Scam artist Woo Do-hwan joins forces with Mad Dog Yoo Ji-tae

Only eight more days until white collar crime procedural Mad Dog premieres, starring Yoo Ji-tae (The Good Wife), Woo Do-hwan (Rescue Me), and Ryu Hwa-young (Father Is Strange)! And to help us get excited for its arrival, more teasers and stills have been released. Yay!

The plot synopsis for Mad Dog is very similar to Police Unit 38: a refreshing drama that sends a counterstrike punch to a system that normalizes insurance crime, especially for the upper class. The character descriptions are also familiar: veteran police investigator who crosses moral boundary lines to catch his criminals (Yoo Ji-tae), check; young scam-artist-turned-temporary-good-guy-for-money (Woo Do-hwan), check; and beautiful female investigator (Ryu Hwa-young), check. But the similarities may end there, because in these new teasers, you can tell it’s going to be a totally different drama from the get-go.

Setting a thriller tone with its overcast colors, the teaser begins by announcing: “Korea, The Republic of Insurance Fraud.” A series of typical insurance scams are shown, like a car accident and a biking collision. Ryu Hwa-young whispers to someone that a man running healthily on the treadmill recently received a billion won for a supposed heart condition.

But not all accidents are planned—some are real tragedies. A plane crashes in midair leading to pandemonium, and Yoo Ji-tae cries in agony. Then Woo Do-hwan offers him a proposal: “If I can prove that this wasn’t an accident, I’ll take the 2.3 billion won insurance payment.”

In brief glimpses, we see other issues that are rooted in unjust allocation of insurance funds, which end up benefitting only the upper one percent as opposed to the people who really need it. Ryu Hwa-young is shown at a public demonstration against a careless construction site that killed people. A woman asks if everything can be solved with money, and a man replies coldly, “What other than money will you use to solve the problem?” The teaser ends with Yoo Ji-tae’s statement: “Korea isn’t a nation that listens to people who are powerless and poor, but I will listen to your story.”

The other 10-second promo clip doesn’t go that much into plot detail, but I love the gritty cartoon-photo-collage style of it. Both Yoo Ji-tae and Woo Do-hwan are shown, as the copy flashes onscreen: “Dark hero insurance investigation team refreshingly turns the world upside down.”

After playing an unscrupulous prosecutor in The Good Wife, Yoo Ji-tae seems a perfect fit in Mad Dog as an anti-hero, the leader of an investigation team who doesn’t care about what methods he uses to pursue justice. And I can’t wait to see Rescue Me’s breakout star Woo Do-hwan as an intellectual criminal who ends up working for the good guys.

Ooh, I’m getting chills of excitement already. KBS’s upcoming Wednesday-Thursday drama Mad Dog will begin airing on October 11.

I just started watching Rescue Me this weekend. I am only 6 episodes in but I am obsessed with the show and already heartbroken over Dong-Chul. Woo Do-hwan is doing an amazing job in the role. I haven't seen anything else he is in but I am now eagerly looking forward to this drama just because of my new found obsession with Woo Do-hwan.

I remember first seeing Woo Do-hwan in 'The Man Living in Our House' and wondered who is this guy, he certainly is a standout! It was the same feeling I had when first seeing Yoo An-in almost 10 yrs ago. I see a very bright future for Do-hwan. 🌟 Looking forward to this drama, I mean it already has Yoo Ji-Tae (woo-hoo), and Woo Do-hwan is icing on the cake!!!

This looks soooo good and dark!!!Quite curious already behind Woo Do Hwan's char. reason for approching and baiting Yoo Ji Tae's(will it be a big plan personal revenge)...I already feel for our main hero as we see he lost his family in that air crush and even more if it was indeed intentional for money...I wasn't expecting Do Hwan's char to be a scammer and the one approching the hero as the first info was that he was a genius Doctor and the first teaser hinted the main approching him with this cases...Please be good,be good as it shows!!!

This looks promising! Woo Do Han impressed me in "Rescue me", YJT is solid as always and Ruy Hwa Young's a great actress I found from her projects.
I look forward to this so much. Mad Dog and While You Where Sleeping will help me get out of this drama slump. Thank God both are starting just a week appart^^

There's one more thing common with Police Unit 38: Oh Dae-hwan as a possibly shady guy? Check! (He's there in 0:19 of the first teaser!)

Every time I see Woo Do-hwan, those eyes remind me of L in Death Note. *super random*

Mon-Tue, I have This Life is Our First to make me squee. Then Wed-Thu, I have this thriller to get me on the edge of my seat. And Sat-Sun for Siwon to make me laugh so hard. I AM SO READY FOR NEXT WEEK

I'm about to start Rescue Me so maybe I'll be jumping on the "Woo Do Hwan is ♥" bandwagon soon ^^

Yoo Ji-tae is the main draw for me to watch this drama ❤ But why no Hong Soo-hyun name mentioned here? As far as I know she is part of the main casts too. ( asianwiki.com/Mad_Dog; )
She is obviously appeared briefly as " a woman who asks if everything can be solved with money

These rookies have potentials, I didn't finished Save Me yet (don't know when, maybe I'll be happier to watch it if it is just a movie instead of 16 hours drama) but Woo Do-hwan is swoony ❤ Ryu Hwa-young here looks as sexy as Kang Yi-na but seems like it won't be another Kang Yi-na so it is good!

Anyway, good luck drama!

I'm getting confused about Woo Do-hwan's character - is he a (former) professor or a genius-turned-scam artist?
Hehe, he kind of has that Cheshire Cat-look in Mad Dog . A contrast to Yoo Ji-tae's character perhaps?

What a great cast... now if only the writing is done properly, PU38 was great on cable but I always worry if that kind of concept will be popular on public broadcast. Especially going up against Lee Jong Seok.

What about going up against Lee Jong Suk? His dramas never get very high ratings.

IHYV had high ratings. Pinocchio had too, comparing that in 2014 very few dramas got over 15% ratings. W won in its time slot too. Can’t tell much about School 2013 but that drama shot him into popularity and sealed his fate as a lead actor

Except for IHYV, Lee Jong Suk dramas where he is lead never average higher than 12%. Maybe the new drama with Suzy will go higher because of her. His nose is rather disturbing though, let's see if more people can get pass that nose and tune in.

Wait what? His nose may not be attractive to everyone (I like it when they are natural, it helps make acting muscles look natural too), but are you like his hater or what? Anyway, LJS dramas have always done well in their time slot and they have always created a hype, at least online. He is vastly popular and people watch dramas because of him. Of course Suzy’s fandom will make up some of the audience too, but to say that people will see it only for her is an overstatement.

Everything in this casting seems perfect but I’m a bit hesitant about Ryu Hwayoung. She was the weakest link in Father is Strange. Her acting is very monotone and slightly over the top. She did good job in AoY, but her character matched her perfectly and her acting suited AoY’s style.
