Promos for suspense romance drama Memories of the Alhambra

New stills of Park Shin-hye (Doctors) and teasers for the drama Memories of the Alhambra have been released. With Park Shin-hye and Hyun Bin (Swindlers) leading the cast, and with the writer from W—Two Worlds and the PD from Forest of Secrets helming the production team, it’s one of the most anticipated dramas of this winter.

Hyun Bin plays an investment firm CEO, who travels all over the world for work. When he’s in Granada, Spain, he meets Park Shin-hye’s character, the manager of the old cozy alleyway hostel he’s temporarily residing in. There, he becomes involved in a strange incident that leads him and Park Shin-hye on a suspenseful romantic journey.

Park Shin-hye came to Spain with dreams of becoming a guitarist, but now she’s her family’s primary breadwinner. Even though she’s busier than ever earning money for her family, in her heart she’s never let go of her dreams of being a musician. She’s the type of character who has stayed emotionally empathetic rather than becoming coldly calculating or jaded in her actions, despite the hard circumstances that she and her family are going through. In the stills, she’s shown working as hostel manager and tour guide.

The teasers don’t give us much more in terms of fleshing out the story, but the mysterious beautiful tone of the atmosphere reminds me of Black Knight. The first teaser emphasizes the suspenseful nature of the drama with the dropped phone receiver, the ticking of the train station clock, and an empty train aisle. Then we jump to Hyun Bin who has his eyes closed, and after a quick flash to Park Shin-hye, we hear his narration: “The story begins here. From arriving in Granada.”

The second version of the teaser begins with the scene with Hyun Bin having his eyes closed, while Park Shin-hye runs madly toward something. And after a two-shot sequence of them, we see their encounter as Park Shin-hye narrates “Today, a magical miracle happened in my life.”

Saturday-Sunday drama Memories of the Alhambra will begin broadcasting this December on tvN.

I'm really curious about the fantasy element of the drama. I wonder how they are going to execute the gaming part.

tvN continues to slay me with it’s beautiful cinematography. I’ve not watched either lead actor in anything (although they are both humongously famous), so really looking forward to seeing them for the first time together.

Now i doubt should I watch MotAh or not 🤣🤣🤣 *coz i never finish TH or FBND*

@egads
It has a bad rep, from what I can tell a bad plot, LMH and PSH in it. And although I keep trying I can't seem to love any LMH drama, or his acting (woops) so no, I really really don't hate myself that much hahahaha

8

I watched it. And after the first episode, it became a cultural study/hate watch. While I neither love nor hate LMH or PSH, I do not understand their mass appeal. They are both meh. Kim Woo-bin saved the drama (okay, not really, because nothing could save Heirs), because he's at least interesting to watch.

7

@sicarius I've never seen Heirs but I find LMH's acting hilariously awful. I didn't mind him in Legend of the Blue Sea because I felt it catered to the quirks of his 'performance' i.e the high fashion and posing.

I laughed through City Hunter. ROFLMAO every time he tried to do a vigilante scene and just looked like he was posing for a fashion magazine spread on chic urban badass.

I'm often tempted to watch Heirs just out of morbid curiosity.

10

@leetennant I completely feel you.
Actually I'm mostly just mad at both those shows and their endings for their writing anyway. I thought I didn't mind him in Lobster but he was the least interesting part of that show to me and you could take him out and it'd be better... :P
CH makes me mad on so many levels, don't talk about it with me unless you want a rant about blood red beans. Ahem. That's not really LMH's fault but he didn't exactly help the experience. I just don't connect to his performances at all.

8

@sicarius @leetennant

You should watch Heirs. It's so bad that it's good. Maybe do a group watch on rabbit.

3

Yes, I second that @egads
Just don't watch it.

I actually wish I could erase it from my mind, bc I have never really been able to connect to PSH's acting ever since. I'm hoping this show will change that.

*Sneeks in * LOVE IS THE MOMENT!

I think everybody should watch Heirs for only this song. Songs like Almost Paradise and Love is the Moment just come once in an unlucky while in kdramas 😂
Yeah but regarding LMH and PSH as @egads said both are meh and forgettable actors but surprisingly he brought be to kdramas and was a favorite for years when I didn't explore others *curses BOF*

I gotta say this might be the only show where I had second-lead-syndrom. Enrique annoyed me. Like really really annoyed me.

4

@egads
I honestly haven't seen it either.
Actually I'm pretty sure Pinocchio and YB ARE the only two PSH dramas I've watched. I don't hate her, but I'm not over the moon for her either. lol

6

I think we have a better chance with You're Beautiful because of Jang Keun Suk. @ally-le are you listening? PSH and JKS.

I also haven't watchd You're b'ful.
I actually saw her in heirs, thought was super cute (didn't know her name).. and then chanced upon pinocchio and then learnt her name,

then watched doctors specially for her but dropped it by ep 6, was unbearable.

lol she and KWB were best part about Heirs after that other couple of cnblue guy and krystal

You know, your conversations was so hilarious that it's completely true :D

I only like PSY in You're Beautiful and Pinocchio
I watched some episodes of Heirs and I hate it (the only of Kim Eun Sook drama that I don't like so far)
I dossed when watch Flower Boy Next Door even when I like Dong-gu
I tried Doctors but always failed

So I pray that she will be good in this drama, with writer and the PD, not really because Hyun bin, which I only like him in Secret Garden but disappointed when he made come back in Hyde, Jekyll, Me

Hyun Bin was in my first ever Kdrama that got me hooked. It's called Secret Garden and it's on Netflix. The fantasy element and the music sucked me in, but it was Hyun Bin who captured me. There are many iconic moments from that drama that are used on other ones from time to time. I highly recommend it!

I haven’t seen enough of Park Shin-hye’s work, does she usually have a happy ending vs a sad ending in the romance dept. ? I recall she ended happily in Flower Boy Next Door.

Depends what you consider a happy ending? She had very sad endings in Stairway to Heaven and Tree of Heaven (those are early 2000s melodramas) and in her later dramas she had more or less happy endings.

I don't think the ending of a drama can really be judged by an actors past endings. PSH usually has happy endings in dramas but that doesn't mean this one will have a happy ending.

I'm not familiar with the previous work of either lead; I will be watching this for Chanyeol, who plays Shin-hye's little brother (yes, I'm a die hard EXO fan XD), but I'm quite intrigued by the premise...I really don't know what to expect from this drama, but I hope it will be a satisfying watch!! ^^

Among other reasons, I like kdramas because they show a somewhat different world from the one I'm used to; it's going to be interesting, for once, to watch a drama set (partially) in Europe, even if not exactly in my country, but closer to home than the productions set in Seoul! ^^

This drama really doesn't want to give us much information! I do love this writer and her unique writing but I want to know more of what the drama actually is. The suspenseful romantic thriller aspect has me quite curious but the lack of info hasn't really gotten me anticipating this yet.

lol.. you should say for Hyun Bin's sake the drama should do well.. his last drama that too comeback bombed like never expected.

PSH hasn't had a flop.. in recent years specially and isn't she playing kingmaker

Heirs increased LMH's appeal in China (it was just another level from BoF), pinnochio launched LJS (big time, before this he wasn't counted in the top guys), so on and forth

( not saying she resulted in their success, but she is the lucky lady with immense fan following and as i gather only and majorly because of You are B'ful)

Pinocchio was my first PSH drama and I was flabbergasted as to why she was so super super famous. I ended up watching Heart Strings, Doctors, Heirs (I saw the whole thing!!! Why???) and almost every other drama she has been in. Still I don’t see her appeal...but as always I will watch this one too...

Hyun Bin slays me with his dimples. That’s another reason to watch....

Are you serious?

It's because she is cute, lovely, great personality and caring to everyone she meets, and she pairs up with other famous actors that do well internationally.

I thought she was really cute and spunky on Pinocchio and a nice change from her previous roles, where she can be seen as a bit of a damsel in distress.

It's strange to think that Hyun Bin has been out of dramas for so long (skipping over the unwatchable Jekyll, Hyde) that what feels like a whole generation of Beanies doesn't know him. I hope this drama changes that for them, I think he's one of the best.

I see PSH in the Alhambra in one of the pics. There are plenty of legends about magical stuff that happens there, like hidden treasures in the walls, love curses,...my favorite is the one that says that Alhambra will only fall the day that a hand and a key engraved in the walls will touch each other. My guess is that she will put in motion some curse or spell while she is inside, and that will get the story rolling.
I love the Alhambra and Granada very much, and this is the writer of W, so I have to watch this. Besides that, I'm hopeful for the pairing, I like HB and PSH, fingers crossed they will have chemistry.

Wow are people that young that they hasn't seen a Hyun Bin OR Park Shinhye drama? I'm in my early twenties and I've watched like 3 HB dramas and 5 PSH dramas lol.
Anyhow, I hated Hyde and disliked Doctors so I'm really excited for both to finally grace my screen again. This trailer is giving me positive vibes.

Hyun Bin looking very thin and "cheekboney". I like both of them, even little "Miss Wooden Kiss". She gets great scripts and except for the horrible way she insists on always being force kissed the first time. I've often wondered as she's gotten older if it isn't a standard clause like some Hollywood stars have standard nude scene clauses.
