You know your drama addiction is bad when you are out of town for work and rather than going out drinking on the company dime, you curl up in your room watching "Because This Life is Our First". I have no regrets. This week's episodes were fantastic.

Also, Orlando is great and all but I miss my bed.

Happy Friday Beanies!
I was at a party on the weekend and someone asked me if I still watched all this Korean stuff. It made me think of why I love it so much and I came to realise that it’s because I like my stories to have a beginning, a middle and an end. Not a beginning, a middle and a season 2.

Then I had a nightmare vision of Go Back Spouses US style (or UK style). It would go something like this: the writers end season 1 on a cliffhanger: Jin-joo kisses Nam-gil and Ban-do watches. In season 2, with JJ and Nam-gil together, Ban-do dates a number of girls but they’re all too immature and he ends up with the lecturer who had her skirt stuck in her knickers in one of the early episodes. The whole season is about this noona romance that all his friends and family disapprove of apart from Jin-joo. She understands and they become close friends. Just before the end of season 2, the actor playing Nam-gil gets a better offer so the writers kill him off with the Truck of Doom at the season2 finale. Season 3 is about Jin-joo coming to terms with her loss all over again. The writers can reuse scenes from season 1, so that’s convenient. The actors become too old to pass for university students so in season 4 they get jobs. Ban-do and Jin-joo both become interns at a pharmaceutical firm. Also an intern is Dr Park, who’s dropped out of medical school. The writers assume that by now everybody has forgotten that he was the bad guy in season 1 and make him Jin-joo’s love interest. Viewers are leaving in droves and the series is cancelled between season 4 and 5. There’s never a proper ending, they never get back to the present day. The writers are secretly pleased because they’d never figured out how to end it in the first place.

Sometimes I don’t like the ending of a series – and can think of better ones than the writers have come up with – but I love kdrama because there is one. Even if it’s an ending I’m not happy with.

Hahaha! You hit bullseye with the problem I have American tv.. I need complete stories!! Unless it's a slow like Big bang theory where there is no big story which needs an ending but is everyday life for laughs.

And gosh your GBS American tv style is definitely a scaaary nightmare!! I hope kdrama never ever does that!! *looks at the horrible cliffhanger-ish ending of Mystery Queen*

"A beginning, a middle and an end" is exactly what I tell people as well!! :D :D

That's exactly how a US or UK version of this amazing show would go! *shudder*

Required fields are marked *

That's exactly my point. I've been a drama addict since my childhood. But after getting into kdramas in last 4 years I found it really well balanced than US dramas. Most the US dramas become so boring after season 5 or they just lose track (e.g. supernatural. It's superb before it hit this super weird plot after season 5). And kdrama explores more plots and shows less sexual scenes.

Be glad Go Back Couple US was cut when it did. If it had continued, after sleeping with everybody not blood related in the pharmaceutical firm, eventually around the end of season 7 we would see Jinjoo and Bando rekindling their love. In season 8 they would be building their relationship, he would propose, and we would spend season 9 preparing for their wedding. In the first 5 minutes of the last episode they would tell us that the marriage only lasted 3 years and ended in divorce, but because of their son (who still didn't exist), they got married again and after many years of happy marriage Jinjoo got cancer and died. And finally, in the last scene Seojin gives Bando his approval to date Seo-Young, whom he met recently and was still single.

HIMYM was the last US TV series I was invested in. I'm still burnt. At least when a drama ending makes you angry, you only lost 2-3 months of your life, 16 h, but in the case of US TV series it's years. Also, I dislike how things start well, but after a while they have to keep making it interested and, if the main theme of the series is romantic relationships, everybody will end up having a relationship with everybody.
The best are shows like Bones, The mentalist, etc. , where there is mystery every week and after a few seasons, when it starts getting boring, they start the romance and then end the series.

And the worst thing was in the end they made Barney pathetic, after so much character development... he was the most awesome/fun character for me.

3

I started watching himym quite later...around season 7....but I caught up by the time season 9 came...and it was such a huge letdown. ..I mean you spend the entire season showing the wedding and then at the last episode you break them up? And that's not even the worst part. ..of course the show had to be about Robin. ..I was so disappointed. ..Ugh..I just got angry all over again

Oh, thank you for that laugh @cloggie!!!!
I know what you mean. I've only been watching kdramas for 2 years (so I'm still kind of a newbie I guess) but since I started them I haven't watched American TV since. (Okay, I watched Sense8 and am part-way through Stranger Things) I agree wholeheartedly with your description of what US TV would do to Go Back Couple.
Let's not even imagine what they would do with BIOFL! yikes!
Anyway - thanks for the laugh.
I've given up trying to describe to people why I enjoy kdramas. When I try to describe the plots that I think are fantastic (see Black, Goblin, GBC, Signal etc) their eyes begin to roll back in their heads and I can see them completely tuning out, and when I change the subject they don't even notice. sigh.
thank goodness for Dramabeans! I don't write much, but I lurk in the corner and enjoy all the conversations and I don't feel quite so alone.

LOL! This is so funny yet with much thought and possibility! I'd never noticed that US/UK style series don't have endings... I guess its because I usually drop the series by Season 4 or 5 and never realize that there is actually no ending.

I'm so glad Go Back Spouses does have an ending and I loved it! (Except for the god's thing... but I guess the writers had to solve the mystery of what caused the going back in the first place...)

2017 is about to end so I have listed my top 10 drama and the rating is given mainly based on how much I loved and enjoyed them, although I also took into consideration other matters as well - such as the writing, directing and acting. I'm not sure if it will change as I also have few drama in my marathon list. This based on shows solely started and completed in this year.

1) Forest of Secrets - 10/10
2) Chicago Typewriter - 10/10
3) Go Back Couple - 10/10 (still have 2 more epi before this rating can be conclusive, but for now it is)
4) Buamdong Revenge Club - 9.5/ 10
5) Age of Youth - 9.5 /10
6) Chief Kim - 9.5/10
7) Woman Of Dignity - 9.5 /10
8) Rebel Thief Who Stole The People - 9/10
9) Father Is Strange 9/10
10) Girls' Generation 1979 9/10

There are some others which I enjoyed and rated them 8 /8.5 such as OCN's thrillers -Voice and Tunnel, Circle, Whispers, Live Up To Your Name, Radiant Office etc.

My most disappointing drama in 2017 (some I finished watched, some are not)

1) Ruler Master of The Mask - 3/10
2) Strong Woman Do Bong-soon 3/10
2) Man To Man - 4/10
3) Missing 9 - 4/10
5) Reunited Worlds 4/10 (solely for Yeo Jin-gu)
5) Introverted Boss - 5/10 (4 points for Yeon Woo-jin alone)
6) Mystery Queen -5/10
7) Temperature of Love 5/10 (lol this show is not even finished yet, but I have decided to rate it)
8) Saimdang 5/10
9) Suspicious Partner 5/10
10) TBD (plan to put Criminal Minds, but I just watched 2 epi before I dropped it, so I think personally it would be unfair. Other shows - at least I watched until 4 epi)

Maybe I had quite a high expectation? The premise was intriguing enough, but I feel like aside from main couple romance, other parts especially the plot about her being a strong woman wasn't properly executed. I was pretty disappointed - because I thought we could get a good female centric romcom.

I'll have to agree on that. swdbs left me with a question mark, I expected something from the show, and I can't quite point out what it is. But whenever I think about the show, I feel like something is missing. it could be the ending or the mystery itself.

I agree about SWDBS. I just didn't really get invested into the characters that much- it was a cute story but I personally didn't really buy into the "love triangle"? Don't know why but it just didn't really appeal to me that much.

So I noticed that one drama is glaringly missing from your top 10 list, maybe because you've not seen it, but I recommend you binge it over the holidays and update your list. #becausethislifeistooshorttonotwatchBTLIOF

Unlike back to 2-3 years ago when I basically watched and enjoyed almost every drama including those dailies and weekend drama, these days I'm not so into with kdrama anymore. Life also got busier each day. BTLIOF seems to be something that I can enjoy, but maybe now it's not the right mood for it. I also heard it is based on We Married As A Job (J-drama), I'm quite interested to check that one.

3

@Sera - originally this seemed a lot like We Married as a Job, but it has gone into completely different territory with the characters' actual personalities and other views of how love plays out via two other couples. I'd recommend it as a similar but addictively different show.

4

(when you are ready for it :))

2

Thanks @okiejune. Sometimes some things work in J-drama, but not working in K-drama. So i want to find out if WMAJ is something good for me. I don't know if I'll ever pick on BTLIOF, but I kinda interested with side characters' stories, so maybe it would be later.

2

Different strokes...My husband didn't like the first 2 episodes either. The set up was too depressing and our heroine was too mopey for him. But I think he's finally enjoying it now (although I'm about 4 episodes ahead at this point and I re-watch it with him).

@seralovestteobokki I guess I my drama doppelganger here in you. 😂 Unpopular choice here too, I also dropped BTIMFL. Lol like you I also liked the side characters more than the otp..but it happens I guess? You are gonna love we married as a job I think, also while I do know that nigeru is not like BTIMFL, but the fact that the drama premise is built on the same concept, does take away the unique experience I had while first time watching nigeru, you know what I mean. Also lee min ki is oh soo beautiful to look at, it's hard to buy for me that he's single for so long. And he would have hard time having a proper relationship with any girl for that matter. But on nigeru, the guy had lot of limitations, he wasn't attractive per se, while the girl was so cute and sweet with her crush on the husband. And not to add, they were always talking maths regarding marriage, and their innovative approach to their life together made it work for me. I wanted to see the romance that's hardly there while they were talking about mundane things. But on BTIMFL, the fact that the couple are hesitant and awkward around each other looks pretentious to me and I couldn't take it in heart that these two clever, intellectual and eccentric people would have aany problem to fall for each other from the get go. They were perfect from the start and that's why the pauses, the awkward stares didn't look convincing enough to me since these two are so gorgeous..and smart. I think nigeru had two awkward people [which was convincingly done by yui aragaki and hoshino gen]. It actually looked like these two would have problems ever confessing to each other. Anyway sorryy for the long rant!
Apart from that, this year I have fallen for all the odd choices, which is less romance and more family/social/mystery dramas. Which is odd cause I live for k-romcoms lol. My choices of dramas without no particular order would be avenger club, go back couple[ my fav romcom this year], girl's generation 1979, woman of dignity, strangers, black, mystery queen, age of youth 2, and goblin [does it count? :S]. And I'm sure I'm gonna love wise prison life hehe. While you were sleeping is good too, but the crime solving got a bit repetitive, which isn't bad, just I expected more from 'I hear your voice's writer. Hopefully next one will be better.

1

I think it would be interesting to list the drama's that far exceeded your expectations and those that came in much less than anticipated (after watching the first few episodes or reading the previews)

SWDBS and MQ hits the top of the disappointment list for me because I really (for one reason or another) expected it to be so much more.

In terms of disappointment I think it would be WYWS for me.. objective speaking it was a pretty decent drama overall despite some obvious holes.. but but but I expected sooooo much more!! The whole team.. the writers the actors the premise.. the hook and sink for the drama never happened for me

Guess sometimes over hyped expectations rarely deliver add a show which I would have normally enjoyed becomes a disappointment.. I would still rate it 8/10 though objectively speaking for overall entertainment

Melo holic is WTF drama for me toi but some weird reasons, I'm quite enjoying it (minus the unnecessary sex scenes by other characters that I can't think any reason it is needed.. ) It seems to me the team of this drama playfully do an experiment and don't care about the outcome. I hope the next OCN romcom will be much better.

0

Where should I start about meloholics? That drama is practically selling sex, if I'm being honest! Those forced and unnecessary make out scenes repulsed me so much that I was just menboong after watching the first two eps. One of the reasons I watch kdrama is because they don't try to hit the PR by showing make out scenes. They show perfect amount of romantic skinshipping which makes sense. My goes... My angry typing is too heavy I should stop!

It is similar to some Korean rom com movies I have taken a look at that had quite explicit sex scenes. It was weird to see actors who have appeared in regular dramas in the buff in these movies. I don’t think I’m a prude....but way too much and not in a good way.

My list would have The King Loves ❤️️ right up there. Okay, maybe below Forest of Secrets. No, it is nowhere near FOS of course and even below some others. But it's the one which introduced me to HJH 😍😍😍. I am feverish and irrational.
I will also add current drama BTLIOF to my fav list.

I didn't watch several of those on your list like Chicago Typewriter, Chief Kim, WOD, FIS and Girls' Generation.

I so agree with Ruler of the Mask and unpopular opinion, I didn't enjoy SWDBS too. I dropped it early. I'll rate Criminal Minds 2/10 below Ruler. Boring is worse than bad. At least I got some laughs out of Ruler.

Wow, I didn't even watch and/or finish 10 dramas this year. I think I finished five?
1. Because This Life is Our First (4 Episodes left, but I'm definitely going to finish it).
2. Defendant
3. Father is Strange
4. Forest of Secrets.
5. Fight for My Way

The licensing issues really impacted my drama-watching this year. I have a feeling I would have enjoyed Age of Youth 2 and Buamdong Revenge Club, but since they weren't licensed by legal sites, I'll have to wait until they show up on Netflix.

how was your week?? i’m finally done with all my exams & school in general and i’m quite pumped to finally get enough sleep. Actually, i’m migrating early next year and i’ve got mixed feelings?? on one hand i don’t particularly want to leave friends and a familiar environment and cannot be bothered to pack, but on the other hand i really want out of this stressful education system, to get a more fun / meaningful education? we’re making a trip first to get ready for next year and i’ve got to pack about 50kg in a week 😅 i’ve never migrated / moved house before so honestly other than my albums idk what else to pack / how to pack + the seasons there are different so my clothes will probably not suit the weather 😩 any packing tips / anything??

Hi @babybeast, having migrated once and moved house too many times to mention, the key to packing is to prioritise your stuff. 1) do I need this? 2) can I replace it? 3) is it cheaper to replace than to ship it over? 4) will it make me feel happy/comforted to see this in my new place? 5) (my personal favourite) don't pack any clothes that you haven't worn in the last 6 months because you'll probably never wear them again.

Good luck with the move - it won't be as scary as you think!

I've always found it an emotional roller-coaster, but that's just my personal experience. There is a really bad/stressful moment when all your stuff is in boxes and you won't be able to find anything. Then that's followed by the really good moment of unpacking those boxes in your new place, finding good spots for all your lovely belongings and making it feel like your home.

Where are you migrating from & to? It'll probably help other Beanies give you packing tips!

My personal favourite packing hack is to fold your clothes so they are long, but don't fold them in half/ thirds etc.—stack them up, and then roll them. So they kind of end up looking like a plump clothes kimbap. It saves a lot of space compared to folding your clothes normally and stacking them! Also look for those vacuum bags that are like giant ziploc bags. You squeeze the air out so it saves a lot of space when you pack clothes.

As for the type of clothes, I live in a tropical country but when I went on student exchange/ holiday, I found it helpful to pack clothes I can layer (skirts, slip dresses, shorts; I wear tights under them during fall/ winter). So they work for both hot and cold seasons.

And yes.. Sg has three most varied and yummilicious affordable cuisine of the places I have been to!

Besto with moving.. and don't worry too much.. although emotionally exhausting to moved.. You never really lose the connection with the ppl who really matter :)

Food > or < stress?

If we hit 7 million one day, I might just pack up and go. Meanwhile, I'll need to learn how to cook up a mean char kway teow and chai tow kuay.

I'm in Queenstown!
So if you don't know what to pack for Christchurch then- the winters can be very cold, and the summers very hot (but a dry hot, not a humid hot), and there will often be cloud that comes off the sea and hangs round for days making it sometimes a bit miserable.
NZ weather, as I'm sure you've heard can be rather temperamental and change 4 times in one day.
I'm not sure when you're shifting here, or what you have already. But I'd try and pack for the season you're shifting into specifically, if you can. If you can't well, definitely plan to buy a lot over here, especially if you're shifting into our Winter.
I'd say your normal clothes for SNG would be perfect for our Summer though?

Hi @babybeast :) I study overseas so it's a yearly struggle to pack my luggage haha. I'd say pack one luggage with all of your essentials: clothes you need for a week, slippers, toiletries, important documents etc. And since you're a fellow Singaporean I'd say FOOD counts as essential! Pack a few of your favourite foods haha it makes the transition a lot easier:) Good luck with packing!

I understand you are not going to lose the things you are leaving behind and that you will go back now and then or at some point, so, my piece of advice to add to the other comments:

When I have to go somewhere for several months (or years, but I come back on holidays) what I do is go through everything and select the things I want to take with me. Then after several days I go through the selected things and make a smaller group of selected things rejecting some of them, and so on until I finally have a reasonable suitcase or group of suitcases.

I am the type of person who wants to bring my whole house with me, but the more I travel and move, the less I take with me because:
- I don't end up using half of them.
- You don't want to be that person in the tube not being able to lift your own suitcase.
- I'm 100% sure I'll but something there, and when the time comes and I have to return, not matter if I have been abroad 6 months or 3 years, it won't fit in the suitcases and I will have to send sth or leave sth behind.

That said, I have my suitcase ready for my next trip full of useful things, but I also added a couple of dresses that I haven't wear yet, because they are small and light, and because I want to have the feeling I'm carrying with me sth that excites me and that maybe I'll have the opportunity of wearing them.

As usual, I wrote too much. Good luck with your packing! Travelling, buying tickets, renting a place to live... I wish I could teleport, I feel so lazy I almost don't want to go anywhere, but once I'm there I forget about that and it's totally worth it ^^

Cool another beanie who is prepping for uni 🙋 I'm almost done with my exams as well. Which subject did you choose as your major?

Anyways, I'll be moving to another district away from my chaotic family. Can't wait to start in a fresh environment surrounded by hills and sea. Although my packing won't be that much similar to yours as your migrating, but I'll just share my priorities anyways,
1. My book collection cause they're my babies.
2. my worn out tee shirts which I can't live without.
3. Packaged food which I can't access in the university area.

Suffering from comment overload in BTIOFL... sigh...

What is showing after WYWS? Anything on the "highly anticipate" list?

This year is quite odd. FoS and BTIOFL are my favorites so far and both came in under the radar. The more hyped dramas have been mostly average.

OT Week 41! Well, it finally happened. Every year. Around Thanksgiving holiday. I’m sick. I have a virus this week (no doubt from my kids), and laryngitis, and hubby is on a business trip (lucky bastard). I feel pretty good overall, but it sounds like I just ate a seal (when I do have a voice). Which should be entertaining today as I have a panel discussion that I’ll be moderating later this afternoon. Which brings me to a question. What happens to a live-filming kdrama when your lead gets something like laryngitis (and when I get laryngitis it lasts for over a week)? I just keep working, usually, but that’s probably not possible when your job is talking. I say things like, "I’m sorry, I won’t be talking a lot today, but I’ll type out everything I need you to do and if you have questions, call me back next week when I have a voice! "

Speaking of voices, how sexy was Lee Min Ki this week? Color me impressed, from comedy and comedic timing, to introspection, to silent tears, to restrained (although for his character, it may be described as unbridled) happiness, he had it all this week. And Jung- So-min was absolutely adorable as well as all our side couple actors emoting so well. Everyone stepped up their game (because they could) and I’m so excited to see the last 4 episodes! And I just realized that I’ll be in Florida with the in-laws next week, so may not be able to see these as timely as I would like. No, I’m not addicted, just very invested. HA!

And I had a fun weekend with my Free the Kimchi group. Those ladies are my life right now. I want to grow old with them. We watched Goblin episode 9 where she runs away and comes back, where he confesses (finally) his true love and intention for her and she almost dies (again). Then one of them had a fundraiser were she was involved and bought a table for all of us to attend, so we did that. Then the next day we all had a golf lesson with Chi, our halmoni who smokes us all playing golf. She’s had FOUR holes-in-one and has won more golf tournaments than I’ve played. It’s taken me a long time to find adult friends. All my childhood ones are scattered to the ends of the earth and though we still love each other, and support each other at 1 am when one of us is having an existential crisis about her career (yes, I did that this week too—maybe that’s why I’m sick), it’s not the same as having them where I can see and touch them. So I treasure these ladies. And they can cook! And you know me and food.

I don’t think I have a conversation for you all today. I’m just not feeling it. *sad face*

You all have a great week and American Beanies, have a Happy Thanksgiving! I’ll be spending it with some of the best family around and I truly hope that you are too!

My mom says it's the weather. I don't know about that but it is kinda crazy here with unusually hot and humid weather for the time of the year and torrential downpours in between. My cream cheese frosting flowed like a river and the colors streaked like lava over the cupcakes. Disastrous.

You must try it! I don't like things which are too sweet so I'm not a fan of most cream frostings. Cream cheese frosting is a different matter altogether. I like the tangy and more complex flavor to it. Unfortunately with temperatures here hitting above 85 and more in the kitchen, it's easy to end up with cream cheese soup.

I love cream cheese frosting for exactly that reason! I can't handle frosting that is too sweet and often end up just eating the cake and scraping off the frosting because it is too much. Cream cheese frosting, though... mmmmm <3

1

Aw, hope you feel better soon, Ally! Maybe it'll be over by the time Thanksgiving actually gets here. :) I'm shocked that actors don't get (noticeably) ill more often from the hectic drama filming environment. Maybe they'd have to write the illness into the story line, lol.

I (surprisingly) haven't mentioned it in the recap, but Lee Min-ki's voice gives me life. I was excited for Se-hee's narration both because of how it signified his walls crumbling down and because we got to hear more of that voice, hahaha.

Well, obviously, Gong Yoo, but also Jang Geun Suk, Won Bin, Kim Min Jae, Yeo Jin Gu, and Hong Jong Hyun. Actually, I pretty much hate everything about Jackpot, but I still rewatch the scenes where just Yeo Jin Goo and Jang Geun Suk just talk to each other. I like baritone voices the most. Then there’s Park Bo Gum. I don’t know why I like his voice. I just think it suits him. It’s not as low as I usually like. Or maybe it’s just that everything about him is charming altogether! And now, there’s Lee Min Ki. My list is growing.

2

Laryngitis you say! As a chronic patient of that and cold allergy+additional respiratory problem patient I think I might die any day because of such sweet friends. Yes I treat them as friends cause they visit me more often than my human friends do. Anyways get well soon 🙆

I have started watching Buamdong Revenge Club because of fellow beanies' recommendation and it is as good as you all say ♥ Bokja Club fighting! Because This is My First is next on deck - judging by the seemingly painful wait for eps, I am waiting to marathon when it's almost done ^^

In between dramas I've recently developed a liking for Chungmuro too. I just saw 2 movies of Lee Sun Kyun (The Advocate and King's Case Notes) and I have now become more of a fan 😍 I am impatiently waiting for his movie with my woman-crush Kim Hye Soo - I bet it's gonna be really hot. I'm thinking of watching Taxi Driver next, after I steel myself for the tears I think I will shed

Out of curiosity I checked out Stranger Things to see what it's about and I really enjoyed it. I get why it's so hyped. But I couldn't really engage emotionally with it like I do with korean dramas, maybe it's just me.

I've watched A Hard Day and yes, my love for Lee Sun Kyun is ever growing! It started with This Week. Come to think of it I think I had a discussion with you about it then in the What We're Watching Post or some other article here in DB ^^

I'm excited for My Ahjussi too. He's become one of those actors whose every work henceforth I need to watch. I saw some trailer of his upcoming movie Precious Woman with Kim Hye Soo. Just thinking about those 2 awesome actors in the same scene.. man I can't wait!

I saw King's Case Note from the watchasian website, it's the only way I can get it. It was a fun movie and a different side to LSK's acting. I'm gonna check for the other ones you mentioned :)

Happy Friday Beanies! ^‿^ It's been a while since I've been on OT because it's the end of the semester, and I'm rushing my thesis chapter to submit next week before I go for a holiday in Adelaide with my family (my fault for procrastinating on writing D: this is what happens when the deadline is one you set for yourself).

I'm still watching and enjoying 20th Century Boy & Girl with my mum. I know many find the pace slow, but I feel it's intentionally so; it's very slice-of-life in the sense that things happen, but not that much, and it's more of what the characters observe and feel and how their relationships grow slowly. The characters are all cinnamon rolls and so supportive of each other.

In December I'll be back from holiday! Still need to work on my thesis, but I'll be buddy-watching Solomon's Perjury with @raonah and hopefully either BTLIOF or Reply 1994, depending on my mood. Catch you guys then~ ^^

Barely had time to watch my dramas, let alone post on DB.

Recently, I entertained the thought of making my own kimchi but when I saw what Se Hee had to endure in BTLIOF, I chicken out. I had been unsatisfied by those sold in supermarts and couldn't get the fabulous kimchi I had when I was in Seoul out of my mind. Is there an easy but good recipe for noobs out there?

I also wonder why Koreans peel apples using knives? Here, almost everyone uses a fruit peeler. Anyway, no mother-in-law will ask you to peel an apple.

Ahb so this retired ahjumma finally decides to learn how to make kimchi?! Little late in the age to pick up na?! What if its too spicy for the sensitive
digestive capacity of your age?! 😛😝😂😁

Jokes aside.. I really want kimchi too.. Also my question is more line.. why do ppl even peel apples??! You need to just wash and eat.. most of the nutrients are right below the peel too!

With CPF withdrawal age forever pushed back, I feel like a teenager! By the way, good kimchi is expensive, the cheap ones taste like vegetables tossed in vinegar.

About apples, I wonder if the pesticides and wax negate whatever nutrients in the peel. I know a friend whose dad swore by the adage "An Apple A Day Keeps The Doctor Away" and he died of colorectal cancer. My friend believed it was due to all those apple peels.

Omg, you have no idea, it’s like a religion to me. My husband was so proud of himself the day he brought it home. Lol! Apparently, it had no price on it, so he made up one (a bargain basement price) and the shopkeeper took it. It’s about a 3 gallon sized and it’s adorable.

1

If I aren't living half the world away, I'd drop by to try your kimchi.

0

Really? Do you mean one of those things that you crank so the fruit goes around? or is it like a carrot peeler? As far as I know, in the US we just use knives to peel fruit.

If you make 100 heads of kimchi, you have to do what Sehee did. If you're just making a batch for yourself, it's no big deal. (I don't make it myself but my mom and sister do.)

0

Required fields are marked *

Yeah, probably a carrot peeler, nothing fanciful. Anyway, it does look a lot more romantic in dramas when the guy uses a knife to peel an apple for the girl. A fruit peeler would not have the same effect 😜.

I must confess I'm not very good in the kitchen. One head of cabbage is daunting enough. Maybe it's more of the steps? I should just try once and satisfy myself whether it's a success or failure.

I just made my first batch of kimchi and thought it was so straightforward compared to the kdrama version of it! The difference was that I of course only made one tupperware boxful for myself instead of a whole bathtub worth of veg. I used <1kg of leaves and that made plenty.

Plus, my mother always told me I should eat the apple peel, that it was very healthy for me. On the downside, it's probably full of pesticides these days...

A knife does 2 things, peel and cut. A peeler only does one thing :).
Korean Fuji apples are huge which basically means that chemicals are being used in the growing process.

I think most people only eat the apple's skin if it's organically grown. That's what I do too.
