Lee Sung-kyung courted for tvN fantasy romance About Time

I’ve been interested in this drama since it was first announced, because the concept sounds like a wonderful mix of the romantic and the supernatural, and I’m happy to hear that it’s being planned for a broadcast next year on tvN. About Time is about a heroine who has the gift (or curse) of seeing how long a person has left to live, and a man who magically makes her time stop when they fall in love. Lee Sung-kyung, who was delightful in the coming-of-age drama Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok-ju, is being courted to headline and is considering the project favorably.

The leading role that Lee Sung-kyung has been offered is a beautiful musical actress who can see the “life clocks” of everyone around her except her own, and is described as having an unfortunate fate. She’ll meet a man who isn’t a supernatural being or gifted with any special powers, but somehow he’ll magically stop her life clock from advancing. And based on their love, that time will stop, or extend, or vanish altogether. The drama will be about those “magical moments that only love can save.”

The series comes from a rookie writer and PD Kim Hyung-shik of Twenty Again, and though the story is very different, I can see it tackling similar themes of embracing life to the fullest when you might have a limited time left to live. I’m pleased that Lee Sung-kyung has been offered the main character in another heroine-centric drama as well, and judging from the plot descriptions, it sounds like my kind of show already. Now, who to cast as her time-stopping, heart-stealing leading man…

About Time is being planned for a Monday-Tuesday slot in 2018.

It's about time! I have been waiting for her next drama after WLFKBJ. I hope she will accept this project, and for the male lead how bout Bo-geum? He's been missing from my screen for more than a year.

A man who will stop one’s life clock from advancing? Forget Mr. Darcy -this fountain of youth is now the holy grail of fantasy boyfriends!

Sounds interesting! And I just love the phrase ‘those magical moments that only love can save’.

Is it strange that when I thought of a person who could be paired up with LSK I immediately thought of the male lead in Witch’s Court? Haha perhaps they have those similar naturally fierce eyes?? Hahaha

If Kim Woo Bin wasn't sick with cancer (get well, Woobin!) I would wish for them to be male+female lead, they are both tall and have that kind of dangerous sexy look.

Or even Yoon Kyun Sang, they matched well in Doctors with their height and his intense look. Too bad the drama made her a couple with someone else.

Yoon Hyun Min he is really good.. He is the 2nd lead in the drama Tunnel and I like his bromance with Choi Jin Hyuk in that drama. He is a good actor considering he is a baseball player before entering showbiz :D By the way he is Baek Jin hee's boyfriend..

This sounds like my cup of tea, I might be in the minority who's not a fan of LSK, although I've watched WLF despite not liking her and NJH, i didn't like her acting and her face expressions but I liked the story, I don't mind it if I don't like the actress/actor if the plot is interesting, I've even watched The Girl Who Sees Smell despite Shin Si Kyung and i an willing to check on black, i hope they choose a good actor as her co-star if she accepts.

Same, not really a fan of her, she js OK and seems to pick her role well Two female-centric drama in a row is just wow, not everyone is that lucky (I guess, strong agency does help a lot here). Depending on who is the male lead, I might check this one.

I dunno how this is a female centric drama tho? It’s like saying YFAS is male centric because it’s about an alien. Or that Masters Sun is female centric because it’s about a woman who can see ghosts.

The story sounds like a love story so it’s going to probably be equal footing for both actors in general and others will depend mostly on how the characters are written. But right off the bat, there’s nothing that suggests this is female centric. Specially if they score a really popular or stronger actor than LSK for the male lead.

I understood based on synopsis, her character will be the centre of this drama. But I could be wrong as well.

I feel like LSK is the type that suits stronger roles, the typical sweet kdrama candy type role that she did in her weekend drama doesn't suit her at all. I thought she was really good as Baek In Ha in the second half of Cheese in the Trap.

Like she might not be the greatest actress but she has charisma and she can emote, she doesn't need roles written to try hard to hide her flaws.

A long time ago i saw a gif someone linked of her IOIL character with Kim Woo Bin's Heirs character, I think she'll have good chemistry with other actors who have strong auras like her.

I found her overacted as Baek In-ha but it was more on how her character was supposed to be. OTT, I'm interested to see Yoo In-young's version of Baek In-ha in CITT the movie.

LSK is pretty decent imo and just like you said, she suits more with stronger roles. There are some actors / actressess that suit with only certain kind of roles, and not everyone is versatile and has a wide range of acting skill, which is fine for me as long as they can act.

I thought her overacting was in the first part of Cheese, after about ep 11 she suddenly got a lot better and people realised it was the PD directing her that way in the first half (that PD seriously. .). And by the last few eps she was really good, I liked her broken psycho girl acting.

But you are right, I don't need an actor to be super versatile and chameleon, it's enough for me if they act convincingly in the role I'm watching them in. This girl has shown capable of that much, so many people who got lead roles this year can't.

You know what, it is scary to think that her time will stop advancing while his clock still keeps on moving. It makes her to be the one who is left behind, really unfortunate.

Oh, oh ! Can we have everyone's new favorite Jang Ki Yong as the male lead? Their height difference isn't that much and they will look nice together :)

I thought I saw them together in Choi Ara's (AoY's Jo Eun) instagram post so they have already known each other in real life !

But if I am not mistaken he was exempted from military duty for obvious and real health reasons so why should he be ashamed?

6

Required fields are marked *

He has no reason to be ashamed. It would be more shameful to join when he's not in shape and endanger his unit's lives. He did nothing wrong and the doctors had to make that decision. It's silly that he has to disappear for 2 years just because people don't bother to understand the situation and judge ignorantly.

Shame for what? Being badly injured?

Do these people really think the SK military just gives out exemptions like that, he even went to serve and only then got sent back, he didn't try to avoid it or anything.

Don't get me wrong LSK is a beautiful model but unlike many others I find LSK's expressions too over the top which makes her acting seem unnatural. She was okay in Doctors since her role was a bit more mild but in CITT her acting made me cringe and in WLF she was okay in some scenes but in others her over the top expressions from CITT returned.

I will still check it out though since the premise sounds interesting.

I read somewhere that the director of CITT was the one who told her to act that way. Apparently Lee Sung-kyung herself wanted to tone it down a bit but the director wouldn't let her.

Twenty Again is among my fav romcom, I really love it. But it wasn't a fantasy drama, but more as slice of life romcom, so not too sure what to expect on this drama. Maybe there's a little chance this is going to be a reunion project between this PD + Lee Sang-yoon.

As for the male lead, I would like to see her in a romance with Yang Se Jong, Park Hyung Sik...or maybe Park Bo Gum? I know it is unlikely, but a girl can dream :D

The story premise of seeing other people’s life clocks reminds me of a similar concept used in Nickelback’s Savin’ Me music video (starting at 1:26)
