn't attended any concerts or events related to Korea or Korean pop culture. I just enjoy watching the dramas and virtually speaking with a lot of viewers about their thoughts on the programs. But, that's about it.

Are we a minority? A lot of the Korean lovers I know are like me and you tho... Maybe it has to do with Africa not being a target continent so lack of opportunities to do so...
But Yh
We aren't a minority are we?

I am interested in the meaning behind the color question. Also, for some questions, I wish there was a "Not yet, but in the certain future," option. ;)

Thanks to dramas and kpop I'm finally off to Korea this summer!! I'm so excited!! Is there anywhere as a diehard drama fan I absolutely must go?
Also I would love Dramabeans merch, it's such a great idea. (A dramabeans t shirt would literally be goals)

Done! Sorry it took me some so long. I tried to do it the day it came out, but on my phone it would not pull up the pictures that are at the end. Disclaimer: I probably spend way more than I should on K-beauty (skincare) products! :)

I wanted to give a split answer to some of the questions which the survey wouldn't allow. For example for currently airing series I like to watch within a couple of days of them airing, but marathon older series from before I became a kdrama addict. And as for the relationship between recaps and watching habits, I'll watch first and then read the recap for current series, but maybe only read the recaps for older series.

for the recap question... I actually read recaps when I cannot access the episodes (i.e. at work, on the train so that I won't drain my data, etc etc) or when I am interested in what's going to happen next but not interested enough to invest my time watching it. Or when it's a horror genre and I'm too scared to watch it.

So here's my question, are there plans to add like a Goodreads-style organizing option to our Beanie pages? I would love to be able to show what I'm currently watching, the dramas I've completed, to-watch dramas, dramas I gave up on etc. Right now I'm only favoriting completed and currently-watching dramas but I would love to be able to do more..,

Done! You should add another question: Are you planning to visit South Korea as a result of your addiction to Kdramas, in the near future? I would have answered YES! One of my biggest dreams is to sit inside one of those orange tents and drink soju.. although I haven't seen those orange tents in dramas lately.

I always find it difficult to complete surveys as I used to work in market research! I'm going 'why is that a single it should be a multi response' and so on. But anything for Dramabeans.

Finding long forgotten comments of mine through the recent account feature felt like entering a time portal. I used to write a lot back then.
I too had fun answering the survey but no extra 100 beanie points added, so far. Is it normal?
