Premiere Watch: Temperature of Love

Yay, the fall romances are on their way! Finally, the dramas I’ve been waiting for all summer are about to premiere, starting with SBS’s Temperature of Love this week. I haven’t been finishing a lot of dramas lately, so I’m hoping that this new crop of shows will hook me from the start and have some staying power.

Temperature of Love

Time slot: Monday & Tuesday
Broadcaster: SBS
Genre: Romance
Episode count: 40 (half-hour episodes, 20 hours in total)

Reasons to watch: Seo Hyun-jin, of course. We’ve come to expect a certain kind of drama heroine when Seo Hyun-jin is cast—relatable, flawed, and achingly real—and I expect no less from her this time around. The thoughtful contemporary romance seems tailor-made for her to be another everygirl we can all fall in love with, and I’m also looking forward to her reunion with rookie actor Yang Se-jong, who turned me into a fan after his riveting performance as a set of clones in Duel. Judging from the pre-show promo they’ve got chemistry in spades, and I plan to enjoy every moment of their on-again, off-again romance as they work their way towards being at the same relationship temperature at the same time.

I have mixed feelings about writer Ha Myung-hee, who’s adapting her own novel for this latest project; I did enjoy Doctors and High Society, but found that basically anything outside of the one or two main romances was entirely superfluous. I’ll admit that I already care more about Seo Hyun-jin’s character becoming a drama writer than Park Shin-hye being a doctor or UEE being a chaebol, so that’s something. But really, we’re here to see how this couple falls in and out of love, so let’s skip straight to the good stuff, shall we?

I'm in for Seo Hyun-jin too, i love her, but still i'm hoping that ToL is a good drama, i've dropped so many dramas this year that i'm a little cautious to get excited. But I'm definitely checking this out tomorrow.

Seo Hyun-jin has a knack for elevating all material she's given, which gives me hope that I won't drop this. Plus I really love all four leads here, so I really hope that everything comes together nicely this time.

I'm a little wary of the writer, because I dropped High Society pretty fast and had no interest in even starting Doctors despite loving the cast.

Yup same. I tried to stick around for ~UEE and Song Joon in HS but that got boring super fast. None of the character decisions made sense after one point. Pretty much the same thing with Doctors? I hated the romance and just everything was so cheesy and superfluous as @girlfriday said. So tentatively hopeful this will be better.

I love Seo Hyun Jin and Yang Se Jong after watching RDTK and I crave a good romance so I am looking forward to this-their jobs sound interesting and the teasers looked quite good so I hope it is good.

Ooo I'm so happy that this is tomorrow! I just watched all 4 character teasers and they worked well together. The same scene from each of the four characters' perspectives, reciting the same lines. It sets up the story and characters nicely and was interesting and fun.

I'm another of the many of Seo Hyun Jin supporters. I'm not familiar with Yang Se Jon, though I know they were in RDTK together. I am expecting that Jo Bo Ah is another second female lead one loves to dislike, as she is so often cast. I'm glad to see Kim Jae-Wook again too, as I just watched Mary Stayed Out All Night and Dal Ja's Spring this summer coincidentally. Plus he was lovable in Coffee Prince. Hope he gets a lead role someday too.

Anyway, looks good!

@pickledplumtree,

Look forward to a dandy performance from Yang Se-jong. In ROMANTIC DOCTOR, TEACHER KIM, introverted tsundere Do In-bum butted heads with just about everyone, from his domineering father the unscrupulous hospital chief, to mentor Kim Sabu, his nemesis Kang Dong-Joo (Yoo Yeon-seok), and Kim Min-jae as nurse Park. Now that I think back on it, for all his buttoned-down passive-aggressive surliness, he actually had a fair number of pissing matches and even fisticuffs. YSJ's performance shone when In-bum came out of his shell and rose to Kim Sabu's challenge to become the doctor the patients needed. It was a thrill to watch the "crown prince" break free of his father's suffocating influence, and a bigger thrill to see him triumph as a team player. He was so inexpressive that you might mistake it for wooden acting, but nothing could be further from the truth. Especially when he talked turkey with his adopted noona, surgeon Yoon Seo-Jung (SHJ), who was on the verge of throwing in the towel as a physician. Very nice chemistry with Seo Hyun-jin.

YSJ was simply terrific in SAIMDANG, LIGHT'S DIARY. His dual roles in the present and in Joseon were as far removed from surgeon Do In-bum as one can imagine. His portrayal of the young royal and artist, Lee Gyeom, was dynamic, expressive, and romantic to the max. (YSJ looks great in hanbok, by the way.) His art history grad student persona, Han Sang-Hyun, was even more of a live wire.

In DUEL, he plays the parts of two clones and their donor... and clearly differentiates the three identical individuals in the most subtle and deft ways. But it was his performance as one clone impersonating the other, and being clearly distinguishable if you paid close attention, that blew my mind. In effect, it was a fourth role. Absolutely stunning.

After all the angst and tragedy of DUEL, and Lee Gyeom's politically-thwarted romance in SAIMDANG, I'm long overdue for a romance with a happy ending. (SEVEN DAY QUEEN just about killed me with its intensity, and THE KING LOVES has driven me crazy with all the triangular horsing around.) Bring it on, TEMPERATURE OF LOVE!

On Seo Hyun-jin's side of the equation, she was simply terrific in OH HAE-YOUNG AGAIN with Eric. Her chemistry was likewise off the charts with Yoo Yeon-sok in RDTK. I can't wait to see her pull out all the stops with YSJ. ;-)

Kim Jae-Wook is always a big draw for me. He plays bad guys better than any other actor in Korea as far as I'm concerned.

Thanks for the update on TEMPERATURE OF LOVE, girlfriday!

I've already been stoked at the prospect of Seo Hyun-jin, Yang Se-jong, and Kim Jae-wook gracing my laptop in a romance with nary a serial killer in sight. Now I'm excited to discover another member of the supporting cast for whom I've been on the lookout. Sim Hee-Seop was terrific as Hong Gil-dong's scholarly badass big bro, Gil-hyun, in REBEL. I can't wait to see what he's up to in this story.

I didn't realize this was a 20 hour drama. I tend to think that's too many for most dramas but especially romances. I hope it's enjoyable for all of you beanies!

Still sad that they ditched the awesome title for the boring generic title, but looking forward to this show anyway.

This drama is a must-watch for sure! I'm liking the whole main cast. Everyone's acting is good. Excited to see Seo Hyun Jin and Yang Se Jong back together again. I didn't watch the writer's previous works, but I really hope the plot/writing is great.

Ugh my kdrama backlog is increasing though. I still have a bunch of Duel episodes I need to finish. I sorta wanna wrap up seeing YSJ as Sung Joon before I get to this show. xD OTL But ah well, I'm still gonna make ToL a priority. XD;

Seeing the episode count for SBS and MBC dramas never fails to give me a mini heart-attack. I keep forgetting about the half-hour nonsense they're doing now.

That being said, 20 episodes still concerns me...

Seo-Hyun Jin is my main draw to me, followed by Jo-Boah. Both guys are just a bonus here, I love them but if the female leads are the ones I don't want to watch or with mediocre acting, I won't watch. Here we have both female leads who are so good and natural in romcom.? Lucky these two guys especially Yang Se-jong. He was good in what he did in the past drama, but truth to be told he is still green especially in this genre.

Going with no expectation at all, I just want something watcheable, that's all. ?❤

I'm having a watch party for the premier of this with my Korean friend who introduced me to Romantic Doctor Teacher Kim--which stared both these amazing actors--and I'm expecting good things. Both can act the heck out of their characters and Yang Se-jong, if he smiles just once in the first episode, I'll stick around for the remainder.

It is the name that kills me. Seriously, Temperature of Love? Temperature?

Tagline: "When it is 30 degrees out there I fall in love."

It's the quintessential Korean title word-play that doesn't translate well. Yang Sejong plays a chef who is dependent on temperatures in making his cooking/baking turn out well. Love is a temperature (heat) dependent matter as well. More heat and passion=more love. That's the wordplay here, I guess.

Actually Manhole is not bad. But Man who sets the table.. I didn't know such a show existed, it is a pretty dumb name.

Third time's a charm? Her other dramas were lackluster as hell despite some very talented actors.
Ugh but Temperature of Love sounds, looks, feels so charming and endearing- gonna light all the candles I can find and wait in anticipation for that first hour recapped or subbed! Hwaiting and be jjang!

Doctors was so bad, so bad that I myself wasn't able to watch it even for the love of kim rae won. The script was awful and there was no story in short. It was more like watching a documentary. I am quite interested to watch seo hyun jin and yang se jong together, but I'm cautious because of the writer. Hope it delivers though.

It certainly looks interesting. I haven't watched any new drama in so long. This might bring me out of my new-drama-slump.

I'm still a little unsure about the chemistry between the two main leads, but I'll definitely be giving it a try because of Seo Hyun-jin. Will be watching the premiere tonight!

Seeing number of eps make I worried again. SBS dramas recently too draggy, from SP to RW. They should cut it to 12-16 eps (60 mins).
