Drama viewership ratings for the week of Mar. 18-24, 2019

We’ve got a lot of new dramas on our plate, and it’s time to see what’s grabbing viewers. But first, we should see where the others stand. The Monday-Tuesday line-up hasn’t had much change, with The Light in Your Eyes in a strong lead while the others trailed behind. The JTBC drama’s final episode was this close to reaching 10 percent, but hey, a 9.7 ain’t half bad.

On Wednesday, medical drama Doctor Prisoner premiered at 8.4 percent and then jumped all the way to 14.1 percent the next day. Weekend dramas Mother of Mine and Confession premiered with high ratings as well at 22.6 percent and 4.6 percent respectively. The OCN thriller Kill It didn’t exactly kill it ratings-wise, but we’ve still got plenty of time for that. I’m excited to see where we go from here!

Maybe you saw the Seoul ratings? Not episode 10, but episodes 8 and 11 hit 10% with the final episode peaking at 12.083%.

Congrats Doctor Prisoner! I guess Liver or Die viewers migrated to Doctor Prisoner hence the high ratings in its first week. Having a somewhat mysterious plot and solid acting from the cast helps too. Hohoho

Just sharing what I wrote on reddit weekly rating post.

That Psychometric Guy episode 3 is the first time in 8 months for tvN's Monday-Tuesday drama to record rating below 2% since "About Time" final episode (1.771%, July 10, 2018).

Kill It first episode records the worst rating for OCN's Saturday & Sunday drama in 10 months since Mistress episode 7 (0.826%, May 19, 2018).

JTBC is absolutely killing it, in the past year or so especially. Good for them. I kind of relish seeing cable shows getting higher ratings than Big 3 shows. How times have changed!

JTBC's news team are the ones who found the tablet that incriminated the former president. I think it made a lot of people notice the channel who hadn't before. They took advantage of that by putting some well-spent money into their programming.

I'm not surprised with the low ratings for Kill It... at least I'm quite disappointed with it 😭
I guess I expected something else... something more clever (even me, a non thriller person, was often shaking my head)... Also, I thought we would peel the layers slowly one by one... not this linear story telling... I really thought we would first meet the hero as the vet, with friends, neighbours and patients around... and just with a scene here and there slowly uncover his real identity... oh well...

I'm going to give ep2 chance and adjust my expectations... but I feel like there are other dramas more worth my precious time, like Dazzling... or Boksu 😉🙂

I agree 100%. Maybe it would have been better to start with the murder and then slowly reveal the story from there?

Wow, I wasn't expecting Kill It to premier with such weak ratings, I hope they'll get stronger as the story (hopefully) picks up! I liked the first episode, it grabbed my interest, and the main leads do have some chemistry :D

KILL IT airs Sat/Sun at 10:20 pm. To me that does not seem to be the most ideal broadcast time.
I was pleasantly surprised that episode 1 was available subbed on my go to *alternate* site within 24 hours. I agree with your assessment of the first episode. I am looking forward to the next episode.

Doctor Prisoner and Fiery Priest are killin' it. These are two of the most highly rated leading men in Korea, so you know the audience is going to give them a chance and so far I am not disappointed. Fiery Priest has a great ensemble cast and a lot of humor. Doctor Prisoner makes you want to know what is going to happen next in the three dimensional chess game. I am looking forward to next week.

Are ratings for Reach of sincerity low, or are they considered good, since it's a rom-com?

I'd say they're fairly average for a cable show nowadays. Not high or low.

They are fairly disappointing considering the director's previous works but YIN and LDW have never been fully accepted as lead actors since they've played sub leads many times.

It's a far cry from WWWSK's ratings, but it's fairly comparable what BTLIOF's ratings were (sadly--the show deserved higher).

Lee Dong-wook has been a lead actor since My Girl in 2005, and Yoo In-na has been a lead actress on tvN many times (Queen In-hyun’s Man and My Secret Hotel).

None of Yoo In-na's drama as a lead have done well so I get why people aren't ready to accept her a lead just yet.

It's funny since the Chinese seem to really like the LDW and YIN pairing (because of Goblin). This drama is rated higher and by more reviewers on Douban (China's rating site) than many other 2018-2019 kdramas that have higher ratings in SK. "LDW and YIN should get married" trended several times on Weibo. Haha.

May be true for Yoo In Na but NOT TRUE for Lee Dong Wook -he has had shows with high ratings as a lead-My Girl,Hotel King and others where he was the lead-I think he is playing against type here which may not have worked with the viewers

Didn't he start out as a lead though, going back to My Girl? Didn't Lee Joon-ki play second lead in that? (I can't remember, I'm going by the posters...)

I want "Kill it" do well with ratings! There are so many good dramas during the weekend. No wonder the the local viewers must be finding it difficult to watch all at once.
I think Kill it will be watched mostly on the internet.

Confession is finally getting subbed! This show is so good! I'm glad Junho took the role, it's like watching a film, the story is told in a smart way.

I also started watching Kill it...Jang Kiyoung and Nana are doing well with what they can...I don't like the directing nor the story in the 1st episode, it's too linear and trying hard to be mysterious, kind of like twilight (stills are beautifull but the story is trash)...I hope it gets better, JKY deserves better!!

Yes! I just checked my go to *alternate* site and episode one of CONFESSION is available subbed. All three of the new dramas: DOCTOR PRISONER, CONFESSION and KILL IT should be available subbed. Thanks kdrama gods.
Re: KILL IT. I now have watched the first two episodes. I am not too concerned how the story is being presented but I am confused so I will probably have to watch them again.
Like you said Jang Ki-yong and Nana are handling their parts very well. The character Seul-gi is super annoying (credit to Noh Jung-eui). Right now I find JKY's presentation of his KI character quite similar to his Chae Do-jin in CAHM. I hope he really separates the two. Hopefully the ratings will rise. This will probably never be a big ratings winner.
