Premiere Watch: The Great Seducer

The Great Seducer
Time slot: Monday & Tuesday
Broadcaster: MBC
Genre: Romance melodrama
Episode count: 32 (half-hour episodes, 16 hours total)
Reasons to watch: If you happen to be in the mood for a soapy teen melodrama, The Great Seducer is on its way this week with the promise of money, power, and scandal all wrapped up in a very pretty young cast. The adaptation of the movie Untold Scandal, which was based on the French novel Les Liaisons dangereuses, is about a set of aristocrats who set out to seduce a virtuous woman just to prove a point. This version is set in the world of chaebol heirs in contemporary Korea, so we can expect something closer to Cruel Intentions crossed with Heirs.
Last year’s breakout star Woo Do-hwan takes the lead as the sole heir to a chaebol group who only hangs out with the two other richest kids in school. The girl he likes is one of his best friends, but they find out that they’re soon to be step-siblings because their parents are getting married for business reasons. Stepsister just wants to get revenge on the poor scholarship student (played by Joy) who stole the attention of her older boyfriend, and propositions Woo Do-hwan to seduce and dump her.
I’m curious to see how dark they take the adaptation, since this is a well-known story about amoral characters, and K-dramas have this tendency to make even their darkest antiheroes fluffy marshmallows deep down. But if anyone can sell the duality of a seducer who might be falling in love, it’s Woo Do-hwan, so I plan to check it out for his performance. And if he must be a marshmallow, let’s at least be a charred marshmallow with a blackened heart.

Okay so I just noticed the poster/banner for this and thought its composition looked incredibly cheesy. But I also noticed WDH with some lipstick on and felt the need to immediately check out what Dramabeans had to say about this drama. Knowing the basic story, I'm also interested to see how dark and depressing this one gets. I wouldn't mind a lighter version! So happy for WDH, it was only matter of time before he started starring! It'll be so fun for us all to follow his blossoming career.

Here's to hoping that this drama-casting can pull off a Dream High but I'm also not holding my breath for it to happen since the two series are in a completely different genre. Melos can only allow you so much leeway in terms of acting.

I really don't get it when ppl said Joy's acting was so bad..and some says even do hwan's was too. Please..i think Joy did okay. Not like super ultra good. But..not bad. Remember Suzy in Gu Family Book? Well..I still remember it vividly how I felt cringy watching her stiff expression. Now, ppl..that was bad. Thank God, she did much much better in her latest drama.
And about the drama, the writting did felt a bit sloppy but I think the main plot was still carrying it's depth for each character.
I would continue to watch this one..definitely.

Maybe we should start a party here the same way we did with Just Between Lovers XD
It seems that DB won't recap the show or even give us discussion posts .

I suggested this to someone before but it seems no one wants to do it. :'( The videos posts is a better place to do episode per episode discussion since you get 1 or more posts per episode aired and anyone can jump in a certain episode without having to tiptoe around future episode's spoilers. Chatting in the Premiere Watch post is okay at first but once you get 1000+ comments all in one thread it becomes a bit hard to follow certain threads. (Thanks again to Just Between Lovers beanies for this realization hahaha)

But at the same time the jbl thread stayed trending and people unaware were able to join as they saw it in the most commented section! What if we continued here?
