LOL that story would have gone down a whole another route. At best, the "Dal Ja's Spring" route.
In other err..routes, my thoughts aren't clean enough for dramaland. @kimbapnoona - fairly certain this is your influence. I'm immediately wary of possible "other" references on db now.

It may appear in one go at the 2nd - Forest of Secrets did that. US seems less likely to get the weekly episode option.

0

Me too, in LA...
Don't know why they did the on-time weekly eps for man to man, late weekly eps for hwarang, but nothing with pretty noona *sigh*

Nothing in Canada either. :(

Yep, showed up in Australia where it assures me I will have "one new episode every Friday" which means I won't get to the end for a full three months. Ergh. Of course, they've put four eps on so it may be I get two eps a week? I hope so. Either way, I'm debating whether I should start or wait a week.

Hey All! Not watching much...patiently waiting for Netflix to give me my pretty noona crack...or whatever wack english name they r gonna give to it.

So instead I am watching Ms. Temper and Nam Jung Gi.! Im halfway through it. I already love this actress so i knew i was gonna love her character...but wow! She is the baddest female kdrama character i have ever watched. I love her character and her story arc. her exes r all trash and they can go jump off a cliff...though it says something about her cause she did love them all at some point.
The lovely company president is dumbbbbbb as fuck and annoys me soooo much!!! And even more so by the end of ep8! Like why would u all of a sudden trust the one guy who has continuously fucked u and ur company over.!!! >:[ Its weird seeing the actor play this role... since i watched forest of secrets first. lol. its weird seeing him in a loveable buffon not gonna try and ruin other people role.
Im not really feeling the main couple...i have never NOT wanted two people to get together like i do the main couple. I like the male lead but like i want them to remain friends... i do not feel chemistry between them whatsoever. the bro annoys me with how lazy he is esp when he comes thru in clutch situations. like he could be doing so much why does he slack around so much. the son is the cutest but is basically growing up himself...its a sad highlight of Korean culture in that the parents are so busy trying to provide for the kids that they actually forget to take care of and be there for the kid. i hope the show tackles this more head one. The sexual assault against MiRi made my blood boil...esp since its so true that he said/she said is cancels each other out and even with witnesses things may still not work out in your favor - PS i hope #metoo continue to make a wreckage in Korea - and Deputy Park...while i understood his situation but when he told MiRi to hold it in and her face broke...right there dude! right there is where u lost the chance to get the girl. Also it looks like hes gonna be a traitor... hmmmm

Looking forward to the second half and i hope this tides me over till Pretty Noona comes.!

Welcome to the Ms Temper world!!

I'm the opposite of you, currently watching Forests Of Secrets and it very surprising seeing him such a shady role because I'm used to him being a bumbling, sniveling but ultimately, lovely idiot in MsT&NJG( where I first saw him).

How I love MT&NJG? So very much!! I love ALL( yes all) the characters, even the antagonist, the Gold Chemicals President simply because he cracks me so much but his so infuriatingly effective!

Give yourself some time about the bro, Nam Bong Gi, he has his strengths and he'll come around. As for me, though his type of slacker character vexes my spirit, I immediately took a liking to him( perhaps its the actor whom I'm not familiar with).

I'm also halfway into the show. But this far, I don't think you're MEANT to feel any romantic chemistry between Ok Da Jung and Jung Gi because there's none yet. They clearly have a connection and have grown to develop mutual respect and understand for one another. Thats what were witnessing right now. They are at the point where they're growing closer, beyond the professional setting. I'm very curious to see how the show sells the ship but I wouldn't be surprised and would be perfectly okay with it, if the show keeps them as friends with romantic potential.

1
reply

Required fields are marked *

I love Ms. Temper and Nam Jung-gi. Not really invested for the romance between the leads too, I'm more focused on their team growth and the cute reluctance friendship/crush between Ms. Da jung and the son. I appreciate that each staff mostly got their personal issue (family, upper management misuse the power, financial etc) which makes them relatable but urghh that harrasment episode, it's too much for me to stomach, which reminds me of Do-hee unnie's daughter in Avenger's Social Club. Poor them.

Lee Yo-won suits badass woman character very well.

Binge watch is the name of the game in the US. So, dramasd Netflix purchased must be complete before release. Otherwise, Americans will be pissed at them.

1

Somebody in your region is tying up content. It's ironic because when it comes to North American shows, us Australians have exactly the same Netflix problem. But for kdrama we get way more content because no local provider is tying up content rights.

1

I'm in the U.S. and I agree with drawde2000. Everyone I know who watches Netflix absolutely MUST binge watch everything. Except me. I don't see where they find the time.

0

It's a combination of Netflix 1) not wanting and then 2) not being able to put content out until international shows air the entire season. Something about syndication rules and what-not. However, I've taken on a letter-writing campaign to Netflix from this portal into the Netflix world : https://media.netflix.com/en/contact-us
and if everyone writes, maybe we can get somewhere.

2

The subs have been cleaned up a bit, and now that Netflix is releasing episode, the subs will be much better everywhere else! Everyone needs to go online and write Netflix! Thatโ€™s the only way theyโ€™ll change it. You donโ€™t have to be a subscriber, but if you say โ€œI havenโ€™t subscribed because you donโ€™t release kdramas in a timely manner, and I would if you did,โ€ and thousands of people did this, we might get somewhere! I just sold a bunch of stock last week and wrote them saying Iโ€™d sell more if they kept holding Pretty Noona hostage. I doubt thatโ€™s why there are episodes, though, lol.

Hi everyone! Happy Friday to you all!

A few days ago @kimbapnoona posted a petition on her fan wall asking the drama gods to add more options to discuss dramas that are not being recapped either via regular recaps or Open Thread recaps. You can find the petition by clicking here. I know that some of you don't frequent the beanie wall and as such I figured I would make one last push on the Friday OT before I take @saya's advice and send the link to the petition via email to the DB team. It is my hope that this petition gives us the DB community more ways to discuss our favourite dramas. As such, if you agree with the petition, please upvote and/or comment so that the DB staff can see that this is something we really really want.

Lastly, if you're a fan of A Poem A Day/You Who Forgot Poetry, @kimbapnoona has quite the lively discussion going on her wall for episodes 5-6. You can find that discussion by clicking here. @saya will hosting the weekly drama Open Thread discussions from here on! I'm sure we're all happy for that!

Have a great weekend beanies!

@manohiraโ€”Do you like British mysteries? Are you watching Unforgotten, the new Masterpiece Mystery series on PBS? It actually aired in the UK in 2015 and has two seasons. The investigators specialize in cold cases and each season follows a single case.

It's superb! Nicola Walker (Last Tango in Hallifax and Netflix's River) is rivetingโ€”her DCI Cassie Stuart is emotionally intelligent, warm and commandingโ€”without raising her voice.

I work for a local PBS station and started binging on the series yesterday. I'll likely watch both seasons in one fell swoop, it's that good.

I love British mysteries. I stopped watching British and American series after I found kdrama and I just back to them recently. So, it was almost two years. Currently I'm watching endeavour season 4 and 5. In the past I have watched Inspector Morse, Foyle's War (young James Macavoy was in the very first episode), Broad church, what else...too many ๐Ÿ˜„. I was addicted to British series just like now I'm crazy about kdrama. But watching so many series still can't help me with my English ๐Ÿ˜‚.
I haven't catched up with Unforgotten. I just check it on imdb and it looks very interesting. Thank you for the recommendation. I will definitely check it.

I loved Happy Valley. It's on Netflix. There are two seasons - both are very good.

2

I enjoyed Endeavour as well as Morse and Lewis! Morse is an intellect unlike a typical police force figure since he is an Oxford dropout so throughout Inspector Morse and Endeavour the two shows exhibit how smart he can be and I love that. yet I cannot connect Morse from Endeavour to the old grumpy Morse from the Inspector Morse. How can this rather shy naive young Morse became a grumpy jaded inspector?
Still the Oxford scenery is divine.
I am not a native English speaker but I have lived in both UK and USA. i find that British English is quite a challenge because they use many expressions (and very clever ones indeed). The intellectuals often throw French to their conversation as well.( even in British novels) The range of accents also widely varied based on their classes and regions they grow up. Downtown Abbey really shows how differently people speak( the family speak with posh accent while their servants speak with heavy Yorkshire accent) and it is fun!

2

@melanie I dropped Happy Valley in the early episodes because I was scared the ending would be a disturbing one like Broadchurch. But I plan to pick it up again once I'm ready.
@akikoz that's the reason why I dropped Life on Mars the first time I watched it. I just recently pick it up again but I still need English sub to understand the lines.
Agree with you, Morse and Endeavour are like two different person. Maybe he become bitter since he's not with Miss Thursday? My kdrama makjang theory kicks in ๐Ÿ˜‚

3

@manohira,

Pleased to meet another fan of FOYLE'S WAR. ;-)

Have you checked out INSPECTOR GEORGE GENTLY, with Martin Shaw in the title role and Lee Ingleby as his sidekick, Det. Sgt. John Bacchus? It's set in Newcastle-on-Tyne in the 1960s. I enjoyed it a lot.

MIDSOMER MURDERS with John Nettles in the role of Detective Chief Inspector Tom Barnaby is another fave. Sgt Gavin Troy (Daniel Casey) was his original sidekick. It's got a delightfully quirky sense of humor that I really enjoyed. ;-)

Hi Everyone! ....... I hope you are all doing well today!

This week:

Should We Kiss First - The truths are starting to come out and I don't think Soon-jin is going to like it.

The Great Seducer - Didn't really get to this during the week, other than a brief 5 minutes.

Mystery Queen 2 - Early on, I think many of us called it regarding the Hyun-soo situation.

Switch - Watched episode 1 and it wasn't too bad. This may be the first Jang Geun-seok I stick with. We'll see.

Miracle We Met - Watched the first 2 episodes and they were quite good. As always Kim Myung-min was fantastic. The thing is, I found this being broadcast on tv, but after the first 2 episodes, they decided to pull it due to the whole licensing issues that seem to be affecting everything.

The Wrong Mans - This week found the hapless guys saving an ex-girlfriend, getting a double-agent arrested, recording a murderer's confession and turning her in to authorities, and making a politician pay millions for a city project he had no plans to pay for but was only supporting in public. All this from two guys who arrived to a party in stolen Go-karts!

That's all for now. ...... Take care everyone and have a great Friday!

The first 4 episodes of THE MIRACLE WE MET is available at Kocowa but not Viki. Apparently Viki does not have access to all Kocowa content. I was under the misapprehension that Viki did get all of Kocowa's product.
O/T I have thought to myself there is now way Viki volunteers can subtitle all these dramas from Kocowa so Viki must be airing some already subtitled. That is pure speculation on my part.

0
1
reply

Required fields are marked *

For some reason The Miracle We Met seems to be under lock and key. Even Kocowa won't allow free access to it for 24 hours like it does with its other shows. The minute it's uploaded it's locked for subscribers only.
Also, I'm not sure how exactly this is determined but some Kocowa shows on Viki actually are uploaded with Kocowa subtitles instead of volunteer subs (Queen of Mystery 2 and Master of the House). It's anyone's guess as to why certain shows are being treated differently than others though.

0

KBS seems to keep very tight control on their content. I donโ€™t even look for KBS shows on Viki anymore and theyโ€™ve locked down the KBSworld feed on Youtube.

Rape here, Rape there. Rape everywhere but kdrama land. Females are the main subject of assault in kdrama land but they never go beyond that and rarely tread into forced/rape scenario. Whereas in a thai drama there will always be a scene where hero imposes himself on Heroine.

I'm curiousโ€”in the Thai dramas where the male protagonist rapes the female protagonists, is that normal? Do the characters use the word rape? Is perceived as a criminal act and punished as such? Or is it just a bad start to what ends up being a consensual relationship?

I'm guessing that you don't see rapes like this in K-dramas because it's f***ed up. Particularly if it's normalized and forgiven. I can only imagine how to warps the minds of teens watching these shows.

2017's Witch's Court focused on rape exclusively. It took pains to show frame the rape cases within the context of power. Victims included a female child, a male grad student, and adult women.

Since I've only watched a handful of K-dramas, I can't speak to what you've observed. But a couple other recent shows dealt with rape realistically.

When Ji-ho fought off her assailant in Because This Life is Our First (2017), it felt very realistic because he was a colleague whom she'd really liked. And even though other colleagues tried to minimize his assault, she rightly raged back at them and refused to be placated (even though she never charged him for assault.)

In the recent Judge vs. Judge, the rape/murder of a teen ager is the catalyst of destruction for multiple people. Shockingly, the person who turns out to be the worst monster is one who purports to be an ally and champion of women. (This show ended up being incredibly boring but the ideas were interesting.)

I tried few thai dramas and each of them had atleast 1 scene where Hero Literally did that and few scenes later Heroine still with the hero. That's why i used the word forced 1st. Heroine was able to stop it or it would have turned into rape. High level danger.

Females are the lambs of kdrama world. All assault(intentionally made non-sexual) experiments are tried upon female characters and children. All crime related kdramas are high on it.

Witch's Court is good example of what i asked. I had dropped it by 3rd week so can't say much.
BTlOF had it but overall execution and the outcome was pretty cliche.

No matter how bad the crime is you shouldn't try to Minimize its impact and make it out a normal affair. You have to make audience feel the severity of it.

Well, I've been following Thai lakorn (lakorn=drama) on and off these past few years (since 2004) and rape/ attempted rape is pretty much normalized, just like @CatoCat said "hero imposes himself on heroine" and this is meant to be seen as "romantic". Rarely this situation is potrayed as a crime, I can't recall any lakorn that I've watched that ML end up in a jail, hence I've dropped countless lakorn because of this.

Kabe-don or equivalent to it is plenty and forced to sleep together/unplanned pregnancy is seen as the "a-ha" moment for nang'ek (FL) to be together/fall in love with phra'ek (ML).

It is fucked up, I know, that's why nowadays, Thai viewers (especially youngsters) mostly lean to kdrama. As much as generic kdrama can get, they are pretty much tame and innocent compared to lakorn. Plus usually consent is the key in kdrama.

A Thai drama is the only one I've seen where a man rapes a woman and she still ends up with him in the end . Sexual assault is very normalised. I actually think kdrama could do with a bit more realistic look at sexual assault (it's what I liked about Angry Mum) but it should always be portrayed as a bad thing.

Ji-Ho filed in a lawsuit in the end and she even won it so we can assume the assailant got punished. Howsever, we don't see her being interrogated by the police or testify in court. It seems like all she had to do was to file in the lawsuit, provide some text messages as evidence and then miraculously it's all resolved. I'm afraid it's not so easy in real life.

Mystery Queen also tackles the issue of attempted rape. This time the assailant starts as an exhibitionist and chooses his victims randomly. One of the assaulted women explains that she didn't report it to the police right after the incident because it happened when she was coming back home after driniking with her friends and she was afraid she would be blamed. Pretty realistic as the victim often gets blamed in such cases. However, I don't like it how they made the culprit into a murder as if several attempted rapes were not enough to show what a degenerate he is.

I'm watching Live and am enjoying the show. These two shows, Live and Noona have slow subs. But Live has up to 8 episodes of subbed episodes already and I think depending on your location, Netflix will be releasing subs, soon. See above thread from other beanies.

Iโ€™m watching both and enjoying both, but what are you in the mood for? LIVE is gritty and realistic, not shying away for difficult topics like human trafficking and prostitution, assault and violence, but does it well, and the acting is superb, from everyone, minor and major characters. The music is amazing too, and I think that as a critical show, it has everything going for it.
PRETTY NOONA, well, you know what youโ€™re getting there!

Watching K dramas: Live, Pretty Noona,Poetry, My Ajusshi & Mixed Up Investigation Agency . Lots of good stuff.

J drama: Chinmoku Hotei (Silent Court), pretty good, short at 5 episodes. An eldery man is killed. A woman who had provided home services is suspected. In her past, when she was a nurse, a elderly patient had died. Her name was in his will. The prosecuter and press insinuate sheโ€™s a serial killer. A young buck who had fallen for her knows she canโ€™t be the killer. He enlists a shady lawyer to help prove her innocence.

J films: Samurai I,II,III . Kind of tame by todays standards but still good.

Hana-bi: Cop gone bad yakuza flick. Violent, didnโ€™t finish

Firstly, apologies for a non kdrama question but I'm out of ideas.

Can anyone who knows Korean have a look at this site and tell me how to buy this shampoo?

Is it only available online or are there retail outlets where I can go buy the shampoo? If there's outlets, can u pls gv me the locations link?

http://m.medicean.co.kr/product/detail.html?product_no=82&cate_no=79&display_group=1

This is the best shampoo I've tried for my oily scalp. I could buy it from a local online site b4 (no retail outlet) but now it's no longer for sale in my country, don't know why.

I hv a trip to Jeju Island in October this year and am really hoping I can somehow buy it while there.

Thanks in advance for any help.

As for Evergreen the answer to that question will always be "nothing" right until the end.

Hola Beanies! Hope you all had a good week. Mine has been okay. I've gone 2 days in a row without a migraine so yay. No migraine yet today, but my head is starting to feel odd so hopefully I'll be able to curb it before it starts. This week was more of a watch old dramas kind of week:

MASTER'S SUN- This is one of 3 dramas I've been in the mood to rewatch and it didn't disappoint. I liked it the first time around, but I was way more invested this time and liked it so much more. Definitely liked Joo Joong Won's character more the 2nd time, but felt underwhelmed by the ending.

OH MY VENUS- This show has its flaws, but it's just so dang cute. For unknown reasons, this one has stuck with me since I watched it two years ago. I'll be starting more intense dramas shortly so this is a nice, light show to watch before the intensity starts.

SHOULD WE KISS FIRST- Taking a breather. I do like this, but I'm just not hooked. I'm behind so I was bingeing episodes and I discovered that doesn't work for me. This is a 1 episode a day show for me.

MY HUSBAND OH JAK DOO- Love the 2 leads, the rest of the show-meh. I found out this is 24 episodes which explains SO many things. I feel like this show should be 16 eps, at the max 18 or 20. I just don't see how they are going to fill 24 episodes unless it goes super makjang which I feel like the director REALLY wants to do, but the scriptwriter is like NO!

LET'S HOLD HANDS TIGHTLY AND WATCH THE SUNSET- Still need to watch this week's episodes, but I am seriously over the husband, but am super interested in Nam Hyun Joo and Dr. Jang Suk Joon's relationship. I think I'm experiencing 2nd lead syndrome. Had to happen some time.

Enjoy your week!

I'm with you regarding My Husband Oh Jak Doo's episode count. The show's been moving so briskly, why do they need 24 episodes? According to this news post, the production crew has promised (or threatened?) more "exciting conflicts and interesting stories." http://www.imbc.com/broad/tv/drama/ojakdu/news/index.html?idx=231340

Open Thread, week 62! I have too much to do today, so this will be brief! First, my heart is overflowing at the amazing community that is Dramabeans. Really, I prefer this site to every other social media site out there! Iโ€™m thankful I can indulge in my hobby here and write for all of you about kdramas! Also, we are such amazing people, all of us, respectful of each otherโ€™s beliefs and stances, from oppas to religion to cultural sensitivities, Iโ€™m amazed. And when the site isnโ€™t doing well or there are beanies missing from our group, we worry, and pitch in even more to get things doneโ€”like a real community. From things like getting discussions together for shows not recapped (LIVE and PRETTY NOONA) and then getting shows recapped like A POEM A DAY by @saya! With all of us invested, we can do anything!

With that said, there are discussion groups for LIVE here: http://www.dramabeans.com/2017/11/noh-hee-kyungs-live-recruits-shin-dong-wook-as-loyal-policeman/nid=594525&nidwpc=3228914#ready-comment-3228914

And for PRETTY NOONA here: http://www.dramabeans.com/2018/01/jung-hae-in-up-to-romance-sohn-ye-jin-in-pretty-noona-who-buys-me-food/

(please read @hades comment about RAW vs subbed comments before commenting. thanks!)

And waiting for A POEM A DAY mini-cap! Fighting, @saya!

Iโ€™m so behind on dramas right now: 1 subbed episode of LIVE, 2 episodes of POEM, and 2 (4) episodes of SWITCH! But I am caught up with PRETTY NOONA and that makes me so, so happy! I LOVED EPISODE FOUR! Besides for the sexual assault by the ex-boyfriend, that is. Man, I hope he doesnโ€™t get creepier, because I canโ€™t stand him right now and really do wish heโ€™d be hit with a TOD.

I hope to catch up next week when hubby has a business trip (I watch so much more dramas when heโ€™s not around! LOL)

Otherwise, hereโ€™s a conversation while watching PRETTY NOONA:

Me: Really, if I was 35 (or 40) and single, and a hottie like that was around liking me, Iโ€™d totally be his.

Hubby: Dearest, youโ€™ve got it wrong, if I was 19-20 and that 35 year old was around, I would have dumped by girlfriend in a heartbeat and gone out with her!

Me: Ok, you got me. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! ROTFL!

Moral of the story: Sohn Ye-jin is too gorgeous for words. And Jung Hea-in is the cutest ever in this show.

2nd moral: Glad the both of us are on the same but opposite pages on this drama.

3rd moral: Gotta go teach some medical students (about 100 of them to be exact)! Have a great weekend!

But anyway, thank you for your post and your praises to DB. I felt identified because I don't use Facebook, Twitter, instagram, or whatever else out there, but the only social place I come to talk and read about things I like is Dramabeans!!!! ๐Ÿ˜
So I am totally with you in your thoughts.
Second: thank you for the post of the live discussion groups. It is better than nothing and I will hang around there at least for the poem a day and pretty noona.
Third: agree with you and your husband about Son Ye jin and Jung Hae in. I am crazy about him, at least๐Ÿ˜…
Fourth: your posts always make me laugh or smile. So thanks again!!

Me, I will be visiting friends in the south of Germany, so I am right now in the bus.

I have noticed that a pervy thought usually causes a nosebleed, but now that you mention it, it does happen often. Maybe it is something in their genes or climate? I tend to have nosebleeds during hot summer weather. Yeah, sorry if you expected an insightful comment lol, you just made me curious as well!

Too many part-time jobs to pay off family debt while trying to be a good student to meet your family's high expectations and not sleeping or eating well (only ramen on the fly) apparently causes nosebleeds. Or an illness that manifests itself as nosebleeds because the person won't slow down because (see reasons above) and ends up in the ER.

I get nosebleeds when I'm in the very hot/dry, very cold/dry climate my work repeatedly forces me to live in. They associate it with overwork but actually it's just the air. It does get better though but if we have a few very dry, very cold weeks my nose will often bleed.

And I don't work as hard as our Korean heroes and heroines, so maybe that's why I've never had it.

I got nosebleeds pretty often when I was a child and I still get them from time to time, especially if it's hot or I'm very tired, ill, hot or don't get enough sleep. I'm not Asian so it's definitely not an Asian thing :) One of my blood capillaries is weaker than it should be and that's why my nosebleeds happen.

I heard the website crashed the first three seconds they started the ticketing so almost none got processed at first. Fortunately, we don't do ticketing like the way they do in SK or in other countries (so no 0.2 seconds record XD). Fans who have credit cards could get tickets online and the others who don't can just go to the ticket outlets near their area to buy tickets. I don't do credit cards so I'm one of those who line up early in the morning to get lucky XDDD

Awww, surely one day they'd go visit you, wherever you are~ *fingers crossed*
