Aren't we all, aren't we all... ( . 3 .) But i'd agree, I think they're one of my all time favourite couples, period. Plus, I do like how their relationship has such deep roots and so they aren't holding back from each other, emotionally or otherwise. Open and honest~

What are your thoughts on Seul hee/Joo man?

SH & JM while not in my favorite couple league (where AR & DM are sitting pretty) they get solid realism points. ??

2

Nah. Seol-hee and Joo-man may be Dong Ra's sunbaes when it comes to dating but they can learn a thing or two when it comes to understanding each other from Ae Man lol, especially Joo-man, he had six years and still didn't know his lover's simple needs from him.

That reminds me, at which point did Joo-man appear in the triplet's lives? I've never seen him in any of the childhood flash backs.

3

This a reply to Martin above:

Joo Man is Dong Man's high school buddy, in first episode these 2 dummies are caught watching wrestling game (or something to do with it) in class.

2

@Martin J Simwaba
Ae-Ra and Dong-Man are 20-year-old friends while Seoul Hee and Joo man don't have that half that time together. It's not the same comparison.

3

I love how honest they are! It's so cute when she pouts at him when he's honest. "Why are you so frank?!"

I love their choice of project so far. I wonder at first why Song jong Ki didn't had any acting project except battleship island after DOTS. turn out he is busy dating SHK lol

I don't even follow them much, and I am irrationally happy for them. It seems like it has been rather obvious for some time that there was something going on. Very, very happy for them (and hoping good things for other unconfirmed couples out there as well...*cough* Jongjoo *cough* --although always of course respecting privacy and wanting them to be able to say what they want to when they want to).

Hi how are you doing?

I have been having a Bong Hee day today cause I do realize people stare at my hair yet I will have no time to wash it before I get to Viljandi, I just have to run these errands first and I was too tired to get up ven earlier to wash it. I wish someone would be kind enough to tell me I am dirty, but pretty. but no, they just give me this STARE.
My poor hair. What has it ever done to them?

Cultural exchange coninues in the museum, our workshops are such fun. Yesterday I met this elderly japanese gentleman with his lady, who looked at the fish we were cutting out of paper and pulled out a bag full of origami, teaching us to make tiny beaked "kappas" out of scrap paper. if you know my instagram, there are some pictures there. He made them out of bus tickets and receits that had kanji on them. then he started going and forgot his notebook, came back upstairs (4 flights), got his notebook and forgot his pen, came back and forgot his hat. Poor guy went up and down the stairs of Fat Margaret tower 4 times in total. I guess he was having his own Bong Hee-moment. for clarification, he didn´t forget any rouge.

I have been trying to watch this and that but I have fallen asleep every time. the weather is so chilly and gray that I feel like hibernating. The temperature hasn´t been over 20C more that twice, all around 3 days. what kind of a summer is this? Suspicious Partner - I am not as mad at the show as some others, I think the conversations are important, but it has definitely become slower - but if that twist about the real amnesia had hit us at full speed, would we even be alive? I do hope the finale will bring us something squee-worthy though.

Rewatched Arang and the Magistrate cause Criminal Minds cannot get here soon enough. I think the original has run on ETV, but I didn´t see it, cause I have no TV. Do you think it is better that I haven´t?

also, no one still hasn´t noticed? hmm... well you see, *mumbling* haveidhiis higiiie. hadaihaadihaiki higauk.* so there. you understood that, right? don´t pressure me, that is the most I am willing to say.

Ditto! Although I have yet to learn how to tie scarves...I tried it once and it really didn't suit me so I usually stick with beanies or those motorcyclists-handkerchiefs-thingies (no idea how to call those!)
I had super short hair yeaaaars ago, but my big ears bothered me so much it was a one time thing only; however, now that I think I'm too old for insecurities, I find it quite refreshing! I'm sure I'm gonna keep a short style once I finish this thing!

Hi Beanies !

I came back last Sunday from my one month summer classes in Berlin and I loved it ! The city is really unique and there's not a single boring day. I think I fell in love with the night life (even though I'm a homebody !) A night without Berliner Weiss Bier (Rot) is unbelievable ><
For my next 2 semesters, I chose Düsseldorf and I'm excited to see the difference :D
Dean had a concert when I was there but his ticket were sold out when I found out about it BUT I will be there for G-Dragon's concert in September *dying*
What I really missed were my dramas, dramabeans and its new features because I was too busy. So this week I caught up to dramas that are completed or quite new :

Chicago Typewriter : WOW the two last episodes were intense ! The ending couldn't have been more suitable. The production team, the screenwriter and the actors did an awesome job to provide us such a poignant and heartbreaking story. I will never forget the emotions it made feel. Thank you, Chicago Typewriter !

Man to Man : Well... I can't praise this show like CT but one good thing it sure did was giving us Woon Gwang Oppa <3 Count me in his fanclub along with Do Ha.

Father is Strange : The aaangst AARRRGGGGGHH... Actor Ahn finally has doubt and I'm ready for the truth to be revealed. The whole family will be a mess !! Mother-in-law in the hospital made me feel bad for her. Her husband ignores her and doesn't understand her pain as a woman ! At least Hey Young and Jung Hwan are there. Joon Young passed the bar I never thought it would happen ! Yu Ju should care more for her baby... I understand her for not wanting to lose her job but her health and her baby are more important. She makes people at work and her husband worry. Her mother reappearing will add more stress too. I don't have much to say about Ra Young and Chul Soo but I liked Ra Young's reaction when she learned about his rich family. She's not a golddigger like I imagined her to be. I teared up at Grandmother's speech... I hope Min Ha will go to that science high school and make his parents proud.

Happy Friday :D

FIS - Even Hae Young is annoyed with her MIL but I was surprised to see she shouted at her FIL lol. I mean she also can't bear to see how insensitive her FIL is. I don't know how Hae Young can help to resolve these two's issue, but I hope she will be successful!

Hi @seralovestteobokki ! It's good to see again :D

MIL is lacking love and attention from her husband. I think that's why she's always bothering her son and Hye Young. When she and HY went to the mall, she said she always wanted to shop with her DIL. Sharing a bit of love and affection HY received from her parents with MIL and FIL will have great effects I guess.

Just butting in on the FIS comment :)

I used to dislike the FIL but after hearing him site all the reasons he wants to "graduate from marriage" now I understand him. I mean, honestly, can you imagine putting up with that for almost 40 years? He's retired and now he just wants to relax and enjoy his golden years. Really can't blame him.

I also thought MIL was being dramatic with the partial hysterectomy BUT he could have been more understanding. A little compassion would have gone a long way.

I know a lot of FIS's fans really like the Actor Ahn plot story. I liked it too, but I like the most when they are just happy bundle big family and facing daily crisis like couple eps before. It was a joy, funny and relaxing.

Btw, beside feel bad bout MIL's disease, I find her really really annoying. Most bad nonsensical MIL (BOF SG) still has brain & can responses to people. But this MIL? She doesn't know guilty, nor sympathy nor empathy nor shame. She is brick wall, she can't and doesn't want to reciprocate people feeling around her. She is the most selfish shameless shallow human being I've ever seen in drama for the moment. I even hate the actress bcs of this role lol

Same. I found it quite depressing with Actor Ahn's plot in recent epi that I just skipped some parts. Interestingly story about the oldest bro with his wife has attracting me lately. I do find Hae Young MIL is annoying, but personally I don't hate her so much. She is like an adult who was pampered in her whole life, and ppl around her never said anything bad in front of her(her husband, son) and in her late age, suddenly she finally met ppl who are talking back to her, and trying to tell her about her wrong actions. Now I'm looking forward to see more of her interactions with Hae Young, when HY said her MIL is obssess with Jong Hwan, imo her MIL is actually obsess with her! lol.

Same, I guess they are too many serious / using brain drama out there now, we need a happy camper badly :( . Signal, Tunnel, Defendant, Whisper, Circle, Lookout, even Suspicious is very depressing these days!

Yeah I do hope they explore more abt the older bro & wife. Her coworker pissed me off. Wait until u do pregnant girl.
I will find the light u draw about MIL lives in her Cheongdamdong Bubble & now crash with Gangnam's HY urban style lol.
But in this kind situation I will blame Jeong Hwan the most, he seems so clumsy, not very wise. He needs to gain respect, shows more dignity & strong principal to stand up to his Mom & lead his new wed life independently.

Btw i bet u will loose it if MIL texted you in terror like that haha

Jeong Hwan and his father tbh also contributed to why his mother acting like that - they used to please and be patient with her all the time without trying to educate her in someways, I really mad with JH when he kept it a secret from HY about his mother fake cast, he actually still doesn't understand HY's character. He might think HY will explode easily if he tells her, but he tends to forget HY is always use her brain first in most of situations. But if you mess with her and she feel betrayed, she can lost her control.

LOl her MIL is really something else ?? It is like an addiction, the more you ignore me, the more I will disturb you!

Hi @mango. I Know Berlin, for i used to live 1 1/2 hours away. I like it sometimes. Shopping in Berlin is the best. Very cheap.
But i have heard, Düsseldorf is one of the most beautiful cities in Germany. I live in Nürnberg... a little far away from both. But anyway... enjoy your stay. Germany is a beautiful country to go around. Wonderful architecture.
Chicago Typewritter is one of my most beloved dramas in 2017. Wow... but it Made me cry sooo much, i dont know if i will rewatch it.

OMG those two couples.?? I really hope they make it to wedding aisle. I hate when those happened to an actor/idol's girlfriend especially when she's not popular enough or labeled as not worthy to their bias. I just don't get those fans who're so obsessive that they give threats to the girlfriend. This is why some of them just don't want to admit their relationship openly because of some fans' reactions.

2

Required fields are marked *

True. They are also accusing Namoo (their agency) using LJK's popularity to promote JHB.
Even with famous couple like Songsong also received some hatred, such as SJK is too good for SHK but luckily there are not that. This always happened when they are top stars. To see some fans are doing to that extent because they don't like the actress, it's way too much. Hopefully JHB doesn't receive any threat irl, fans sometimes can be so scary! Same goes to Jang Nara&Park Bo Gum's dating rumours - the one who is receiving the hatred mostly is Jang Nara, some fans even touched with the sensitive subject like her age. sigh.

Required fields are marked *

It's not only top stars, if the woman is non-celebrity, she could get some threats too which is why when an actor/idol is dating a non-celebrity, he tries to hide it as much as possible. I remember reading news about LMH's ex-gf who's non-celebrity received a dead rabbit infront of her house(not sure if it's valid or not, but still).

There's another news regarding Park Bo Gum's staff. I don't know if she's Park Bo Gum's personal makeup artist or hair stylist, I remember reading a news that she also received threats from fans since PBG's acting friendly to his staff. Know PBG's personality who's always nice to others, I feel disgust to those fans who can't think rationally. Btw the datingrumor of Jang Na Ra and Park Bo Gum is really funn tho to me.

There's Viu which is a bit like Viki (you don't need an account, you can find the app on app store), but if you use the free version you need to wait for 3 days before you can watch an episode after it broadcasts.

I don't think you'll get in trouble for watching anywhere else (KA, DC, DF etc) because I've been using those sites. Just find one that's more mobile-friendly.

I think a lot of people have a mistaken impression that our laws are extra strict but it's not really the case! But if you don't try tons of awesome local food then yes, that's pretty much a crime :P Enjoy your stay!

So, yesterday I saw in the news that USA was getting ready for the War with NK, and also saw the news where k-netz were blaming Seo In Gook for being sick to avoid the military.
And so I had a weird dream about the war between the 2 koreas.
N. Korea soldiers were fighting like beasts.
S. Korea soldiers on the other hand were throwing idols and actors on the front line and b*tching about how because of idols they did not have much national pride.
Of course , N. Korea won and all the idols and actors died. While the other S. Koreans ended up being N. Koreas slaves.

That dream kinda creeped me out :(

Hey beanies! Since this is an open thread, might as well ask the question I need to ask to everyone before D-Day.

What are some tips on how you can ace your interview for your internship?

1
5
reply

Required fields are marked *

I'm not sure if I am good at acing interviews, but it helps to read around about the company and the position you are applying for.

The company: What especially about that company did you notice that is different from others you searched up? You don't have to bootlick by saying that it's the best company, but let your knowledge of some specific things they pay attention to or value inform your answers to the questions they ask you.

The position: Maybe you won't really be able to Google information about what that company's interns do, and that's ok. Show that you are interested by asking them questions about the position. What tasks will you be given as an intern? Are there any current projects that they might assign you to?

Also, if they ask you about something you don't really know, don't be afraid to be honest. They can probably see right through if you are fluffing, and that's embarrassing and also takes time away from other questions you can maybe answer more fruitfully.

Don't forget to arrive early and good luck!

2
1
reply

Required fields are marked *

I've kept in my mind that I should really know about the company very well unlike my other colleagues who just went straight for it without getting data and that failed them. I've taken focus on the not being afraid to be honest because I sometimes tend to be afraid if I ask something I don't know. I sometimes think of it as a negative remark because I sometimes doubt things. By the way, thank you for this!

As a person that has sat on both sides of the interview, here's my two-cents.

1. Dress appropriately. I know this is basic, but you'd be surprised, no low cut shirts, no short skirts, brush your hair, don't put on too much perfume/cologne or hair product.

2. Be engaging. Look interested, make eye contact. Smile and act approachable. Most of the time, the interview is just so they can see if you'd be fun to work with and not awkward.

3. Know something about the company or them and talk to them about it. Once, I noticed that my interviewer was a big Duke fan (from his office paraphernalia) and we talked about that for most of my interview. Also, if there is something about the company that you think is especially cool, tell them why. Everyone likes to talk about themselves or a great company. Keep in mind that it's also an interview to see if you would like working there, so if there is something you are unsure about, then put that out there as well.

4. Don't be too enthusiastic. Sometimes, this comes off as just being fake.

Hope this helps.

6

Thanks for this! I actually thought that being more enthusiastic compared to others is a very good thing but from what you've said, I think being natural is actually better.

adding to all of the previous advice, know your strong and weak points , for instance one of my job interviews asked me whether i had experience in coaching, and i replied that because i had given pracical courses previously, i'm okay with presenting and transferring knowledge aswell as writing up any necessary documentation etc etc, try to draw from your experiences in group activities (even if you just played a team sport) , like i would also say as i am a mechanical and creative person, i enjoy knitting a lot as an outlet for that, that really helps them to see what kind of a person you are :)
and smile :) look them in the eyes when possible, engage,
good luck!! you'll do great :)

Have you got any other alternative titles to share? ?

N.B. Just in case anyone is curious, Lord Cobol is the beanie who came up with the ingenious idea of reinventing drama titles, originally as satire on the the casting fiasco for My Sassy Girl. You can check out the original comment (no.24) and various hilarious and clever follow-up titles in the article My Sassy Girl’s original leading actress rumored to quit, role still not cast. The article itself can be found on the second to last page of the search results for My Sassy Girl tag.

So can we have a drama with
"Angry Dae Mok
Pouty Shi Mok" as the title? Of course the casts should be none other than Heo Jung Ho and Jo Seung Woo.

I only made it through 3 hours of Ruler before I dropped it - so I'm not too full of ideas, except maybe

Ruler, Master of Lame

Pot

Plot (?)

Too bad, Kim So-Hyun has been one of my favorites since School 2015 and Bring It On Ghost, and I was really looking forward to that show, but the water monopoly story was too lame.

Open Thread week 22! My husband and I celebrated our 15th anniversary yesterday! Going out to dinner tonight with friends to a new restaurant in town. I guess it’s the “it” restaurant right now, French cuisine, so I’m kind of excited. I’ve never eaten French food. We used to live in northern California and there was a restaurant there called “The French Laundry” that took a year to get into. Supposedly, the best French restaurant in the states. We’re not really that type of people, so skipped it, and it was horribly expensive. I’m only curious now because our little farm town has 2 stop lights and now a French restaurant that all the city folks are buzzing about.

“Circle” is still on the brain for me which we watched and finished last week. I use “we” lightly, because, technically, only I watched it and then gave my husband the Cliff Note’s version. What an amazing example of story telling. It was sci-fi only in the premise and a couple of the plot points, but not all the plots were solved, and really centered around the love families have for each other and the lengths they will go through to protect each other. Kind of like how “Train to Busan” wasn’t really about the zombies, but about the love a dad has for his child, “Circle” was never about the alien, but about the love shared by two brothers. (And now I’m crying.) And, of course, Yeo Jin-goo. I’m so glad he will be on my screen again in a couple weeks! All “Circulates (Circle-8?)” unite!

And I caught up with “Lookout,” filling my husband in on the details. Another great summer drama (there are so many right now)! The acting is superb here as well. Kim Young-Kwang just went up several notches on my ladder of great Korean actors through this. I totally believe him as a two-faced SOB, a man bent on revenge, but trying to redeem himself through these last episodes. There’s not really a romantic angle here for him, and the bromance is subtle—but so satisfying (he, he). And Lee Si Young. If you don’t know who she is, look her up. A great actress as well.

And I guess the big news this week was about the Song-Song couple getting married. We never got past the first 30 minutes of DOTS, because Song#1 was too baby-faced for us, and Song#2 was too plain (I know, we’re horrible people). But I told my husband the news while we were at the pool last night.

Me: You know the actors in DOTS?

Husband: Yeah, what about them?

Me: They’re getting married.

Husband: What? That never happens, right?

Me: No, everyone is super shocked about it. It’s everywhere on the Korean news and fan sites.
Husband: Are they like the Kore
an “it” couple, the wedding of the century or something?

Me: Most likely, and then the Weightlifting Couple is also dating, but that’s old news.

Husband: I’d rather marry that guy.

Me: ???

Moral of the story: Bride of the Water God, here we come.

2nd Moral: Actors that remind us of our kids are usually not...

Park Seo-joon definitely has the "it" factor. His roles in the shows I've seen him in have been pretty diverse thus far, and he's done a bang-up job in each one. I'm in a weird spot with Park Hyung Sik. I liked him in Hwarang but that show wasn't the best. I never really liked Strong Woman Do Bong-soon--I'm surprised no one has mentioned Ji Soo yet--so I need to watch a show where I like both it and his character.

Good afternoon, Beanies. I hope y'all's week went well and that weekend will be even better. My week didn't go too well - I failed an exam and have to retake the test. It doesn't help that I hate both the class and the prof with the fire of ten thousand brightly burning suns. Ughhhh.

But I've been dying to ask Beanies this question:
Is there a life lesson/a takeaway that you've learned from watching Dramas?

For me, the most profound lesson, I think, comes from THE LONELY SHINING GOBLIN , when Eun-tak tells Goblin something along the lines of "live happily, live well, live with honor because that's the correct way to repay the love you've been given."

And then of course, from my darling Nirvana in Fire , the scene where Mei Changsu is talking to Dong Jie, and tells her he can't be with NiHuang even though he loves her, because he's dying: "Life is so hard, and there are no guarantees."

There's also the scene where he says "... I've been given a second chance [at life] so I won't waste my life!"

All the above scenes made me pause and ponder the words over and again in my mind.

Currently, I'm watching Princess Agents, and there is a fabulous online discussion going on about the limits of revenge and hatred, and what the best way to live on after one's have been so dreadfully wronged are (bringing me full circle to what Eun-tak said to Goblin about life)......

Is there any one else? What lesson/food-for-thought have you learned from dramas?

From Misaeng, this one I cherished. It's my way of saying, I still have more to do in this world we live in. It's sadness and hopeful at the same time:

Oh Sang Shik: You made it here anyway, so try to survive. You have to endure to survive here, and to survive means that you need to figure out how to live a complete life by whatever means possible.
...
Oh Sang Shik: In go, there’s such a thing as an incomplete life or state of being, and a complete life or state of being. Here, we’re all still incomplete.

Reply 1997 also has some of the best life lessons i've seen. It's now a cliché and mentioned a lot here, but this is the one that hurts my heart the most:

The reason I like you? Because you’re that person. Because you’re you. Is there another reason besides that one? I’d rather know the reason if there was one. Then I could find a way to not like you. If I can’t avoid it, then there’s only one thing I want: to remain by your side, unchanged, for long time. Here’s to our love, that chills our hearts.” – Joon Hee

"People. Relationship. Social life. Small misunderstanding and bothersome emotional disputes. It's a waste of energy. People force others out of line. Selfishness is hidden behind empathy. Foolish humanism. None of it is real. It's all hypocrisy. Today, I succeed again in protecting myself from it all." - Individualist Ms. Jiyoung.
Me: Hey I have a friend
"Real life is filled with women who work hard & succeed on their own, so take the glass slippers & feed them to the dog!" - Fight My Way
Me: Hell ya Not every woman wants to be cinderella ?
"Real hero doesn't need to take lives." - Border (J drama)
Me: Yes, to be a hero doesn't need to go as far as saving life either, probably smile to the one person standing next to you will
When someone takes someone's memory, it also means he/she takes that someone's responsibility of his/her action. - Circle
Me: Memory is what makes a man. ?

This should be a theme question. It's so good.
I remember that from Goblin! I loved that too. I think Goblin had a ton of great messages squeezed in there. Being careful who you trust is what I took away from the young king. How about when the butterfly God revealed that he was always listening & caring in the bar? I'm not super big on a religious path but I think the idea is that you are important. Don't despair or insult yourself because a loved one (in this case the butterfly God) cares about you and would be insulted if treat yourself that way. Eun Tak's sacrifice was the biggest takeaway. We can make a choice to do good and while that choice can require a lot of from yourselves the benefits to someone else can be enormous and far reaching.
How about Circle and its exploration on memory, family and trauma? I'd dve into that more because Circle gave me so much to think about but my heart still hurts. The absence is too fresh.
Aww Fight My Way and it's consistent message on following your dream. That your dream can transform and that's okay. Dream on.
