Drama viewership ratings for the week of Nov. 20-26, 2017

We have a few new dramas joining the mix, with courtroom rom-com Nothing to Lose and black comedy Smart Prison Living joining the Wednesday-Thursday race, and the gritty mob/crime drama Untouchable in a weekend slot. I’d say that Smart Prison Living had the most buzzworthy premiere; its entry numbers may have been a titch shy of Buam-dong Revenge Club’s vacating numbers, but it comes in with strong word of mouth and a promising 5 percent-ish start.
Nothing to Lose had slightly higher numbers on SBS, but with more mixed reviews; I found the leads appealing, but the plot a bit silly. And while their competitor show Mad Dog has been around for a while, it enjoyed a slight uptick in numbers, likely thanks to the exit last week of While You Were Sleeping. We’ll see if the numbers move at all in future weeks.
On the weekend, Bravo My Life on SBS was pre-empted for coverage of the Blue Dragon Awards, though the rankings remained largely unchanged. (It’s still light family series My Golden Life far out in front, with Jang Hyuk’s Money Flower making up some ground in second.)

Yeah, I read Netflix picked up the show and will supposedly have subs coming this Tuesday. But I also read it's only licensed to the States, so even if I had Netflix a lot of us still wouldn't be able to watch it there *sigh* I hope someone will have mercy on us and sub it anyway lol.

I really didn't like her in her last two leading roles but i think she is fine as Ha Ram. The ratings might be down to patience, i wish I would have left the drama until it's finished then binge watch it. That said it is really hard to get high ratings on OCN because it's cable Tv, I think the highest rating on OCN so far was 4%.

Both Voice and Tunnel average rating were 4.0% ++, but their highest rating exceeded 5% for Voice and Tunnel exceeded 6%.Black is doing good for OCN's standard.

Yeah at least the ratings didn't drop to 1% Black is just doing good. The action, the thrill the mystery, SSh and Go Ara are good too..It is also popular to international fans.

Please don't bash go ara for every single drama, and this one is really great. I think it's more because of personal preference, that we like or dislike a character? The whole story and all the characters are so tightly written here, there's no loophole in any part. I think for the first time go ara is really awesome in a drama.

Yeah, I agree. The ratings aren't stellar because of acting or pace. It's paced quickly, every episode is packed, and the acting is fine with a standout by SSH. Imo, the drama is just a little TOO confusing. I watch it like a hawk but putting it all together means remembering what happened four episodes ago, and because these episodes ARE packed, that means I can't always remember. Thank goodness for recaps. Black is not for the lazy casual viewer.

so i watched half of ep 12..got bored.. read recaps here on dramabeans.. got excited.. started ep 13 .. and its the exact same thing that was mentioned in ep 12 :( ..
SSH is really fine.. and probably that one big reason for the show to float..

I can understand where you are coming from if you are only tuning in now (which is the way I interpret your comment).
However, Black is a show that has been through 3 distinct phases.
1. Opening - ep08. (Lets call this Reaper Black). This was fast paced, a little stylish and darkly opaque. These episodes were a wild ride.
2. Ep09 & 12 - (I’d term these episodes Confused Black). The show shifted focus towards the underlying mystery. It lost some of its pace and gave up many of the tools the actors had to work with.
3. Ep12 - Ending. (Human Black). The show has already revealed its secrets to the viewers and we now are just waiting to see if/how the baddies will be caught. Gone is the brutal indifference of the dead, instead is a series of fairly standard reveals that are sign-posted way in advance.
If you are thinking of watching and the current episodes aren’t for you, I suspect you may like the beginning. Back in those ep there is a real sense of risk an tension.

I love Go Ara's acting, people have their own references. If they don't like the actress' acting then so be it. But others like me, love her acting. She's one of the best korean actress for me.

I think Go Ara is doing just fine in Black. She Was mediocre in Hwarang.... I dunno. Maybe k-netz don't have any patience with all the mistery.. Not to mention that many blood spilled in ep 13.
I do think Black gets more recognition internationally. Their latest video clips in ocn channel in youtube get so many comments..

The fall in ratings coincides with the week the plot became clearer. I think the audience that had tuned in were all signed up for the mystery - where we need to discover as much as the characters.
But as the show leaves behind that on edge feeling , it is loosing its mojo.
Unfortunatly the drama was never set up to work like other shows - its story construction and plot sequence is fundamentally different. Eg. in the early weeks there was very little "out loud -head voice". (where actors say the thoughts in their head) instead the show carefully constructed action where intent was shown or used the other reapers to discuss the new information (and reveal the plot point to us).
Go-Ara losing her fear of the outside world (and glasses) reduced what was a character struggling with existing on the liminal edge of living/dead worlds into just a normal person with an odd trait.
The early episodes thrived on the tension of 2 characters who straddled the living/dead from either side of the divide...and would these 2 be able to mediate the differences.

I'm really bad at explaining drama plots.so here goes.
my golden life is a family drama whose story resolves around the life of a girl whose mom lied about her birth parents and had her swapped with a chabeol's family real daughter.
the romance is not on yet. but there's gonna be romance between her and the chabeol family first son.
it gets interesting if you can get through the beginning episodes.

Yeay! I'm about to watch epi 5&6, so far it is good! Jang-hyuk is slayyy and everyone else is also doing well in their respective roles. A well-made and well-acted drama so far, I hope it stays good until the end. Hope it can reach 20% and more!

I'm just watching it for jang hyuk... Any scene he is not there, i promptly fast forward... But jang hyuk is killing the role... Like always
... For the life of me i cant understand why he signed this show... Its not prime time, it's not by some super writer like KeS, it doesn't have any path breaking story.... He just came out of successful voice... Why wouldn't he sign something that could take him up a notch

lmao. I don't understand the logic of this comment. For whatever reason, Money Flower is definitely a different genre than Voice, and is also well-received (the rating speaks on it). Just because you dislike this kind of drama, it doesn't mean this drama is bad. Just accept that you're not the intended viewer for this drama.

I meant that actors who are doing well usually have a few options to choose from for their next project...
On the face of it there is nothing in the story or the show that would attract an actor... Its a usual weekend revenge drama... Thats all..
He is one of my fav actors so i had hoped that after BM & voice, we would get to see him in something a little bit more interesting than this

I am watching it for Jang Hyuk, not a fan of revenge or melodrama, but the latest episode, i was sitting there fixated. I don't feel the chemistry between Jang Hyuk and the lead actress, she's so bland and uninspiring. Maybe she's spending too much time with birds. He and Lee Mi sook are just sizzling though...so much chemistry, they don't have to say a word, they just look at each other and the whole atmosphere heats up.

jTBC 's Untoucheable is doing good and the increase of the rating in epi 2 might be a good sign it will keep increase. I'm interested to check this one too, hope it will be subbed soon!
Rise more Money Flower! This drama is not everyone cup of tea, but it is good so far and hopefully until the end!

Money Flower has been label a family drama that airs on weekend so ppl kind of skeptical with the story. Afraid to be another yelling makjang ahjumma weekender. Honestly this drama can be at weekdays slot too.

That's why it is called as MBC Special Weekend Drama, because it is not the usual kind of weekend family drama, just like Marriage Contract and Flower In Prison too, which both were aired on weekend slot. I won't be surprised if MBC will keep doing this kind of weekend drama, if it means good thing for the rating.

Yes, that time slot is not reserved for family dramas only like KBS.
It's for different genres.
I though "Money Flower" was going to be a melo makjang drama but it's definitely more like Jang Hyuk's "Midas" (romance business drama).

Yes it does looks more like Midas and Empire of Gold, you either like or dislike this kind of drama, nothing in between. I'm glad it isn't too melo-makjang because it would probably make me stress. LOL.

I am pleasantly surprised by Park Se-young in this one. I've only seen two episodes, and so far, more emotions/expressions have crossed her face than the entire time she spent in Beautiful Mind (my baby) and Whisper (my other baby that went of the rails). If nothing else, it gives me lots of hope. (But of course Jang Hyuk is killing it. But that goes without saying).

I love watching Park Seyoung- she is so gorgeous , her beautiful hair, nice complexion, long slender legs, not too skinny and she has the most expressive eyes, her vulnerability- she is perfect for this role

When I first read the synopsis, I was thinking to myself , not the kind of story I would like.. So glad I gave it a try. It is definitely so much better than I expected! The BGM, the cinematography, the top notch acting....

Am enjoying the warm hearted Boy and Girl so much. Wonderful cast and such a sweet story to end 2017. For once there is no dramatic backstabbing etc so can't understand the low ratings.

It's sad that 20th Century Boy and Girl's numbers are so low but I do kind of understand why since it's moving pretty slow. Regardless I'm still enjoying it a lot. It's not an addictive watch but I like how it's a warm and simple drama.
