I'm still feeling a slump from DramaFever's shut down ... speaking of which, someone on ONTD said they received a $1 refund from them in their checking account but no email about it. I haven't heard anything and had an annual subscription I paid in July - so I thought I should be getting like $30 or so back at least. What about you guys, heard anything or got any refunds? Other than Accidentally in Love (which I'm still working on) I haven't watched any Asian dramas in the last 2 weeks.

I got a pro-rated refund. I paid my annual fee of $38.87 on 10.11.18.

They refunded me $38.23, since they shutdown on 10.16.18.

I paid my annual fee in February and got a total reimbursement! I was expecting it to be pro-rated. I found out about it because of an email from google play store and not from DramaFever themselves.

I got a mass email from Dramafever on October 19 saying they were shutting down and that they'd be processing a prorated refund. The prorated refund showed up in my account on October 23. I'm feeling that same drama slump, I think - haven't bothered to track down the dramas I was watching there. Maybe it's time for me to focus on real life for a while!

Glad to hear that I am not the only one still in mourning over DF demise. But I did have to hunt down a site to watch the end of 100 Days My Prince. So enjoyed Do Kyung-so and Nam Ji Hyun performance. Waiting for the some of the dramas on VIKI to unlock, I am still mad at how Kocowa inserted themselves on Viki in the US. Oh, maybe I should look at the bright side without Kocowa maybe Viki would not have gotten licensing rights to those shows?

Me too . I just subscribed to df like a week back before itโ€™s shutdown and suddenly they went โ€œbam.... thank you mam โ€œon us . Anyways they too credited the full amount to me . But yeah the hollowness because of df shutdown is real people .

and then had just under $30 refunded on 10/20.

Got my refund the Saturday after the DF shutdown. It was pro-rated.
After the shutdown, I tried to subscribe to DF thru Amazon Prime. That worked for 2 more weeks, then it was shut down and a pro-rated refund was issued this week.

The struggle is real! I am still heartbroken and pissed..
DF shutdown is like being dumped by a boyfriend via email! Variety shows are my lifeline nowadays :(

I am in the same DF slump. With only Viki, there aren't many options to watch on Roku. Viki has been slim pickin' lately too and that's frustrating. I was in the middle of watching 3-4 shows on DF when they pulled the plug. Now, all I can do is demand they refund the correct amount. I received an unexpected $4.06 refund from somewhere that I haven't confirmed yet but I'm expecting the prorated amount of $20 from DF. I'm still waiting.
I've since entertained the idea of rewatching some old favorites that are available on Viki but still not satisfied. About 6 months ago, Viki had all the good shows that I wanted to watch. Then in the last few months, DF had all the good shows. It worked perfectly for me to have both when they cycle this way. Now, it's literally a dry spell. Sad LOL

Required fields are marked *

Yes. It was particularly painful to do it THIS cycle because DF went nuts with licenses like they were on a comeback after months of hardly licensing anything (if they shut down THEN I wouldn't have been shocked). I've been checking both my debit and credit card every couple days and I still have not received any refund. The lack of even a mass email telling people what to expect is also pissing me off.

So, I recently discovered that CJ E&M, which was earlier sued because of the Drinking Solo PD, has done damage again.
They didn't pay the workers of โ€œThe Playerโ€ and โ€œThe Guestโ€ for extra work. One of The Player workers even fainted.
And also Room nr.9 and The Priest are forcing the workers to work extra hours.

Behind the scenes stuff like this makes me watch the dramas in a different and worse light :(

Happy Friday, Beanies! There was a seasonal clock change in our country (well, in most EU countries) and I just donโ€™t see the point of it anymore. I feel like it does affect me mentally. Iโ€™ve always been curious about people who live even northern than me. The sunset in my county is around 4 pm in the winter which is so depressing. I canโ€™t even imagine how people live in Nordic countries, I read people have metal problems because of lack of sunlight.

2

Required fields are marked *

I really wish we wouldn't go back and forth for many reasons. And I do believe that it takes a toll on one's health. It will start to get darker around a quarter to five where I am. It's not as bad as in other countries, but still....:(

But then, from December 21st on, the tide will turn and we will slowly start to gain back our minutes of daylight.

8
reply

Required fields are marked *

I think the EU is in talks of ditching this daylight savings thing. I personally prefer winter time (I wake up earlier and feel well rested) but others here in Lithuania would like to keep the summer time (longer evenings).

4
reply

Required fields are marked *

The idea is outmoded and the suggestion that shifting from the normal time to "summer" time is helpful to farmers has been proven wrong by actual scientific research. Further, the time shift is harmful to people's perceptions and metabolisms and the shifts back and forth usually cause a small increase in traffic accidents. So yes, daylight savings time is stupid and should be abolished.

Where I live (AZ, USA) is one of the few places that does not change, and I love it. It might have made sense 100 years ago, but not now - it's just annoying.

5

We change on November 4, and I'm not looking forward to it either. Though the sunset where I live still set after 4:00, I think the shortest day of the year we get is when the sun sets at 4:40. Regardless, I don't see the benefit of daylight savings time change.

7

True that. I'm a little more fortunate with my current work schedule in that I'll still see the sunlight, but I leave in the dark. Sunlight is so important. People will get less and less exposure during this time of year.

Especially when our lifestyle now is very different from our ancestors who used to worked outside more. Some practically donโ€™t see the sunlight in the winter because of their shifts.

It is a crazy system, but no matter the clock time, this is when I start looking forward to 12/22 when we start getting a little more sunlight each day. But in the PNW the other part is just to last through the end of Feb.
With that said

very timely comment on daylight saving. Having lived both US and EU countries, and born and raised in Asia( currently in an Asian country), I must say we hate the system.
My daughter recently got caught with daylight saving. She has been taking an online home school program and one of her classes starts 10 pm and end 11pm. Now she just realized that her class would push back to 1 1pm start and the following day, her class starts quite early( 7 am?). That translate she would have a shorter sleep. We have to change the class in order to keep her healthy sleep cycle.
Our family has been talking how bad this daylight saving scheme! It does numb on your system in particular if you live up north. Our son live in the middle of EU and found that many start more depressed around Oct/Nov and I think this is part due to daylight saving. Not seeing much sun around the area( I mean they hardly see any sun, they only see gray low set clouds) is so hard for northern Europeans then on top of daylight saving!! We must petition to ban daylight saving! Where can we petition it?

OT week 90! I have a special announcement today! On Saturday, November 10th we will be having a Beanie wedding! Itโ€™s high time we had some organized squeeing on the Beanie fan wall. After a couple false starts, Iโ€™ve made myself the unofficial Beanie wedding planner, and we are finally having Lee Min Kiโ€™s official unofficial wedding to our own Beanie, @mindy, with all the embarrassment that may entail!!! EVERYONE is invited and we hope all your โ€œplus oneโ€ oppas are able to attend as well! So get your favorite Min-ki gifs ready, kpop playlists, ballads and sonnets, wedding gifts, etcetera! We still need a few things before the big day, namely an officiant to perform the wedding! (I know there are some lawyers lurking around here, any justices of the peace, chaplains, priests, rabbis?) And there will be a Rabb.it community watch at 8 pm GMT for Dal-jaโ€™s Spring! Come join the festivities! It should be a roaring good time (and someone has pretty much convinced mindy to watch at least two episodes of The Beauty Inside to support her โ€œfiancรฉโ€ in the meantime)!

My mom goes back home today, but did buy a house while she was here, and we were able to watch Splish Splash Love the last 2 evenings. This was a re-watch for me, and it still hit all the right spots. Itโ€™s so good. (Then my son had to enlighten me about messing with historical timelines and creating paradoxes in that girlโ€™s future.) After watching this the first time, I thought that I should watch Tree with Deep Roots, but after watching it this time, I think that I should re-watch โ€œRadio Romance,โ€ or try to go back and finish โ€œLetโ€™s Eat.โ€ My Doo-joon withdrawal is real. But looking forward to Highlightโ€™s new mini-album, where apparently, he will have a solo track! Iโ€™m looking forward to having mom here to watch more kdramas with too!

Dancing High Youtube clips were all I could catch this past week. And Iโ€™m planning on going back and watching the entirety of episode 8 this week. But it was enough to keep my Highlight love alive, with Gikwang being adorable and so excited for his teenagers.

Last Saturday I spent 6 hours at a math competition with the daughter.

My Daughter and the Math Genius: Competition Day.

Me to Math Genius: Congratulations getting second place on the team competition!

Math Genius: We would have gotten first if the team we put together was the team that competed, with me, Chinese boy, and your daughter.

Me: Oh, Iโ€™m sure the teacher had a reason for splitting you guys apart. The other girls have never done this so daughter had to be on that team to help them.

Math Genius: Yeah, but we would have won.

Math Geniusโ€™ mom: [to my daughter] You did amazing, honey, you should be proud of yourself. *Gives daughter a great big hug]* [Then to me out of ear shot] Math genius says he likes your daughter.

Moral of the Story: We are so in.
2nd Moral: More family kdrama...

7

@cherryinbloom Mindy will probably be happier without the makjang, so that's good.

5

@ndlessjoie I think @mindy deserves a makjang portion for her wedding. We need a birth secret, a sudden appearance of an ex, something to cause hair pulling shenanigans that Mindy and her husband can back away slowly from, that remind them that they can get through any amount of drama together.

9

Happy weekend Beanies!

Yesterday and today are public holidays over here, so I am home and able to comment on OT! :D

It also enables me to finally catch up on paperwork, my Korean lessons and cleaning before the weekend. This Saturday I have work in the morning, and in the afternoon my best friend from Korean class comes over to help me prepare. We are throwing our very late birthday party together at my place in the evening and she is cooking Korean for our mutual friends for the first time! As far as I am aware she is preparing onigiri (Japanese okay, but yummy), kimbap, japchae and seaweed soup. I am especially looking forward to trying the latter. ;)

Sunday will be for cleaning up and packing for the next weekend. Next Friday I will not be on OT, because I will be in London with the same friend, attending the solo concert from Ravi from VIXX as VIP, which means we get to meet him before the concert and receive many goodies! I am so excited! Earlier this year we failed to get tickets for BTS in Europe, but for less money Ravi will offer us a lot more, so I am really looking forward to my own holiday weekend of 2018. :D

I also am looking forward to the post-concert days. It has been a quite hectic and stressful period, arranging everything after work, and I really want to return to my peaceful K-drama evenings ;).

He is just so innately talented. I read about him a little after I saw Man from Nowhere (which is on Amazon Prime for anyone interested) and he looks like heโ€™s a real estate developer or something similar now, so I think it would be really hard extricate himself out of that profession to act in anything that requires him to be gone for months at a time. Iโ€™ve never really held my breath about it. With that said, I think he used acting as a stepping stone to a better life, which he did. He didnโ€™t grow up wealthy, lived in a farming community, went to the big city to make money, did that, bought his parents a house, and heโ€™s living his happily ever after. I think heโ€™s probably a really smart guy who can do anything, is good at anything he does, so has found s way to live comfortably out of the public eye for the most part. Actually, I think itโ€™s kind of ingenious.

Beanies, I finally finished Father Is Strange yesterday! And it was such a satisfying, heart warming ending where the audience gets everything we wanted. I even got a couple of things I didnโ€™t know I wanted, like the background bromance of Actor Ahn and all the brothers/inlaws. Also that surprising reminder that Lee Joon is on the short side as he stands at with his arm hooked onto one of his at least half a head taller brothers in law.

Unni becoming a public defender begs a sequel where she is the bad ass neighborhood lawyer. I need more female characters like her in my drama life.

This whole family will have a place in my heart for a long time, from Grandma to doting parents to the fierce sisters with their devoted men, to even uri tall marshmallow hyung and his deceptive wife (who had some of the best character growth of this whole show, from villain to playing victim to penitent to sassy caring sister in law whom I now love whole heartedly).

And, if the first paragraph wasnโ€™t an indication, Iโ€™ve fallen for Lee Joon again. His surprisingly high pitched laugh, his spinning, his cuddliness with his chosen brothers on the show, his wonderful chemistry with real life girlfriend Jung So Min, and the sincerity in his acting.

To the whole cast and crew of Father is Strange, wherever they might be, Fighting!

I miss that drama! I still watch some of the scenes on youtube whenever I need a little laugh, like that scene of the 3 sisters ruining the bride's self esteem whilst taking photos together hahaha

Happy Friday Beanies!

Does Drama Slump = Less Time on Dramabeans?

I had a very busy week and lots of things happening in RL but they can't really explain why I spend less time on DB. I guess it's because of the kdrama slump that I'm in. Even if I browse through the fanwall posts and comments on the 1st page, I can't relate to them much because I am not watching any kdrama.

It's been two weeks and the only thing I am watching is C-drama Ashes of Love. How I wish I can talk more about it on a blog like this!

It doesn't matter @outofthisworld. You can talk about anything, and if it's not too 'weird' there'll be people here who'll relate on it with you. 😉

I had a longish slump after Just Between Lovers. I still watched a few dramas in a desultory way, but I actually found it quite free-ing to no longer feel 'compelled' to put in my 2 cents in the recap threads.

It's good to know that this site is here (I hope for the longest time) to come back to when the next drama addiction strikes! 😎

I kinda understand what you mean. I only comment on Open Thread, because it allows me to talk about things not K-drama related. I do not have time to watch anything right now, so I feel like I am not contributing much on DB these days. I wish both of us can find time and an interesting K-drama to watch soon! :)

I feel you. Iโ€™m not in a drama slump but DB slump. :/ I havenโ€™t been on the fanwall for almost a week now, and just came here for the OT comments.

By Phoenix, you mean Delicious Deng Lun or are you referring to the C drama Rise of the Phoenixes?

I'm still in the early part of the series, around ep 24. I don't normally watch C fantasy dramas and Phoenix had a bad starting - a charred bird. Well, I got a hang of the humor quickly though. I don't think I've seen a kdrama where the female lead almost castrated the guy in the first episode!

Yesss, delicious DengLun! ๐Ÿ˜
I dropped Phoenixes after watching 15 mins of ep 1, it bored me.

That scene where JinMi is about to cut off XuFengโ€™s tumor lol (male part) is one of my favorites scenes in the drama. Itโ€™s so funny. First half of the drama is better than the second half imo, but it did a great job in developing Night Immortalโ€™s (RunYu) character in the second half.

I woke up at that scene. All those fantasy stuff, gods, fairies and CGI made me yawn. I probably nodded off. Then the next thing I know was Jinmi trying to revive an obviously burnt chicken(or so I thought).

2

Oh please do talk about Ashes of Love, I love the grape spirit and the almost fully-burnt bird!

Happy Weekend and OT Everyone!
In the family, 3 of us celebrated birthdays this last week, with 1 other getting in an early celebration for his November birthday. And what did we do for so many birthdays? We had joint celebrations which were the quietest, simple family meals together, twice. Once at a noodle restaurant (Taiwan style noodles with side dishes, very yummy) and once at home. For the noodle meal, we literally went out, ate and went home, with no one in the restaurant any the wiser that, that was a BIG birthday lunch. Every family member was extremely pleased with that arrangement, since no one wanted to draw public attention, and home is where the heart(s) and computer games are.

As for the home meal, given a choice, the son's idea of a good time was to just chill at home and have his favourite salt-baked chicken (x2). So everyone remained happily lazy, except the mother who had to go out to get two chickens, (they don't deliver). The timing to get the fowls was crucial. Too early and they'd not have arrived at the food outlet. Too late and there would be none left. 😨 I'm happy to report that I got the timing just right and was home tenderly microwaving those birds in time for an early lunch. 😋

And how about the cake (I seem to hear you ask)? That was a touch and go thing, since the birthday girl wanted a specific cake and only she knew which cake shop it came from. Since she was busy, we never knew if she'd bring cake home one day. Well, she did manage it on her actual birthday, so we did the kdrama thing of putting on candles and singing the song... except that we added lots of photo taking - of the cake, not the people!!! It was fun, although the weird logic of the frugal child resulted in her getting a big cake, of a flavour she did not like all that much, instead of 2 small cakes of the desired flavour. Why, you ask? Because the 2 small cakes would have been about double the price of the single large cake, and still given us too little to share out. 😆 Kid self-proclaimed coming from a greedy cake eating family, meaning she did not want to share her favourite little cake with the rest of us!! 😜

As you can read in my comment above, this weekend I will throw my very late birthday party. Why? Because I too prefer to relax at home on my day with my favorite dish and as little company as possible. Sadly there are always people who insist on making a big deal out of it. ;)

My dad was heartily opposed to big celebrations. His idea was that it only benefited the shops, and meant nothing to the one who was being honoured. I guess I've imbibed that 'pragmatic' and unromantic attitude!!

okay, I'm here to encourage all US Beanies to VOTE on Tuesday or before! Please exercise the rare opportunity to register your opinion where it counts, at the polls. And get everyone you know to do the same. This is not an election to "let everybody else do it", it's one for the record books but only if we all get involved. How do you want to feel on Wednesday morning? Then do what you can to make that happen on Tuesday! โœŠ๐Ÿฝ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธโ˜‘๏ธ

Thank you for letting me approve my own message ๐Ÿค—

Agreed - over the past year or so gotten really tired of the whining from people that did not vote. But the good news is that some stories say that turnout for this election will be even higher than it was for the 2016 presidential election. No dramas I care about on Tuesday, so guess I will be glued to the election coverage channels.

You can easily see the division in society. Global Warming has affected the political spectrum of world the most.

Happy Friday everyone!
It has been a quiet week here, but the dazzling conversations on rabbit were a delight.
I am pondering what would be the perfect gift for @mindy and her intended.
Let me see...
Something borrowed - it might be difficult to borrow a castle, would a cosy nook do?
Something blue - easy, there's a lovely lake nearby!
Something old - it's hard to choose... Maybe LMK could dress in one of the outfits from Dalja? *pfffft*
Something new - I'll bring you a freshly made bouquet on the day!!!

So....Hundred Million Stars from the Sky...it really looks like the plot is going to end like the J-version. This has really been a year for sad/upsetting Kdrama endings: Mr. Sunshine (IMO totally understandable in the context of the story), Time, Misty, etc.
