Yoon Doo-joon courted for a third season of Let’s Eat on tvN

Oh yay, a third season of Let’s Eat? Put me down for a table of one. This is one series I’m happy to grab endless helpings of, all-you-can-eat buffet style. The comedy about food and single life has turned into a successful franchise for tvN, and now a third season is officially in the works for a broadcast next year, and an offer is out to Yoon Doo-joon to headline once again as the funny foodie who loves to wax poetic about food. But wait… does this mean you’re going to get another new girlfriend?! *grabs collar*

The drama’s in-your-face approach to food takes some getting used to (they literally taunt the viewer with mouth-watering sequences devoted to eating), but the series has always managed to fill its world with quirky, relatable characters and tell small stories with loads of heart. The first season starred Lee Soo-kyung as a woman who loved being newly single but hated eating out alone, and Yoon Doo-joon as her weirdo neighbor who turned out to be a cheeky foodie blogger she followed.

At first I was annoyed when they had Yoon Doo-joon’s character move to a new neighborhood in Season 2 and romance a new girl, but that girl turned out to be Seo Hyun-jin, and it was the role that made me love her. The romance was actually better in the second season, as they went from childhood enemies to bickering friends, and eventually lovers.

The question is, what happens in Season 3? Will they be able to get Yoon Doo-joon and Seo Hyun-jin back, or will our hero move to yet another town and romance yet another neighbor? This is starting to become a rake gag. Part of me wants to see them try, just to see how it would work as a franchise premise. Right now I feel like I would kick him for leaving Seo Hyun-jin and falling for a new girl… but then I said the same thing about him and Lee Soo-kyung once.

Thankfully writer Lee Soo-mi of the first two seasons will be returning for Season 3, so I feel pretty good about continuity. PD Choi Gyu-shik of Season 2 will be returning as well, which concerns me a little more, as he was also the head PD of the Let’s Eat spinoff Drinking Solo—the production where the working conditions were so bad that a rookie PD committed suicide last year. I can only hope that planning this far in advance is a sign of improvement.

Let’s Eat 3 is being planned for a broadcast sometime in 2018, and the time slot is yet to be determined. All of my fingers and toes are crossed for Yoon Doo-joon to return, and for Seo Hyun-jin to join him so that his character could stop being a commitment-phobe who flies the coop after every breakup.

Perhaps this is a sign that I should watch Let's Eat 1 and 2! Specially now that I am in love with Yoon Doo-Joon after SSL and Highlight in general!

I enjoyed Drinking Solo a lot but have somehow never been able to go further than ep 1 of Let's Eat!

Same! Loved him in SSL and was wondering why he wasn't being casted in other shows. Like how couldn't they?

Haven't watched any of Let's Eat too but I probably will if this Season 3 is a go and turns out just as good as they say

I'll be really blunt. Season 2 of Let's Eat is a lot better than Season 1 and the reason is he is the main character in S2 while he was just one of 2 possible boyfriends for the female lead in S1. Just jump into S2 and if you like it you can catch up with S1 later.

By the way, both seasons of Let's Eat are now on Netflix in the US.

Did we watch the same drama? There was no contender for the girl in season 1, dojoon's character was the clear winner I think. Plus the romance was really subtle, I loved how gradually their relationship developed. I think it's really subjective, whether you liked season 1 or 2, so I won't generalize saying that season 1 is better than season 2, since it's up to everyone who watched it. Maybe I loved season 1 more because I loved the couple, but for you SHJ- DJ was a better pair, so it's more based on personal choice and preference I guess.

I definitely enjoyed all the characters and their journey in LE 1. I picked up LE 2 and strangely felt a disconnect with season 2's characters. When they made the female lead financially irresponsible woman who's incapable of making decisions like an adult, I dropped the show.

Hanging out at Korean restaurant is pretty expensive in my country. And it's actually the main reason I avoid watching any Korean shows with food in it, including this franchise. It's getting so hard with how people keep praising this production. Urgh. What should I do? I don't think I can help myself gulping and imagining all those tempting foods but at the same time I do want to watch them.

My coping mechanism was to make sure I was fed before or eating in front of my laptop screen. Otherwise I wouldn't be able to resist the temptation from mouth-watering tteokbokki or even some pork dish in it (I don't eat pork).

That would be awesome and is an actual possibility because bromance is the in thing at the moment. I nominate Lee Kiwkang for the role!
Also for people who are wondering why Doojoon hasn't been taking up more acting roles, it's probably because his group, Highlight, have started their own company and he's busy on the music and management front.
But I guess they have some proper connection with TvN because Kikwang was in Circle and Doojoon is now considering this. Doojoon, Highlight and Around Us fighting!

I want doojoon back because he played the role so well. And I also miss seeing him in a drama. He's been inactive in drama land since SSL. But at the same time I also don't want him back because I am a bit worried he gets stuck playing the same role each time he acts in a drama. But then, I like Go Dae Young almost as much as I like Doo Joon. So....

In a dilemma.

Also, Doojoon is currently on tour. Unless they make it fit with his schedule, I think it will be difficult for him.

To add my thoughts on the series tho:

I'm a petty person tbh, so all I could think while reading about the possibility of a 3rd female lead was, "HA. HA. H A. OH, HOW THE TURNTABLES DO TURNETH!" -_-;;;

Ngl, I was really heartbroken over LE2 replacing the 1st female lead (I felt like some cheated-on wife throwing my diamond ring at Doo Joon's feet while sobbing, "You let me believe it was true love!"), so the possibility of the 2nd female lead now suffering the same fate is making me feel...strangely vindicated??? I mean, clearly it isn't healthy for me to hold such a grudge over kdrama ships, but it is what it is. X'D

But female lead squabbles aside, I still hope this production turns out well, if only for the gorgeous food shots!

I guess I'm way out of step with the rest of the crowd, but I thought Yoon Doo-joon was the worst part of LE1. Not the food part, the slimy pushy insurance salesman part.

Then I dropped LE2 as soon as he started over-selling the old lady. Too bad - I was looking forward to seeing Seo Hyun-jin's performance, but it turns out it's easier to drive me away with something that really bothers me than it is to pull me in with something (or someone) really good.

him being the slimy pushy salesman is very little in comparison to his other stories in general, tho, IMO.

but I think it will be interesting to put Dae Young at the centre because his job is pretty interesting. I am pretty sure insurance salesman is often portrayed negatively by people around them, and Dae Young is such an interesting character to tell stories about insurance salesman. People get suspicious about your motive; and you start to doubt your own motive in getting close to people around you. That makes an interesting drama because it's a rare profession in drama land. Maybe, give it Drinking Solo style?

Though I love SHJ but have to tell I was more into the the couple and chemistry of season 1. Especially since I love noona romances and the female lead was too cute. Plus it really hurt that he moved on to a new girl since he looked so sincere towards the girl in the 1st season.? So I am hoping for a new pairing this time, if it's dojoon and SHJ again I won't be staying I guess.

Yeah sookyung(thanks for the name!) was such an endearing character. Like you said, she was quite closed and reserved at first but as the story developed, she opened up more and more because of dojoon's character. I totally loved how he leeched onto her and followed her around lol, and in the process she totally fell for him. I was so annoyed with dojoon's character at first,? he had a weird accent and always gushed about food in every way possible, but then the food blogging and everything made me his fan hehe. If she comes back for season 3, I wont mind either. Plus SHJ is doing a drama in the later half year, so I doubt she will have time for this one. And anyway judging by the previous two seasons, I think they go for a new story with every new version, so I don't think any of the previous girlfriends are coming back. :/

SO MANY FEELS. I want to see Doojoon in a new (and good) drama so bad! I was hoping he would be in one after forming his new agency and after seeing how Kikwang recently got the gig in Circle.

I liked the Let’s Eat season 2 better than the first one. The romance and chemistry between the leads were cute and more believable. I really took notice of Seo Hyun Jin then too. On one hand, I loved Doojoon’s suave and charismatic character in these foodie dramas. On the other hand, I want to see him in a different, compelling role. But at least the writer will be the same. A focus on bromance this time would be great. I don’t want to see Doojoon paired with a new girl.

Honestly I love Seo Hyunjin as an actress but I hate her character in Let's Eat 2. She's incapable of making adult-ish, financially or emotionally responsible decisions. She's broke and somehow managed to get dragged around for fine dining and bought an expensive bike, which she used once, before her office crush slowly faded. And that's only the stupid things I remember on top of my head.

Great news, girlfriday! I'd love to indulge in another feast of LET'S EAT.

I'm in the midst of watching Let's Eat 2 for my fave actress, Seo Hyun-jin, and love it to bits. The seductive food sequences are hilariously over the top, and remind me of TAMPOPO, the Japanese paean to ramen. I'm only about half-way through, but am enjoying the childhood frenemies aspect. My hat is off to SHJ, who went from LE2's "White Pig" to "Crazy Whale" in ROMANTIC DOCTOR, TEACHER KIM.

Yoon Doo-joon has been growing on me as Dae-young. He may be an insurance salesman, but he actually cares about his clients, and I find that endearing. I love how he conveys the character's concealed feelings -- and was surprised to realize he played the king in SPLISH SPLASH LOVE. He was terrific in that role.

I'd hate to see him move on to yet another girl as well, and I think Seo Hyun Jin is adorable. I'd like to see their romance get off the ground because I certainly didn't get enough of it in season 2. Considering what it took for them to get where they were in the end of that series, I don't think it'd be right for him to start over again. Moving on from the first girl was one thing, but a childhood friend is on another level.

Reasonable minds differ! I prefer S1 to S2, probably because I'm more of a slice-of-life drama person rather than a rom-com person. I loved the group of friends aspect in S1 (think Reply 88 or Age of Youth). I enjoyed S2 as well, but I liked how S1 female lead was allowed to be a little unlikeable and weird, where S2 was a little more standard rom-com female lead (although very well done for what it was).

And I totally love the second lead dude in S1. He's hilarious, because he totally commits to being terrible in the most awkward, funny way.

I thought so then, but perhaps in season 3, couldn't Dae Young shine enough as the foodie who brings everyone together with his charismatic personality and out-of-this-world cuisine intros, without a romance next season? Also, if they gave a little cameo to show Soo Kyung finally fell for Shim Hyun Tak, I wouldn't hate it. ?

I recently caught him on an old (?) episode of Please Take Care of My Fridge, Chef and as it turned out, he started working out and eating healthy after his ex-girlfriend broke up with him two years before that. He said to the camera that he loved her and he's still trying to get over her, it's likely that he'd only succeed when she's married.

It's kinda sad, but I think Shim Hyuntak is very much like Lawyer Kim IRL.

I found his obsession with Doraemon to be weird at first (because I still saw him as Lawyer Kim at that time) and then I found out that he gets obsessed with it because he has poor and lonely childhood, and Doraemon was his only source lf dream. It's just such a sad story and I can't help to sympathize with him.

A love triangle between him, Lee and Seo would make this interesting. Kinda a final showdown. Be easy to explain Lee's absence in season 2, do too a we were on a break kind of thing, maybe Lee is off getting a law degree and he was supposed to wait for her...? Would actuallly make sence as he kept saying he has a girl friend, and though that was to divert Seo's attention, he didnt have to be lying. 2 women in love with a man that who can't pick between them. Sounds like a typical drama.
