Ha Suk-jin cleans away your worries in Your House Helper

KBS’s new healing drama Your House Helper dropped a teaser and a few posters, which all feature one very simple but pleasing concept: Ha Suk-jin (Radiant Office) tidying up your life in more ways than one. The teaser is almost like a commercial for a new cleaning detergent or something, the way he enters the messy home and begins to clean every nook and cranny. But this time the ad is for the pretty boy housekeeper, not his cleaning supplies, and it even shows him metaphorically cleaning away the words “worry” and “regret” as he sweeps and polishes. “I will clean your heart. Your house helper,” he narrates in voiceover.

The drama is based on a webtoon of the same name and stars Ha Suk-jin as an unlikely housekeeper—he’s the son of a wealthy political family who stood up to his parents and got disowned for sticking to his principles, and ends up working as a “house helper” who fixes career women’s messy homes and messy lives. Cosmic Girls’ Bona (Lingerie Girls’ Generation) is set to co-star as an ambitious intern at an ad agency and one of his clients. The hero supposedly has a gruff personality, but this is described as a “life healing drama,” and from what we see here he’s nothing but sweet and smiley and soothing, so I have hopes that he’ll have some interesting layers.

The production comes from PD Jeon Woo-sung of the uplifting underdog drama Strongest Deliveryman and writer Kim Ji-sun, one of the junior writers on The Producers. I think we can expect laughter and genuine healing from this team, so the adaptation seems to be in good hands.

Your House Helper will air on Wednesdays and Thursdays in the time slot following Suits, and premieres July 4.

I love the shots here, and the white (curtains, shirt, shelves, tile, box, etc.)! I’d hire that guy in a heartbeat! But will I watch this? It seems like a typical romance, right? I hope the plot is as cleanly executed as this trailer!

@hades Not everything was tight in 1% of Anything. There was a scene of HSJ in his boxes on bed. He slipped his hand easily under so I don't think it was tight.

@outofthisworld Whoa. That was....how did it get past the censors? A BTS of the editors would be great.

@outofthisworld, there’s a gif of it! Omg, is that a pocket or is he about to adjust something because he’s a little, or a lot turned on????? So, maybe I’ll put this on the top of my watch list now! 😂

2

@ally-le The men I know tell me it's all about adjustment. One called it 'parking'.

In my excitement, I typed boxes when I meant boxers. Anyway, boxers have no pockets so we all know where his hand went.

Maybe this is the reason why I watch HSJ. I don't care if he's typecasted or not. He's just so much fun.

@egads more things get past censors. Aren't They Human Too?

You gotta love K-drama promo vids. They're often barely indicative of what the drama will actually be like in tone and presentation. I'm often reminded of Because this Life is our First and Hwayugi with promos like this. In the case of the former, it seemed like it could very much have been a throw away drama. In the case of the latter, I think that's where 3/4 of their CGI budget went.

Yes, some good dramas do have good teasers. I’m enjoying What’s Wrong With Secretary Kim? so far and that had delightful teasers!

But generally speaking, @hades, I totally agree! I hardly pay attention to promo materials when it comes to deciding what I want to watch. Even plot description and the cast and crew behind a drama don’t really help me predict how much I will enjoy a drama sometimes. At times my most highly anticipated dramas do end up being awesome, like Mother, but many of my favorites were not really on my radar before they aired.

This happened for <Chicago Typewriter too, where the promos made it out to be about an anti-fan even tho it was anything but. The drama's teasers didn't even hint at the incredibleness of what was to come: amazing character portrayals + friendship and the brilliant 1930 scenes with ample YAI in his wig glory.

It seems to be a really cute rom-com and I like this actor. But seriously we have to (again) see actors with so many differences of age. And yes, every time we have news of this nature I will complain, sue me if you want.
It gets so dysfunctional on the screen, artificial. I saw only one case that worked.

Just coming here to post the same thing. Unless the age difference is a features of the source material, there's no reason to cast someone as you g or inexperienced alongside HSJ. And although he's a serviceable actor and foine looking, I always find it glaringly apparent when he doesn't have chemistry with a co-star. Still going to check it out because I'm intrigued by the concept though.

Exactly!!!! One of the reasons I love noona romance is that although the male actor is younger, it is necessary for the story, there is a reason.
Now, you have thousands of dramas where the actress is 10 years younger and has no need in the story.
I personally find it cruel to women this kind of standard

It also struck me that no intern would have the space in their budget to hire a housekeeping service.

I think it would have made more sense if it was a workaholic business woman but then Bona is way too young for that role.

I don't know how he meets her though. I took a look at the webtoon, so the first chapter was shown from his pov, and the second was from hers I think. That's at least what I got from the pictures lol.

2

Bona was quite good in lingerie girls but sadly the glaring age gap here bothers me as well. Like you said I wouldn't bother about it if this was really necessary for the story but that's not the case here. Also, there are so many talented actresses in the industry like my girl Kim Seul Gi, who never gets a lead role,[but she was brilliant in oh my ghostess,] so seeing how someone as green as Bona, getting these larger roles is unfortunate, and my opinion stands even if she isn't bad at acting. Just shows us that men would keep getting roles as they get older but somehow actresses are chosen randomly. Or maybe that's the pattern for KBS. Even go won hee is better than bona at least in that regards.

1
4
reply

Required fields are marked *

My exact thoughts, it does not matter if the actress knows how to act or not, the important thing is how the industry loves to put much younger women to work with older men.
This sends a message that only young women is enough for an "older man", if as the woman grows older, she sucks, she's not longer pretty or attractive, she no longer suits. When she grew older she can't no longer compete with the young female standard. I believe that everything in this life has its age, simple as that. This is not an isolated case, it has several cases in the industry, not only in Korean but in the whole world.
And man, apparently the older, the better.

BTW: Kim Seul Gi is perfect, she definitely has to get a lead role...

1
1

Required fields are marked *

Couldn't agree more. I don't know what's this webtoon about, but if bona is well fit for this role then I am guessing ha suk jin's character is someone younger maybe. So whatever it is, somehow the producers/ casting directors think we need to choose someone fresh, prettier or younger. But they overlook the actresses who have been here for a while but doesn't get chances because they are not idols or entertainers, not saying that all idols can't act though. Anyway I will stop spamming hehe.
P.S: Yes kim seul gi is awesome! So disappointed that she hasn't been able to get that breakthrough role yet. I hope it happens soon too.

OMG is this actually robot drama wrapped in the skin of a healing drama?

Wasn't there a drama recently where Roomba was a killer, or mucked up a murder investigation? I'm not sure Ha Suk-jin would find healing with a killer vacuumn, but maybe they could become a team of "cleaners" so to speak. Working as vigilantes together, and ridding SK of corruption.

Wow, my scenario took a turn. I should probably check on my moral compass, but I do find the idea of Ha Suk-jin playing a vigilante or outright bad guy intriguing.

Love it! Perhaps Ha Suk-jin can be the Vampire Prosecutor of house helpers -once he inhales a fleck of dust he could see the crime taken place as if in front of his eyes.

Regrets? That would be the more generous emotion you will have to experience once this team is onto you.

No corruption will be swept under this rug.

9

No corruption will be swept under this rug.

LOL. Brilliant tagline.

6

It was in While you were sleeping. The roomba woke up after the murder, walked into the blood pool and made a mess of the apartment.

The detectives thought it was a ritualistic killing because of the pattern the roomba made when in reality, she just knocked her head on the counter and died of blood loss.

6

@luzitania Thank you!

Is poor HSJ going to be typecast forever in these rough-on-the-outside, fluffy-on-the-inside roles? His last three roles were the same character archetype with variations in setting! I mean he is good at it unlike HJE who can be hit-or-miss with that banshee screaming, but hopefully he gets more offers soon.

On the other hand, this female lead is making me ask questions. Looking at her filmography, she has one supporting role and one lead role in a short drama. I haven't seen both but that seems awfully little to be able to contend for a lead role in a miniseries. Oh well, I'll reserve the criticism till we see the acting, but that does not make me optimistic at all.

The cinematography is so clean, I love it. It kind of reminds me of the cinematography in Suits. But in Suits, everything looked so sharp, like a well tailored suit. But this cinematography looks crystal clear like all the dirt was removed from every surface of everywhere. I guess that means they don't have a filter over the lens? Not sure. But it makes me think that they camera they are using is very expensive.
