Assembling our profiler team in extended teaser for Criminal Minds

We’re almost at the finish line, hurrah! tvN’s upcoming Criminal Minds is set to premiere in less than a week, and they’ve released a highlight teaser that gives us an extended look into the crime thriller.

The teaser starts with a relevant but terrifying quote from poet W. H. Auden: “Evil is unspectacular and always human, and shares our bed and eats at our own table.” Sohn Hyun-joo (Three Days) says that their job is to look for monsters who have lost their humanity, as we see flashes of those same monsters with their victims. Moon Chae-won (Goodbye Mr. Black) and Lee Sun-bin (Missing 9) report to Kim Young-chul (Father Is Strange), the director of the NCI profiling branch, who muses whether team leader Kang (Sohn Hyun-joo’s character) could have handled a case better.

Team Leader Kang, however, is haunted by traumatic memories of a profile gone wrong, which resulted in multiple deaths. This incident is also why Lee Jun-ki (Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo) is scornful of criminal profiling, and is more of a fists-first kind of guy. I really liked it when a certain case became a personally significant one for the BAU agents in the U.S. show, as it allowed for some welcome character development, and it looks like NCI agent Moon Chae-won also has her own demons regarding an old case.

I also really appreciated the light, comedic moments between our profiler team members, and I’m super happy to see that Yoo Sun (Our Gap-soon) is going for Penelope’s quirky clothing style and very vocal appreciation of Lee Jun-ki’s looks, lol. I can’t wait until their characters hit it off like Garcia and Morgan. Also, I totally giggled at Go Yoon’s (Monster) very Spencer-like interruption to correct Nana’s ramblings with useless, unwanted scientific trivia.

Oh wow, so I guess they’re also going to transplant certain villains from the original series, and they certainly chose a memorable one if they’re going to recreate the Reaper. Now that explains Park Geun-hyung’s (Because I Love You) character, of which there were some conflicting reports early on. If I remember the American series correctly, he’ll play a retired detective who worked with Team Leader Kang on the Reaper case. Man, I got chills seeing the Reaper with Kang’s son; this show hasn’t even started yet, and it’s already stressing me out. And then I got chills for another reason entirely when Team Leader Kang references the Talmud quote, “When we save a life, we save the entire world.” Eugh, Sohn Hyun-joo does gravitas so well.

Just by looking at this trailer, tvN is definitely going for an epic, grand-scale action thriller, and I’m really hoping it doesn’t fall flat once it starts airing. There’s so much good source material to be mined (12 seasons of it, in fact) that I want them to succeed and be able to carry on for multiple seasons as they originally planned. I’m also quite excited to see the various guest appearances in the individual cases, and it was fun to spot familiar faces here and there in the teaser.

Criminal Minds is gearing up to premiere on July 26 in tvN’s new Wednesday-Thursday slot. Is it morbid that I can’t wait for a show about murders and serial killers?

From the get go I think there was the thought of having this be multi-season, but I would think it would be doubtful to get all of the same actors back if it actually does get the ratings. However, the US show mixed and matched actors regularly and it worked because it is a procedural type show. I don't mind multiple seasons, but I find with US shows I'm waiting until they complete their run before watching on Hulu or Netflix if they are not procedurals. Oh, and Once Upon A Time ...that just went sideways awfully quick. Loved the first season though.

Yep I agree with you. I have never seen Criminal Minds but I was hoping that they would put in Kdrama twist and make it only one season but not sure if I will be watching either even if for Lee Jun Ki. It sounds like an exact same copy if they are going for even same looks and everything. I am curious to go back and watch Criminal Minds though to see what the original show was like.

Yoo Sun is dressed like most chaebol's wives in other kdramas.

Excited for this though. I really liked the US version so if they can recreate that same feeling in this then I am all onboard. Plus, the cast looks magnificent.

Yeah, her outfit was more high end fashion (the weird stuff) than oddly quirky. The only thing that made it truly different was the color. But, it's kinda hard to judge based on one look.

This looks so good!! *squeals in excitement*

I love that after that extremely tense trailer that had me gripping my coffee like no tomorrow, the freaking TVN jingle plays. Bit of a tonal whiplash ... ,?

It's been so long since I dropped the US show, I was trying to guess the episode and got dizzy. I'll just sit back and enjoy.

The first 5.5 seasons of CM were near perfection, so I hope they stick to that. The characters look good without being 1:1 with the og, I'm so ready.

Does anyone know who picked this up? I haven't checked today but didn't see that Dramafever or Viki had picked it up.

Hoping that one or the other pick it up. I'm pretty (actually massively) annoyed that DF and Viki don't have it...I read on DB that another service (Kacowa?) is where dramas will be routed to? Which, at present, isn't available thru Roku. Surely DF & Viki won't put up with this as this will be the end of them...don't subscribe so I can watch old dramas and movies. Even IF I don't get a virus by going outside Roku, I'd still have to watch on my laptop...nope, that is garbage.

Finally Kim Young-chul <3.

It's going to be hard to see anyone else playing Garcia and Reid beside Vangsness and Matt Gubler.
Love their brains and they also made me laugh.

Song Hyun-moon is definitely a combination of Hotch (with a son and dealing witn the Reaper) and of Gideon (with the bombing case that traumatized Gideon). It seems some of the cases are direct from the original; I recognize the girl getting kidnapped in the car, just like in the U.S. version. Yeah you can't go wrong with the Reaper. He was one of the worst and was a threat for a long time. Looking forward to this. Of course I look forward to anything that gives me more Lee Jun-ki. He's like a drug and I'm hooked.

I think it'll be pretty cool to have big name actors cameo as villains for each story arc.

I want this to be good, and I wanna watch Lee Jun Ki in a modern thriller.
Idk how to explain it... some of the similarities between the US show and this seem to put me off, kinda like they're forced in there, copy and paste rather than being natural? Hmmm I hope they can make it it's own thing and I'll probably still follow it. Or try to... given how many other things I've to watch haha

Required fields are marked *

Probably not as well as you'd like tbh :/
It just felt like Penelope and Reid's counter parts were trying to be TOO much like them and some of the dialogue seemed jerky. But it's just a trailer so it's probably too soon to tell.

The Boston Reaper was definitely one of the greatest villains of CM and I am so freaking pumped to see a new take on him.

The teaser looks sooooo action-packed! Almost too much? Still excited though, haha. They're really pushing out all the promos now.
I hope the writing is good and they still give us some twists.

I've watched CM before, but don't remember any of the major villains. That's a good thing to me. I wanna be surprised. I do hope tvN has their own, original villains and stories to tell too.

I hope there is plenty of both action and profiling! What's wrong with action?!?! It's a crime thriller, so action is part of it for sure!!

Please be good. There are too many crime genre dramas out there and I hope this one would stand out for all the right reasons. My Lee Jun Ki does not have excellent track record when come to selecting good projects but I have confidence with the mentioning of Sohn Hyun Joo as a fellow co-star.

And finally, allow me to gush on how hot and gorgeous LJK is in that uniform ?.

Rather than swollen, it's her gaining some weight and her cheeks has always been chubby. Nothing wrong with it. The girl loves to eat and that's totally fine. We already have enough skinny female celebrities. And don't know if having healthy body weight can consider as look sickly?

Good luck show! Seems like Im Soo Hyang will have a cameo based on the pic above? Finally can see Kim Young Chul, I'm getting exhausted with his character in FIS ( I swear it is not him that I'm getting tired with because he is fantastic as usual lol). I want appa to smile again, finally to let go with everything and be happy. Anyway, excited to see him in this drama and the other casts esp Sohn Hyun Joo, Lee Jun Ki and Moon Chae Won.

@tipsymocha Well if it is morbid, atleast you're not alone. I can't wait for this show to start. The teaser gives me all the right chills.

I hope it's going to be a good remake like "The Good Wife", where you can see the original show in it, while it also brings its own feel to it. It makes it seem like its own show instead of just a copy.

I don't think words can capture how excited I am for this show oh my goodness. That teaser did not hold back and I'm so glad it was a long one as opposed to the little short snippets we usually get.

The tone of the show looks like it will be right on par with the American series and I am so happy about that. I got chills seeing that they'll be utilizing the reaper and other villainess themes from the original.

I can't wait for this.
