Premiere Watch: Miracle That We Met

Miracle That We Met

Time slot: Monday & Tuesday
Broadcaster: KBS
Genre: Fantasy human melodrama
Episode count: 16

Reasons to watch: This week is the premiere of the new project from the PD-writer team behind Strong Woman Do Bong-soon, a body-swap fantasy drama about two men whose fates get swapped in a cosmic mistake. Kim Myung-min plays a successful bank manager with a seemingly perfect life, who is in actuality a stereotypically detached and absentee husband and father. Go Chang-seok is a man with the exact same name, born on the exact same day, and he lives a more modest but boisterous and happy life with a loving marriage. In a case of mistaken identity, Go Chang-seok ends up in an accident and dies a death that was meant for Kim Myung-min, and in order to right that wrong, heaven gives his soul a chance to return and possess Kim Myung-min’s body. Because that always works out so well.

I’m not sure if that means the protagonist of the story is Go Chang-seok’s soul (though obviously it’s all going to be Kim Myung-min playing the dual role), but in any case it’s about this man living a double life and becoming the head of two households, caught between the two wives, Kim Hyun-joo and Ra Mi-ran. It’s being called a human melodrama, but I fully expect a hefty dose of outlandish comedy from this PD-writer team, because they wouldn’t be ones to waste an opportunity for body-swap hijinks, especially when you have Ra Mi-ran and Kim Myung-min playing off of each other. I don’t know which pairing we’re meant to root for, but I guess that’s part of the fun.

I've been looking forward to this show. I believe this is the same writer of Woman of Dignity. I bet it's going to be hilarious to watch while also, educating about real life experiences and lessons. The synopsis also reminds me of Please come back mister. And I LOVE that show

Ra Mi Ran! I can't get enough of her since that unforgettable turn in Reply 1988. I watched Unnies' Slam Dunk just for her and what an impressive woman...my role model.

SWDBS was such an enjoyable show despite the serial killer subplot I'm willing to give this PD-Writer duo another go.

me too. I actually I feel bad for the whole family that he died because of a mistaken identity. That just sucks. I wonder if it'll be a little like Come Back Ajhusshi, which I really enjoyed.

Luckily, there are very few people in the world with my name and the ones with my name are born in different years.

I saw some spoilers, I think this gonna be a fun and heartbreaking at the same time. I guess the ending either will be like Come Back Ahjusshi, or Ra Miran's real husband is not really died. Rating was solid for first epi as well.

I'm less enthusiastic of the writer though. I was one of the few who didn't like SWDBS.

I only ended up watched some clips of Park couple because they were so cute together. I think people just love them as a pair, and not into the story. Park Boyoung deserved better.

I hope both Kim Myungmin and Kim Hyunjoo are able to have some influences on the script here. Kim Hyunjoo rejected My Husband Oh Jak doo for this, so hopefully there's something on this drama which convinced her.

I dropped Strong Woman one episode before the final. It felt like a chore to watch it towards the end because of the killer 😒

Even I didn't particularly like SWDBS. The romance was nice but most of the humour fell flat and the "thriller"/mystery aspect with the creep was so disjointed. It felt like I was watching 3 dramas mishmashed into one.

Just noticed that Kai is here. Lol I didn't know at all. The humour in SWDBS was too much for me so I'm not as thrilled that the same writer is in this production. It's Kim Myungmin so I'm going to give it a try. The whole soul switch is iffy though. Is it Go Chang-seok's character or is it Kim Myungmin's? One of them is dead so they have to deal with it well, especially when there are two wives. I got burned by that drama that must not be named.

Why on earth is this not up on Kocowa/VikiPlus????? I though that was the one and only virtue of Kocowa -- that we'd get all of the Big 3 dramas! Please don't tell me Netflix is getting their grimy little paws on this one too. 😣

(There may have been other Big 3 dramas that Kocowa didn't release. But if there were, I missed it.)

It is possible I am panicking too soon. Googling just now, I found a facebook post from Kocowa saying they would be subbing this drama. Fingers crossed that they didn't change their minds in the last 2 weeks. Still don't know why it's not up today, though.

oh my GOD, I hope Netflix haven't gotten their hands of this. I'm already sick of Netflix ruining the live watching experiencing for more and more shows. I'm worried this will become more of the norm in the future.

What's more annoying is that they mostly leave us in the dark for awhile about whether they have the rights to a show or not.

Was really excited about watching this but haven't been able to find English subs anywhere :(

Hoping that it will be subbed soon, or I might have to take the risk of watching RAW with my rudimentary Korean - meaning I'll only catch 10-20% of what is happening. Annoyed.

This is going to be tough, and funny, on a man who is fated to head two households. He can’t, because of mixed identity and mixed up body, sleep with either. Ra Mi Ran will play his legal Wife I am sure.

I watch it last night. And it was good. Actually, there is a behind-the-scene special last week & when I saw Ra Miran will star in it, I was jumping with joy. Go Changseok is funny when I watch Overgrown Bromance. Then I realised that the cast is mainly the senior actor & actresses which I like to watch. They are so expressive & their acting skills are awesome. I don't sync well if the cast are mainly idols or the younger actors & actresses (except Woo Dohwan >.<). Anyway, the first episode has Kim Wonhae (pls correct me if I'm wrong, he's Wooreuk from Hwarang & also Do Bong Soon) which actually the "X-factor" that attracts me to watch this.

The only thing that reminded me of goblin was the "afterlife" portion, all misty grassfields. Plus a bungling grim reaper (who hasnt even spoken yet). But I agree with everything else, intriguing premise + great cast! The best weekday drama KBS has had in a long time.

Loving it so far! 🙌 Am currently watching ep7 but I really really think he's not going to fall in love with his "new wife" cause he seems very dedicated and in love with his "actual wife". I do feel like he'll help heal her scars tho because it's evident she feels neglected and cast aside even when she does things independently. She'll probably end up with Mall CEO but I'm worried about how Hyun Chul will go back to his actual wife and daughter now that he's in a new body.

Required fields are marked *

I hope that too. Speaking about Mall CEO, I don’t like him. I mean, at first I did because I felt it’s work out better that way if she falls in love with him but he just rubbed me the wrong way.
It started with him continuously hitting on her despite finding out she’s married. I mean, her marriage isn’t even a marriage but he doesn’t know that for sure. He was hopeful enough to guess but still, he doesn’t know her plans or if she’s working things out with her husband or why they’re even dysfunctional. Yet he’s actively hitting on her. I don’t like that. So, I’m starting to find him distasteful.
I used to find English speaking scenes very cringey because it sounds pretentious and just fake so I thought I’d be happy listening to this guy but I was wrong... again. Maybe it’s cause I already don’t like Mall CEO guy but every time he pronounces something in English, he sounds hella pretentious.
Okay this turned into a dislike CEO guy rant. Other than mall guy and my apprehension to how they’re going to make things work because both families are so precious, I’m loving the show.
Real Song Hyun Chul was such a dirtbag!

@esther YES! I know I'm supposed to like Mall CEO but his attitude rubs me the wrong way. Like he should first listen to her instead of hitting on her because he doesn't know what kind of marriage they're in. Plus they're usually in a professional work environment. Whenever, he says "target penny" I find it so grating because his pronunciation fits in the wrong way- I feel like he's actively trying to say "hey I'm from America" by using English words whenever he can--- which he is probably not aiming for, but it just irks me and I can't pinpoint why.

The entire 1st ep with real Hyun Chul made me so angry like he's hurting the people and family around him. I'm really loving the scenes between "fake Hyun Chul" and his real daughter because it's so bittersweet.

Required fields are marked *

Good to know I wasn’t the only one itching to bitchslap target penny out of his mouth.
The one person I feel so sad for is real Song Hyun Chul’s daughter. She’s the only one he ever praised or loved openly. It’s a good change for the son but for her, I wonder how she’s going to take in her new dad. It could be a good thing for her to realize her grades aren’t the only good thing about her. Or it could go the other way because her grades was how she proved her worth to her father and that all she know but if he doesn’t care so much again, where does that leave her?

2

UGGHH Target Penny had me eye rolling every time he said it. I have a feeling real Hyun Chul's daughter feels really pressured and will probably break soon but her "new changed dad" just might be able to pick up the pieces and teach her that being first isn't the only thing in life especially since he has experience rasing a loving daughter before the switch up happened. That scene in ep 7 where he cooked food for Kang Ho the son really warmed my heart because the son has been left alone for so long now.

2

You guys—this show's execution is checking all of my boxes so far. I love the blend of romance, mystery and fantasy with a surprising dose of absurdist humor.

I didn't expect that Banker Hyun-chul's memories would re-emerge and was surprised that Chef Hyun-chul deflected his wife's overtures at the end of Ep. 7. T

While I often find romantic triangles tiresome, the connections knitting the two families together are irresistible. The three leads are amazing at portraying the mix of confusion, yearning and sadness.

Like @fencejumper (Andy), I adored the scene where Chef Hyun-chul prepared food for "his" son. He's such a wonderful father and I look forward to more scenes with the kids. Until this week's episodes, I was wondering if I'd mis-remembered how many kids lived in the house.

Here Comes Mr. Jordan (1941) was the first film to follow this storyline. The accidentally reaped soul belongs to a boxer who has to accept the body of a shitty banker murdered by his wife. He falls in love with an innocent woman, solves his murder and—before he's murdered again—tells his love to be open if a stranger (especially if he's a boxer) approaches her in the future. His displaced soul finds a new home in the body of another boxer who just died in the boxing ring. When he awakens, he loses his previous memories and merges completely with his new body. But when he and his beloved meet again, they meet as strangers who share an instant connection.

My hope is that Chef Hyun-chul heals the Banker's family before finding another way to permanently return to his own family.

Next week, I'm going to bite a lemon every time CEO guy says #targetpenny.

@tsutsuloo Even I was surprised at the memories emerging. In the Ep8 when Banker Hyun Chul emerged as he sat in the room, I thought it was a nice touch how they portrayed his bent back straightening up into a confident pose and how his crooked walking became straight and refined (focus on the shoes). It was evident by the faces of the staff that the "old confident banker" Hyun Chul was back. So now I'm wondering whether the classical music is like a key or something.

When he cooked the food I was so happy - his son is so used to being labeled the "disappointment" but then here's his "dad" suddenly not being so serious, finding his jokes funny and taking the time to cook delicious food for them.

The Mr. Jordan movie storyline seems epic - the love between them (also there's a lot of dying and reincarnating 😂). I'm really hoping the drama's ending is proper because I don't know how they're going to solve this mess.

Yes I hope the banker's family are healed too- the son is on his way to becoming a better person but his wife and daughter aren't. His daughter especially because she doesn't voice anything despite being suffocated by all the expectations that she isn't meeting.

In ep 10 when he was talking about his adoption he suddenly switched to English that at first I was like huhhhhh???? It's really glaring for me and I don't know why. I searched him up and the actor's from Indiana.
