Park Shi-hoo offered KBS horror romance drama

The drama in question is a KBS “horror romance” titled Lovely Horribly, and Park Shi-hoo (My Golden Life) has been offered the lead role, although no decisions have been made; he is said to be considering the role as one among several possibilities.

Lovely Horribly is described, in its broadest strokes, as a story about a man and a woman caught between chance and fate, and between horror and melo. The story features a drama writer with a touch of supernatural ability, in that things that are written in a script strangely come to pass in real life. The script’s main character is a top star, and the role Park Shi-hoo has been offered is of a top star named Yoo Philip. It’s not clear whether his character exists in the real world or whether he’s entirely fictional, but as W–Two Worlds showed us, a dimension gap never got in the way of true romance, did it?

The top star character harbors trauma from an incident eight years prior, when he was kidnapped by a stalker and nearly died. As a result, he struggles with fear on a daily basis, jumping at the slightest sounds and afraid of a whole host of things — fire, blood, heights, ghosts, and people. He finds it difficult to be in dark underground parking garages or to walk alone in empty corridors. Well, I do like idea of Park Shi-hoo playing wimpy over him showing off his bravado; he did well with being constantly surprised and shocked in his last drama, the weekend hit My Golden Life, which marked a hugely successful comeback for him. I have to admit I was pretty wary of watching him in a rom-com role again, but found him and Shin Hye-sun quite watchable in that drama (well, when the plot wasn’t being frustrating), so I’ll be looking to see who gets cast opposite him here.

Lovely Horribly is looking at an August premiere on KBS.

"... trauma from an incident eight years prior, when he was kidnapped.." sounds like Master's Sun but does this time involve kinda romance between human and ghost or something? I can't imagine it yet but if its plot going to be good I'll give it shot.
Nah just kidding I'm gonna wait for who will be the main female lead, PSH doesn't convince me enough to watch.

Whats his big deal to make netizens bow down to the extend of spectacular Golden Life’s rating? I just cant get the sincerity out of him since the case -.-

A serious case of double standards.

I remember when Daesung was in that car accident (which unfortunately caused the death of a person) but he was in no way under the influence of alcohol nor did he flee from the scene or avoid questioning but people were so hateful to him and calling him very nasty things.

Whilst similarly, Nickhun also got in a car accident (no one was injured thankfully), he was found under the influence and everyone was saying the usual "Oh it was only his first time", "Forgive Oppa, he's really sorry." which made me fume at the time, because although I have nothing against Nickhun but how can people treat two similar situations differently?

One of the big issues I still can't understand about Korea.

3

@letseatcookies

Long sighed yes.

Btw, I dont defend Nickhun, but I remember knetizen did give him a hard time tho (only international fans who defend him) .

But all cases we talked abt are not as fatal as PSH’s , (i didnt say DUI or get ur dog unleash is not fatal), but come on, raping drunk woman (underage? Wthv) is seriously low.. Like I said, no sincerity from him for my taste. The cases dissolved quite vague & very closed case

1

Yeah they probably did tbh but I was just using it as an example.

Of course definitely can't compare to Park Shi Hoo. Who knows what happened and why people didn't react as badly. Shall remain a mystery but not something we should tolerate. So for that...I guess I will still not know how his acting is since I won't be watching.

0

Don’t bother to analize his acting department

are we lacked in Oppa/Dongsaeng department? ...Park Hyung Sik will beat the sh*t out of him in terms of acting & face, so does Ji Sung & Jo In sung in his age-line.

I will take all under 30’s model packages + Song Joong Ki & Lee Min Ho any other day!

1

Yeah I have my eyes on Park Seo Joon, Yoon Shi Yoon, Jang Dong Yoon...and more so I have no time for him anyway hahaha...

0

I feel like in Korea most of the times if you're good looking and successful, you get a free pass.

0

He is kdrama true chaebol? With the exception that he is also a rapist. Koreans did hate him A LOT, but at some points comments were getting less and less (because bots, or whatever they use in this type of cases), plus viewers from his morning drama are generally middle aged people who aren't that interested in celebrity scandals. So yea. We are gonna see this a****** for a loooong time

And what I find funny are those people claiming that he can't act. Just be honest and say that you don't like him because of his scandal. He was one of the hottest actors of his time before the scandal and he definitely can act. I have never seen anyone saying that he can't act before his scandal.

I find him disgusting. A person who has to be carried into someone's home because they are drunk cannot consent to sex. Unfortunately, the way that the system works if you have enough money & connections you can always pay your way out of scandals even dirty, sick, rapey ones but that doesn't mean that I have to welcome him with open arms back onto my tv.

I was interested in My Golden Life but refused to watch it because of him. This new drama sounds very cool but if he is cast I will not watch it. He did a movie with my favorite actress (who happens to be virtually blacklisted from K-ent for a scandal far less serious than raping someone) and I didn't even try to see it. That's not judging or talking bad about him that's simply choosing not to spend my entertainment time with someone that disgusts me.

8
reply

Required fields are marked *

There are still netizens out there who support Park Si Hoo, so just because he's a good actor and good looking it means he gets a free pass? Of course we don't what happened between the woman and him because we weren't there when that happened, everything is she-said, he-said. Of course these days, the woman always gets blamed for rape. And true, there are times the victim is lying, but that's only the 3% of the time. The woman dropped charges at the end, and it sounded like she got paid off, who knows.

1
reply

Required fields are marked *

I agree. Some people just can't move on. First of all, it was an isolated incident, it's not like he has been stalking the woman and been planning this set up for months. Nor did he do something like that again repeatedly (which would show he has a problem/sickness). It's probably a momentarily lapse in judgment. Haven't we all had that? Besides, no one really knows what happened. The woman herself had a choice to proceed with prosecuting him but chose not to.

Ok, people may hate him, forever, so be it. But bringing up a case from years ago for which he was acquitted shows how vindictive some people are.

I for one did not like him Princess Man but enjoyed his performance in My Golden Life. He has improved and is showing a different side to his acting. I am looking forward to seeing his future work after watching MGL.

Required fields are marked *

Wow. Some of the comments here are disgusting. To anyone proclaiming "But we don't knooow what REALLY happened", you are wilfully closing your eyes to the facts that we DO know:

- On the night of Feb 14, 2013, Park Shi Hoo, 22-year old idol trainee “A”, and 24-year-old rookie actor Kim Hee Jun, hereon referred to as "K", went drinking at a bar

- CCTV footage shows K piggybacking an unconscious A into the elevator of Park Shi Hoo’s apartment while Park Shi Hoo walked beside him later that night.

- K gave an interview where he described A as being so drunk she was puking in the elevator and inside Park Shi Hoo’s apartment. K’s account was supposed to bolster his claim that they took A to the apartment because she was not feeling well and the apartment was close to the restaurant they were at, but it confirmed that A was so drunk she was sick (in K’s own words).

- Park Shi Hoo admitted to engaging in sexual activity with A that same night but claimed it as a “mutually consensual affair”.

I don't know how Park Shi Hoo defines the word 'consensual', but here's a legal definition of consent: clear, unambiguous, and voluntary agreement between the participants to engage in specific sexual activity. Consent cannot be inferred from the absence of a “no”. A clear “Yes”, verbal or otherwise, is necessary. Consent cannot be obtained from someone who is a minor, someone who is asleep or otherwise mentally or physically incapacitated, whether due to alcohol, drugs , or some other condition. Agreement given such conditions does NOT constitute consent. Consent must be clear and unambiguous for each participant throughout any sexual encounter. Consent to some sexual acts does not imply consent to others, not does past consent to a given act imply ongoing or future consent. Consent can be revoked at any time.

This means that even if A wanted the sexual encounter before she passed out, once she passed out then engaging in the sexual encounter is RAPE because she’s incapable of changing her mind and revoking her consent.

Everything else is is speculation, yes. But the facts that we know revealed pretty clearly and unambiguously that Park Shi Hoo raped a girl who was drunk and unconscious. What does this have to do with his acting ability? So what if he can act? He raped someone. So what if he was "one of the hottest actors of his time"? He still raped someone. The extent to which some people are willing to deny this continues to baffle me. Maybe stop for a moment and reconsider whether the person you're championing is really worth your championing and if defending a rapist is really the hill you want to die on.

2

Required fields are marked *

Very true...nobody really know what actually happened that evening and the morning after ! So best to be less judgemental about this scandal. Btw...she's not underage as claimed by some and also, for someone who claimed being raped, it is rather strange to have her only coming out of his apartment the next day almost near noon time, neatly dressed up, hair well coif and walking and talking on her cellphone in a leisurely manner, as proven captured in the CCTVs. Her friend later revealed that she had advised the girl how to make the most out of this and how to 'negotiate' terms with PSH. Another glaring inconsistency was that the serving attendant at the bar/eatery where those 3 were at that evening produced receipt showing the amount of alcohol they had ordered and it was shown that they had consumed very little alcohol indeed. There's an article that accused the girl of being manipulative, pretending to be tipsy and unable to give out her house address. PSH subsequently said during the height of this scandal break-out, that she didn't appear drunk or even tipsy once they reached his apartment and that they had consensual sex that very evening and also another round of sex the next morning. There's also a hint that his friend, the same one who piggy-back her to his apartment that night, also had some sort of sex or 'playful physical contact' with her in his turn, but definitely not in kinky threesome ! So how do one reconcile all these and make judgement one way or another. So one has to agree that we really do not know the actual happenings of this scandal and only they themselves would know.

We really don't know what has happened. This is entertainment industry afterall. No one is a saint there, I would assume. I liked him back in Prosecutor's princess days, but I have now found a replacement that looks a bit like him but much more cute (the lead in pretty noona).

HA! I always thought Jung Hae-In's smile is very similar to PSH's!

#Metoo has yet to reach the Korean peninsula it seems.

Late reply, but #metoo has definitely reached Korean shores. Veteran actor Jo Minki, who was in practically every popular sageuk and also teaches acting in a university, was accused of sexually harassing students for years. News came out recently and he committed suicide before he was brought to court. They've also stopped producing any new sageuks because many of the veteran actors have been accused of sexual harassment and TV networks don't want to deal with them. Dramabeans hasn't been reporting any of these and it's frustrating to see.

Dramabeans doesn’t seem to put news about any of the big events in the acting world, such as death news of actors, scandals, me too, none. Which is strange, but I guess this website wants to focus on recapping or the actual dramas.

It's strange that DB hasn't posted any of these news because they're such big revelations in the drama industry. I dunno what's going on with the site lately, but I really miss the days when they used to post about news like this, as well as military enlistments, weddings, births, etc. Nowadays, it's just drama recaps and a few casting news here and there.

I totally agree, this site used to be much easier to use and had greater variety of content. I lost my interest because of this very thing. I used to visit this site for recaps and kent news, now it’s just some selected (read: mega popular) dramas recap with very little actual critique thrown in and then the rest is just some regulars here commenting.

I simply can't watch anything he is in. And I really liked Princess' Man and thought him a decent actor but knowing what he did I simply can't watch him without thinking of that poor girl.

Actress like Yoon Eun hye can’t seem to get roles but this Park Shi Hoo, who dragged and unconscious girl and then raped (unconscious people cannot consent) her and paid/threatened her into silence, still gets offers. What kind of connections does he have to KBS? Does not the victim matter at all? I’m glad I see people here denouncing this person.

There are plenty of other good actors, can't they just pass-over PSH?
