Lee Dong-gun and L to join Shin Hye-sun on new KBS fantasy drama

Shin Hye-sun, Lee Dong-gun, L

Lee Dong-gun (Fox Bride Star) and L, also known as Kim Myung-soo, (Miss Hammurabi) have been added to new KBS drama Dan, Only Love.
The two actors will be joining Shin Hye-sun (Thirty But Seventeen) who confirmed casting last month.

The story of Dan, Only Love is a fantasy romance involving a cold-hearted ballerina and a mischievous angel.

Taking on the role of the ballerina is Shin Hye-sun. The character’s name is Lee Yeon-seo and  is described as a rare beauty to behold, but underneath, her personality is like ice.

L will be playing the angel, Dan. He’s bright and optimistic, but also a playful prankster who’s always causing trouble.

Lee Dong-gun will then be playing Ji Kang-woo, artistic director at the ballet company. He’s well known in artistic circles for having an exceptionally discerning eye and skilled at drawing out hidden talents and abilities of the dancers.

I’m a little wary of the writer, Choi Yoon-kyo, who previously worked on Lucky Romance. However, directing is PD Lee Jung-seob who has several solid credits including Hong Gil Dong, Healer, and Neighborhood Lawyer Jo Deul-ho 1. PD Lee was also the director of Seven Day Queen and Dan, Only Love will be his second time working with Lee Dong-gun.

I’m torn as I’m not sure how the drama will be incorporating the fantasy element of the story and I’m having trouble trying to wrap my mind around how angels and ballet connect. However, I do like fantasy and sci-fi stories so it would be really awesome if the drama pulls it off well. The director is a plus as well and it helps that Lee Dong-gun is one of my biases. I guess I’ll keep an open mind and hope for the best for now!

Upcoming KBS drama Dan, Only Love is currently set to air later this year in May 2019.

I really like Lee Dong-gun and Shin Hye-sun but I have huge reservations about L. He is not the greatest actor imo. I also can't see him as a bright and optimistic character as everything I've seen him in so far has been serious or angsty characters. Maybe a bright and bubbly character is exactly what he needs though.

I have never been a big fan, but I think L has improved quite a bit in his last few projects. Like you, I'm wondering if this type of character will be just what he needs, cause he seems to struggle with actually enjoying the roles he plays, and this one seems like he'd have a lot of fun.

L is so handsome and a terrible actor. Shame really. Although he's not the first or the last handsome guy to get by on looks alone.

L was awesome in Miss Hammurabi. He needs a strong director at times and I see that the current director is a wonderful one.

L was actually good as the bubbly and mischievous secretary in SLY AND SINGLE AGAIN. He was a minor character though, so this is a lot more challenging.

I think I am most looking forward to seeing Shin Hye Sun in another lead role! Loved loved loved her in 30 but 17 and Hymn of Death.
L and Lee Dong Gun are a great addition.
This looks like it has slight Padam Padam vibes but a different angel angle haha.
Summer kdramas are shaping up!

Another one to look forward to. Lee Dong gun and "L" are the two reasons I'm interested. L playing an angel, he looks like an angel already. I've only seen him in Miss H which I thought he was just fine.

How to read this title? "Dan is my only love" or "All you have to do is love, Dan!"

I will have to check out this show, if only what to find out what that strangely placed comma is trying to tell me.

Lee Dong Gun's character is a chaebol as the Ballet company director and will supply the corrupt politics.

Pass. I don't seem to be able to finish most fantasy dramas even when I do like the cast.

I better not watch this. I'm already shipping the ballerina with the angel and shouldn't be on a sinking ship when the show hasn't even started yet.

Or we could just wait for the ending... Unless it pulls a Mama Fairy on us...

The picture order is random :)

I'm guessing the main pairing is Shin Hye-sun and L, but there isn't a lot of information on the story yet.

I just assumed that the ballerina was not going to end up with the angel. Seeing as he's an angel and all that.

Hahaha @yyishere, that's it!
L is the Korean Keanu Reeves!!!

Pre-John Wick haha. Imagine L as John Wick🤣🤣🤣🤣

Angel will restore her sight. In return, she designs fire-proof briefs for him. That's the reason why he's briefless in the pic above. He's so hot his butt self-combusts every time he sits, see.

I hope Lee Dong Gun's role will be more substantial than "Where Stars Land". He was completely wasted in that role. He was really great in "Queen of Seven Days".

I wish that Lee Dong gun would be cast as the lead one day, a proper lead on primetime channels. He was wonderful in Sweet 18 and Stained Glass. Give him a good role, and he'll deliver. Look at how Hyun Bin is making viewers giddy with his acting and those dimples. This could be the year of comebacks for older stars, and what a comeback Hyun bin has made. I'm watching Hyun bin shows now, and I can't stop. Help. I'm turning this into a Hyun bin fangirl post. Lolol.

This is meeeeee lol I've been turned into a Hyun Bin fanatic these past few weeks I'm so obsessed. I liked him after secret garden as well but for some reason, he has just won my heart with Memories of the Alhambra.

Must be the dimples 😍 and the constant knowing smirks... They just shoot me in the heart.

Oh God, not this writer again!! What pisses me off the most is that she'll get interesting premises and turn them into....something else... Take Lucky Romance for example, and what did we get? I didn't even watch that, thank God.

And now this...everything is interesting to me;
the female lead is the cold hearted one, which is not common,
she's a ballerina, I've not watched a ballet Kdrama
He's an angel..fantasy
Second male lead is Lee Dong Gun and granted, they'll make him shady with unknown intentions but still,
Last but definitely not least, the director. I loved loved Seven Days Queen and how vibrant and colourful he made it, and I enjoyed Healer as well( of course)..Y'all know what that means right? Lots of Ballet dance sequences..that has me beyond giddy....then I remember the writer...*sigh*

Lee Dong Gun is so good in everything he is in that I just root for him regardless if he is the hero or the villain! I rooted for him in 7 Days Queen, Sketch & Where Stars Land, as he was able to imbue his characters with so much depth that he wins me over with his misguided intentions, regardless of how insane they may seem.

@tccolb, I'm late to the party, but wanted to mention that DAN, ONLY LOVE has been bugging me. I have such a feeling of deja vu -- as well I should. @awcoconuts reported in 2017 on tvN's casting news for a drama about a heck-raising half-angel originally named Paul (pronounced "fall" in Korean). Shades of BLACK's grim reaper-mortal hybrids. Now that's an interesting twist. ;-)

If I hadn't found the earlier DB report in my Kdrama log, I could have sworn that DAN, ONLY LOVE was the show announced in 2017 as PAUL FELL FROM THE SKY / FALL FROM THE SKY.

http://asianwiki.com/Paul_Fell_From_The_Sky

Alas, FALL has not come to pass. Yoon Hyun-min got promoted to deity, only to be kicked out of the celestial realm for doing ungodly stuff in MAMA FAIRY AND THE WOOD CUTTER. Ahn Woo-yeon became a fussy food blogger in LET'S EAT 3, and is appearing next in the tale of a bank auditor with Kim Sang-joong as the titular BANKER. Amogae from REBEL scrutinizing cooked books?! Namgoong Min set the bar for auditors incredibly high in CHIEF KIM. ;-)

Of the two premises, I actually like FALL FROM THE SKY's better. I'm a sucker for halflings. The icy ballerina reminds me a little too much of the second lead female in FATED TO LOVE YOU. -- Even so, that won't prevent me from tuning in. I hope Lee Dong-gun gets some sort of happy ending. His character in SKETCH got a dreadfully raw deal. Give the guy a break already. ;-)

@pakalanapikake, Paul Fell From the Sky does have a good premise, I wonder why it got shelved... And the second leads in general for Fated to Love You were poorly used unfortunately. Jang Hyuk was amazing though, I stuck through to the end because of him lol

@tccolb,

It's a mystery to me, too. I've been trying to keep an ear to the ground for FALL FROM THE SKY ever since it was announced. I have a feeling that the casting may have "fallen through." Or maybe the incoming wave of exorcism dramas put the kibosh on it. LOL.

I agree about the second leads in FATED TO LOVE YOU. I, too, loved Jang Hyuk in it, and watched the whole thing even as the sneaky islanders slipped him another mickey in the end. Sheesh! The opening scene of the shampoo commercial shoot is one of my all-time favorite performances he's done. It was enough to vaporize my Clairol Herbal Essence. ;-)
