Junho confirmed for new tvN drama Confession

2PM’s Junho (Greasy Melo) has recently announced his drama comeback through tvN’s upcoming Confession. This drama is a legal thriller about a lawyer who pursues the dirty truth, hidden and protected behind the laws prohibiting double jeopardy.

Junho plays the main character, who has a tragic backstory. He’s a character who looks like he’s weak, but inside he’s actually very strong of heart and serious of mind. He was born with a congenitally defective heart, and spent most of his childhood in hospitals.

By some miracle, a heart donor appears, and he gets a second chance at life. However, soon after the surgery, his father is accused of murder and put on death row. He begins his career in law to re-investigate his father’s case.

What’s really gotten me excited is the director, Kim Chul-gyu (Chicago Typewriter), who produced the critically acclaimed Mother from last year. It was a hit drama that won Best Drama at the 54th Baeksang Awards, Best Miniseries at the Seoul Drama Awards, and it was even nominated for Best Series at the Cannes International Festival.

Confession is slated to be broadcast on tvN starting March 2019.

Eat your heart out Mishil lol.

Anyway, back to reality....Forest of Secrets, Cruel City, Conspiracy in the Court etc were excellent thrillers with noobie writers.
Here is hoping 🙏🏻.

I don't find the writers history. Gah... It's frustating when our fav PD working with the writers we don't know or a newbie... We can't imagining the exact outcome.

2

I think it's great sign to see an experienced PD working with a new writer, one can only imagine the script should be really good and compelling in that case...

Besides I learnt the lesson from Greasy Melo which had a popular, experienced writer and was a complete mess - I have never watched the other works of the writer but after GM I really have no desire to...

3

They offered him the role back in October, and he didn't confirm until January. Tvn was rly holding out for Junho it seems. The boy is slowly turning into hot commodity these days, and it's well deserved imo.

Junho casting news is always good news!! I was sad that I couldn't get into Greasy Melo, so it will be nice to have him on my screen again!

I can't say I'm the biggest fan of legal thrillers, but with Junho and the Mother PD on-board, I'm definitely going to check it out. And thank you @tineybeanie for the Mother shoutout! <3 I hope you've seen it! Seeing the Editor's Picks and noticing how no one on the DB staff seemed to have seen the show saddened me, and it deserves all the recognition it can get!

And the heart donor’s daughter is a prosecutor who is suspecting Junho’s hidden motive of investigating the old murder case (he has to hide it to gain his law license because the world is messed up), and her fiancée/sunbae was part of the investigation as a newbie Prosecutor years ago.

Let’s write the drama, Beanies!

19

Thanks @kimbapnoona, @jig and @ultramafic I don't need to watch this one anymore, because it was all laid out here.

Maybe the plot twist is that love interest/heart donor's daughter's fiancee/sunbae Prosecutor-now-Judge suspects his uncle was the real killer, but he hid the evidence because uncle is a politician who could help his career.

12

@justme @egads @ultramafic @crysta @kimbapnoona

These are the literal actual best. beanies should be writing dramas. i am bookmarking this thread to come back and remind myself how beanies called it looong before it aired :D (if the show's writer doesn't have this in mind, what are they even thinking?)

A skilled director will enjoy helping to bring out the wonderful performance we know Junho is capable of. And so soon! Only a couple months to wait. I do love when Junho gets dark and melo.

Wondering where the whole double jeopardy part comes in. Was the "real killer" already charged and acquitted for whatever murder his father was supposed to have committed?

Thanks for happy casting news, @tineybeanie! I'm tickled to bits that Junho has another drama in the works before he enlists.

I can see it all now: The real murderer frames a schmoe with a kid needing a heart transplant to throw investigators off the track. But only someone with access to the young patient's medical records would know his blood and tissue-matching requirements, so the killer may actually be a medical person concealing evidence of malpractice.

Or will Truck O'Doom be an automotive accessory to murder? ;-)

@kiara,

Good to see you too, sunbae-nim!

You bet I'm watching THE CROWNED CLOWN! I totally enjoyed the premiere episodes. I'm glad I recently watched the movie again to refresh my memory. The drama follows it closely, but has added more characters and a twist that makes me wonder how the ending might differ from the movie.

I really liked the hazelnut scenes, especially with the lovely outdoor foliage. Trivia: the temple where the King is hanging out was Lee Hwi's hideout in GRAND PRINCE.

Manseh, it's going to be recapped! Thank you!

I'm also just over half-way through 81 episodes of JUMONG / PRINCE OF THE LEGEND, and enjoying it very, very much as a warm-up for THE CHRONICLES OF ASEUDAL. Holy moly, it's addictive. They don't make 'em like this one nowadays. ;-)

Are you in love with Song Il-gook yet?

6

Required fields are marked *

@kiara, I became a Song Il-gook fangirl (a word that entered Webster's in 1934, as opposed to fanboy, which dates back to 1919!) when I watched KINGDOM OF THE WINDS, which was a mere 36 episodes or so. The filming style is quite different from current dramas, with long, lingering close-ups, and long takes, especially in the fight scenes and battles with many extras -- which nowadays seem to consist of spastic jump cuts. This is much easier on my eyes.

I'm getting a kick out of how many actors I recognize among the cast of thousands.

3

Oh, you are watching JUMONG!!! My first drama, my first love!!! I cried so much over Hae Mo Su.

To continue your Asadal warm-up, may I suggest The Kingdom of the Wind? It's like a sequel to Jumong, also with Song Il Gook.

Required fields are marked *

@wishfultoki,

Thanks so much. I have already watched it, but may go bonkers and give it a rewatch. It's a little confusing because in this one Song Il-gook is playing his own grandson. Kind of like Jo Hyun-jae playing the future King Seong of Baekje in THE KING'S DAUGHTER, SU BAEK HYANG and his great-grandson, Mu, the penultimate King of Baekje, in SONG OF THE PRINCE. ;-)

4

@wishfultoki,

Yes, Heo Jun-ho is great as Hae Mo-su. I was really surprised to see the elder Dr. Lee from BEAUTIFUL MIND -- and Psycho Killer Dad from COME HERE AND HUG ME -- playing such a swashbuckler. ;-)

3

Girls, Heo Jun-ho will always be Hae Mo-su to me. He has been in a couple sageuks after Jumong but it's a no no no and no for me. He is Hae Mo-su end of story lol.

4

@pakalanapikake I saw your comment after I had posted by recommendation... Song Il Gook somehow manages to play 18-year old scamps and 60-year old kings and always looks convincing to me.

No way! Hae Mo Su was the killer dad in Come and Hug Me? Like @kiara "Heo Jun-ho will always be Hae Mo-su to me."

4

@wishfultoki, @kiara,

Yeah, Hae Mo Su reincarnated as a serial killer -- after being a neurosurgeon.

I kind of wish I'd seen Heo Jun-ho in a sageuk first. Oh, wait. I did. I watched the first 3 episodes of JUMONG, and chickened out when it looked like the Han were going to execute him a la BRAVEHEART. It's just that, at the time, I wasn't familiar with many Korean actors. It reminds me of watching REBEL (which premiered nearly 2 years ago!!!) and being blown away by Kim Sang-joong's portrayal of Amogae. It was the first time I'd ever seen him, IIRC. About 3 months after the show ended, I recognized him in LIFE IS BEAUTIFUL as a confirmed bachelor uncle who gets roped into marriage by his Japanese resort mogul's CEO daughter. Anyway, HJH really is terrific as HMS.

As for Song Il-gook, his horseback and martial arts scenes are great. And when he's shooting arrows on horseback, he's magnificent.

2

I'm here because of ms.PP's notif in Crowned Clown recap, and thought of liking all the posts and walking out because I haven't watched JUMONG and can't paricipate. But I didn't know the term you used up there and decided to look it up. And here's the result I got.
Once, a friend called his teacher, “saengson-nim 생선님,” and everyone laughed, because it was the wrong word (it literally meant “fish”). ... Joking aside, “teacher” in Korean is, “sonsaeng-nim 선생님.”. ... When you’re calling other teachers a teacher, however ...

Pssst, @peony... I looked it up, too, and found the same post. I was going to ask the same question, and thought better of it. But I can't resist a variation on a spoonerism. Please forgive me, @kiara sunbae-nim.

If I were a fish, I'd be a nice protective mano, or a know-it-all Irish salmon in the Well of Wisdom after eating the 9 hazelnuts that fell in the drink. There's a reason why I loved that scene of Ha-sun collecting filberts. They're tasty. Who knew they could make you smarter? My ancestors. But they never mentioned any wish-granting powers over the household gods. ;-)

Hmm. I genuinely am wondering who's the bad girl here. You or me? Looking at your comment, at 1st it seems like you didn't mention it because you had better manners than me, but on the 2nd glance it seems like you deliberately left it there for somebody else to happen upon it and take on the job. If I didn't see it, and nobody else either...you intended to bury this forever as a landmine? Woah.
And there's always the possibility of me misunderstanding your complex English.😆😅 At least I once again learned a new word. spoonerism
I'm MORE than familiar with this condition, but never thought that it had an actual scientific term! 0.0
.
Snorts at your "underwear" mistake. Funny thing is, I read it the same way. My mom says I'm probably used to read the first few letters of a word, and speculating the rest subconsciously, and that's the reason why. Don't know about her accuracy, but I think I believe it.
.
OH I've heard about the Salmon of Wisdom! Putting its scales over your ears, tongue and eyes apparently grants you the abilty to understand any speak any language?
.
P.S.- Humona. I don't pick on Kiara sunbaenim? Didn't you notice that I paired up my "picks" with praises?
HOWEVER, on a different topic I find it very curious that she calls you teacher and you call her sunbae? Quite a peculiar relationship, that is.

2

There are no bad girls lol. That's why I call @pakalanapikake teacher.

1

@peony, @kiara,

Heaven preserve us from typos, spoonerisms (and kniferisms & forkerisms), malapropisms, and mondegreens. ;-)

Methinks @peony is feeling especially exuberant, eh, @kiara? Her high-spiritedness makes me feel like such an old geezer in comparison. I'll have to put on my track shoes to keep up with her in the CROWNED CLOWN recaps.

We'd better clue her in to our mutual Hawai'i connection: I taught ESL to Japanese college students, and you have kinfolk there. Hence "sonsaeng-nim" and my reference to mano (shark). But since @kiara has been watching sageuks and has been a student of Korean history way longer than me, that makes her "sunbae-nim."

The downside to being the Salmon of Wisdom is that the person becoming wise eats the fish. Hmmm. I have to reconsider this. Sounds uncomfortable. Are you maybe thinking of the Babelfish in The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy? ;-)

2

*Blushing furiously* ☺☺☺ I was smiling ear to ear with all my teeth in display for about 2 minutes after reading this. Thank you. I'm SO honored!! I feel like I've accomplished something great here at DB!😁
I'm high-spirited? I thought I I was the one who had to struggle hard to keep up with you guys? I left for shower, and here both of you have answered to my Kim Gae-shi question when I returned!
.
I remember reading about your Hawaii connection. Thanks for the further explanation about your respective titles. It makes sense now😅. And thanks again for sharing your sorta personal story with me!
.
Wellllll...I'm talking about the Irish fish of course, but I have to embarrassingly admit the place where I gathered this piece of information is...a fanfiction.*goes into hiding* You're right about having to eat the fishie. It's only now I remember that in that particular fanfic, the hero was feeling nauseous about the ordeal and the Salmon reprimanded him, saying 5 scales would do the deed.
I haven't heard about a "Babelfish in The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy"? 🤔

2

@pakalanapikake

*bows* I'm not worthy.

You are the sageuk queen. I've enjoyed every single sageuk and discussions that we had together <3.

Much respect to my teacher.

2

@peony,

I hate to admit how much I reference Wikipedia articles. I have no idea how correct they are. That's one reason why I usually cite the URLs when I pontificate. Just naming my sources.

I like the idea of the Salmon of Wisdom shedding a few scales -- mainly because I'm not much of a fish eater, and especially don't like salmon in real life. Oops. ;-)

Here's the scoop on the Babel Fish:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iuumnjJWFO4

@kiara, Sunbae-nim, I have to most respectfully beg to differ. Much of what I've learned about sageuks has come from you and other Beanies. <3 Maybe we sageuk fans are part of a hive mind. LOL!

1

Ah I think I get it now. You don't want to be held responsible for false information, and now it's more like muscle memory to just cite the link and not quote anything?
I honestly don't know whether I should be awed or amused or bemused at that Babel fish vid. Probably the most ridiculously awesome thing I watched!🤣
I too hate salmon but love other fish. And hate meat.😂😅 However salmon/chopped carrot/baby corn/mayonese paste is delicious with pancakes/paratha.
