A Hundred Million Stars Falling From the Sky remake confirms Seo In-gook, Jung So-min

Seo In-gook, Jung So-min, Park Sung-woong

The main cast is officially confirmed for tvN’s upcoming drama A Hundred Million Stars Falling From the Sky, a remake of the hit Japanese drama from 2002 starring Kimura Takyua and bearing the same name. (Sort of. Many translations call it A Million Stars Falling From the Sky, but technically, the title gives us a hundred million stars. In case you were counting.) The cast will be led by Seo In-gook (Shopping King Louis) and Jung So-min (Because This Life Is Our First), with Park Sung-woong (Life on Mars, Man to Man) currently in talks to join them.

The drama was announced over a year ago, and recently name-dropped Seo In-gook and Jung So-min as casting possibilities. Park Sung-woong is the newest name to join the mix of this project helmed by director Yoo Je-won of rollicking rom-com dramas Oh My Ghostess and High School King of Savvy, and written by Song Hye-jin of the movies My Wife Got Married and Love, Lies.

The original series was a mystery-thriller-romance drama that kicks off with a suspicious death and a police detective suspecting that our main character, a mysterious sous chef, knows more than he lets on. In this updated remake, Seo In-gook’s character is the main assistant in a craft brewery who seems indifferent on the surface but has an unexpected innocent side. Which is exactly how I would describe Seo In-gook’s personal appeal, so that casting seems spot-on.

Jung So-min plays an advertising designer, Yoo Jin-kang, who lost her parents in an accident when she was young and was raised by her older brother and underwent a whole host of diverse growing pains. She meets the mysterious Kim Mu-young in an encounter described as both sudden and curious, after which she experiences huge changes in her life. She becomes swept up in him “as though he’s a black hole” and their ensuing love story is described as fatal and fate-challenging.

Park Sung-woong is up to play the detective investigating the case who is also Jung So-min’s brother. Ah, of course. It wouldn’t be a K-drama if all three characters weren’t tied up in fate’s knot and thrown around to feel some good-old-fashioned melo paiiinnnnn.

A Hundred Million Stars Falling From the Sky will air on tvN later this year.

The fact that it's written by Javabeans is bigger news than the news itself ^^' . Glad to read news again on DB :) . Regarding the drama, I'll give it a try for Seo In Guk. About Jung So Min I loved "My father is strange" and watched "Because this is our first life" but she hasn't convinced me yet, her acting is good but not on a wow level ^^', guess SIG will save the day ^^'.

I feel the same as you do, regarding Jung So min. I don't actively dislike her in a drama but I could always think of someone else I'd prefer. I never ever feel passion from her acting. Even when she cries, it just comes across as 'little girl forced to confront the harsh world' and not 'adult facing tough times, making difficult decisions and feeling very deeply'. I like her in cute romcoms, but melo? We'll see.

Thank God SIG is back baby!!!

I'm so excited! Seo In Guk in a new drama! The director really favors him, haha.
I only worry a little bit about how the Korean audience will react to this, after SIG got an exemption from military service March 2017. Ideally, this drama would start in the first half of 2019.

Yay, SIG is back! I want nothing but good things for him and it saddens me how much flack he has been getting for not serving in the military, even though he tried his best and it wasn’t his fault.

This drama sounds like it has shades of I Remember You, which is a great thing. I’d love to once again see mysterious SIG in a tense war of wits against an older character actor, while navigating a scorching romance with a sassy leading lady. Can we throw in an adorable dongsaeng please?

OMG I just read up on the original show's "twist" because I don't care for spoilers when it comes to remakes and hmmm... my guess is that tvN will tone it down considerably and probably change stuff to better suit Korean audiences. Because yikes, that's some taboo content with no HEA I can foresee...

I LOVE SIG though and like Jung So Min.

I read about the Japanese version, and I can't imagine they won't make some changes (or one big change, at least) for the Korean audience. I liked the PD's rom-coms; I hope he can give us something dark and compelling.

they really can't do sister track for korean audience now.. can they?

Another possibility might be ex-step-siblings or former foster siblings (aka raised under the same roof for some amount of time but not blood related). That would skirt the taboo line while not straying as far from the original. I guess we'll see...

Yay! Javabeans is back!

I’m a little confused that SIG is back already. I know he was exempt from service, but don’t actors usually lay low during the time they would have served in order to avoid public backlash? Korean viewers can be really aggressive when it comes to military service avoidance (even if it was unavoidable.) Isn’t it too soon for him to take a role?

I distinctly remember this Japanese drama and "A Sleeping Forest"/"Nemureru mori" were really intense back in the day. Two of my favorites - I see the ratings on My Drama List seem lower than they 'should' be but wonder if younger viewers rate older dramas lower due to the overall "dated" feel to them at times. Anyway, both excellent - hope SIG can pull it off! I think so!!

I think it has to be totally different too. I can't see it being so dark and twisted either. I just watched the original a few months ago, it took me a few days to even shake it off. It really is a masterpiece, a twisted train wreck but one of the best I have ever watched. Kimura Takuya was fantastic in it, even his eyes had a blank look.

I think someone just let her out to write a few articles because of the outcry from many beanies in the past few weeks about the absence of updates and the site losing it's original feel.

So probably big boss man decided to pacify beanies with a few updates from JB, the most wondered about contributor. Hope it's not a dream. A very good dream.

Please take care! I'll most likely be lurking on this site even if everyone else left. πŸ˜…

As for the drama news...

This show really does have the potential to be amazing. Only hope it delivers. I know the cast will at least!

The Japanese version's ending made me cry and I was depressed for days afterwards. So I kind of wouldn't mind the writers changing things up a bit for a happier ending because of that. Also, I think that the original would be hard to beat in general if it was an exact remake.

Guess we'll see!
