Drama viewership ratings for the week of Nov. 12-18, 2018

It’s about time to get ready for a whole new round of shows. We got a few of those shows this week, with plenty more coming soon. Of course, that means that the shows we’ve been following (or avoiding like the plague) have to come to an end.

Spy drama My Secret Terrius ended its run on Thursday with 10.5 percent, while medical drama Heart Surgeons ended with 8.4 percent. These two shows performed well in this time slot, though the former brought in more viewers. The power of So Ji-sub, perhaps? Moving on, the fifth season of God’s Quiz premiered and even edged out Hundred Million Stars From the Sky with its second episode.

Over on weekends, romance-turned-melodrama The Third Charm ended with 2.9 percent. The show stayed around 3 percent all throughout, the highest rating having been much earlier on. Joining this time slot was Kim Ji-suk and Jeon So-min’s rom-com Top Star Yoo Baek, pulling in a decent 2.8 percent. If this show doesn’t float your boat, though, just you wait; we’ll be drowning in premieres in time.

According to inkinews as well as r/kdrama, episode 6 of Fluttering Alert on Thursday, November 15 had ratings of 1.8%.

--- insert shameless plug: a show page / recaps for Happy to Die! ---

Anyway, I hope that with the Wed-Thurs shows ending, my beloved show can get higher ratings. But then I also love Choi Jin Hyuk and Lee Yi Kyung (though not the synopses of their new dramas), so maybe let's pray all shows become well received together?

I hope Happy to Die get a better ratings soon since it's a solid show so far. I'm still waiting for Top Star Yoo Baek to be subbed. The decent rating and the overall good reception make me curious to try watching it.

I don't remember any Beanie ever talked about Heart Surgeons after its premiere week despite its strong ratings in Korea. Did anyone watch it here in DBverse?

I wonder which show(s) @sailorjumun was "avoiding like the plague." 😂
For me the "plague" I have been trying to avoid are mostly spoilers.

I don’t think anyone is watching it. I usually give medical dramas a hard pass unless someone recommends it.

Well, I am watching it. Not a fan of medical dramas (the piece of my heart that loves Surgeon Bong Dal-hee just broke). I started for Go Soo and stayed for Um Ki Joon.

Same here @ally-le! I really really want to re-pickup Life because I love Forrest of Secrets and the cast, but hospital politics just does not seem to keep my interest, and the unrelenting bludgeoning background music induces either headache or sleep for me.

I've been avoiding Heart Surgeons, actually. Watching medical dramas is always a hard no for me, unless I really love the actors involved.

🤣 @sailorjumun is avoiding medical dramas like the plague...nice!

Hopefully many doctors wouldn't when the plague actually does come on account of human sufferings.

I’m so sad about the ratings of 100MSFTS... but what to do, I guess it’s not everyone’s cup of tea.

At least I hope the actors will be recognised within the entertainment industry for this drama!

It's not the kind of story that makes cute buzz like the couple of Beauty Inside.

But nobody can deny the great acting in this drama :)

How is HMSFTS making equal or less viewership to The Third Charm? O.o genuinely surprised. I find it to be a far more linear, polished and gripping show. Maybe it's something to do with the genre difference and subject matter?

I think it's because is way too dark and not makjang enough.

Honestly, I often have a hard time understanding Korean viewers: such good shows as "Happy to Die", "100M Stars from the Sky", "Matrimonial Chaos", and "Ms. Ma" have low ratings, but fairly mediocre, not well paced or thought out shows like "Fox Bride Star" get much higher ratings....
I tried to stick with FBS for Chae So Bin and all the cuteness, but I end up FF seventy percent of the episode, so what was the point?!
Why are not people watching the actually good shows?!

There are other good shows in the past that have got good to great ratings in korea. It could be certain themes, topics that do just not garner much interest and viewers and is normal. Also, just because ratings are low on TV does not mean people aren't watching through other means or that the show isn't appreciated by loyal korean viewers.

Regarding Fox Bride Star, I think the decent ratings are partly due to Lee Je Hoon, he's received lots of positive comments from netizens from the first episode and he's very well liked in Korea.

I like Lee Je Hoon but I don't think he's the cause of the high ratings. His last drama, Tomorrow With You, with Shin Mina had extremely low ratings (average 1.7%). I think the fact that Fox Bride Star is a much lighter show tonally than its competitors probably helps.

Tried to edit, couldn't so had to delete.
"It is way lighter than the rest of the shows, but it lacks coherency and proper motivation for the character's actions. It's a mystery, but not a good one. :)

Fluttering Warning, why???
I know the drama is bad, but come on.... It's not worse than daily makjang dramas.

Anyone have any idea why Matrimonial Chaos aired only 1 episode? And are they going to reduce the episode count? 😢

It was preempted because of a baseball game between SK Wybirns and Doosan Bears. Several shows in public channels were preempted to make way for KBO league live broadcasts. Baseball is a big deal in SK.

Thanks. I had assume it is because of a game. Now I am hoping they won't cut the episode count.

This week I discovered Viki has When Time Stops and it was really cute so I watched all 8 episodes they had but the male lead kept bugging me because he looked really familiar but I couldn't place him.... and when I looked him up I realized it was just a very different looking Kim Hyun Joong and then I felt really dirty. (But seriously I could not recognize him until I looked him up, he looked like he was about 23 in this show...I wonder if he had work done??) Aside from him it's a cute low budget fantasy rom com and I did enjoy it.
