Woohoo Waikiki: Episode 6

I expected Dong-gu’s first taste of jealousy to be entertaining, but even I’m surprised at the vast number of “This jerk, seriously” faces he’s got at his disposal. He makes a great (if a bit loud) knight in shining armor, and it’s nice to see him looking out for someone he cares about. But as always happens in the Waikiki guesthouse, good intentions go a bit too far, and Dong-gu and Yoon-ah find themselves in a situation they can’t get out of.

EPISODE 6: “Jealousy is my power/Marriage is an insane act”

Joon-ki performs a dramatic monologue for a director who’s barely paying attention. He just happens to need an actor of Joon-ki’s exact body type to act as a double for a bedroom scene in his next movie, but Joon-ki isn’t interested — until he hears that the female lead is Shin Soo-jung.

It’s Yoon-ah’s first day of cooking class, and Dong-gu is uncharacteristically concerned, making sure she’s not forgetting anything and telling her to pay attention to the teacher. She can’t remember how to get to the school, but Dong-gu already drew her a map, and he smiles widely as she leaves. That just looks weird.

Joon-ki and Seo-jin comment that Dong-gu and Yoon-ah were acting like newlyweds just then. Dong-gu’s voice cracks as he denies that anything is going on, and he escapes to the hallway to tell himself that he definitely does not like Yoon-ah, he’s just really nice. Sure, you keep telling yourself that, sweetie.

During class, Yoon-ah drops a bowl, and a handsome classmate picks it up for her, and later he offers her a ride home. Dong-gu looks jealous even though she says that the guy is just a fellow student, and he covers by snapping at her for bothering people again.

Doo-shik takes his completed erotic scenario to Director Tak, who asks him to rewrite it into something more provocative. Doo-shik isn’t sure what he wants, so Director Tak lends him a naughty movie to watch for inspiration.

At a meeting with his director, Joon-ki is told not to let his body condition change before they film his scene. But when the main actor arrives, he’s lost a lot of weight after a recent illness. The director says he’ll have to hire a new body double, but Joon-ki vows to lose 10 kilos (over twenty pounds!) in the next week.

Sang-yeon, Yoon-ah’s admirer, shows up with donuts that he made for the housemates. He’s handsome and charming, and he even likes little Sol, but Dong-gu keeps glaring at him through narrowed eyes. Joon-ki asks if Sang-yeon likes Yoon-ah, and he admits that he’s interested in her. He tells Yoon-ah not to be too concerned about it, then he asks for the restroom.

Everyone (except Dong-gu) tells Yoon-ah to go for it, but Dong-gu has concerns about the guy and tells her to be careful. Joon-ki accidentally drops a donut in Dong-gu’s lap, so he stalks off to the restroom to clean up. He finds Sang-yeon still in there… with Yoon-ah’s toothbrush in his mouth. GROSS.

Sang-yeon looks guilty for a second, then he smoothly says that he just wanted to brush his teeth. He pretends to be shocked that he’s holding Yoon-ah’s toothbrush (even though he got it from a holder marked with her name), and he puts it back and leaves the room with a saucy head-flip.

After he leaves, Dong-gu tells everyone what Sang-yeon was doing in the bathroom, but Joon-ki says it’s not big deal and that he even uses Dong-gu’s toothbrush sometimes because it’s soft. What, ew! He accuses Dong-gu of being jealous, and Seo-jin asks if he likes Yoon-ah. Dong-gu’s denial is just a bit too shrill to be believable.

Joon-ki asks Seo-jin to help him with his diet (as she’s chowing down on a huge donut, hee), offering to buy her a fancy new razor in exchange. She says she’ll do it, but only if he follows her orders no matter what. Uh-oh, Joon-ki is in trouble.

Alone in his room, Doo-shik starts watching the dirty movie on his laptop. He slams it shut when Dong-gu bursts in unannounced, and he squirms guiltily as Dong-gu teases that he must have been watching porn. Dong-gu asks if Doo-shik sensed anything weird about Sang-yeon, but Doo-shik just says he’s not sure.

He heads to the bathroom and starts up his movie again, only to have Dong-gu walk in on him a second time. Dong-gu realizes that there was no toothpaste on the toothbrush when Sang-yeon was using it, proving that he wasn’t really brushing his teeth. Doo-shik just yells at Dong-gu for not fixing the broken doors in the house, ha.

Seo-jin leads Joon-ki through a montage of weight-loss tricks. She makes him wear multiple layers of clothing, traps him in a sauna hot room, and forces him to work out until he collapses, chanting, “Shin Soo-jung! Bed Scene!”

Several days later, Joon-ki is malnourished and half catatonic from exhaustion. In a weak voice, he slurs that he’ll just drink water, but Seo-jin even forbids him that. She tells him to have a drink if he doesn’t want to film that bed scene with Shin Soo-jung, and Joon-ki pushes the pitcher away with a shaking hand.

Sang-yeon shows up again, this time bringing pizza for the housemates. Dong-gu resumes his glaring as they all sit to eat, so when Yoon-ah isn’t paying attention and Sang-yeon leans over and sniffs her hair, Dong-gu sees everything.

After another guilty pause, Sang-yeon calmly says that he didn’t do anything. Dong-gu loudly insists that he was sniffing Yoon-ah’s hair, but nobody believes him. Joon-ki croaks that he sometimes sniffs Dong-gu’s hair because it “smells delicious,” and he nearly takes a bite out of Dong-gu’s head, lol.

Sang-yeon asks if he can look around the guesthouse, but first he uses a tissue to pretend to wipe something off of Yoon-ah’s perfectly clean lips. Dong-gu yelps when he sees Sang-yeon pocketing the used tissue. Okay, this guy is really strange.

Sang-yeon beelines for Yoon-ah’s room, where he goes around sniffing her things and using her lip balm. What is this dude’s deal?? Next he goes to the closet and puts on Yoon-ah’s coat and scarf Dong-gu walks in on him giving the scarf a creepy sniff, and his voice brings the others running.

Just when it looks like they’ve caught Sang-yeon red-handed, he tells Yoon-ah that he just wanted to buy her a new coat and was checking her size. Dong-gu huffs incredulously, saying that he could have just checked the tag, but Sang-yeon says the tag was worn off. It works, and Joon-ki even says that he sometimes wears Seo-jin’s skirts because they’re comfy. What?

Sang-yeon announces that he’s leaving since Dong-gu keeps misunderstanding him. His phone rings, and as he’s taking his phone out of his coat pocket, out falls a pair of skimpy red women’s panties. Sang-yeon snatches them up, but Dong-gu grabs his hand, sure that this is finally proof that Sang-yeon is a pervert.

But Sang-yeon just says that the lacy panties belong to him. Is that supposed to be better? Dong-gu asks why he’s carrying them around in his pocket, and Joon-ki starts to say that sometimes he… but Dong-gu shoves him and tells him to shut up. HAHA.

Grabbing the panties, Dong-gu asks Sang-yeon one last time if they’re really his. Sang-yeon swears that they are, but Seo-jin suddenly recognizes them as hers. Sang-yeon completely drops the act, disappointed that the sexy undies aren’t Yoon-ah’s as he thought, totally giving himself away.

Meanwhile, Director Tak drops off Doo-shik in front of the guesthouse after a meeting, and he gives him another, even racier movie to watch. Doo-shik goes inside and immediately collides with Sang-yeon in the process of storming out, and he drops the dirty video. Everyone assumes that the video belongs to Sang-yeon, and nobody buys it when he swears it’s not his.

He looks to Doo-shik, expecting him to confess that he dropped the movie. Dong-gu says that Doo-shik is so pure that he’s never even held a woman’s hand, and Doo-shik grabs Sang-yeon’s collar, slams him into the wall, then drags him outside before he can say anything else.

By the day of Joon-ki’s bed scene shoot, he’s so thin and weak that he can barely walk or talk. He approaches the woman sitting on the bed, excited to finally be meeting Shin Soo-jung, but she turns to face him and he gasps in horror. Let’s just say, she’s definitely not Shin Soo-jung.

The director and lead actor laugh at Joon-ki for thinking he would be filming a bed scene with the real Shin Soo-jung. The torture of the last week runs through Joon-ki’s mind, and he bursts into tears. He perks up when an assistant director says that Soo-jung decided to film the scene after all, only to collapse when the lead actor immediately changes his mind and says he’ll do it himself.

Dong-gu is so happy to be proven right about Sang-yeon, and Doo-shik apologizes for thinking that he was just jealous because he likes Yoon-ah. Dong-gu scoffs at the obviously ridiculous thought of him having feelings for Yoon-ah, but when another would-be suitor shows up at the guesthouse to ask Yoon-ah out, he has the bad fortune of running into Dong-gu first.

Later, Yoon-ah comes home after her class, confused at some strange rumors about her that are floating around the school. All day, people have been asking her if she’s addicted to plastic surgery, in heavy debt, a pathological thief, and even if she’s really a man who used to be a Marine.

Dong-gu slowly slides out of the room, taking little Sol to sit with him on the couch. He confesses to Sol that he started those rumors, and she raises a tiny eyebrow at him incredulously. Dong-gu says that he did it because he was afraid her mommy would meet another pervert, and Sol gives her approval with a huge grin.

Left without guests again, Seo-jin and Doo-shik worry since the landlady’s been calling. She shocks them all by walking in unannounced, and when they can’t produce the rent on demand, she instructs her lackeys to mark everything she’s planning to seize to pay off their debt.

Dong-gu arrives home with Sol, and the landlady asks what he’s doing with a baby. Thinking fast, Joon-ki says it’s Dong-gu’s baby, and he blames their lack of rent money on the cost of diapers and formula. Dong-gu makes “I will end you” faces at Joon-ki, but he has no choice but to go along with the story.

Joon-ki continues that Sol’s mother ran off, and he gets on his knees to beg for mercy on behalf of the innocent baby. The landlady takes pity on them and gives them a month to pay her.

Later, Doo-shik and Joon-ki run into Dong-gu’s ex-girlfriend Soo-ah, who tells them that she’s going to the U.S. for a couple of years to help her new boyfriend open some restaurants. They wonder if they should tell Dong-gu, but they’re afraid that the news will send him back into a downward spiral, so they decide against it.

At the house, Yoon-ah is recovering after having her wisdom tooth removed. She complains that it keeps bleeding, and she heads to her room to change her gauze. She runs into the landlady, who’s brought diapers for Sol. Yoon-ah soothes Sol when she fusses, referring to herself as “Mommy,” and the surprised landlady asks when she came back.

Yoon-ah has no idea who she is or why she’s here, but she tells her that she just came back from the hospital. Joon-ki and Doo-shik run in screaming, having spotted the landlady on her way to the house, just seconds before Dong-gu and Seo-jin wander into the room.

The landlady asks Dong-gu why his baby’s mother was in the hospital, and Joon-ki blurts out that they brought her back home after she collapsed. Right on cue, Yoon-ah starts to bleed from the mouth, so the guys rush her to her room before she can say that it’s just from a wisdom tooth extraction.

Joon-ki somehow manages to dig the hole even deeper by telling the landlady that the doctors can’t do anything, so she assumes that Yoon-ah has a terminal illness. She goes all soft and entreats Dong-gu to make Yoon-ah’s last days happy ones.

She leaves, and they relax, thinking they’ve gotten away with it. But soon she calls Dong-gu and Yoon-ah out to offer to throw them a wedding, feeling bad that Yoon-ah will (theoretically) die without ever wearing a wedding dress. They both protest that they really don’t need a wedding, but the landlady tells them they can either get married, or move out of Waikiki guesthouse.

Dong-gu rightfully blames Joon-ki for the fact that he and Yoon-ah are now engaged, and he wants to go tell the landlady the truth. Joon-ki stops him, yelling that she’ll kick them out and sue them if she finds out they lied. He asks Dong-gu if he and Yoon-ah can just go through with the wedding, and Dong-gu’s very understandable response is to throat-punch him, ha.

The landlady takes Yoon-ah and Dong-gu shopping for wedding rings. They run into an old school friend of Dong-gu’s, and with the landlady standing right there, Dong-gu has no choice but to invite him, and their entire school club by extension, to the wedding.

At the wedding dress salon, Dong-gu comes across another friend from his army days. The landlady makes him explain why he didn’t tell his friend about the wedding sooner, and the fact that the landlady is paying for everything.

On the bus ride home, Dong-gu catches Yoon-ah smiling as she looks at pictures of wedding dresses. She says that she used to think about her future wedding a lot, but that she gave that up after having Sol, so she’s excited to be having a wedding at all.

Dong-gu says they could still tell the truth, but Yoon-ah nods off while he’s talking. He picks up the wedding dress book she dropped and sees that she’s marked one dress with a red star. He puts a hand beside her head to cushion it, and sighs.

Joon-ki announces “the groom” when they get back to the house, earning a matched set of eye-daggers. Seo-jin shows Dong-gu and Yoon-ah a news article about their wedding and how their landlady is footing the bill, and Dong-gu remembers that his old army friend mentioned that he’s a reporter. Well, crap.

The article gets some attention, and famous singer Wheesung (cameo as himself) calls the house to volunteer to sing at the wedding. Joon-ki thinks it’s a prank call, but Wheesung breaks into a song to prove that it’s really him. They get more calls from celebrity designers and chefs, offering their services for the wedding.

On the day of the wedding, Dong-gu looks a bit manic as he greets the crowd that shows up for the ceremony. Doo-shik says that at least he has a beautiful bride, but Dong-gu doesn’t think that’s a reason to accept this insanity.

Acting as MC, Joon-ki announces Dong-gu’s walk down the aisle. When he introduces Yoon-ah’s entrance, the lights go down and the doors open, revealing her in a gorgeous wedding gown. Even though she’s nervous, she looks absolutely stunning, and Dong-gu can’t take his eyes off her as he watches her approach.

Once she’s standing in front of him, she has to snap him out of his daze and remind him to stand next to her for the ceremony. Wheesung sings for them and wishes them a happy life together, then calls for a kiss. They try to refuse, but the audience starts chanting “Kiss! Kiss!”

Yoon-ah turns to Dong-gu and tells him to just do it, but he balks at kissing her in front of everyone he knows. She yanks him in and plants one on him, and Dong-gu’s whole world stops.

After the wedding, the landlady accompanies them to the airport to see them off on their honeymoon. They sit in the terminal to wait for their friends to let them know when it’s safe to go home, and Dong-gu mentally checks out for a few minutes, unable to think of anything but that kiss. Yet another of Dong-gu’s friends sees them, and it turns out that he’s got tickets on the same flight to Jeju Island as theirs. They have no choice but to get on the plane, ha.

For some reason, the landlady goes back to Waikiki guesthouse, and she steps in some dog poo outside the front entrance. She sits down to clean her shoe, and when Joon-ki and Doo-shik come outside, they don’t see her there in the corner. Doo-shik wonders if they should wait up for Dong-gu and Yoon-ah to get home, but Joon-ki says they don’t need to since it’s not a real honeymoon anyway.

Doo-shik says that it’s a relief that the landlady didn’t find out that Dong-gu and Yoon-ah aren’t really a couple. She creeps up behind them to ask what that means, terrifying Joon-ki into spilling the beans.

When Dong-gu and Yoon-ah get back, the landlady is ready for them. She makes them sign a contract stating that they’ll pay her back what she spent on their fake wedding within thirty days, or they’ll owe her a hundred times the amount.

They head home, wondering how they’re going to pay back all that money in just one month. A deliveryman on a scooter nearly flattens Yoon-ah, and Dong-gu grabs her and swings her out of the way. He freezes, staring at Yoon-ah’s face so close to his, mesmerized by her lips. His heart thumps so loudly that he can’t even hear her speaking, but eventually he lets her go and backs away.

He lashes out, blaming Yoon-ah for getting in the driver’s way and calling her a nuisance. He grabs his bags and stomps off again, but he doesn’t get far before he spots his ex-girlfriend, Soo-ah, sitting on a park bench next to her suitcase.

Soo-ah looks up at him, and he realizes that she’s been crying. She throws herself at him, hugging his neck tightly as she starts to cry. Dong-gu can only stand there, confused, as Yoon-ah looks on.

COMMENTS

I swear, I could watch Dong-gu acting jealous over Yoon-ah all day long and never get tired of it. It’s another example of the way this show handles situations with more finesse than you’d expect from a show that relies on so much slapstick humor, that Dong-gu wasn’t just jealous, but that his jealousy actually served a useful purpose instead of just being played for laughs. His radar was so fine-tuned that he sensed that there was something off about Sang-yeon right from the beginning. Even when everyone else thought the new guy was wonderful, Dong-gu’s extra awareness of Yoon-ah told him that he needed to protect her from this weirdo. Not that his behavior is mature, mind you, but it’s not like he’s ever been the most emotionally stable person in the house.

But his jealous flailing is so much fun to watch, and as long as he’s not harming anyone, I can’t wait to see more of him denying that he has feelings for Yoon-ah while simultaneously mooning after her like a lovesick puppy. It’s only going to get worse (better?) now that they’re sort of married, and Soo-ah seems to be back in the picture. By her luggage, it looks like she’s not going to the U.S. after all, and I wonder if this means she lost her home too (she mentioned she was selling her house) and will be moving into the Waikiki guesthouse.

Soo-ah hasn’t been my favorite character thus far, because she was really mean in the way she cheated on Dong-gu and broke up with him. Refusing to even talk to him when he was obviously in a lot of pain. But her being in the house would certainly complicate things in a lot of really fun ways, and I can see that with a few personality adjustments, she could be a really entertaining character. But I worry about Dong-gu, because he’s barely had time to get over her, and I’m sure that after the way he carried on after their breakup, she’s going to expect they’ll be getting back together. He’s obviously developing strong feelings for Yoon-ah, but he’s bound to get really confused, and probably hurt again, before he figures out which lady he truly cares for.

Until now, Yoon-ah has seemed pretty unaware of Dong-gu beyond their growing friendship. She doesn’t seem to notice him any more than the other men in the house, and she hasn’t showed any signs of being interested in him. But I expect Soo-ah’s arrival to kick any tiny sparks of feeling Yoon-ah has for Dong-gu into high gear. That whole pesky marriage thing will probably be confusing for her too, but in a different way — knowing Yoon-ah, she’s likely to interpret any growing attraction to Dong-gu to being (kind of) married to him, even against her will, rather than the fact that she’s actually starting to care for him. That or she’ll ignore her feelings altogether, having given up on any hope of romance after having a baby out of wedlock, the same way she gave up her hopes for a dream wedding.

Usually I don’t enjoy the stretch of time when the lead couple spends all their energy denying their emerging feelings for each other. But Dong-gu and Yoon-ah are so adorable that I think, in their case, it’s going to end up being really fun to watch.

1. Joon Ki's opening scenes are a thing now :)
2. I was a bit unhappy with their treatment of the landlady, and was glad that they got their comeuppance in this episode itself (maybe too soon...)
Thanks for the recap, Lollypip!

How many lies were told leading up to the wedding? That has to be some kind of record! I was both laughing and cringing so hard throughout the episode, which is basically how I’ve been viewing every episode. You KNOW it’s gonna blow up in their faces, and the second-hand embarrassment is always so real, but it’s all still so funny.

I’m just glad there was no gross-out humor this week. The snot-in-the-mouth last week was almost too much for me, eugh!

Hey Joonki, maybe stop lying, it hasn’t worked once so far! The upside is that it’s entertaining for us. 😂 These guys have the worst luck.

The x-files sound effects were so funny the first half, and how the half-dead Joonki kept undermining Donggu’s suspicions about the stalker guy. In his defense, I bet Donggu’s hair really does smell delicious.

Yes!! The X-Files theme everytime Dong Gu got suspicious made me laugh so hard. And what made it better was his facial expressions.

I've seen this sort of plot in other shows/sitcoms (i.e. the jealous guy being right about how the other guy is a creep), but this show executed it SO well. I'm also loving that Doo-Shik is getting more and more parts. I didn't think this show would make me laugh so much... Well done!

In addition to the x-files sound effects, I love it how The Weeknd's "Earned it" (song from 50 Shades of Grey) would play whenever the stalker guy was doing something sketchy!

That whole sequence with Joon Ki almost starved and Dong Gu trying to expose the weirdo was maybe my favorite so far of the series--laughed so hard. There's a point where Dong Gu is talking and Joon Ki is in the background just licking the pizza box. 😂

I felt so sorry for the landlady who was honestly being so incredibly kind to them. I was actually happy when she managed to learn the truth so fast. Now, I just want them to fall in love for real, and the landlady, who was totally a shipper, to get to pat herself on the back for pushing them together.

But also, I would like to know more about her. She seemed to have some type of relationship with the boys, since she was so lenient on their rent, bought the diapers, and paid for the wedding. My current guess is that she was a friend of Dong-gu's mom before she passed away?

I think she'll be in more episodes? At least I hope so. She seemed like a nice mother figure to the gang. I loved her expression when the two leads kissed. She's like a fangirl satisfied after her OTP kisses.

It did make the whole wedding plot a little hard to watch since the landlady was so nice. She did seem ready to kick them out (like who wouldn't kick out tenants who don't pay rent?!), but I liked how she was enough of a softie to not only get diapers for the baby but to support Dong Gu and Yoon Ah's relationship. I also hope to see her again and be Sol's grandmother figure since DG and YA's moms have both passed away.

I can't stop laughing during that whole wedding fraud shebang. It's a perfect reinterpretation for the word "snowballing lies". (LOL I knew it that Jun-ki's lies is the worst idea ever.)

Speaking of wedding, I love that Yoon-ah is the one who kiss Dong-gu first. No wonder that guy started seeing everything through heart-shaped glasses afterwards. 🤣🤣 (On a side note, Doo-shik covering Seol's eyes in the background is just the cutest.)

Also, Doo-shik covering Sol's eyes during her mother's kiss to Dong-gu = #priceless.

I’m really liking this drama even though I spend half of the time cringing in secondhand embarrassment while covering my face😂. But still, I find it funny and the characters have become endearing that I want to see where their arcs are heading. Plus, how cute is baby Sol! In my day to day, I sometimes use “Omo” and “진짜” (jinjja) a lot to express myself. Now, “괜찮아” (gwaen chanh a) in Jun-ki’s voice, lol, can be added to my daily expressions😁.

"gwaen chanh a, gwaen chanh a" that he watched both episodes last week, and now he demands I wait and watch all Waikiki episodes with him. This show is pretty great.

The whole cast is brilliant, and the special appearances in this drama are absolutely amazing ~ from Wheesung to Park Sung Woong to Lee Deok Hwa. And it's not like they come in for a few seconds just to say hi, they actually make an impression in the episode ~ like Park Sung Woong's finger pointing and Wheesung singing. Even the featured characters have little quirks too ~ like Soo-ah’s boyfriend’s Thai accent, or seo-jin ex's nose picking habit. The casting directors are really going all out and it makes the drama all the more fun to watch :)

Another good episode. I love where the story of Dong-gu and Yoonah is going. Their ‘fake’ wedding was wonderful- and even gives us some glimpses into Dong-gu’s abilities. He apparently made Sergeant during his 2 years of active duty and was obviously well thought of. That was a significant achievement and tells us that fundamentally Dong-gu is a man of very great capabilities. Which goes a very long way to explaining why the gorgeous Soo-ah stuck with him for 4 years- and why she has suddenly turned to him in her time of need. Too bad for her that Dong-gu has fallen head over heels for a pretty momma. I knew that Soo-ah would be coming back- and just in time, because so far Dong-gu is way ahead of Yoon-ah when it comes to realizing the depth of his attachment to her (but even Dong-gu himself is having trouble accepting it). The re-appearance of Soo-ah is just what Joon-ah needs to realize how much she has fallen in love with Dong-gu
Joon-ki, on the other hand, just does not seem to be growing. We see him at his best and his worst in this episode- We saw him willing to work incredibly hard to accomplish the near impossible to achieve his prize, only to have that prize snatched from him through the selfishness of the main actor. But we also saw him very thoughtlessly lie and get his friends into serious trouble, leaving Dong-gu and Yoonah deeply in debt. This is the same Joon-ki that we have seen before- he is going no-where either personally or in his career. He remains unchanged.
In contrast to Joon-ki, we see Do-shik seriously working at his writing. While this is not the writing that he dreamed of doing, there is a market for it- and our careers do not always go exactly as we planned. I am glad that he is at least embarrassed at the research he has to do. It will be fun to see where this takes him- and the comedic potential for serious laughter is huge in his subject area.

Can you imagine how much fun they must be having on set every day. Such silliness from everyone. I think Joon-ki’s opening scene auditions and Seo Jin’s running facial hair joke crack me up the most. I kind of want them to end up together but then again, they would be so ridiculous, I just don’t see how they could survive. (But they are funny and cute together.)

They ARE paired together, I think.

Also, I like that the show sorta normalizes women's facial hair. Seo Jin's is quite the extreme case and it's used to draw laughs. But, none of it is nasty.

Why is it that whenever Joon-ki tells a lie, makes a mistake, or gives a suggestion, it always blow up on Dong-gu's face and Joon-ki escapes unscathed? The fake dating, the mistaken baby daddy, and now this wedding. Hahaha. Well he did work part-time carrying bricks but at least he got paid. Dong-gu received Soo-ah's ire, got hit in the face, and now got a wife and a massive debt to boot.

Probably because Joon Ki already suffers enough woes in his own existence, lol. Fate's letting him pass off some of his bad luck to alleviate the burden. 😅

Haha. It does look like he's overflowing with bad karma that he can't help sharing it, unintentionally I hope, with others. XD These guys should have some sort of exorcism done, there's so much bad juju in their lives—it's almost like a half-step forward twenty steps back.

Writer-nim is so determined to make Joon-ki suffer 🤣. Is it bad that I laugh throughout all his suffering ? 😀

The main characters' mishaps usually end with bad luck on their side, so I was gleeful to find that Dooshik was able to frame stalker guy for owning that porn video. Finally, victory!!!!!

First I want to say thanks LollyPip for your lovely write-ups. Your ep. 1 recap’s intro made me give the show a try. I just caught up on the episodes and your recaps. It made it all the more fun, watching and reading along with you and your enjoyment of the show!

At first this drama felt much too slapsticky for me, but I wanted to see where the plot went. At episode 3, I hated it, and thought I wouldn't keep going, but I did! I am not good with second hand humiliation or gross-out humor, but I did want to see Yoon Ah's backstory. By Episode 5 the show had me when everyone kept dragging poor Seo Jin out in dramatic fashion to tell her the same “Falling is not failure. Not getting up is failure!” line. I cracked up! And I laughed increasingly since. It also probably helped that as LollyPip pointed out, there weren’t any moments in episode 5 that would make you want to throw up! Haha. But it also is the way the gang has grown on me as a fantastic crew and fam.

I know a lot of people love it, but it’s just not my thing, I could do without Lee Joon Ki’s extreme and absurd physical comedy. That’s not to say that he hasn’t made me laugh at all though! I think he has a bit too much screen time, and I’d like to see more of Doo Sik with some of that time!

My big (just being silly) questions for Woohoo Waikiki:
-How did they get the start up cash to begin this business?
-Why is the décor of the house not more Hawaii themed?
-If the outside shots of the house are supposed to represent the inside, how are there enough rooms for the amount of guests they show?!
And my real question:
-Why exactly did Yoon Ah leave Sol at that guest house during episode 1?! Was it ever explained? Or just forgotten? If anyone knows, please share!

Your question about Yoonah is one of the big questions for this show. We know part of the answer- she had becomes so beaten down and felt so helpless that she had just given up. It really took the first four episodes for her to re-emerge as the feisty little lady that she really is- and literally butt heads with Dong-gu. But the true full answer has yet to be revealed- that will be rooted in her backstory, which we really do not truly know yet- because the story she told may be entirely made up or was only a half truth. At some point the baby's daddy might show up- maybe she is hiding from him for some reason. Who knows?

all of these actors are comedic jewels, some expected, some totally unexpected, the director has been a genius in putting them together in this. how is it even possible to not even have a weak link and hit a bullseye with every single actor?

So, it looks like the guy that Soo Ah cheated on Dong Gu with took the money she got from her house and fled to the U.S. by himself. The Waikiki family is about to grow by one, and I'll be on board if Soo Ah stops being as awful as she was the first couple episodes. I do think this is leading into Yoon Ah's turn for some jealousy, and I'm very much looking forward to it.

I apparently have bad taste in men because every time a guy shows up and I think, "Oh, hey, he's cute," he turns out to be evil/perverted/some combination of both. 😓

Their wedding fiasco was the epitome of "that escalated quickly", lol. Also, Kim Jung Hyun's first on-screen kiss! Kyaaa~

Something I appreciate about this show (aside from the never-ending laughs) is that each new piece of plot is set up by something, even if the setup is super convenient or kinda hand-wavey. For instance, Yoon Ah must be Wonder Woman or something to be able to talk normally right after a wisdom tooth removal and I'm not sure if you can leave the doctor's office while bleeding that much (I've been too chicken to get mine out, so someone correct me if this is really the case, lol), but the excessive bleeding definitely came in handy right when they needed it! 😂

Actually, my father is a dentist and I've assisted him with hundreds of wisdom tooth removals! No, we wouldn't let a patient leave the office who was bleeding that much. And if they were bleeding like that hours later, it would definitely be a cause for concern. Not panic, but we'd want them back in so we could do some extra stitches or pack the wound with coagulant or something.

Minor correction: the person that is also going to Jeju Island with them at the airport is Lawyer Kim, as in the landlady's lawyer that was recommending she evict them at the beginning of the 2nd segment.

This is my favourite episode yet! I love how they got a cameo from Whee Sung and tossed Chef Lee Bok Nam's name around. The whole fiasco had me in fits! Dongu and Yoonah over shone Joon Ki this episode. Dongu loosing his mind outside the wedding hall was PERFECT. 👌That byuntae who was after Yoonah irritated me so much with his fake pompous upright nature.

It was surprising to see the actress who played the landlord being so nice because she usually takes on evil mother-in-law roles.
