I have to tolerate the constant nagging and shock of other people when I declare that I'm single at heart and don't want to have a husband and children. They're always trying to convince me that I'm thinking about it in this way because I haven't found my ideal type of man yet. What a nuisance! I don't have a miserable existence living without a boyfriend/husband. I just wish to live my own life with my own preferences and not according to the society's standards.

I understand you totally. And the worst is: whenever you have a friend who's a boy... I mean, really, a friend (you don't like him, he doesn't like you like that either), then people start making assumptions or even telling you to be careful, men and women cannot be friends and all those stupid comments. Why you cannot be friends with a man? Why? Not all the men in the world will fall in love with you, and the other way around is true, you just don't like any men, not even those you befriend and get to know better, that is just simply not possible and stupid, but simple minded people are always saying something "romantic" will happen!!
I hate it!
I also believe living as a single woman is fantastic. You have freedom and time to be yourself.
If you ever marry, please do it only because you want to share yourself and your inner happiness with someone who deserves it, and someone who is also happy in his own, but want to share life with you.
It sounds very idealistic, but it should be like that.

Haha. Real question you asked.

Downloading Episode 07 now.

I have watched the previews of 07,08 and 09 few times. Listened Uru's Prologue. Lost interest in all other media.
Sports - watching Cricket
News - Enjoying the political debacles all over the world
is enough to distract your heart.
Life and Japanese content taught me patience.

Manga - no translation aka no scanlation or late updates time and again helped me learn how to control your mind and heart.

Happy weekend Beanies!

Hurray, I made it early to OT! Long live leave days! I really should get started on the whole load of Korean homework that is due tomorrow, but up till now I have been crossing off all the other things on my to do list at a snail pace, because today I can.

Yesterday morning my department had a training about extinguishing fires, I am absolutely terrified of fire. The short theoretical lesson taught me a lot, and distracted me from the practical hell that was bound to follow after our short break. The first practical exercise was to extinguish a fire in a fryer with a special blanket, which meant that I had to get really close to that nasty flame. I was flabbergasted that I pulled it off on the first try, despite my inner turmoil.

Well, if you can extinguish a fire with a blanket when you are standing practically next to it, than using a fire extinguisher from further away should be more than fine for someone who is terrified, I correctly assumed. I am proud to say that I only skipped one exercise (I bowed out when they put a bunch of firewood on fire that was bigger than my very small frame) out of the 4-5 we were supposed to do. The instructors also complimented me on aiming horizontally as instructed, instead of aiming vertically right into the flames, like many of my unafraid colleagues did. To be honest I was too scared to even notice that I was doing it the right way. I think it goes without saying that I feel very badass and that I am pleased that I can add that skill on my resume very soon.

I also made a request to get a few more Fridays off this month, because I still have some leave days left this year. I hope my boss grants my wish, because Saturday shifts, Korean classes and job exams take up my free Sundays, and we all need a break once in a while, and I am getting impatient to watch more K-dramas!

My current batch of dramas is almost all Wed/Thr and I think it's overloaded the subbing teams at Viki. They're spread out and working on them slowwwly. Oh well. The exception is Mama Fairy but that show is not as good as I expected.

I wanted to give you guys a head's up about a web series that Kim Ji Suk is in that you might not have seen because it's on ASIAN CRUSH. (AC has a few K-drama series but they're fairly old, like She Was Pretty; it's unusual for it to get something the main services didn't but this is just a web series.) It's called Irish Uppercut which is the name of the bar (it's the name of a bar... in PURGATORY!) and here is the link https://www.asiancrush.com/series/024103s/irish-uppercut/ It's a pretty short series but if you're a fan it's worth watching. Also features Healer's Ahjumma, Kim Mi-Kyung as a Grim Reaper.

Thanks, @alessar! I've watched the first 4 episodes of IRISH UPPERCUT, and it's surreal. In addition to Kim Ji-suk and Kim Mi-kyung, Yoon Bora (OctoPrince Alice in HWAYUGI) plays the second grim reaper.

An even briefer webdrama:

I'm currently watching MAMA FAIRY AND THE WOODCUTTER, so the Shampoo Fairy in this web drama cracked me up even more.

Happy weekend and happy Friday, everyone!

I bingewatched several current kdramas all the way from office to home. Friday will end in 2 hours and i still have a 2-3 episodes to finish (and yet now i stuck in front of lappie watching some kpop boybands ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚)

Its raining season here and i managed to do my last trip of the year last week successfully before the raining season comes in full force. During rainy days i cant go out for my morning jog or cycling (and i cant afford a gym membership ๐Ÿ˜ญ๐Ÿ˜ญ๐Ÿ˜ญ) Most of the time i do simple workout indoors with Youtube.. but right now i end up looking through some of the boybands' nice moves with my cats ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚

I'm still finding the right mood to start Hymn of Death. And I already dropped two kdramas to give way to the new kdramas coming soon

Hi Everyone! I hope you are all doing well today.

Matrimonial Chaos - It's over now and I'm going to miss watching these very interesting, complex characters. I have a little bit of mixed feelings about the ending but I think it may be because the characters made decisions I wouldn't necessarily make. However, my own feelings about the ending certainly don't take away from my enjoyment of having watched it. The drama was well-acted, offered wise words and points to reflect on and funny moments in equal measure which made it a treat to watch.

Happy To Die - Getting out from behind the desk will do the male lead some good. Hopefully he'll learn things quickly.

SKY Castle - I watched the first episode just to check things out, with the idea that I'd only watch this episode ..... then that ending! ..... so I had to watch the second episode ..... then with things not being quite as they appear to be, with a secret (or more) thrown in ..... I now want to watch the third episode!

Will try to fit it another one of the new batch of shows, but we'll see how it goes.

That's all for now. Everyone take care and and have a great Friday!

Required fields are marked *

YES on SKY Castle !!!! That ending on ep 1 and then they did it again on ep 2. I am loving it !!!

Happy To Die- *sigh* So much potential wasted on this show now. I said to myself from the beginning that I really liked Roo Da and I hope the show keeps it going but nope, by episode 11, it is now standard troupe with not just her but the rest of the cast. I am basically hate watching at this point.

6

reply

Required fields are marked *

It's true about Happy To Die unfortunately. I kind of want to continue watching just to see when either Roo-da or Jin-sang will start asking themselves, or each other, what they really have to do to get out of the time loop. I mean, they can't go on forever just trying to stop others' death wishes for him just to avoid the time loop from happening all the time. I assume they'd want it stopped.

3
3
reply

Required fields are marked *

Roo-da knows and Jin-sang doesn't care to know because he believes that he is right and everything that is going his way is 'broken clock right twice a day' things and with that he does not have to change.

2
2
reply

Required fields are marked *

Perhaps I assumed too much for these characters. ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

3

It getting exhausting because she is so obsessed with changing him it is coming at the expense of everyone around her and unlike in the beginning when she became aware of it, she now has tunnel vision and things are just horrible. Team Leader Park and her co workers and even Jung Ho. It was telling when Roo da hung up on Ms Choi when she was telling her not to trust Jin sang. Girl is just not getting it. Telling people he has changed and they should get on board is not how this works. He is awful. He might be right some of the time but, he is awful.

4

Just to pop in:
@korfan Matrimonial chaos will be sorely missed and whilst the ending was ambiguous I'm glad it was realistic, not overly sugar coated and still true to character with a more positive future on the horizon ^_^

I just watched the 1st ep of SKY castle and it's great. I love the almost venomous atmosphere (the educational aspect is like a more poisonous/elite version of Wifes Credentials) and that ending shook me. Hooked for more.

@larelle79 Happy To Die *sighs with you* It had so much potential and even though it's nowhere near done I'm still mad they couldn't put in the fire and snark that was in the original gem of a manhwa. It's getting very cliche now instead of it being darkly humorous, fierce and feisty.

Hello All
I've been testing myself and trying not to turn off timed comments on Viki because sometimes the comments are just out there. I know dramas are fictional but should excuses be made for villains just because the actor is good looking and doing a good job? For me if an actor that I like is playing a villain then I am not rooting for him.
I am watching this drama where there are several villains but two of them are nice looking and both have committed to me some heinous crimes. But I see comments like "He is good looking I just can't help but like him.", "His past has made him like this.", "He's too funny for me to hate." and so on. Plus, this usually applies to males because from what I've read there is no excuse for a female to behave badly. Does anyone have a cutting off point when their favorite is playing a villian?

5

Required fields are marked *

Did not know that Viki still had that timed comments thing. I turned it off I guess a long time ago and never thought about it. I found it just totally annoying with all the silly comments as you mentioned "He murdered his mother, but he is SO CUTE!" type stuff.

I don't know which drama you are talking about but I think I've had the same feelings about Million Stars in pretty much any of the recaps. The main lead did some terrible things and never felt any remorse but mostly people didn't care much and just forgave him as soon as he felt love for the heroine.
Personally this guy IS one of my favorites but I never liked him as a person in this story even though he played it very well.

Required fields are marked *

Wow FBS is from the same writer as RDTK?!!? I didn't know and never would've guessed!๐Ÿ˜ฎ RDTK felt more like a work of a veteran 60 ep Sageuk writer!
RDTK is one of those rare no-nonsense dramas, with a more than 90% perfectness each ep from beginning to the end (I don't deny there were somethings that could've been done better, but those were very few).
I loved even the smallest details such as its epic opening theme music, opening flash card with different cartoons for each ep, and the vintage/sepia lighting of the rural hospital they worked at.
It felt like Doldam hospital was stuck forever in a cozy, soothing autumn evening. So soothing, despite all the bloodshed and pandemonium we had for almost all the episodes.
.
Of course, it might not be your cup of tea, and I hope I didn't get your hopes much too high!๐Ÿค— I just cannot contain my love for the drama, hehe.

I'm probably the only person who disliked RDTK thoroughly. It was just like an old youth anime. Characters changed every episode based on the required episode plot, and the villainy and the antagonists were just RIDICULOUS. And there was no light scene to at least make me a bit happy. I was exhausted and disgusted with everything and everyone by the last episode.

I know this is harsh ๐Ÿ˜ just to put one contrary opinion out there.

So many new dramas starting this season I cannot keep up with them all. I have addicted to k-dramas for years - long enough to recall when there were only networks doing them and there were few choices. But now my brain is getting overloaded. And it does not help that the descriptions of new shows are often pretty useless.

But one thing I see is that many dramas are stepping outside the usual cliches and Book of K-drama Tropes (2nd edition). Shows like "Children of Nobody" and "A promise to the Gods" are not your usual romcoms.

On the other hand I found "Mama Fairy" just too silly and slapstick to make it past the 2nd episode.

But many I have not had time to watch, or just got the first episode or two. Rainy weekend so I should have lots of time to catch up.

@windsun33 I do agree that Children of Nobody has a different feel and mood than the usual shows. It's verging on thriller-horror territory with an 'unreliable' lead!! So intriguing that we never know if what we're watching from her perspective is true or not. I hope the show does not slide into tropeyness 😅 after the mid point, but for now, it's looking good. 😄

Happy Friday all. While 2018 is not yet over, I AM approaching an anniversary of a sort. I've been in love with my bias for nearly a year now. A year minus 10 days to the realisation that I have a bias at all. ๐Ÿ˜… How did this happen? How do I get over it? Am I doomed to die alone? Help.

Morning, Beanies! We had an article in our news about the worldwide decline of insects, and even though we live in an area of rich farmland outside of a city the lack of life is very noticeable. I really get such pleasure from watching dramas, especially outdoor shots with all the noticeable darting and buzzing of life. It's a silly thing, but it validates my k-infatuation and makes me hopeful.

It is real. We started keeping bees this summer and joined our regional beekeeping association. We were shocked to find that even with support and education, beekeepers are running at a 75%-80% loss of hives annually.

@ndlessjoie It's the same here. I have apple trees, we are organic, no pesticides, but my neighbors spray..... We used to have so many native bees but now they're nonexistent (or they've moved on to better pastures.) We've been here for 31 years, long enough to see the changes. No frog, grasshopper, salamander sightings in our lawn but, we are still able to perform our spring ritual of driving around at night, windows down, freezing our a**** listening for spring peepers๐Ÿ˜!!

Hi Beanies!
Can we talk about kpop? Specifically kpop ships?
Iโ€™ll preface this by saying this by saying at best, I casually enjoy kpop. There are probably about 5 groups that I can confidently name all the members. Most of my exposure to Korean entertainment has been through dramas and varieties.
Every so often, I get into a YouTube kpop spiral and end doing a somewhat deep dive into a particular group. Recently it was super junior (I KNOW! Iโ€™m over a decade late to this ๐Ÿ˜ฉ) and BTS. Maybe Iโ€™ll dote over SUJU another day but this is already long so Iโ€™ll get to my question.
More than western artists, it seems like most kpop groups have waaaay more online content. I feel like by design, kpop has a way of sucking you into a fandom by the amount of information available about the idols. We all know that idol images are carefully curated but fans end up feeling emotionally connected to the idols.
So while I was wading through BTS content I came across something I hadnโ€™t seen before. Enter the ships: Namjin, Vkook, Yoongmin etc. At first there were cute videos. I liked seeing the members interact and care about each other. I think one of the gifts of kpop is that gives is a window into positive male friendship. I know across different cultures, physical contact between men, such as hugging and hand holding, is common place. While in other cultures such behavior is seen as weak and unmanly *pushes soap box about toxic masculinity aside for the moment.
Anyway, while I was watching, I came across fan theories that some members are secretly together and the evidence is certain clips of their interaction. Iโ€™m not here to yuck anyoneโ€™s yum but I was somewhat taken aback and confused. First, I noticed that a bunch of clips were taken out of context. When one watched the full videos from which they are pulled, the conclusion is different. Which led me to wonder, how serious are these โ€œshipsโ€ to the fans? I usually relate ships to fanfic so I wasnโ€™t sure how to process the same principle to real peopl. My confusion was compounded by the comment sections. So far, the BTS comment sections Iโ€™ve seen have been pretty positive, praising the group for their accomplishments and general happy fan moments. But sometimes there are shipwars where people go super hard for their alternate ship which leads to arguments. Also I find it a bit uncomfortable to speculate on peopleโ€™s personal lives.
So true kpop fans, whatโ€™s the deal with ships? Are you for, against or indifferent to them? Are they just for fun? Are they real to you?

This was a great read! ^-^
As an army & kpop fan, I personally ignore all the shipping business. Like you, I'm uncomfortable shipping real people (I don't even do it to actors & actresses in dramas), and do agree that in part, the ships stem from a particular (western) way of viewing male interaction. Whether a couple of members are dating each other or not is none of our business and given the whole taboo re homosexuality, we'll never know anyway. So this vehemence in favour of a ship is no different from the vehemence re someone's "purity" et al. I ignore it.

First, @greenfields , will you be my ARMY BUDDY/SUNBAE?lol. No one in my life cares about dramas or kpop ๐Ÿ˜ฉ. Iโ€™ve been dying to fangirl with someone lol. Is Suga your bias? Iโ€™m looking at this from mobile but it looks like heโ€™s your profile pic. Since theyโ€™re a few years younger than me, the love I have for BTS is like the care you have for your friendโ€™s younger brother. Like youโ€™re just happy to see them growing up well and succeeding in life.
Iโ€™m a couple of months into being a fan and didnโ€™t have a bias UNTIL I watched Nam Joon in bapsae and then I was shook by his performance in Ddaeng. The rap line are my faves. I feel like they are among the few artist in Kpop that embody the hip-hop spirit.
I know I have super digressed from the original post but I'm super excited to encounter another fan (and agree with everything you said :) )

Of course! Just tag me in any conversation you want to have. My wall is full of kpop & BTS hahaha ๐Ÿ˜‚

Yes Suga is my bias. My ultimate bias. It's most often his solo songs - such as First Love, So Far Away, The Last - or songs he composed - such as Ddaeng - or his lines - such as in Sea - that stay with me the longest. I admire his passion, perseverance and confidence. All kpop idols have this in huge quantities so perhaps I should say I love the way he communicates it in his music. And his general personality on camera really appeals to me. ๐Ÿค—

Namjoon is my #2, along with Jin. The others are all together or at the same level. ^-^ Bangtan are ๐Ÿ’œ. I've been following them/kpop for a year now.

How about you?
Also do you like any other groups ?

After few years of following kpop I noticed that in fact there is very little information about idols and others performers online, they put a lot of content but there is more fluff than meaning in it. It's not a criticism, just an observation.
Shipping feels icky to me because we talking about living people, and shippers are one of the most toxic fans in k.ent.land.

@shach , I agree with you, the information about idols is mostly fantasy and not necessarily a true reflection of who the idols are. I find that a bit unfortunate because it seems to keep idols stuck in a certain mold and they are judged really harshly if they don't live up to those images.

But to reply to your questions...especially at the beginning of my kpop stan life I wondered if some of those ships might actually be real, I would say that I was mostly affected by some shippers.

But that changed a bit for me since then...ships for me now are just FRIENDships, I enjoy the interactions between the members of the group I like because they warm my heart, I guess! XD
I still question myself at times, though, wondering why I care so much! lol

And I generally tend to let obsessive shipper be, because they are not easy to talk to, they are in too deep! ๐Ÿ™ˆ

Oh, and I can't stand fan fictions based on real people...oops!

Ha, ha, being there too, it's because shippers present their ships with such a certainty, that newbie kpop fans unaccustomed to the kpop level of fans intensity take it for facts.

Give me all the fictional ships but not real people. I like the friendships or even how a hierarchy works in the group. I think this is common though. People still are interested in if the Beatles, Stones, or Nirvana really got along.
I don't like the fanservice at all. Well, when it comes to ships. I'm not sure if the term covers other areas.

It's been a while since I last visited DB. Real life needed my attention, but the main reason I was away was because I was busy watching this one anime, Cardcaptor Sakura. When I was a kid I used to watch it but never get to finish the anime until recently.

It started when I found out about newer season that was aired early 2018, and when I watched all episodes (of this new season) I realised how much I love these characters, so I decided to rewatch the previous seasons and I was totally blown away by the fact that I missed out this gem! What have I done with my childhood!! This anime is so much more than about a magical girl collecting magical cards. This anime is about love, family, friendship, and obviously my favourite couple, Sakura and Syaoran. Watching their relationship progressed from rivalry turns friendship turns lover was so satisfying and even after a few days after I finished with the anime, I am still reeling with so much feels! This anime is definitely has become one of my favourite anime, and I don't regret spending my time watching this anime- even planning to rewatch it again soon!

I am now in withdrawal and I need new anime to watch because I can't stop thinking about them (the downside of binge-watching). Plus, right now I am in the mood for anime. I tried watching dramas but nothing interest me right now. Maybe I am in kdrama slump at the moment...I'll probably back when I recover from this slump. I hope soon because I miss spending my time here.

I'm not sure what type of anime you'll like so I'll throw in a bunch from all I've seen. so, if you haven't seen them give these a try :
Detective School Q, Toradora, kimi ni todoke, Devil is a part-timer, Prince of tennis, Yu yu hakusho, Ouran highschool host club, Golden time and Orange. Most of these are pretty old, so I'll be happy to receive any recommendations for newer ones

Thank you for the recommendations. From the list I have watched quite a few. Definitely will rewatch them when I have time.

Since I wasn't sure your preference I guess I'll just name a few animes I can remember
-Kamisama Kiss
-Noragami
-Sekai wa Utsukushii (this one is a bit...controversional. You'll understand when you watch it)
-Sailormoon Crystal (shorter version of the original sailormoon. Also new adaptation)

I am not a fan of total romance so I dont have anything to recommend. Afterall you've already mentioned romance anime I've watched.

Hi Everyone and Happy OT! What have I been doing with myself ... I hardly know. It's been 50% work, 30% fun stuff, 20% other stuff that one has to do, like prepare for a vacation. I think I'm kind of balanced. 😇

I had to make 3 trips to the travel agent, but that was OK because I work nearby. One trip to be briefed, one to pay (because I chose to pay later!) and one to get the free gifts that came with the trip but which were out of stock at the time I paid. The good thing about this was that I got off my butt and walked a lot. I've been trying to literally up my steps per day. It's hard with a sedentary job, and watching kdramas in front of a nice big screen does not help!!!

My husband aims for and actually succeeds at 10,000 steps a day, several times a week! I'm lucking if I can hit 2,000.

So I was feeling virtuous after the walking I did to change money for the trip, to get the free gifts, to buy stuff we need, etc. The only downside of going away is missing out on the currently airing shows on a large screen, and being too distracted to drop by here at DB. Still, I'll read what I can on my little mobile phone. But that's more than 10 days away, so I can still come around to play until then (I hope!). 😆
