Premiere Watch: Neighborhood Lawyer Jo Deul-ho 2, The Crowned Clown, What’s Wrong Mr. Poong-sang

2019 is off to a strong start with a new crop of dramas for your viewing pleasure!

Neighborhood Lawyer Jo Deul-ho 2

Time slot: Monday & Tuesday
Broadcaster: KBS
Genre: Legal comedy
Episode count: 32 episodes

Reasons to watch: Our favorite underdog lawyer is back! Neighborhood Lawyer Jo Deul-ho‘s first season aired in 2016 and fans have been eagerly waiting for season 2 to come together. Park Shin-yang will be reprising his role as the titular Jo Deul-ho, with Go Hyun-jung joining the cast as his new foil. Poor Jo Deul-ho always stood tall against injustice, but he’s fallen on hard times when season 2 starts. After having his law license revoked, Jo Deul-ho attempts to deal with the aftermath of having lost his livelihood. Try as he might, he can’t seem to catch a break. We’ll have to tune in to see if Jo Deul-ho can turn things around for himself.

The Crowned Clown

Time slot: Monday & Tuesday
Broadcaster: tvN
Genre: Sageuk
Episode count: 16 episodes

Reasons to watch: Yeo Jin-gu stars in this sageuk, The Crowned Clown (literal title, The Man Who Became King) and he’ll be playing the role of the king and his doppleganger clown. The drama is remake of the hit 2012 film, Masquerade. King Yi Heon faces numerous threats on his life, and growing ever more desperate and unstable, he decides to place an imposter on the throne while he devises a plan to save his life. The clown, Ha-sun, initially finds the crown a heavy burden to bear and fears being discovered as an imposter. However, he eventually grows more comfortable governing and finds himself falling in love with the queen (played by Lee Se-young). Will the king or the clown win the queen’s heart, and who will manage to hold onto the throne?

What’s Wrong Mr. Poong-sang

Time slot: Wednesday & Thursday
Broadcaster: KBS
Genre: Family, comedy
Episode count: 40 episodes

Reasons to watch: What does a brother have to do to get some love? The oldest of five, Lee Poong-sang (played by Yoo Joon-sang) has always cared and provided for his younger siblings, played by Oh Ji-ho, Jeon Hye-bin, Lee Shi-young, and Lee Chang-yeop. But his ne’er-do-well siblings have always taken Poong-sang for granted and caused him endless heartache. The drama will follow the Poong-sang and his family’s ups and downs. Maybe this dysfunctional family will learn to be a little more loving and considerate of each other. It’s unusual to see a primetime family drama and the cast is stellar so my interest is officially piqued.

You are on the job @ordinaryguy92! Thanks for the ratings updates.
For those interested. MY LAWYER is available on Kocowa.
I was super pleased a short while ago to discover THE CROWNED CLOWN available subbed. You know the drill.
(A little rant--if DramaFever was still around TCC may have been available there, but alas no.)

Update. I just discovered that THE CROWNED CLOWN will be shown on Viki. Somehow I missed that it was Coming Soon.

Lawyer Jo is also on Viki. I'm not sure I'm interested in season 2 ... I was watching it more for Kang SoRa in season 1.

I wish I have the time to watch all 3 dramas.
I am a sageuk geek so THE CROWNED CLOWN is a must.
LAWYER JO has a more than worthy opponent in Go Hyun-jung. A modern day Mi-shil (it's wrong but it's right).
I have a soft spot for every stage/musical actors and Yoo Joon-sang is one of my fave since HEARD IT THROUGH THE GRAPEVINE.

Aigoo ....what to do?

I think I'm in love with this PD. Finally, someone who actually takes casting seriously. Wish others would use former child actors more as leads instead of idols/models who can't act. There's so many underrated ones. So glad Lee Se Young is a lead now. I heard seolhyun was cast in a sageuk and got an aneurysm.

I l0ve him even more for getting Jang Hyuk on board to play Yeo Jin-goo's father. It's too bad it's only a cameo but maybe it's for the best because I'd have a heart attack with the two of them in a whole sageuk.

I am so so happy for Lee Se Young. She has always been good but have been under the radar. She carries herself well in sageuks and I hope that she'll have more screen time.

We have so many sageuk fairies to choose from but you know the CF princesses will get the first pick.

The PD is actually a she! Pretty cool, since female PDS seem to be less common(and vice versa amongst writers).
Ha, true. Still, justice for Lee Tae Ri(cough, the superior lee min ho) and Noh Young Hak! And Seo Young Joo, who's insanely good but let's keep telling ourselves there's a shortage of talented actors in their 20s. *rolls eyes*
Luckily, a lot of underrated talented former child stars like oh seung yoon, jung in sun, and kim bora are seeing the light the past year in successful dramas so that's always nice.

4

@sparks121

Thank you for the correction :). Pretty cool indeed.

I love love love them all! I really miss Noh and our younger Lee Min-ho in sageuks.
Seo had a small role in GYEBAEK and still remember that. He is talented, he is like the male version of Chungmuro's indie darlings.

2

Really cool. She was the PD of Money Flower hence the Jang Hyuk connection. IIRC, that was her directorial debut too so for her to helm The Crowned Clown is really something on multiple levels.

Waiting for the moment nam Da Reum gets a shot at being the ML of a drama series. I hear 2019 will be the year. That boy has such a bright future ahead. At 16, he's already a veteran!

I'm glad, although I will wait for a bit before watching it. I hope it stays great throughout.

I watched the 6, 1-minute trailers TVN put out and was completely blown away by Yeo Jin Goo's acting of the 2 completely opposite characters, just from the teasers alone. Pure talent right there. So this drama has got me really interested

I'm not fully on board with that first ep but I'll reserve further judgement until the 2nd at least. The writer is a total veteran and has a ton of hits under his belt, but he's been underwhelming as of late so we'll see about this one.

I love Yeo Jin-gu and I am excited for The Crowned Clown, but I am way less excited when thinking about the possibly torturous experience watching a love triangle with two YGSs and trying to decide which ship will or will not sink. Maybe I need to spoil myself by watching the movie first.

I saw a forum thread somewhere asking who's better, Yeo Jingoo or Yeo Jingoo. And everyone's fighting that Jingoo is of course better than Jingoo, and others would retort saying how can Jingoo be better than Jingoo, when Jingoo shines more. I can't. xD

I saw it somewhere in theqoo last night and couldn't find the exact title anymore. TT_TT But I don't think we'd be able to reply to it anyway, it's a Korean forum and their registration is restricted.

But this is the sub-forum for The Crowned Clown in theqoo, the posts are fun to read. They post lots of interesting stuff and discuss random moments from the drama.. https://theqoo.net/index.php?mid=dyb&group_srl=915078384

So many posters are saying they are ready to drink the poison, because they couldn't help but root for the king atm loool.

Required fields are marked *

I do have to concede @weaselking that your bias Jingoo is incredibly hot, but my favorite Jingoo is hopelessly haaaaawt!! 😆

7

@kimbapnoona Ok sure, Jingoo is extremely hot AND sexy and sure I admit that jawline should be made illegal, I know that, but Jingoo is still more talented and that frigging voice?? Jingoo's voice alone can easily win this debate.

7

@weaselking I know we've hardly spoken and you probably have no idea who I am but I love your love for Yeo Jin-gu. It's so cute and seeing your posts makes me so happy!

-runs away-

7

@mindy No, don't run!!! And I do recognize you! But wow, thank you so much. 😭😭😭 It's impossible not to adore Jingoo and as a fan I'm just so happy he's in a project that makes his talent shine.

6

@weaselking Hahahaha Jon-goo’s voice wins hands down!! And I Love now we are dissecting the different parts of him. May I nominate JG’s brows to be a contender?

10

@kimbapnoona Accepting the brows and now I challenge you with the cheekbones. Cheekbones as sharp as his acting prowess, damn.

*sorry for spamming the comment section with YJG's incredible features I can't stop help*

7

As a photo of Jin-gu prompted this ajummha to bleach her eyeballs after learning his age, I will refrain from debating whether Jin-gu is hotter than Jin-gu.

However, I do appreciate the highly elevated discourse of this debate.

I both apologise and refuse to apologise for posting said picture. People needed to be warned about the disturbing content so I could be sure they never had to see it.

I'm almost sure there's a universe where that makes sense.

7

The female lead in the drama, Lee Se Young calls him Wang Oppa (King Oppa) despite being 5 years older because as the saying as old as time goes, "If you're handsome, then you're an oppa." :D

10

For those wondering which photo I mean, please see this previously-published admonishment of those who insist in posting it

http://www.dramabeans.com/members/leetennant/activity/674396/

9

You guys are so funny you’re going to give me a hernia from laughing so hard

10

@leetennant your commitment to warning people about this disturbing content in order to prevent them from seeing it, and thus needing to bleach their elderly eyeballs, is admirable.

7

@egads
This ahjumma no longer feels shame, as you are well aware of my fondness for another charismatic actor in his early 20’s, demonstrated by my profile pic.

7

bleach her eyeballs

Huhuhuhu.

3

Ehhhh my eye sight is already so bad, bleaching it will make little difference. I’ll nust continue to squint at the dangerous photos, wondering what’s the harm in blurry cheekbones?

*finds glasses, checks out @leetennant ‘s warning*

Oh... so, that’s what’s dangerous...
*swoons into happy visions of oppa*

4

Haha I'm in this for Jin-goo clown.

"Park Shi-young" in the What's Wrong With Mr. Poong-sang description should actually say "Lee Shi-young"! @stroopwafel Just a heads up~

The cast of The Crowned Clown is so awesome, I'm definitely checking it out despite my general disinterest towards sageuks. Yeo Jin-gu's fantastic but his good projects tend to be few and far between, so here's hoping this is one of them!

Havent seen the movie but so far the story and the acting (for the most part) have been amazing!
Lee Se young is great but whenever I see the queen I cant help but think of rotting zombie girl...😬
