My Strange Hero releases posters and new teaser

“The time that stopped nine years ago, has begun to move again,” says the poster for Revenge Returns. This SBS drama starring Yoo Seung-ho (I’m Not a Robot) and Jo Boa (Temperature) recently released another round of promos including new posters and a third teaser. In the drama, Yoo Seung-ho’s character, Bok-soo (literal translation: revenge), falls in love with Jo Boa’s character in high school.

However, misfortune hits, and Bok-soo is framed as the perpetrator of a heinous assault case, and is subsequently expelled. Years later, he comes back to school with a drive for revenge. But even before he can get started, he becomes involved in a case that makes his plans for revenge skew sideways.

Posters of the main characters are shown above. Of course we have Yoo Seung-ho, playing the titular hero. Then there’s his first love, played by Jo Boa, who becomes a teacher at their old school. Kwak Dong-yeon (My ID is Gangnam Beauty) plays Bok-soo’s former classmate, a two-faced villain who is currently the head of the school’s board of directors. Then we have some supporting characters: Kim Dong-young (Let’s Eat 3) plays Bok-soo’s best friend and CEO of his company, and Park Ah-in (Mr. Sunshine) plays Bok-soo’s cute stalker.

Until now, I didn’t really understand why this drama was described as an awkward warm rom-com because it struck me more as a revenge melo. But this teaser really hits that adorkable tone. A lovestruck voice narrates “Our class goddess is pretty as always today,” as cuts of Jo Boa are shown. In the middle, Yoo Seung-ho’s voice cuts in to say that the initial narrator is completely mistaken, and that it’s all an act.

Bok-soo carries on firmly, saying that Jo Boa is a two-faced multiple-personality individual, and we see that he’s not completely pulling his assessment from thin air. She carries him on the school track, only to dump him on his back a few yards later. She swears like a sailor toward him, when she’s alone in front of him, so his opinions of her are not so positive.

But that all changes in the school clinic, when she offhandedly comments to him that he was kinda cool earlier and that she’s looking forward to seeing more of him. At that point, he realizes he’s been struck by cupid’s arrow, and he asks her out on a date. In that cute tsundere manner, she says she won’t date an idiot. But clearly, she’s not too opposed to his advances because they go on night-time scooter rides together.

Then begins all the tragedy. A student falls, yelling for Bok-soo to save him. After a time lapse, we see that Bok-soo brushes past Jo Boa, at a wedding, and he’s just as affected as he was nine years ago. The teaser ends with a shot of them together on the school rooftop with the one-line: “Bok-soo has returned.”

Wow, I’m much more excited than before about this drama. SBS’s upcoming Monday-Tuesday drama Revenge Returns begins on December 10.

I've kind of lost excitement for dramas (#slump), but this looks cute :) Seriously, Chae Soo Bin and Jo Boa are the only 2 actresses who can make a girl who spouts profanities like a sailor look cute, sassy, and spunky ;)

Me and you both. I've been watching about a decade and I think I'm finally getting tired of it. I didn't watch very many last year. I can't tell you how many I just dropped and never finished. I might try this one because I've never actually watched one of this guy's drama before. I like her though.

I can list, at the top of my head, all the dramas that I've watched and finished this year, and it's not that many either XD

Hmm. I cannot think of any revenge rom coms that have really worked in the past, maybe this one will. Kind of like putting strawberry jam on bacon - both are yummy, but mixed.. not so much.

I'll give it a 10 to 15 minute chance. If it doesn't hook me by then, forget it.

Ahhh it was around this time last year we were delving into the warm and fuzzy I'm Not a Robot. Interested to see what kind of vibe this will bring. Going to try my hardest not to compare the two.

Maybe the top poster reminds you of the high school in AM 98?

I'm excited for this new Yoo Seung-ho drama. I've seen him several times in dramas starting from Queen Seon Dok to the latest I'm Not a Robot and he has impressed me with his cute lovable acting.

There are a handful of people whose dramas I would watch for no matter how the plot may fail. Seung-Ho is definitely one of them. (Forever biased and unashamed.) Fingers crossed that Seungho’s picked a good script but will watch this nonetheless!

Side note — ANYONE ELSE GETTING HWANG BAEKHYUN VIBES? HELP. I’ve missed you soooooo so much.

I"m confused.
He' back at old school to be a student?
His old classmate is the school director at 27 years old?
