Ji-soo offered lead in youth drama First Time at First Love

I know Ji-soo (Bad Guys: City of Evil, Strong Woman Do Bong-soon) has already graduated to adult bad boy roles, but I’ll always love his Angry Mom baby bad boy character best, which is why I’m glad that he’s still up for youth dramas. There’s a new coming-of-age campus drama in the works called First Time at First Love, which is reportedly in talks to stream on Netflix, and the leading role has been offered to Ji-soo. (It looks like his real-life buddy Nam Joo-hyuk was offered the same role earlier, but he must have passed on it.)

The drama comes from former SBS PD Oh Jin-seok of Yong-pal, My Sassy Girl, and Modern Farmer, and tells the story of twenty-year-olds navigating their first baby steps into adulthood. It’ll take place on a college campus and focus on youths who have just barely shed their high school uniforms learning how to dream, make true friends, and fall in love for the first time.

Ji-soo is up for the role of business student Yoon Tae-oh, a handsome young man from a top university and a wealthy family. He seems perfect on the outside, but his precarious family relationships have led to a lifetime of alienation. One day, his friend Han Song-yi suddenly ends up living in his house, and he’ll develop romantic feelings for her, confusing the hell out of him.

It sounds like an adorable friends-to-lovers setup with a simple, relatable story at the core, which is exactly my kind of youth drama. I’ll dream big and hope for a dash of Age of Youth and a sprinkling of Because This Life Is Our First for thematic purposes. Bonus points for a fresh-faced ensemble of talented rookies to join him.

First Time at First Love is currently in talks to air on Netflix.

Very nice. The initial description seems somewhat Age of Youth & Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo so I'm looking forward to more news about this. :)

Does this mean this will be the only show where the male lead loses the girl to the second male lead?

If Jisoo ever got the girl, I'm pretty sure the entire fabric of spacetime would be torn asunder and the universe would be destroyed.

FINALLY! Finally we are getting to see ji-soo in a lead role! Yay for the puppy! I wonder why did it took so long for him to get a lead role? I think his records were pretty good. So why did his opportunity come so late? What do you guys think?

Sassy Go Go though.....if that is considered a poor performance, this is truly the Upside Down from Stranger Things.

That plot sounds delicious. I am a sucker for male lead falling in love first (at least that's the idea I got from the description).

Who doesn't love that! KSH would be a good female lead for him if she's available! I'm still not over their adorable chemistry in Page Turner.

This might put me in the minority but here goes...

I like Jisoo and I adored him in Angry Mom but I have not seen him in anything after that has made me give him high marks. The thing is, I really really want to be able to do that because I know he's got it in him. Here's hoping this might be that drama.

Like Mimu said he was excellent in Angry Mom, Page Turner and Cheer Up. I was in love with his acting and wanted him to be in everything. Then I watched Moon Lovers. And then he crashed and burned in Strong Woman Do Bong-Soon. That may have been the awful writing, but it left a bad taste in my mouth. I really hope this will be the drama that brings the magic back that he had in his first roles.

(I haven't seen Doctors, Bad Guys 2 or Fantastic so can't comment on those)

I thought he was good in SWDBS and all the other ones you mentioned as well. But in those he was basically the same character - a bad boy with a heart of gold in unrequited love with the female lead. The only part I've seen him try something different was in Bad Guys where he was... not great.

I've watched Doctors and Fantastic but his role was same nothing much to add but for sure Scarlet lovers and SWDBS was his worse dramas.

Wait, I'm confused. I think I also read recently he has confirmed for another drama (I really forgot who is the leading girl lol). So it means he will not only finally get the girl once, but twice this year. Wow. It's a great news.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to see this. I read that Kim So hyun was also offered one Netflix's drama. If this is the same drama, this pairing will be so adorable.

Hi @ohhaeyoung. I really enjoyed Ji Soo's performance in SWDBS. Like you it is the only drama I have seen him in. I was hoping to see his performance in BAD GUYS: CITY OF EVIL (which is more my genre) but it did not happen. I wish him a lot of luck in his first series as a lead.
You give me a chance to share my favorite Ji-Soo photo from SWDBS. It is a cast pic with his police squad buddies:

Why didn't you watch Bad Guys: City of Evil?

It kind of sucks that they asked the more successful Nam Joo-hyuk first, but I'm sure Jisoo can show the world up and do really great in this drama! I've pretty much loved him in everything so far. Special shoutout to his swoony bad boy character in Doctors.

I am sorry that this may sound harsh but the drama title sounds stupid. "First Time at First Love"? Well, you don't refer to it as "First" love if it was not the "first" time that you actually experience love. What the heck?

Anyway, I like Ji Soo in light-hearted dramas. His best performance to me is still as Cha-Shik in "Page Turner". I would have higher hope if this drama is on cable network. The big three networks are no longer relevant these days.

Good to hear that Jisoo has been offered the leading role in a campus drama. In the early 2000s, campus dramas, like the Nonstop franchise, were a great way to introduce new talents and many of them grew to become breakout stars ex: Jo Insung, Jang Nara, Han Yesueul, Hyun Bin, etc. And I remember how the writers were good at making unconventional pairings work. I also think it's an opportunity for actors to play characters close to their age and just have fun.

I'm not a fan of Ji soo. I think his fans put entirely too much pressure on him. It good this first romantic lead is in a teen drama. I really don't think he can handle an adult drama. I feel the same way about Nam Joo hyuk. They are both very handsome and very promising young actors. I just think they need more time to develop. They're both pretty young and neither of them are idols.
