Lee Seon-kyun, Jung Ryeo-won to co-star in new JTBC drama Prosecutor’s War

Lee Seon-kyun (My Ajusshi) and Jung Ryeo-won (Greasy Melo) have confirmed that they will star in JTBC’s upcoming Prosecutor’s War. Based on a bestselling book by Kim Woong who is a real-life prosecutor, this drama will depict the everyday office life of prosecutors from a rural district.

Lee Seon-kyun’s character is a prosecutor with strong survival instincts. He seems good-natured and unambitious, but he can pack a punch when he wants to. He works in the second investigatory unit of the Jinyoung branch office.

On the other hand, Jung Ryeo-won plays an elite prosecutor that goes from the central prosecutor’s office to the Jinyoung branch. Whether it’s a move that she wanted herself or was forced upon her has not been made clear. I loved her role as a sassy prosecutor in Witch’s Court, so I’m hoping for more of it from her.

Monday-Tuesday JTBC drama Prosecutor’s War, directed by Lee Tae-gon (Age of Youth), and co-written by Lee Hyun and Seo Ja-yeon, will begin airing in the latter half of this year.

Hoping for a slice-of-life type, without romance (or very low) .
Loving both leads + the fact that it's a Jtbc drama : I'll check the news about it :)

I'm really tired of court-themed dramas, but I like that this one will focus more on daily routine as opposed to courtroom drama. Plus, I know I'll tune in for both of them. Especially, Jung Ryeo-won. I love her.

You have to watch this with me, @javinne. :) It may not be My Ajusshi level of good, but LSK generally picks solid projects.

i really....hated witch's court. i feel as if she DESPERATELY needs to be a different character within this system for that. i wonder what the premise is/what they're fighting. they're both really great actors and the rural theme seems kinda city hall-ish? which is one of my f-a-v dramas lol

wonder what the aoy writer will bring. idk if they have penned anything else/what. is the book a thriller or? time to do some research. anyway wow theyre both beautiful

I have read that the book is a collection of essays and very funny to boot. Coincidentally, or much more likely not, about half a year ago Jung Rye-won posted on her IG that she stayed up way late finishing this book. So I think we can be confident we have a solid material for the drama.

As for the writer Park Yeon-seon, I think we could rest easy as well. She made Dramabeans "Top 10 favorite drama writers" and her credits include Age of Youth, Wild Romance, White Christmas, Mixed-up Investigative Agency, Alone in Love. Javabeans and Heads have very high regards for her: http://www.dramabeans.com/2017/02/top-10-favorite-drama-writers/

Omg Amara, I also really really hate Witch Court! I actually wrote a comment yesterday on this post but then I cancelled to post it. I just thought, I don't need to add negativity.
But on the other hand i also believe my dislike toward Witch Court, especially the lead female, lead is valid. She's the worst female character in my 2.5 years and 109 k-drama experience. She's outed a gay man in a court just to win her case! Ma Yi-deum is despicable. It's always baffled me when people praised JRW in Witch Court. She deserved a better written character. I hope she won't resurrect Ma Yi-deum for her role in this new drama.

YES. everything you said. it's interesting to hear other people's thoughts bc i honestly find her disgusting. omg 109 dramas?!?!??!?! but i agree as well about worst female character. i've never hated a character like that. and the outing was so crazy. how far did you get? i almost finished the whole thing because i thought she would get better.

i also think that JRW just wasn't fit for her. the writing for her character was bad anyway but she was also supposed to be way more forceful. i will say though that there were a lot of social issues presented and MOSTLY done justice. and i know in her speech for her awards she said she learned a lot about sexual assault. but whew....may yi deum....may we never see anyone like her again

Only 67 dramas completed so far, but yes, I do watch too much TV 😄
I watched until episode 8 or 10, because it was still in my early days of Korean drama. I should've known better.

I have never watched this actress before nor was I attracted to watch witch court, but after what you are saying of course I wouldn't watch it... seems like that was a wrong character for just anyone. Now, it is that good that I don't know her if I am going to watch this, so that I am not biased... 😅
Although, however the case, I will be watching for him and not necessarily for her...

I never watched JRW in anything except Witch Court, but I think the character is not her fault, really. LSK is always a treat to watch, if this new drama is actually good, I will watch it.

I think I've only watched her in Sam Soon. She wasn't a horrible character, but I was so on Sam Soon's side that now I'm looking at her with some side eye, lol.

If I was ever asked to name one actor and one actress who fit the description of Understated Powerhouse it would be these two. Couple it with the writer, this news is indeed the best!

i always been vocal about my admiration to Lee Seon-kyun works be it for movies or drama. I also don't know why but i have a soft spot on him since I saw him in 2012 movie All About my wife, followed by A Hard Day 2016 and Bad Police 2019. I haven't watched all his dramas but few of them were My Wife's Having an Affair this Week and Ajusshi and i liked all of them so i'll be hopping on this boat once it sail.
