Mad Dog: Episode 16 (Final)

It’s finally time to try to drag down the people truly responsible for the Flight 801 crash, but can Mad Dog ensnare everyone involved or will some of them manage to escape our team’s carefully laid trap with some smooth maneuvers of their own?

EPISODE 16: “Dr. Kim, in”

Lawyer Lee sneaks into Min-joon’s empty apartment and waits in ambush. Downstairs, Kang-woo catches up to Min-joon and urges him to join the rest of the team for a meal instead of going back to change clothes.

Kang-woo checks the security footage and sees Lawyer Lee enter the apartment upstairs. Kang-woo heads straight in and bolts the door behind him. He draws Lawyer Lee out from the shadows and says he’s now trapped inside with him.

Lawyer Lee laughs and says casually that he was only there to meet Min-joon, but Kang-woo notes both the scarf and knife in Lawyer Lee’s hands and surmises that the real reason he came was to kill Min-joon.

Kang-woo challenges Lawyer Lee to take him on instead of Min-joon, since Kang-woo is a more equal match for Lawyer Lee’s strength. Lawyer Lee wildly slashes the knife at Kang-woo as the two clash in the apartment, and eventually Lawyer Lee catches Kang-woo with a swipe to the arm.

At the restaurant, Min-joon wonders why Kang-woo still hasn’t joined them when it was his idea to get a meal together. Back in the apartment, Kang-woo and Lawyer Lee battle to gain the upper hand on each other, and eventually Lawyer Lee manages to overpower Kang-woo by choking him with the scarf.

Meanwhile, Ha-ri tries to get a hold of Kang-woo but he won’t answer. Min-joon realizes Kang-woo is up to something and rushes back to find him, with Ha-ri and Noo-ri quickly in tow.

Kang-woo manages to get out of the chokehold and quickly turns the tables on Lawyer Lee, turning his own scarf against him and choking him instead.

Min-joon and company find the security footage of Lawyer Lee entering Min-joon’s apartment and dash upstairs to intervene, but can’t get past the bolted door.

Inside, Kang-woo throttles Lawyer Lee and asks why they’re after Min-joon all of a sudden, when he himself was the original target. Lawyer Lee refuses to answer, instead urging Kang-woo to just kill him.

Will Kang-woo end up a killer?

Min-joon and gang yell through the blocked door to see if Kang-woo is okay, and Lawyer Lee promises that he’ll kill every one of them if he gets the chance. His words enrage Kang-woo, who tightens his grip on Lawyer Lee’s neck.

Min-joon notices Kang-woo’s reflection in the window and screams, “Stop! Don’t do it! You can’t become a murderer!” At his words, Kang-woo finally comes to his senses and lets go right as Lawyer Lee loses consciousness.

Noo-ri finally breaks the chain and the team rushes in to find Lawyer Lee lying motionless on the floor. Ha-ri frantically calls an ambulance as Kang-woo staggers away looking stunned.

Later, at the prison, Kang-woo meets with Chairman Cha and brings up Lawyer Lee, who survived Kang-woo’s strangulation and is now recovering in the hospital.

Kang-woo reveals that Lawyer Lee dropped a phone during the scuffle, and it turned out to belong to Go Jin-chul, the murderer Lawyer Lee killed to keep silent.

The phone contains a recording of Go Jin-chul and Hyun-gi’s business dealings, including Hyun-gi ordering him to kill Min-joon. As the team listens to the recording, Min-joon realizes that Lawyer Lee’s plan was to kill Min-joon and frame Hyun-gi for ordering the hit.

Back at the prison, Kang-woo reveals that he read their move. Chairman Cha denies his involvement, and tells Kang-woo to hand the phone over to the authorities so that Hyun-gi will be investigated.

Kang-woo wonders what would happen if he gave the cellphone to Hyun-gi instead of the prosecutors, and Chairman Cha’s eyes widen at the threat.

Kang-woo estimates that Chairman Cha must have only agreed to take the blame for everything in exchange for Hyun-gi saving Hong-joo, and Hyun-gi will second-guess his promise when he finds out Chairman Cha tried to frame him.

Chairman Cha pleads with Kang-woo not to go after Hong-joo, but Kang-woo presses forward, dismissing Chairman Cha’s attempt to appeal to Kang-woo and Hong-joo’s closeness.

Chairman Cha admits he should have killed Kang-woo two years ago when Kang-woo first started acting out. Kang-woo growls back, “Do I look like I’m alive to you?” Kang-woo leaves with a promise to make Chairman Cha feel the same pain Kang-woo felt two years ago.

Chairman Cha scrambles to make sure Hong-joo sticks close to Hyun-gi, as he is now her only lifeline, and she begrudgingly agrees.

Hong-joo heads to Hyun-gi’s office, and she admits to him that Lawyer Lee’s plan to kill Min-joon was a result of Chairman Cha trying to sabotage Hyun-gi. When Hyun-gi asks what Hong-joo wants, she reveals that she wants to take down Kang-woo and Mad Dog.

Hyun-gi promises that he will take care of them for her, but Hong-joo reveals that the documents they recently destroyed as part of their cover-up were actually fake. She guesses that Kang-woo must have the originals and replaced them with the fake documents.

Elsewhere, Manager Park meets Kang-woo and says that Hong-joo doesn’t know the documents were switched. Manager Park agrees to keep helping Kang-woo now that they’re so close to ensnaring everyone.

Back at Mad Dog HQ, the team gets their hands on the original copies of both the flight insurance contract and the flight purchase contract, and they now have all the evidence they need to take down Hyun-gi and Hong-joo together.

Min-joon notices Kang-woo is conspicuously absent, and realizes that he must be up to something on his own again.

Min-joon calls Kang-woo and asks if he plans to take all the burden on alone again, but Kang-woo says that’s not the case, and that they just need to draw attention away from themselves right now.

Min-joon doesn’t understand Kang-woo’s meaning, but just then, Manager Park arrives and briefs the rest of Mad Dog on Kang-woo’s plan. The goal is to find as many seemingly insignificant issues as they can and throw them at JH Group all together to make a large impact, and the team quickly gets to work at finding any issue they can use.

Meanwhile, Kang-woo seeks out a prosecutor. Kang-woo knows that Prosecutor Jin was after JH Group for years, until Chief Prosecutor Ohn shut down the investigation.

Kang-woo offers to give Prosecutor Jin someone who can testify that Hyun-gi was responsible for the plane crash, and Prosecutor Jin looks intrigued by the offer.

Back at home, Hyun-gi looks skeptical that the documents Mad Dog possesses could do serious damage since it would be their word against his with no way to verify who is telling the truth.

He checks the old government reports one more time and realizes that the mechanic and accountant who analyzed the viability of JH Group’s flight expansion two years ago aren’t named in the reports, so they could be potential loose ends for Mad Dog to grab onto.

The next day, Hyun-gi berates Hong-joo for her sloppy handling of the cover-up, and argues that if they really want to keep things under wraps, they’ll need to also silence the mechanic and accountant.

But since Mad Dog will already be a step ahead of them in trying to find those two, Hyun-gi suggests that they let Mad Dog find their targets.

Later, back at Taeyang, Hong-joo shows the fake airplane insurance contract to Manager Park and interrogates him about what happened to it. Manager Park plays dumb, and Hong-joo has no choice but to let him off the hook.

Manager Park texts Kang-woo right away to let him know that Hong-joo has caught on, but we learn that her showing Manager Park the document was Hyun-gi’s idea, part of his plan to ensnare Mad Dog.

Meanwhile, Hyun-gi meets with Chief Prosecutor Ohn and, surprisingly, Prosecutor Jin, who sells Kang-woo out to Hyun-gi immediately and reveals the plan to provide witnesses who can prove Hyun-gi’s responsibility for the crash.

Chief Prosecutor Ohn suggests arresting Kang-woo, but Hyun-gi insists that they wait so they can press more charges and force him to serve a longer sentence.

Later, Prosecutor Jin meets Kang-woo and urges him to bring the witness to the investigation press conference. Kang-woo questions whether he can really trust Prosecutor Jin, who assures Kang-woo that he is just doing his job as a prosecutor.

Back at Mad Dog, Manager Park leads the team’s operations and insists that he should be in charge while Kang-woo is out. Soon-jung protests but Manager Park pitifully explains his outcast position at Taeyang and Soon-jung relents out of pity.

As Min-joon and Ha-ri wait for their targets elsewhere, they join Soon-jung and Noo-ri in teasing Manager Park by affectionately referring to him as Spaniel because he always roams about busily chasing after them like a puppy.

The accountant who assessed JH Group’s finances two years ago arrives to meet Min-joon, who pretends to be interested in getting his taxes done by the accountant. The team guffaws when they hear how large Min-joon’s net worth is, much larger than they originally thought.

Min-joon convinces Accountant Lee to join him for lunch while they finish discussing his taxes, and Ha-ri scolds him for changing the plan on the fly, though Min-joon tells Ha-ri not to worry.

In a nearby restaurant, Min-joon treats Accountant Lee to what appears to be a romantic meal, and Ha-ri covertly finds a table nearby to spy on them in-person. She shoots daggers at Min-joon as he flirts with the accountant openly.

Accountant Lee excuses herself momentarily, so Min-joon walks over to Ha-ri’s table and sits down across from her. Min-joon points out that she must’ve followed him inside because she was worried about him.

Ha-ri tries to shoo Min-joon away so that he doesn’t blow his cover, but he tells Ha-ri that he’d rather sit and watch her to pass the time. “I just want to be with you for a minute,” he says, ignoring her warnings, “I just want to look at you for one minute.” He begins to stare at her intently, refusing to break eye contact.

Back at Mad Dog, Soon-jung and Noo-ri shush Manager Park from interrupting the romantic moment, and Manager Park whispers his shocked reaction to learning about Ha-ri and Min-joon’s relationship.

Watch the scene

Min-joon stares into Ha-ri’s soul for just one minute

Min-joon tells Ha-ri to look out for Accountant Lee since he’ll be so preoccupied with looking at her, and she awkwardly keeps watch while Min-joon stares at her. By the time Ha-ri spots the accountant returning, Min-joon is already on his way back to his seat, unnoticed by Ha-ri who was too nervous to look at him while he sat there.

After eating, Min-joon reveals to the accountant that he’s actually the brother of Flight 801’s co-pilot, and pleads with her to help prove that the original accounting report was the one which showed that JH Group could not afford a new flight.

Min-joon argues that people should know who was really responsible for the crash, and why his brother was painted as a murderer in their place. His words get through to Accountant Lee and she breaks down in tears.

Kang-woo, meanwhile, finds the plane’s mechanic. Hyun-gi has put a tail on Kang-woo, however, and quickly finds out that Mad Dog found both the mechanic and the accountant.

Hong-joo asks Hyun-gi what he plans to do now, and Hyun-gi answers, “They found them, so we should steal them.” Hyun-gi calls Chief Prosecutor Ohn and tells him it’s time to finish their plan.

The press conference to reveal the results of the Flight 801 reinvestigation is announced, and Min-joon and Kang-woo each confirm that their witnesses will attend.

At the press conference, Hyun-gi opens by apologizing once again, and Hong-joo joins him on stage for a deep bow. Hyun-gi also introduces Min-joon in the front row, who greets the gathered reporters.

Hyun-gi announces that Flight 801 crashed because of a faulty engine and that it was impossible for the pilot to successfully control the plane.

He reveals that the safety inspection of the plane predicted this outcome, and his secretary projects the original safety report onscreen to confirm. Hyun-gi reads the mechanic’s declaration of unsafe conditions as Min-joon marvels that Hyun-gi would reveal this information himself.

Hyun-gi announces that the mechanic who wrote the report is in attendance, and calls on him to verify the report. Kang-woo, who is watching alone in the Mad Dog office, reels as Hyun-gi steals their witness with ease.

The mechanic claims that he did report the unsafe aircraft, but Hyun-gi blames the upper officials in the government for ignoring the mechanic’s report.

With one witness successfully undermined, Hyun-gi switches to the financial report, and now presents the original document showing JH Group’s insufficient funds, which Accountant Lee verifies is what she reported two years ago.

Hong-joo notices that Mad Dog doesn’t seem upset that Hyun-gi just effectively stole their witnesses, and wonders what they must be up to instead. Just then, Min-joon rises from his seat and begins to address Hyun-gi.

At Mad Dog, Prosecutor Jin arrives with a team of prosecutors and orders Kang-woo to let them in. But Kang-woo was prepared for Prosecutor Jin’s double-cross and knew Chief Prosecutor Ohn would attempt to arrest him.

At the press conference, Min-joon plainly asks Hyun-gi who is responsible, then, for the crash, and Hyun-gi obliges by showing the insurance contract that JH Group signed with Taeyang, which he says proves that Chairman Cha and his father were the perpetrators who facilitated the creation of the new flight.

The reporters in the room stir, however, when they read the names on the document Hyun-gi is showing onscreen—it’s the real contract, the one with Hyun-gi and Hong-joo’s signatures on it.

Min-joon points this information out to Hyun-gi, who shoots an angry look at his secretary, who just glares back. Hyun-gi lies that the file onscreen is not the original.

But Min-joon asks if the aircraft purchase contract is also not the original, and signals the secretary to show the next slide containing the purchase agreement. The contract clearly shows that Hyun-gi was the one who purchased the plane.

Watch the scene

Mad Dog finally catches Hyun-gi in a lie

Hyun-gi denies its authenticity by claiming that he was on a flight on the day it was allegedly signed. But Min-joon is ready for that excuse, and introduces a former Juhan Air flight attendant to combat his denial.

Kang-woo had approached the flight attendant in a restaurant previously, where he’d convinced her to attend the press conference. Now, she reveals that she was an attendant on the flight Hyun-gi is using as an alibi, and she announces that she witnessed Hyun-gi signing that contract while on the plane.

With Hyun-gi cornered, Kang-woo messages Soon-jung to play something at the press conference. The prosecutors finally break into the office right after the message is sent, and arrest Kang-woo for his illegal activities in gathering all the evidence against Hyun-gi.

Back at the press conference, Hyun-gi tries to regain control of the situation, but the recording Kang-woo just sent starts playing in the auditorium.

The recording begins with Hong-joo’s confession about securing the falsified government reports before it continues with Hyun-gi admitting to purchasing the faulty plane, then moves on to both Hong-joo and Hyun-gi’s backroom dealings with Chief Prosecutor Ohn.

Hyun-gi and Hong-joo realize they’re doomed, and all Hyun-gi can do is softly offer an apology to Hong-joo for failing to protect her.

Ha-ri is shocked that they’re using the illegally obtained recordings, and Soon-jung reveals that Kang-woo stayed behind specifically so he could send the file himself. Min-joon sighs as he realizes that Kang-woo really will take all of the blame for Mad Dog’s activities.

As a result of Mad Dog’s investigation, Chairman Cha and Hyun-gi both receive seven years in prison for their crimes. Hong-joo receives a five-year sentence for her crimes, while Chief Prosecutor Ohn gets three years.

Kang-woo, on the other hand, gets a one-year sentence for wiretapping, and Min-joon visits him in prison to warmly request that Kang-woo join him for a drink when he gets out.

10 months later, Kang-woo leaves prison to find Professor Byeon waiting to pick him up. The team is in the middle of another operation, and they all welcome Kang-woo back over their earpieces as Professor Byeon escorts him back into action.

Min-joon takes notes as a scammer lectures a classroom full of people on how to fake a car accident to get insurance money. Ha-ri enters wearing an exceptionally short skirt and sits right next to Min-joon, who nags her for wearing such a skimpy outfit. Ha-ri just winks back at him cheekily.

The rest of the team join in on the big skirt debate, including Nurse Oh, who now joins the team regularly when she’s not working as a nurse. Soon-jung adds, “With me, as a couple.” Nurse Oh protests, and he just blows her a little kiss in the air.

Min-joon drops his pen as an excuse to cover Ha-ri’s legs with his jacket, saying that they’re so pretty that he wants to be the only one to admire them, and she giggles at his smooth comment.

Min-joon heads outside and asks where Kang-woo is, and Kang-woo answers that he’s on his way to them now. Min-joon tells Kang-woo to hurry, and affectionately calls him “hyung,” which results in a series of grins from the rest of the team.

Kang-woo returns the favor, dropping to informal speech with Min-joon as he gets the rest of the team to fill him in on their case. Soon-jung tells Min-joon to get back in the game, and Min-joon responds, “Dr. Kim, in,” as Mad Dog begins their next operation as a now fully formed team.

COMMENTS

Yay, they’re all working together as a team now! And even Nurse Oh and Professor Byeon are getting involved more! It’s a happy note to leave the series on, and I can only imagine how well their schemes will work now that they’re all on the same page and willing to trust in each other. Their final plot to corner Hyun-gi went about as smoothly as anyone could have hoped for, and though I unabashedly love Hyun-gi as a character, his comeuppance was satisfying to watch in the end.

I’m a little bit disappointed at how muted the whole affair was, though. Mad Dog spent all of this time setting up their elaborate trap and the end result was a simple switching of the press conference materials to incriminate Hong-joo and Hyun-gi. It really lacked the panache I was expecting, and diminished the payoff slightly that there wasn’t some big, unknown twist that changed everything. We already knew Hyun-gi’s secretary was collaborating with Mad Dog, so there was no real surprise when he became the key to ruining Hyun-gi.

It’s just a shame that the solution was so simple. When you consider how much the main conflict revolved around each party reading the other side’s moves correctly and plotting around them, Hyun-gi falling because he trusted one person is a disappointment. He was so on top of everything throughout the series and even read Mad Dog’s final plan for the most part, but failed to account for one variable and it brought everything crashing down.

Still, Mad Dog was a decently fun ride along the way thanks to its smartly written villains, who all felt like they were reasonable opponents for Kang-woo and company to match wits with. Their motives are maybe a bit too nebulous if you look too closely at them (I still have no real sense of what Taeyang stood to gain from taking such an active role in the conspiracy), but if you don’t squint too hard it’s not glaring enough to be a massive hindrance to your enjoyment.

For me, Mad Dog’s core competency is the relationships of the team members themselves. There were a ton of cute moments throughout, not only from Min-joon and Ha-ri’s budding romance, but also neat little touches like Soon-jung and Noo-ri’s extremely close bond, or Kang-woo and Min-joon’s escalating competition to selflessly sacrifice themselves more than the other person. Plus they packed in enough detail with the characters on the periphery like Nurse Oh and Manager Park that it felt like there was an abundance of warmth around everyone on the team.

So now that Min-joon successfully absolved his brother and helped Kang-woo get justice for his family, I’m glad they all stuck together and even kept working with their leader in prison for a year. It shows, really, how much Min-joon grew over the course of the series, that he went from grouchy con man who refuses to trust anyone to a fully integrated team member in the end. His heartwarming referral to Kang-woo as “hyung” left me sharing the same dopey smile the rest of the team expressed when they heard it. It goes to show that even with all the corruption out there in the world, you can find hope in the support of a solid group of friends who will back you through thick and thin.

You know, this show wasn't perfect, and some of the plot holes are still jumping up in down in lime green leotards right in front of me, but if I turn then there's all our sweet characters, and cast chemistry and lines with the word 'hyung' in them, and that gorgeously tension filled restaurant scene that will have to do for my confession since a) the show's ended and b) t'would've been a mite out of character to have anything more between those two.
I wouldn't have been complaining if there had been more ofc, but this feels very in sync with the rest of the show.

Lime green leotards aside, I had a lot of fun watching and reacting with Beanies to this show, and thank you for the recaps!

I'm just glad that none of the team members died. Even though the entire series was focused on one case it wasn't boring. I enjoyed all the characters and villains especially hyun ki.. I loved him in I remember you and kill me heal me...as for ha ri and min joon. ..I wasn't expecting much..since the entire show they were just playfully flirting. ..but I am satisfied with their arc..finally min joon called kang woo hyung. ..I didn't know one simple word could bring me such happiness. ..all in all it was a good show...and I hope to see them in the future soon

Despite the ending of Lookout, if you can handle it, I'd highly recommend watching it. The character writing is really good, and it's heartbreaking in all the right ways. One of my favourite character arcs from this year.

Oh he IS one of mine, possibly of all time, and I whilst I don't think I'll ever be over over the ending, I think writing so much on it when it ended helped me close that door.

6

"I'm just glad that none of the team members died."
When the entire team was sitting in a restaurant, I think in ep 15, and Kang Woo was the only one not in black, I suddenly got very convinced he was going to die and it was an omen of how they'd all be in mourning soon. Thankfully that is not what happened, although in some way, I think I might actually have liked that ending better? *gosh look at the cynic rearing its head again*

I waited 16 episodes for Min Joon to call Kang Woo "hyung" and it was so satisfying to hear *celebratory dance*

This wasn't the most unique show but the character interactions completely blew me away. In every scene, it was easy to see just how much they all cared about each other and the lengths they'd go to protect their families. Because in actuality, Mad Dog is the only family they really have. The only thing I would've wanted from the show is the case per week. It was fun seeing them infiltrate businesses to crack down on insurance scammers. Its a shame we didn't get to see more of that. Anyways, it was a great rite and congrats to Mad Dog for being #1 in their time slot.

Mad Dog out✌

I do enjoy the journey. One of the most watchable drama of the year.

I would say, "he just want to look at her face" is definitely not entirely just literally look at her face though. To me, that scene is more like a silent and subtle confession, he just want to look at her, which means, he's hers kind of thing.. haha.
And i find his action is more sweet because before that, the 3 boys were saying how that lady is blushing whenever Min Joon look at her, and Ha Ri grumble over that. So the next thing Min Joon do is, sit there and just look at Ha Ri.. :)

It was a more subtle confession but it was still there, and was actually kinda of beautifully done, with very little dialogue, and that was cool.

It was definitely a subtle but cool confession. I mean they were in the middle of a mission and he said it knowing full well that the others were listening to the conversation, so he pretty much openly admitted that he only had eyes for her. I think from the very beginning, Minjoon has always been observant to Hari because he always reads her expressions well. She's the one that actually didn't notice because he kept confusing her with his stupid push and pull tactic.

Thank you for recapping this very nice korean drama dramabeans! Since episode 1 i was already a fan. Truth be told i am not still over from Yoo Ji-Tae's(Kang-Woo) last drama THE PERFECT WIFE which i kinda saw him as somehow an antahonist to the female lead in that drama aside from being his wife in the story. XD

to the villains of mad dog:
Why did all of the villains only get short prison sentences?! I wanted their prison sentences like to be 50 years and above! Or even a LIFE IMPRISONMENT! LOOOOOL!

Serves you right Hong-Joo! To be honest at first i like Hong-Joo's character when she was still nice but man i am really disgusted by her personality after her revelation that she knew everything from the start!

Min-Joon & Ha-Ri:
OH MY GAD I almost thought they would kiss!
-bangs head into my pc table-
BUT NO HE JUST TEASED HER BACK is she took a bath/shower! UGHHHH
THE LOVE/ROMANCE TENSION XD
But i still wish min-joon will just god damn admit his feelings! Come on man!

I would love a season 2 just because technically the Mad dog team have only just started. The ending was pretty much the beginning for them.

Perhaps in Season 2 they can work on lots if suspicious small cases which leads to some huge conspiracy. That's what I thought the show was going to do in the beginning, instead of just focusing on the plane accident.

And of course with season 2, more focus on the relationship side of things. *coughMinjoonxHaricough* of course we need all the cast of mad dog team to stay in their roles, including Nurse Oh, Professor Byun, Spaniel Moo Shin and maybe Minjoon can adopt Secretary Han as well.

It's hard to come by shows that leave me entirely satisfied these days. But I'm so glad Mad Dog was one of them. I came on board for Woo Do Hwan after seeing him practically shine in Save Me. As much as I loved him here, I'm glad that I also stayed for the Mad Dog team. The familial relationship (aside from Ha ri and Min Joon...*ok fine* *I'm satisfied with how they ended this too* *just wish there had been a teensy bit more*) they had with one another was heartwarming and seeing them grow as people and as a team was what made them capable of getting that end result they wanted (namely, putting the villains in prison).
They team had great chemistry with each other and I'm happy to see them continue doing what they do best.
And that last 'hyung' from Min joo was all I wanted since episode one. ❤❤ I got my cake, and ate it too. It was a satisfying finale and I'll always remember it with a fond memory.

I had two places I could put this or similar to this in- one was episode 15 after that talk in his back office, and one was after the restaurant scene. We're going with the latter cos it fits a bit better, seeing as how he basically confessed without confessing to her then.
The problem is when I write dialogue for Korean stories in my head, half of it is in Korean and half of it is in English but I'll try not to do that too much here except for horrible Romanization

Min Joon stepped out of the restaurant into the cool night air. Tonight's mission was accomplished, and he reasoned now he could take out his earpiece and not get barked at by Team-jang-nim. Especially when…
He tilted his head and smirked.
Jang Ha Ri-ssi stood two doors down wrapped up, arms crossed, leaning on her car, looking everywhere but at the restaurant door.
He walked up to her, and past her.
‘Shall we go?’
She jolted out of her intense stare at the rusted drainage grate at her feet.
‘Go where? The car is-‘
‘For a walk’ he turned stopped and turned to face her
‘At this time of night?… You’re crazy’
‘I want to clear my head a bit. It’s been a long day.’
She stared at him for a second.
‘I’m coming with you.’
‘No—at this time of night?’ He parroted ‘you’re crazy.’
‘and you might be dead if you go alone… again’
He cocked his head in assent at that one.

They walked in silence. He didn’t know where they were going; he just didn’t want to go back to the apartment yet. He wanted to spend the most time he could with her, alone. She was still avoiding his gaze though, had been since the restaurant. But that just meant he could look at her uninhibited. The cold was biting her cheeks and nose, blushing them pink. She would purse her lips ever so slightly every few seconds, like she wanted to say something. He smiled. And waited.

It was another five minutes before she said anything. They’d reached a park by that time, and the trees closed in overhead, giving them shelter from the wind, and more privacy.

‘Kim Bak-sa…’

‘Ne, Jang Ha Ri ssi.’
She stopped. He stopped in front of her, hands clasped behind his back, face curious.

‘I have something to say’

He bit back a sarcastic retort
‘Yes?’
‘Truthfully?...’ she paused, and sighed and took a deep breath. She couldn’t find the right words.

‘… I do want more.
But…
but you won’t let me.
You… ‘

Her forehead crinkled, and she looked perplexed, ruffled, unsure.

‘Why would you push me away yesterday…
but today say you only want to look at me??’
‘Have you ever thought… maybe you’re not the only one who’s afraid, Kim Bak Sa?’

*insert long silence and staring competition for like the fifth time today here* *nobody moves*
She laughed ruefully and collected herself.
Shaking her head turned and started to walk away.

*Min Joon breaks out of his staring reverie* *No, wait… he thinks*

‘Jang Ha Ri-ssi~’
He caught her arm and spun her back to him, ending with his hands on her waist, surprising both of them with the sudden proximity

*silence and shocked faces* *sexual tension increases* *permission to swoon is granted*

‘Well…‘
She cut him off.
‘If you crack a joke now, to alleviate the situation, I will slap you so hard, that when you go down you will stay down’
She scowled up at him but she didn’t move from his arms.
A small bark of laughter escaped, and he grinned down at her before becoming serious.

‘Ani-ya…
I was going to say…
I am afraid… and that I never want to intentionally, or unintentionally hurt you ever again.
but…’
His fingers tucked a wayward strand of hair behind her ear.

‘if you’ll let me… I think… I would like to spend…’ he paused and looked up at the sky and exhaled,
‘a loooong time uncovering everything there is to know about you’

*throwback to the push you against the wall dialogue*

She blinked at him, with those big, startled eyes.
The silence was quite deafening.
He tried again.

‘Aisssh -I like you!
Will you … date me?! Is that what someone is supposed to say in these situations?’

Heat crept into his face, and he started to pull back when there was a soft chuckle and she stepped even closer. His breath caught. Like it did every time. But this time it might’ve showed outwardly a bit more.

‘Must you go in such a complex roundabout way to get to everything, Kim Bak Sa?’

Ha Ri looked at him now, and didn’t break eye contact.

‘Old habits die hard, I’m afraid’

She slid a hand up into his hair.

‘I’m still not sure why I put up with you.’

She dropped her hand again No, he thought, don’t stop, don’t let me stop you again and leant back
He slipped his hands around her waist, tighter this time, and drew her to him.
He bent his head, leaning in to kiss her.

*everyone in the audience dies and comes back again*

Her body fit perfectly against his.
And then her arms came up again, and he could feel her eyelashes close against his cheek and her hand curled into the hair at the nape of his neck and she deepened the kiss.

His hands slid up her back, roaming and they both stumbled back a step to find their balance.
But they didn’t break contact.

*camera zooms out to show us the setting* *there’s like one light to illuminate it* *no fairy lights for these guys* *that’s way too rom com-y* *this was hard to write* *I hope you like it* *I feel like I could do better* *oh well* *kay bye*

I just read that again. I think it's going to be this week's before bedtime read lol. You should post your fanfics on a site or something.

4

Ahhhhhh ahaha @letseatcookies, I appreciate the feedback, but 아니!!! I couldn't... I actually have a stigma against fanfic for the most part... it's complicated (essay worthy even haha my thoughts on fanfic) but I always feel guilty when I indulge in it (writing or reading), and I'd much rather write my own stories and characters, that's much more fun and authentic for me anyway haha.
But if it gets a smile out of you guys, and a bit of a laugh, I don't mind doing this^^
I'd never have written this if @innasalvatore hadn't shared my other one on a previous thread haha.
I just thought it'd be a nice send off to MD and you guys would enjoy it ... :)
sorryyyy *hope I didn't burst your bubble haha*

I am glad I waited until the last episode aired and then finishing the drama in in 24 hours. It was a clean plot with few mistakes. I will turn a blind eye to the bland press conference cause at least the show gave min joon a "hyung" at the end. Thanks KBS for casting Woo Do-Hwan as Min Joon. Dramaland just got another wonderful actor. I must say for his first major role he did a wonderful job.

I, too, spotted Woo Do-hwan in SWEET STRANGER AND ME. His screen presence caught my eye in a small role as enforcer Kim Wan-shik, which he made the most of. Like Min-joon, it also involved brotherhood and loyalty with the lead (played by Kim Young-kwang, who later turned in a stunning performance as Prosecutor Jang Do-han in LOOKOUT). He held his own in scenes with the much taller Ko Nan-gil, just as he has done with Yoo Ji-tae's Kang-woo and Choi Won-young's Hyun-gi.

I'd like to commend him on giving German the old college try. His final "Du Schwein, i' bringe Dir um" ["You pig, I'll kill you!"] came through loud and clear. Yay! ;-)

For all the fangirls and fanboys who feel deprived of a smooch with Ha-ri, just imagine the two of them back at that fancy restaurant with him quietly gazing at her across the table.

She calmly gazes back at him and whispers, "Ich liebe Dich."

He drops his fork.

Haha Bitte right back at you!
I thought about trying to put German into mine, but honestly, juggling two languages, one very poorly and only romanized was enough! hahaha
And well, if I let myself, I could conjure scenes between these two all day, but I won't :P
Hahaha I can see her doing that too... 'Oh did I not say it right, hmmm let me see' :P

First of all I would like to thank myself for not dropping this drama at ep 3 when I was about 99% close to dropping this , second woo dohwan since he was the reason I didn't drop this drama 😂😂
Tbh I was expecting a lot more action and twists and turns then just talks but as long as none of our puppies die it's ok. I felt so bad for hyungi when he said sorry to hongjoo , the boy really liked her, AND NO KISS SCENE? Writernim? 😭 so are they dating or not dating? At least show us they are dating 😭. I wish there is season 2 of mad dog :( I can't get over the fact that I have nothing to look forward to on wed Thursday :(
Anyway overall I loved my drama, the family dynamics part was the best thing in show, how minjoon got closer to mad dog team , how noori accepted him as his brother and said mad dog won't stay still in case something happened to their kim baksa. Minjoon calling kangwoo hyung in the end and him calling minjoon ah 😭 all the feels right in the heart!
Woo dohwan has really got himself some new fans lol, I really looking forward to seeing him in new drama PLEASE ROM COM thought I really not a big fan of rom com but as long as it is not cheesy romance I can watch it. Aww.. i'm sad it's over. Despite everything, this is still such an awesome drama and baddass in it's own way. Definitely going to miss the Mad Dog family! Love how Nurse Oh become their family too. Such an awesome lady!

Yoo Jitae and Woo Dohwan chemistry is amazing! From their intense confrontation at the beginning of the series until such a sweet moments and conversations.. totally awwwww when Min Joon call him hyung at the end. Love how Min Joon can make Kang Woo come back to his sense.

Min Joo and Ha Ri, even without a kiss (sobbb) or even much skinship, these two always on fire whenever they're together. The restaurant-confession scene, it was sizzling hot. We see Min Joon always teasing Ha Ri the entire time, but dang, when he want to get serious, he is SERIOUS! Even Ha Ri is struggling to keep cool with that such intense gaze. Such a hot moment!

Thank you for your recap and comments, Regals! I appreciate the interpretations and insights that you and TeriYaki have been serving up week after week for MAD DOG. It has been an intense and enjoyable ride. And thanks to all the Beanies whose comments added to the fun and understanding. ;-)

I'm feeling a bit subdued. Maybe it's because I'm breathing a sigh of relief that Kang-woo turned the tables on Lawyer Lee without losing his soul in the process, and all of the Mad Dogs lived to fight another day. When I think how many people were bumped off by Lee and hitman Ko Jin-chul, there were some close calls.

After all the press conferences that wrong, it was about time that the final one succeeded, despite Huyn-gi's co-opting Mad Dog's witnesses. The best part for me was seeing Secretary Han stick it to his boss. YESSS! If the Dogs hadn't had an inside man at Juhan Air, I suspect it would have been difficult for them to get access to the crew roster for that flight to Mexico that Hyun-gi was on when he signed the incriminating contract.

Hong-joo turned out to be such a baddie after all. She did a great job covering her tracks, and fooled me but good.

The theme of belonging and teamwork that was so integral to MAD DOG developed organically, and was one of the high points of the show for me. Loners and misfits finding genuine brotherhood and a sense of purpose are hallmarks of the show that I particularly appreciated.

Well done, cast and crew! Well done, MAD DOG!

I became a fan of Woo Dohwan through this drama so I watched his previous drama, Save Me. His character there, Seok Dongcheol, is very different from Kim Minjoon. Especially the way he delivers his lines, since he's using satoori in Save Me. I'm excited to see what kind of character he's going to portray next. Boy's got so much potential. I hope he stars in a new drama again very soon.

And if there's anyone here who's checking out this recap trying to decide if this drama is worth watching, yes it is. Very recommendable.

It's amazing how the writer managed to make this show not boring and not dragging even if they focused on only one case. Every episode had a significant, intense moment.

I'll also miss Yu Jitae, and my favorite villain, Ju Hyungi.

I've been reconsidering that the final press conference, which is kind of anticlimactic, is actually totally apropos. Think about all the stakeouts, all the plodding footwork, all the paper-pushing and time-consuming research that the Mad Dogs wade through in conducting their investigations. It's boring and mundane, but it's how you catch crooks. You dig up every bit of evidence you can, including witnesses.

Just like Secretary Han, the flight attendant who served Hyun-gi on that trip to Mexico was invisible because she was only a servant. She was beneath his notice. But she was still a witness. It was satisfying to see the autocratic perpetrators finally hoist by their own petard -- courtesy of an Everyman representative of all the commoners in the story who were run over roughshod.

With all the chemistry Jang Ha ri and Kim Min Joon had, one would expect a smoldering kiss to seal the deal between potential lovers. So I confess to being a tad disappointed.

But I guess, since the focus was always on the ensemble cast, to being satisfied with the “hyung” statement from Min Joon and the emphasis on continued work as a team as an ending scene to this wonderful drama.

One more bromantic interlude for the road:

Noo-ri and Cheetah sit in a car watching for their target at a 24-hour convenience store. Cheetah's at the wheel. They are radio silent. Noo-ri has his laptop, and types away. A disembodied voice speaks, and they repeat the phrases.

Their target shows up late at night on the second day, just after they've high-fived. They quickly apprehend him.

After a long and tiring stakeout, they descend on Min-joon's abode. Kim Baksa groggily answers the door. He sniffs.

"Don't even think about it until you've hit the shower!"

Later, Noo-ri and Cheetah crash in a dogpile, cozily flanking Min-joon. Miraculously, the human chainsaw no longer snores after successful surgery for a deviated septum at Nurse Oh's adamant insistence.

Later, sunlight streams in through a window, and Cheetah stirs. He nudges Min-joon, who opens one bleary eye.

"Wach auf, Brüderchen!" ["Wake up, little brother!"]

Noo-ri rolls over and says, "Guten Morgen, großer Bruder" ["Good morning, big brother."]

Surprised, Jan Gebauer smiles sweetly and replies, "Nein, Danke." ["No, thank you."]

He pulls the cheetah-print blanket over his head and goes back to sleep. The others look at each other, shrug, and roll over.

Better to let sleeping dogs lie.

Later, Kang-woo quietly lets himself in and puts on a pot of coffee in the kitchen.

My Dad used to play Marlene Dietrich records when I was little, and from a young age I loved the sound of the language. I had to wait until high school to start learning it. I studied in Hamburg for a semester after getting my translating degree. But that was many moons ago, and I've grown quite rusty. Still love the language.

Where do you hail from back in the old country?

BTW, check out DER YALU FLIESST (aka AMNOK RIVER FLOWS) if you'd like a fascinating peek at Korean Confucian scholar Lee Mi-reuk and his influence on postwar Germany. His translation of Lao Tse provided ethical support to the White Rose. When I studied German in high school, our text books had the story of Hans and Sophie Scholl, so I was really touched to see the connection with Korea.

Tschüß!
(I finally realized that this is Hamburger aegyo!)

@ Sicarius December 6, 2017 at 11:59 AM

Aloha, Sicarius!

Boy, did I ever misunderstand you when you asked if I'm German myself (which to me implied that you are, too!). That's why I wrote in German. Duh!! So you're actually Pākehā with Celtic ancestors in Aotearoa. Mine are mostly Irish with a few Scots, some of whom came by way of New Brunswick, Canada. On my Dad's side, the Irish are from the south-southeast coast -- viking territory. (That may account for the family predilection for German, not to mention feeling so at home in Hamburg).

I knew I could never get the hang of French phonemes. A few of the umlauts are a a bit of a challenge, but the most difficult part was learning to roll my Rs -- which was well nigh impossible when I had braces. My rolling of R is still not that great, but I've gotten good with various umlauts. ;-)

AMNOK RIVER FLOWS is a Kdrama based on Lee Mi-reuk's autobiographical novel. I found it on YouTube, but that may have been the German language one.

Laters. ;-)

0

Kia Ora!!!! :)
With the help of your dictionary site and the fact that German is close to English and actually reading what you are in another thread after I replied to this on initially I was able to understand that!!! Yay!
I am a Kiwi, Yes!

Ahh that's so cool! And so awesome that you pursued that so young.
Surprisingly I've always struggled with German pronunciation and I don't know why. Why German was hard but my French was good (I studied it in High School but haven't touched it in 5 years, so yes, I'm rusty also), and now people say that my Korean pronunciation is good as well! And I find Finnish (one of my top languages I want to learn) easier to pronounce as well! But German? Nein. It always slips out of my grasp.

"The old country" hehehe
Well, if I was from an older Maori tribe I'd say "we were here seven hundred years ago, and before that Polynesia, and then before that it is assumed Malaysia and the other coastal SE Asian states"
But I'm not even 0.00001% Maori so I can't say that.
My dad's side is primarily Scottish, then Welsh and Irish.
My mother's side hails from Jersey Island specifically, and England and Wales, and a smidgen of Irish.
So just your typical British Colony Mongrel.
Although apparently farther back we have some Italian in us as well! So that's pretty cool.

Ahhh awesome!! Will try and bookmark that to read at some point, sounds super interesting but I have NO time at the moment haha

(Hamburger Aegyo hahahahaha)

Dang, it's hard to say goodbye to the memorable MAD DOG crew.

The casting was terrific. Aside from Jung Bo-suk, Kim Hye-sung, Jang Hyuk-jin, Kim In-hwan, Lee Joon-hyuk, the guy who plays Noo-ri's father (who is not listed in the cast for some strange reason), and Woo Do-hwan, I'd never seen any of the other actors before. What a great introduction to Yoo Ji-tae, Choi Won-young, and actresses Ryu Hwa-young, Hong Soo-hyun and Baek Jiwon. The many minor roles were also performed well by a solid ensemble cast.

The OST consists of only two pieces, but they are both wonderful and evocative.

Many thanks to Writer-nim for keeping the action going and providing the Mad Dogs with crafty, worthy adversaries who never gave up. The plot was as crooked as a dog's hind leg, and kept me guessing, not only about events, but the true colors of the characters.

Thank you to the cast and crew for a compelling mystery thriller with just the right hint of romance. Manseh!

I watched EX-GIRLFRIEND CLUB quite a while back. Didn't know Ryu Hwa-young was in it. (I used to faithfully look up the entire cast of a drama on AsianWiki before it started, but haven't been able to keep up with so many shows, so that fell by the wayside.) Thanks for the tipoff. I really enjoyed that show. ;-)

Thanks for that hot tip. I was already up to my eyeballs in shows when it ran. I'll take a gander as I really liked Ryu Hwa-young's performance, especially in the opening episodes. ;-)

It took me a long time to figure out what felt off to me about these last eps, but does anyone else feel like Kang Woo's and Min Joon's arcs this week should have been flipped? All season Min Joon was the one who never cared about his own life or what other people thought of him, and certainly wasn't used to people caring about what happened to him. I was expecting him to be the one to struggle with morally grey things like killing psycho-lawyer and even going to prison just to make sure all of their crimes were out in the open. What I loved about Min Joon in the beginning is that he was the only one able to get things done because he didn't care what it took to reach a goal, and actually came off as more of a villain than a hero. So I thought it was weird when suddenly Kang Woo was the one off the rails and Min Joon was suddenly the moral compass.

I've been reading the comments, but I guess I'm the only one who thought this way. I guess it's supposed to be a sign of how much he's changed, but idk maybe it just happened too fast and I liked morally grey Min Joon too much...

I think... now, I haven't really read too much into the whole thing at all *unusual for me but that's just how I enjoyed the show more*
... but I think perhaps it's supposed to be flipped? You have that scene in the 15th episode, where MJ thinks he's like Hyun Ki, and Ha Ri assures him he's not, not totally anyway.
And you have several instances throughout the show, where MJ is slowly becoming more human, and less maycare about things, and slowly caring FOR people too. In a sense, Mad Dog pulls back him back to his humanity. That's his character arc. (I mean, I liked anti hero MJ as well) but I think that's what they were trying to do with him.

Kang Woo- hmm, I have less reasoning for this, but perhaps he's just sick of it all- sick of this guy trying to kill his team, sick of this guy getting in the way of their plans when they're so close, sick of this guys lack of care for human life etc, and he just snaps?
I don't have any proof that that's what the writer intended but that could be one reason. To be honest I always felt the overreactions from him about killing people a bit out of place in general, so I can totally see how this would feel off.

Re. Prison: Isn't it poetic this way though, that Min Joon would've been the one more likely to throw himself under the bus, but Kang Woo takes the fall for his team, because they're the people he cares about the most? I mean, all show long he's asked himself, maybe alone is better, if I do this alone, no one will get hurt, but his team has stuck by him. Thus, him taking the blame for everything there, didn't surprise me so much. It tied up all the loose ends of MD's illegal doings- KW takes the blame for it all, spends a year in prison, and when he gets out everyone can start clean.

A few episodes in, we had wild speculations as to the cause of the crash, which made us feel intrigued and excited. As it turned out the cause was faulty engines after all, so yeah it felt rather muted and low-key.

But, as we're in this for the interactions and chemistry of the characters, especially the Mad Dog members, I felt satisfied at the end. The Show delivered in that aspect.

Love all the Kangwoo - Minjoon, Minjoon - Hari, Soonjung - Noori, Minjoon - Noori, Soonjung - Nurse Oh, and Hyungi - Hongjoo moments. Even I liked Manager Park and Secretary Han. We didn't get a Kangwoo - Minjoon hug, but at least we had a Minjoon - Noori bed scene.

Thank you TeriYaki and Regals for the great recaps, and thank you Beanies for sharing the show with me.

I've been lurking in dramabeans for years actually. Never really thought to join or make an account but the mad dog couple changed that. I think my first proper drama was back in 2005 my name is Kim Sam soon or full house. Basically it spiralled out of control from there and now I'm stuck in an eternal vortex of the drama world and reality

Welcome to the club but it doesn't make who started earlier, we're all in this together hahahaha

1

I know I'm super duper late for this (as per usual lol), but something just suddenly hit me...

Am I the only one who's a tad frustrated that we never got any explanation for why Ha Ri quit her job at Taeyang? I mean, it's not like Kang Woo originally left because he thought it was a bad company or anything, so why would she suddenly have quit a well-paying job just like that?
And what about Noo Ri? How did he and Kang Woo meet? And Cheetah? They kept acting like the owed KW their lives, but I couldn't figure out why. And what was up with Cheetah in general? Why did he suddenly decide to quit gangster-ing and be a nurse instead?
Maybe I just missed out on a bunch of clues or dialogue or something, but I don't think we ever got any explanations for how the team came together?

Well you wouldn't be if I wasn't trying my hardest to ignore ALL THE PLOT holes, because once I get started I literally won't stop and then I'll be confused as to why I liked the show at all hahahaha
Maybe she's just fiercly loyal to Kang Woo and only Kang Woo?
ALTHOUGH OK YES, I'll rant with you about Noo Ri cos I really did want more to his story and how KW met Pentium and why Pentium owes KW. I'm guessing it might have something to do with escaping a mental hospital way back but that is ONLY a guess.
I think Cheetah's was explained? Something to do with his ex ripping him off for money and KW bailing him out, and then whenever KW needed him he'd call him, till he became a permanent member when KW left Taeyang.
That was in an earlier episode? I also think he's always wanted to be nurse? But I'm not sure about the last bit or why he couldn't just become a nurse. Anyway I'm going for a swim bbs

I don't think I've been invested enough in this show to excuse its plot holes lol.
Yeah I think she is, but it still feels like an odd move especially since we didn't get any sort of hint about her motives.
Noo Ri was just so underwritten, yet could've been a really interesting character. He was more of a plot device than anything else. That'd be my guess too, but then we'll never know and that sorta bugs me.
IT was? Ahh okay, I must have zoned out during that part or just forgotten it lol!

Hahahaha I don't think I'm excusing them, I just decided from like episode 2 that I wasn't watching this for the plot and probably would never be, and so there were plenty of shaken heads throughout at absurd plot choices.
Yeah, I think you're just supposed to assume that that's what it was, but that's just weak to be honest. :/
Noo Ri was very underwritten- actually- several of them were. Unfortunately time and time again the character stories were sort of sacrificed for the sake of conflict and plot and that was annoying, since this shows strongest aspect was actually it's characters.
Hahahaha yeah, his was the first background that revealed. And his was the only one done in detail, with flashbacks and all.
I think it was maybe intended that we got that for each of the crew? But then, that probably just got pulled out of the script.
Actually now that you mention it, I would've liked to see some more of MJ's childhood roughing it in Germany.

Oh, sorry, I meant ignore, not excuse ^^
" actually- several of them were. Unfortunately time and time again the character stories were sort of sacrificed for the sake of conflict and plot and that was annoying, since this shows strongest aspect was actually it's characters." THIS!! So much.
Ikr, I kept wishing for some MJ flashback and OMG this reminds me!!! One of my biggest issues throughout was actually that a) we never really got to see that and b) WHAT IS UP WITH THAT ORPHANAGE? They kept hinting at things and how his hyung was probably sent back there or smth by those family members and how him and the insurance lady who died and the woman with the kid all grew up together, but somehow it felt like it wasn't really a necessary part of the plot? At all?
I just... Ugh I dunno, I really wanted some more stuff from MJ and hyung's childhood/teenhood and why they were at the orphanage and why they were seperated and I wanted the orphanage stuff to actually matter in the plot, but I feel like I got none of that and I think that's when I really started to lose interest, when I realized none of that was happening?

Isn't it a perfect excuse to have a Season 2 to cover all these plot holes? Drama gods listen to my wishes and bring back the Mad Dog gang.

I dunno... I don't think there's enough plot left for a season 2, especially since most of the untold stories are backstories and that means the cast would possibly be different (as in young MJ instead of Woo Do Hwan MJ). The writers struggled enough keeping just these 16 eps afloat, a second season wold be too much to ask of them imo lol.

I personally think I would like to see them work on lots of different cases together which leads to a giant conspiracy at the end. I think this season was so focused on the plane crash that it seemed like there wasn't much to talk about.

tbh as long as the whole Mad Dog cast are together I don't mind.

1

@kaybee Yeah same...hence Season 2 can do that now LOL. Can you tell I'm desperate for this cast to be together again?

1

I am even later to this but I too liked this drama so much ( the mad dog team , min joon and ha ri , I think I even ship Joo HyunGi and Hong Joo Haha ) that I didn't bother to analyze all the things I didn't understand, i.e:

- how the mad dog team formed ( I think maybe ha ri left after the go jin chul case / death of their colleague Jae soo. Also, during the case, I think Kang Woo went to the back of a shop to ask Pentium to perform an illegal search for him, though it wasn't explained why Pentium does such things for Kang Woo, like the professor, or the cop. Why Cheetah couldn't be a nurse: I think he walked out of an interview to help Kang Woo and it was kind of implied during the interview that he was facing prejudice cause of his past and gender, but later on he managed to get jobs as a nurse easily whenever he was infiltrating hospitals🤔 )
- Why would Taeyang / JH Air have a serial murderer-cum-insurance fraudster like go jin chul ( the man who kills his girlfriends for insurance) on retainer such that he was ordered to kill kim min joon & the insurance planner in the centre of all the flawed insurance policies Ms Lee? ( it was also not explained what was Ms Lee's motivation was faking/ altering insurance policies )
- as you pointed out, what was the connection with Kim Beom Joon , The insurance planner and the dead scientist's wife and their insurance policies being dated on the same day ?? Also why couldn't kim min joon stay in the orphanage with his elder brother - there was a scene earlier when it looked like his elder brother was leaving the orphanage and a young kim min joon was crying because he wanted to go with him. But somehow kim min joon got adopted by German nationals and kim beom joon went back to a orphanage where he grew up with the two girls??
- Also, even though the plane was faulty, they still couldn't have known that the plane would have crashed on that particularly day. It just so happens that the pilot had an insurance policy that could be faked to suggest that he crashed the plane in a suicide attempt. Does this mean that every pilot rostered on that flight would have to have an insurance policy that they could fake to take the rap for an incident
- what did chief on ( then only a prosecutor ) stand to gain by ordering the ministry of land and transport to increase the flight routes ? Logically, only an airline would stand to gain from increased flight routes without buying a new plane cause of profit . But here it seems like the prosecution and an insurance company have vested interest in this. Even if it was explained that for aircraft insurance it is re-insured through foreign companies and Taeyang only pays 5mil out of the 200mil in payouts due to the crash, why would an insurance company even want to pay 5mil like what would it stand to gain by a plane crashing ??

Lastly what I don't understand is why they couldn't let min joon and ha ri have like one kiss

I had many of those thoughts as well. It's a shame the writer couldn't keep up with her own plot. If the plane crash had been dealt with differently and they'd spent more time on backstories or perhaps smaller, individual cases, as letseatcookies suggested above, then a lot of the plot holes and inconsistencies could've been avoided.

I actually didn't mind how subtle the romance was. I kinda liked how they ended it between those two, with a subtle, but clear hint about their relationship now.

I absolutely loved Mad Dog and it's one of my all time favourite dramas now because of how much I was invested in it and how much I enjoyed it. For me it was brilliantly written and kept me at the edge of my seat from ep 1- ep 16. Loved the cast, characters, story, direction, sound track, everything about this drama! This drama also introduced me to Woo Do Hwan and for that I will be forever thankful 😂

A few thoughts. Thanks for all the recaps and comments for Mad Dog.
I enjoyed participating through episode 11 and then went on a 2 week overseas trip which delayed my finishing the series until yesterday.
I began the series as a Yoo Ji-tae fan from Healer and of course Jo Jae-yoon from Pied Piper and Defendant. The rest of the ensemble cast was also terrific including the bad guys. I agree with everything that has been said about Woo Do-hwan. I am looking forward to seeing his work in the future.
Now a couple of Kocowa subtitling complainst. "Hyung". First of all I am not a Korean speaker but I know when I hear the word hyung. In the two instances that I remember hyung being used Pentium-Min-joon and Min-joon-Kang-woo it was not translated or used untranslated. I think the character's given name was used. I prefer the Viki style for hyung, ajumma and a few other Korean words that often appear in dialogue. They are included untranslated. We know what by now they mean and it would look strange to translate them. DramaFever does translate them and it looks strange to me.
I will let my second gripe go which had to do with what honorific was given to Kim Min-joon. I believe it should have been translated "Doctor" Kim but he was always referred to as "Mr." Kim.

Yeah some of the subtitles were a bit off and it kind of made some moments not as right as they should have been, which is frustrating for those who kind of understand Korean as it's like we're not getting the entirety of the scene and emotions that the actors are giving us. But hey...if my Korean was any better I would help translate but unfortunately I'm still not at that level.

Your composition is in the spirit of reconciliation and remembrance that I had hoped Min-joon would share with his long-lost elder brother, Beom-joon. The emotional veracity is in keeping with the tone of the story as aired.
