The sanctity of life according to Jang Ki-yong’s hitman in OCN thriller

Curiouser and curiouser. OCN looks like they have another hit on their hands with Kill It, formerly known as Blue Eyes, featuring up-and-coming leading man Jang Ki-yong (Come Here and Hug Me) and Nana (The Swindlers, The Good Wife) headlining in the action thriller. I’ve really enjoyed witnessing Jang Ki-yong’s rather rapid rise to leading man status, and I’m hoping Kill It will further cement his place in dramaland.

The latest teaser for Kill It is quite straight-to-the-point, and opens up as Jang Ki-yong assembles a sniper’s rifle on the roof of a building. He narrates that, “Life is precious, of course. As long as it isn’t a target,” while he aims and fires at an unknown target in the office building across the way. The clip is very much in line with OCN’s M.O.: It’s stylish and slick, with all the efficiency and subtlety of a professional hitman. Not that that’s a bad thing.

Jang Ki-yong will play a killer with a day job as a veterinarian, while Nana will play a detective chasing a serial killer, who may have also killed her lover. Hm, it definitely sounds like the plot is set up for a cat-and-mouse game between the two, which should be interesting if we as the audience are meant to root for both of the leads. I’m more interested in Jang Ki-yong’s character, as well, since we don’t know why he’s turned his back on being a professional hitman and taken up a double life as a vet. I love it when there’s a mysterious backstory to mine.

Kill It will premiere on March 16, and air on OCN’s weekend slot following currently airing Trap.

I'm super excited. OCN continues to deliver solid crime show, so hopefully this one will also be a satisfying drama. Plus, Jang Ki-young is seriously handsome in this teaser. 😍😍

Interesting~ a vet and a serial killer. So he'll be cute during daytime, all dark and twisted at night.

Can i expect some DotS parody in Kill It? Maybe not. He had a memorable appearance in Touch your Heart. Hohoho

I think he's a vet so he can also get access to certain drugs that are useful in his uhm... side job.

@mary, maybe JKY will be doing some "conscientious" killing in this drama?
Like Robin Hood, instead of stealing one's wealth to give it to the poor, he will be stealing's one's life to avenge the wronged.

@kimbapnoona So, Dexter?

@mindy
Now I totally want a K-drama Dexter, except maybe with less body dismemberment. 🔪👃👂🤚

@redfox,
Until such time as the column is revived, here's a vintage Beans of Wisdom with one of your zombie comments. ;-)

@oppafangirl,
Before DB was overhauled, it didn't have fan walls and a way to track a poster's comments. BOW was a weekly digest of pithy, hilarious, and insightful quotes from Beanies, selected by the Powers Who Be. Some of the comment threads that were highlighted were long indeed. The Cliff Of Non-Doom made its appearance in the above installment. Enjoy! ;-)

@pakalanapikake thank you for resurrecting the Hwarang memories. I don’t remember having had so much fun on a discussion thread since then 🤣🤣

You're most welcome for the trip down memory lane in Shilla. I didn't watch HWARANG (my sageuk spider sense warned me away), but I'm glad you had fun yakking about it. ;-)

@pakalanapikake wow, that was a treasure hole, thank you!!
@sicarius Sunbae I am so glad we got our zombie saeguk!!!

I am super excited for this, especially for Nana after the 4 brothers fiasco, I hope she shines. Jang Ki-yong for me is a forgone conclusion that he will be excellent.

Heehee I see what you did there :D

The teaser looks cool but wouldn't it be awesome if, rather than an elite hitman, he turns out to be a dramaland killer-for-hire instead?

Hello, my new daughter-in-law (who is poor and kind eew) knows that I embezzled the company's funds, I need a Truck of Doom on her, stat.

My underling is having second thoughts and plans to hand over Very Important Evidence to the prosecution. Luckily, he only has that one USB containing all of the info. You know what to do.

Kim Nam-gil is in a new drama. Get on it.

... and then Jang Ki-yong has to deal with billing screechy in-laws and bratty chaebols.

I love assassins with day jobs, but I particularly like it when their non-assassin persona is something deadly dull and non-descript, like a housewife, or accountant. Though a super model would work too.

That has to be one of the rules of dramaland: For every outlandish premise you can think of, a jdorama already exists with that plot.

You can request the license on Viki, which is what I am doing everyday!

(Note: You can also do the same on Netflix, but I don't like their subs.)

I am a big fan of OCN dramas but availability subbed is always a concern. I am pleasantly surprised that TRAP is available subbed as was my 2018 favorite drama LIFE ON MARS.

The plot reminds me of a book "Die Lebenden und die Toten" by Nele Neuhause and little bit of k-drama Remember You. We'll see if the writer is fond of german thrillers.

Thanks for the update on KILL IT, @tipsymocha. I'd missed the earlier article on BLUE EYES, which now has The Who running around my brain.

I've been wondering what Jang Ki-yong was up to, and now I have this to look forward to. He caught my eye in GO BACK SPOUSES. I tuned in for all of COME HERE AND HUG ME. It was so heavy that I've been hoping he'll act in a lighter vehicle. I might have to rewatch episodes of THE BOY NEXT DOOR. ;-)

Lol, I don't think Jan Ki Yong will be the serial killer Nana is chasing... but maybe she thinks he is. Feel like Jan Ki Yong is a killer for hire, rather, since he's seen sniping in these teasers. Either way, I'm watching tho!

I saw the latest posters...he was abandoned as a kid, lost his memory and was raised by a killer and became one himself. Until something happened and he changed and became a vet.
She was adopted by a rich family but then decides to become a detective.
I just hope they are not brother and sister...
