Reasons to watch: Jo Jung-seok, Yoon Shi-yoon, and Han Ye-ri star in this sageuk that takes place during a turbulent point in Korean history. Set against the real-life 1894 Donghak Rebellion, which was a peasant uprising, the drama tells the story of two brothers who fight on opposite sides of history. Jo and Yoon are half brothers whose fates are defined–and circumscribed–by the circumstances of the births. While both are the children of a nobleman, Jo Jung-seok was born a bastard to a local peasant woman, while Yoon Shi-yoon was born to a noblewoman. When growing tensions and political instability explodes into a full-fledged armed rebellion, Jo takes up arms as a rebellion leader while his younger brother Yoon Shi-yoon’s allegiance lies with the establishment. While the brothers dream of revolution, Han Ye-ri is a local merchant and a steely pragmatist who (seems to) be unwilling to stray outside her lane. An epic story deserves an epic cast, and Nokdu Flower definitely has both.

It's finally here! I'm soooo excited I can't stop reading articles on this show.

From Jung Hyun-Min who previously worked as a political aid for over 10 yrs before becoming a writer.

“Jo Jung Suk has the ability to play comical and deceitful characters, so when he was cast as Baek Yi Kang, the character became more colorful as a result,” he continued. “I am looking forward to seeing both Yi Kang’s sincere and lighthearted sides.

“Yoon Shi Yoon is a perfect fit for Baek Yi Hyun in terms of looks, but Yi Hyun is also a character who has a rich inner life. As an educated person in Joseon, he is always indecisive about what to do. I trust in Yoon Shi Yoon’s ability to make this side of his character relatable for viewers.

“Finally, Han Ye Ri is very similar to Song Ja In, who is strong-minded and purposeful. One of Ja In’s charms is that she mixes both provincial dialect and standard speech, and I believe that Han Ye Ri can do that well. More than anything, I’m looking forward to the chemistry between the three actors. If you’re asking me about synchronization, I think that they’re all 102 percent synchronized with the characters.”

Han Ye-ri was also praised for her Hamgyong dialect when she played a North Korean table tennis player in AS ONE (2012).

I feel like the timing is perfect for this drama!

It's exciting to hear the writer's trust and confident in the 3 leads in bringing his characters to life on screen as he envisioned them to be.

PD Shin did a great job with the casting. For once I have no complains haha.

I love the description of the main poster (above).

I think the ratings might be high from the 1st ep, with this cast and interesting plot. Also Fiery Priest kviewers need a new drama to watch, possibly they'll migrate to Nokdu Flower. Hehe

Passing from Kim Nam Gil to Jo Jung Suk...I think that's a fair trade lol Also both productions seems drastically different so that should pique ppl's curiosity/interest hopefully :D

Epic story and cast is right. Tbh, I'm not familiar with the 1894 Donghak Rebellion, but I'm looking it up now.

Excited for a new sageuk and I have not seen any of the 3 leads in a sageuk before. Hope it will be a success all around.

It's finally starting!! My most anticipated K-drama for 2019!! ^^
The promotion for this drama is kinda huge...the trailers are gorgeous, the posters are stunning, too many Nokdu Flower articles on the net... I mean, with all the amazing casts and the production, I'm sure it's one of SBS' biggest drama for year,, may this drama be successful and rewarding! Fighting YSY and JJS!!

Thanks for your Premiere Watch for NOKDU FLOWER, @stroopwafel! With rebellion breaking out in HAECHI's closing episodes, I feel as it it will be out of the sageuk frying pan and into the fire for me. ;-)

Judging from AsianWiki, the supporting cast is full to the gunwales with scads of excellent actors whose work I know.

Me too! I always thought hanbok top and the skirt should NEVER be of the same color, but Han Ye-ri manages to rock it here, and the other poster.
It looks like a gown, and in a good way 😍.
