Forest of Secrets writer nabs Jo Seung-woo, Lee Dong-wook for medical drama

Jo Seung-woo, Lee Dong-wook

This has buzz project written all over it: The writer of last year’s acclaimed thriller Forest of Secrets, Lee Soo-yeon, has a new drama in the works over at JTBC titled Life, and has lined up Jo Seung-woo (Forest of Secrets) and Lee Dong-wook (The Lonely Shining Goblin) to star. I bet a bunch of people jumped onboard before even finishing that sentence.

This project was first announced last summer, but with the addition of these actors, it’s got my attention all over again. If you’re concerned about the fate of the Forest of Secrets Season 2 that’s in the works, don’t worry: Lee Soo-yeon has said that Season 2, while still just in the early discussion stages, would be next on her list after Life. So the scheduling of this shouldn’t affect the other show.

Life will be a medical drama set in the emergency center of a large hospital. Lee Dong-wook is set to play a medical specialist (it’s unclear what kind) at the emergency center, while Jo Seung-woo will play the commanding head of operations at the hospital. I can’t wait to see Jo Seung-woo in another drama (it’s like he’s making up for all those years he only filmed movies!) because he’s one of those powerhouses who always delivers, and Lee Dong-wook can be super compelling in the right role (see: Reaper).

Admittedly, there’s not a lot to go on with that description, but Forest of Secrets has raised expectations for what this writer will do next, and I imagine she’ll find a way to bring suspense and smartly written conflict to the medical genre. If I had just one wish, it’s that the production changes this working title to something more distinctive, since competitor cable station tvN also has their anticipated drama Live coming up soon.

Life will air on JTBC later this year; a timeslot has not yet been specified.

Ooh! I was waiting for LDW to pick a drama soon. Medical drama wasn't a part of the plan, but so wasn't FoS writer so that's a minus and a plus. I'll take it!

Excited to see the female lead. I really wanna see Han Hyo-joo back but she was a doctor in her last drama... Moon Chae-won? She needs a reset after the disasterous dramas she's been in recently.

i've been longing to see MCW actually! tho i love Lee Jun Ki as well as Moon Chae Woon but i pass for Criminal Minds and the previous drama of LJK w/IU. I also haven't watched Goodbye Mr. Black for MCW's previous drama. She had been a pediatric doctor in Good Doctor right?

I hope she will get a good script and project soon and if given a chance to join this drama that would be awesome!

I super loved Jo Seung Woo and was happy to know that Forest of Secret 2 is in talks, i wish the original cast will remain tho. Bae Dona as well as the other cast.

Jo Seung Woo and Lee Doong Wook pairing would be great but haven't expected to be a medical drama knowing Forest of Secrets. Anyhow im up to this drama.

I wish u could edit! thanks to the actors and writer! Cant believe FoS was her first drama!

Also look at cable channels pulling in big name writers and actors! Cable channels are going to lead the way in terms on providing good quality Korean dramas.

Lol the headline alone made me decide to watch the drama even if they cast an idol-actor in the future. This trio is so solid!

I'm in the middle of re-watching/marathoning Forest of Secrets right now.

Please please can viki get the subbing rights for this?

I know I watch medical dramas. But FoS was fantastic, so wonderfully written and acted. I can't bear it if it has VIU ( and anyone who doesn't realize all subs these days bar Hwajugi ) are ripped from there... ) subs a potential drama of such calibre with mundane lines.

Please, please, please get the rights. I will be watching it for sure I abslutely loved FoS. And the writer. Plus the 2 actors.

I can request but viki doesn't have good luck getting cable drama licenses. That's why. The licensing team negotiations kinda suck. Maybe now that they are with kocowa they might have more luck. It would totally, absolutely suck if there are crappy subs for this writer. Especially for a medical based drama.

But man looking for the stand- off between these 2 male leads.

It's too long to explain but basically the streaming sites gets the ripped, uncredited VIU subs from a main source. And of all the subbing groups VIU consistently churns out the subs faster than anyone. However for some reason ( didn't investigate the licensing rights ) Hwayugi subs only become available ( via streaming sites illegally of course ) after the viki subs are completed. VIU is not subbing Hwayugi ( VIU is a legal subbing company I think ).

At the end of the day, VIU subs are fast but it's one person- presume they have a quality checker. Viki subs are done as a team effort. And with a medical and legal drama you need a team of subbers for good subs not acceptable or wrong subs.

OK there JTBC. Keep churning out amazing dramas. I don’t even need a drama. I just want someone to put these two in a room and have a conversation about anything and I’ll watch it.

I'm one of those people who jumped on board before even finishing the sentence. however, i never expect it to be a medical drama.
I love Jo Seung Woo, watched him in a lot of his films and only watched 2 of his dramas 14 Days God's Gift and The Forest of Secrets. She is really one of the great actors in Korean Industry.
and who doesn't love Lee Dong Wook because of his Grim Reaper character???

I am looking forward for tis drama as well as the Season 2 of Forest of Secret with Bae Do Na.. yay! what a great news!

"drama set in the emergency center of a large hospital"

I think LDW will act as an ER med doctor.. not much of those in korean medical dramas because they usually do surgeons.

Lee Dong Wook is not only a handsome actor but also an excellent one who has a strong presence on screen. I am happy and anxious of waiting for this drama to begin. Hopefully, this would be head and shoulder above the other dramas.

I will watch this for the writer seriously. Secret forest is really out of this world. Medical drama requires a lot of research and details and I sincerely hope the writer will do justice to the story. Maybe bring it up to the next level medical drama genre in kdrama just like what she did with Secret Forest.

Generally not a fan of medical dramas, as most of them tend to repeat and overlap each other, unless it really delves into the medical stuff (like HOUSE) and even then. However, this writer absolutely blew me away with Forest of Secrets. Having high hopes but honestly, even if her stuff is one hit wonder I wont be mad. FoS was worth it.
