Starship please! BY9 without Jungmo and Wonjin is a dealbreaker for me. Jungmo is one of the three reasons BY9 even exists. Can't Starship lend the boys to us for seven months?

And Woollim please! Why does Woollim want to reject BY9 when Rocket Punch is debuting and Golden Child is only two years old? I need a HwangKeum reunion.

I'd love to see BY9! Keum Donghyun, Hwang Yunseong, Song Yuvin and MOST importantly for me, Lee Jinhyuk! But you're right. Starship has just announced plans to debut a boygroup right? Doesn't seem like they'll be interested in BY9.

Jinhyuk was my one-pick. I know he was inconsolable in the finale, but in hindsight, being eliminated was the best thing to happen to him. This public outrage over his elimination will make Jinhyuk even more popular than had he just debuted in X1.

I never bought a Wanna One album, but I bought JBJ's, so BY9, my money is all yours! I have been depressed since Wednesday when Starship announced plans to debut a new boy group. Five of my top 11 made X1 (three of my four fixed picks even), but not enough for me to stan. Whereas I love seven members of BY9.

1

It certainly seems like not being selected may be working in Jinhyuk's favour. It's now all on his agency and how they caapitalise it - two variety appearances seems like a good way to begin with. :) I also think it's good they're letting Jinhyuk shine instead of lumping him together with Up10tion, because in a group, he won't stand out as much as he does on his own.

This is contrast to what Play M is doing with Byungchan. Fans were pretty upset at his departure too - though not comparable to Jinhyuk's not being selected - but Play M hasn't yet moved to capitalise on that in a big way. A fancafe event? I think. But that won't bring him before the GP.

Anyway, I'm curious to see what happens next re these two, and the Myteen guys. Kim Sunghyun of IN2IT...has been abandoned? The group is coming to my country for a concert sometime in August but Sunghyun hasn't been part of the promotions.

1

Byungchan's V LIVE is #1 on the Daily chart and VICTON OT6's V LIVE was top 3, so Play M is capitalizing. VICTON's V LIVEs have never had this many views and hearts. If four debuted idols were going to make the group, I wish it had been UPVICTON. I believed all of UPVICTON could have debuted because none of their core fandoms overlap. Conspiracy theories aside, for Byungchan to leave the show right before the finale, Play M must have realized he had a good chance to rank in the final top 10, so it would have been better to pull him now than pull him after he makes the group. Byungchan was clearly in pain when SIXC performed MOVE 2x speed.

Jinhyuk does get lost in UP10TION especially among their variety members, but he cannot go solo as he cannot sing. I hope UP10TION can benefit from this because they deserve it. I suspect Sunghyun is in Jinhyuk's situation in which IN2IT and UP10TION had prepared their comebacks pre-Produce X 101 and would have to rerecord and rechoreograph their promotions. Dongyun déjà vu.

Who was your one-pick? And top 11?

1

Ooh! I'm glad to hear about Byungchan's live doing so well. Yes - all those mistakes during the double/4x(?) speed dance - I laughed then but ouch.

For me my one-pick was Kim Kooheon, but once he got eliminated in ep 11, I switched (after much grumbling) to Han Seungwoo and Jinhyuk. But honestly Jinhyuk left such a strong impression in the last episode, that he's kind of become my one-pick "post" the show. Not that it matters.

1

My fixed picks were Jinhyuk (my one-pick), Wooseok, Hyeongjun, and Yohan. My top 11 had, not in order, five debuted idols (UP10TION, ½ VICTON, MYTEEN) + five babies (as Wooseok calls them "우리 애기들") + 우리 center. Three of my top 11 were eliminated in episode 11 (one in the most shocking elimination in Produce 101 history, one eliminated twice and revived). One of my top 11 dropped out before the finale.

For Jinhyuk's sake, BY9 must debut with all nine members or else the group will not be as successful. I am still heartbroken about Byungchan because if he had not made X1, he could have debuted in BY9. MYVIC10TION 💘 If Starlim must be substituted, my first choice is Byungchan who is impossible due to VICTON. My second choice is Kookheon who with Yuvin can hopefully boost MYTEEN's popularity, and third is Jinhyuk's son, Jinwoo. Kookheon and Haenami are conveniently ranked #21 and #22 respectively, and Jinhyuk is close with all three. I don't know if you remember, but I am a MYTEEN fan.

1

@panshel - oh! Thanks for reminding me about you being a Myteen fan! Then I can cry to you about Koonheon's elimination and Yuvin not making it, over and above the heartbreak of Jinhyuk not making it, and Byungchan dropping out! T_T

What are your thoughts about this drama regarding Mnet possibly having rigged/manipulated the votes?

Also, MYVIC10TION for the win!! <3

1

Mnet obviously inflated the votes. No one in the world believes Yohan and Wooseok received more votes than Park "Jeojang" Jihoon. As all of top 20's votes are divisible by 7494.44, I believe #10 Minhee's votes of 749,444 actually belongs to #1 Yohan*. Which is not even bad. 749,444 is more than double the votes #1 Jang Wonyoung received of 338,366 in Produce 48. Why is Mnet trying to make Produce X 101 look more popular when Season 2 was lightning in a bottle? Why did Mnet not just add an arbitrary number to the actual votes, say 200,000, rather than fudge with percentages?

*I want Yohan to be center because he appeals more to the general public, but I believe Wooseok is the rightful center, and his votes were manipulated by Mnet because the center cannot be a secondhand idol.

I believe all four X candidates made the group, but Mnet cannot allow two members of the same idol group to debut à la NU'EST. In that case, which three members of X1 were actually eliminated? Korean fans' recalculated ranking has been refuted; Tony's magical votes are a result of the common denominator. Personally, I do not find Junho's rank to be suspicious. He has been hovering around 11th for the entire season and was even 4th once. Moreover, Junho was the last trainee shown on the danger screen.

There is just no explanation for why Mnet did not rig Mingyu and Yuvin into X1 as both are PD picks with plenty of screen time every episode. The votes inflation predominantly affects the X, which screwed over Mingyu. How did his core fandom collapse like this in the finale?

MESS. Messnet.

1

@panshel - well said. Too little makes sense. Frankly I have no idea what happened in that final episode. There's no changing X1 now regardless of what happened re the votes.

Mnet may have requested to police to investigate and all, but I bet the police will find nothing amiss. Then, Mnet will be able to say that an impartial investigation cleared it - so all is good. No cause for suspicion.

1

I concur, the police investigation is only a formality. Besides the rounding errors (Why are votes even rounded??), which Mnet admitted to, the investigation will back up Mnet's claim that there are no changes in the ranking.

I am the most angry about the final decision for BY9 will be discussed after the police investigation is completed. What if the police investigation is never completed? Does BY9 never get to debut??

1

@panshel - very good questions. :(
While we wait for answers, at least Jin-hyuk is going on variety. I'm waiting for this week's Radio Star with much much anticipation. ^^

Hi Everyone and Happy OT! And thanks @mary!
Don't you just hate it when you think you're well enough to go to work (well medical leave only lasts for a day or two), only to find that the super freezing a/c gets you in the nose, throat, lungs, etc? And you end up coughing at a client's place.

Yeah, I had to go to a client's place today and the outside temperature was already lower than usual, so indoors it was more like Arctic temperatures for tropical souls like myself. I was looking like the only weird person, walking around with jacket, plus a shawl wrapped around me as a scarf … covering my head as well!!! LOL. Fortunately everyone politely did not stare. I had to finally get up and walk around or start shivering.

Shows:
I'm having a super fun time taking Hotel de la Luna (I refuse to call it Hotel Del Luna because even to my untrained ears it sounds wrong) apart meticulously. For those who don't mind slightly fuzzy screenshots, I'm soon putting up another collage of Man Wol's dresses on my fan wall. There were fewer wardrobe changes this time around, and not all as winning as the ones in the first 2 episodes, but Man Wol continues to look amazing, even when drunk and disheveled. The collages include stuff from the previous episodes too so don't get confused thinking that you missed some scenes because you never saw her in those clothes in Ep 3 and 4. 😜

A Moment at Eighteen - Ah a great teen slice of life show with all the characters having nowhere to go or grow, rather, except up. Even the parents can do with some growing up … and maybe cute Teacher too.

The doctor shows are pretty solid so far:
Doctor Detective got viewers in the feels over the plight of one young man, a small digit who was victimised and thrown away in the ruthless capitalistic, chaebol/big corporation world. Once again, I never wanted comeuppance for those heartless rich guys so much as in this show. But I think the most greatly hated award goes to the men who forcibly keep apart our FL mother from her young child.

Doctor John can ride on Ji Sung's acting and the relationship of the 2 main protagonists and be just fine. I've yet to catch the 2nd episode but I liked the first and I'm looking forward to @michykdrama's medicaps if she can find the time to write them.

Level Up - I'm not sure yet, but I am starting slowly with just one episode. I've been getting symptoms of withdrawal after seeing Kim Young Kwang looking so handsome in many gorgeous suits in The Secret Life of My Secretary, and then getting nothing much in suits since … so to feed the withdrawal, I may just opt for Sung Hoon looking debonair in more suits!!!

Aside from these, I'm trying to keep clear of other shows for now, until after August when I finish another volunteer 'project' of sorts that is requiring a lot of concentration and 'brain juice'. The latter, I find, I seem to have in limited supply nowadays (it's called...

Today was a totally 🤪🤪🤪 day at work. Had a lady with Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy (lets just say she has a bad heart that needed ALOT of tender loving care) needing surgery and it took us ONE HOUR to do the anesthesia before they could finally start the actual surgery and then do the operation. And I spent most of the 4 hours of the op standing up because she was so unstable. 🤪🤪🤪
But she survived and arrived in ICU and is doing well.

And that’s why I haven’t had time. Haha. And the fact that Fabry’s disease is super rare and I’ll need to do some reading before I can explain it properly. Haha. I think @ally-le would know more than me!

@michykdrama,
I'm so glad to see you! I came across this article a little over a week ago and immediately thought of Ryan. I hope it's helpful -- and that all is well with you and yours, Chingu. ;-)

"Google Glass May Have an Afterlife as a Device to Teach Autistic Children," by Cade Metz.

@michykdrama,

Here's another article that may be of interest in relation to diabetes and autism. I found it while watching MY ABSOLUTE BOYFRIEND.

Wow. I’m speechless after reading the second article.

So many truths!

This especially:
“I don’t want to “cure” someone of themselves. Especially not my son. I want them to be able to share that self with the world.”

THIS.

I think what made me so very very very sad and difficult to accept the diagnosis of Autism was that people were telling me that there was something wrong with my son, who I adored and brought me such joy. That they wanted to change him, and wanted me to change him. When I really love him so damn much just the way he is.

So yes. It’s about getting him to flourish in this world we are all in. Not changing him from what he is. It’s to allow the world to see just how amazing he can be and for him to be able to show that.

3

I also had no idea just how advanced AI is nowadays and this field of neuro technologies.

Certainly the future is uncertain and inequality is something we can never fully abolish but yes, tech is scary and sometimes when I realise my FB pops up ads of items I’ve only mentioned in passing to someone on WhatsApp; or when the phone can identify song names before I even ask it; I must say I wonder just what the future holds for everyone.

Oh yes and talking about social inequality- if you haven’t caught the critically acclaimed Cannes Palme d’or winner movie Parasite- you MUST.

Storytelling was amazing and it really starkly brought out the inequalities but without feeling preachy and was entertaining and well paced from start to end. I caught it in the cinema and I Highly highly highly recommend.

I have started writing a review for it on my blog as I really want to share how great it is, but it’s still languishing in the “draft” box. Need to get it done!!

Stick it on your clothing so that it heats up your core (bottom few ribs of ribcage).

Heat up the core of the body and the rest of the body will resist the cold better :)

But do be careful because some heat packs get really hot.

It was so good! Loved the development, loved the message, loved SSR acting (literally my favorite). My only complaint is that the ending seemed a bit rushed through our explanation of the perfume and a nice bow on top... I wish it'd had a few more episodes to develop that, or woven it in more earlier on. Still, definitely a gem.

I might be the only person who liked the fact that the perfume is still mysterious until the last episode and we were supposed to not see how Jaehee has been doing (except for having her own clothing shop for women whose weight doesn't fit Korean standards which is really awesome). I didn't even expect to have an explanation for the perfume but we got it so I am really glad. Hahaha

My thoughts about the magical perfume in Perfume

It was obvious to me in ep 15 and 16 how insecure Jae Hee still is despite having the courage and fire to defeat her awful husband.

Jae Hee never thought of stopping to use the perfume even after Yi Do knows her secret. It was Yi Do who persuaded her not to use it. When Yi Do was nice to her, she recoiled. She thinks he's overcompensating while he thinks she's his universe. I think that is why she collapsed and had to be applied perfume to wake up. Also the reasom why she appeared as Ye Rin at the perfume factory. She didn't take a moment to digest why did things happen, she just followed the flow. She immediately wanted to return to Yi Do after hearing ahjusshi's story but stopped when ahjusshi asked her: have you ever thought why the perfume turned you young?

The perfume didn't make Jae Hee love herself as is, it only changed her appearance, it did not alter her doubts or insecurities but it gave her an illusion to dream. She wouldn't have the courage to pursue her dream if not for her young appearance (also the thought that she has nothing else to lose).

The conversation with perfume ahjusshi was the turning point as she realized she need to love herself as herself, love herself in order to love others, to move forward and be confident in her own skin. She learned a lot in the past 6 months as Ye Rin, she also helped a lot of people along the way. Now it is time for her to step away from the illusion and be happy with her life as 40yo Jae Hee.

I actually like that they did not make Jae Hee changed completely as a Perfume effect. Change is hard and a long process. But she did change at her own will at her own pace. Yay!

Yi Do being nice but still has streaks of his eccentric personality was awesome. I learned the origin of spaghetti thanks to him, so random. I lol'ed at Mr Park's poor gift, Yi Do tossed it aside without even blinking. Hahaha

I'm so happy for both Yi Do and Jae Hee. Yi Do gained his family. I gotta say how much I liked the show subtly showing that Yi Do has accepted Min Suk as his bro, 1st he said don't bother you're sister in law , 2nd at the runway he jokingly said to Min Suk don't embarras our family. Awwwww...brosss!!!

Also how Yi Do learned the hard way to understand his mum. He finally understood how his mum felt after experiencing loss himself. One will never know how it feels, until one experiences it. He learned he needs to be compassionate and not only think of his pain and how much he is hurt, try to put himself in other people shoes. The scene broke my heart, both mum and son killed it.

It was a real torture to finish CLEAN WITH PASSION FOR NOW. I'm this desperate to earn my first bean for a 2019 kdrama. A fluffy romcom turned into a cliché-ridden and contrived melodrama in the last three episodes.

Words fail me how awful (and meaningless) this drama is. It might sound callous but I didn't care if she's suffering. Those ballads got on my nerves and I was not touched by them at all. The creators must have had a mental aberration to extend the duration of the last episode of this annoying story. The heroine's communication skills haven't improved during the past 2 years. She still tells a lie when she comes face-to-face with the hero and tells the truth while he looses consciousness or sleeps. I've already grown dislike the actress in the second half of LOVE IN THE MOONLIGHT, but after this drama she is on my blacklist.

It was painful to watch Sun Kyul in the last episode. His eager-to-please behaviour reminded me of a dog begging for scraps. He had to repent of his grandfather's wrongdoings. After the cruel breakup ("You did nothing wrong.I just got sick of everything. I can't even stand the sight of you. Let's end it here") and because of her tendency to not communicate with each other when needed I no longer considered Oh Sol worthy enough to end up with none of the guys.

I thought the story was about Oh Sol finding the dream job after having to content herself with a lowly cleaning job temporarily and Sun Kyul undergoing a treatment for his mysophobia (and they will be the inspiration behind each other's major life changes) to begin with, then they miraculously found a solution to their problems in life off-screen. To put it briefly, I've gained nothing from this drama (but my first bean).

The show was disappointing, but I felt Kim Yoo-jung is ready to take on adult role for the first time. She used to look too young to me (I didn't like Love in the Moonlight like others because of that), but she looked fine in this show.

@kbera IWantMyOwnBankGuy,

CLEAN WITH PASSION FOR NOW didn't really cut the mustard for me, either. It ended up being less than the sum of its parts, some of which were great (Song Jae-rim's character)

At least you've been spared the gazillion preemptions this show suffered during its run. It lost a lot of momentum when it was off the air for two solid weeks starting on New Year's Eve. I felt terrible for the cast and crew who were freezing their butts off, but at least they might have gotten a bit of a breather.

A couple of hours ago, I finished binge-watching MARRIAGE NOT DATING, and it was a blast. This is how you make a rom-com. Highly recommended, with a solid supporting cast of veteran actors. Han Groo and Yeon Woo-jin were great as the OTP. The writing and pacing were very good. The plot made sense, and the characters underwent no miraculous personality transplants. A good, solid romp with the requisite Noble Idiocy and eleventh-hour makjang.

Wow, kudos to you for actually finishing it! I just couldn't put myself through it. I do love Kim Yoo Jung though and find her and the bestie's friendship the only thing watchable here, but then again I dropped it after 2 episodes, so I might not know how she was in the later half of the show. But I would really like to see her in another better drama. But the horse shenanigans in the first (or second) episode made me laughed so hard I split my sides, it was so original.

I was also disappointed that Song Jae Rim is in another drama I couldn't watch. I am also not watching his other new drama (Let Me Hear Your Song).

Hello OT! We are having a great time on vacation, celebrating my son's 13th birthday yesterday, by going scuba diving! And me getting my phone waterlogged in the process--and now it may be done. I'll try turning it on again in a couple days to see if it's dried out. I broke my watch in the same fashion last year, so I’m not betting on anything good :). I blame @sicarius for my phone woes.

Thank you, Dramabeans and editors, for publishing my villain piece this month! If at first you don’t succeed, try, try again! Which is what I did with this piece, tweaking it for this theme-of-the-month. It was originally sent in for the scene-stealers month last year. I have a couple of these that I hope to resubmit, just waiting for the right time!

Also, I finally finished “Her Private Life,” which was sweet, but after not watching it for a few weeks, the chemistry fizzled for me that last episode. Sometimes, Kdramas are better binged or watched consistently to keep up the momentum.

I also started “Rookie Historian” on Netflix and I love this one. It reminds me of "Moonlight Drawn By Clouds," which is a good thing. The second prince is so cheeky, and I love that. I have eps 3-4 downloaded for the plane ride home and looking forward to every minute of it!

Hubby and I started “One Spring Night” until he got derailed by the a Star Trek series on Netflix Mexico (which apparently isn’t available in the US) so we’ve kind of hit a lull there. However, I do like it and love the leads in this one. It’s not as cracky as “Pretty Noona” was those first episodes, and the romance is a lot more understated, but still thoughtful, and I do like this director and the way he frames every scene.

It’s kind of a joke how dysfunctional everything we see in Kdramas is in my family. I do like the dysfunction on screen and not in my own life, though.

Conversation:

Hubby: Did the writer [of One Spring Night] listen to all the complaints and switch the parents? The father is the horrible one this time?

Me: And the mom is the same actress, but nice!

Hubby: Why so much dysfunction?

Daughter: I know, right? Someone kills themselves, gets killed, gets depressed. There’s nothing happy in Kdramas. AND A CAT DIED!!! [referring to Imaginary Cat]

Me: I guess there’s a 15-year-old age recommendation on these for a reason.

Moral of the Story: Life is depressing sometimes; Kdramas like to wallow in it.

2nd Moral: Maybe my daughter shouldn’t be watching these with us…until she’s older.

3rd Moral: Here’s praying that my phone works when I get back, or I won’t be on here as much! And saltwater and cell phones do not mix.

Happy Birthday to your son! Congrats @ally-le on getting published. Sorry about your phone. Cheers to a great vacation.

Where are you holidaying? I didn't dare bring my kids to scuba dive. Hubs and I are certified but we haven't dived since I had my first kid. I think my dive suit had disintegrated into tiny bits somewhere in the storeroom. We had an awesome trip to Maldives 2 years ago and the house reef was incredible. It's one of those things we wanted to do before the sea level increases more and the atolls disappear.

I began my Kdrama depression wallowing very young, and my mom always tells me I'm way too mature for my age. I don't think being exposed to the complexities of adult life as a child is necessarily bad. Kdramas have taught me a tremendous amount just because I'm at that learning age. I feel very prepared to face independence in the real world, and no matter what, Kdramas will always remind me that there's joy to be found anywhere!

let it air and blow dry those parts that are harder to reach (e.g. the charging port).

Your villain piece is really well-written,

The sim card port wasn't wet when I took it out so I'm hopeful. I'm not touching it for a couple to 3 days and then will try to charge it and turn it on when I get back home--it's not a big deal, but I did give a lecture just before I left and hadn't uploaded it to Youtube yet and I might lose that if the phone is dead--everything else isn't that important. I can always record the lecture again. And I have insurance on the phone itself.

Hi Everyone! ..... I hope you are all doing well today.

Perfume - I have to say that after a questionable beginning, this turned out to be pretty good. Shin Sung-rok as a man-child had truly funny moments.

Nokdu Flower - Deok-ki!! No!!!!

Hotel Del Luna - It's the IU fashion show and it's been a fun fantasyland watch so far.

WWW - Fantastic! Loved that Ta-mi and Morgan didn't end up married because that just wouldn't fit the story.

Designated Survivor: 60 Days - Ok, so this is turning into an interesting show. I'm liking the whole mystery aspect of it. ..... While it's just speculation, I'm guessing that Na-kyung has some sort of tracking device on that ring she's wearing.

Justice - I can't really believe that it hasn't occurred to Lee Tae-kyung that Chairman Song has had him followed since who knows when ..... because I'm pretty sure that didn't start just a few days ago.

That's all for now. Everyone take care and have a great Friday!

Hello beanies~~~

It has been quite a hectic week: juggling work, study abd drama watching~ heh

First, I had a technical assessment and I passed! Yasss!! Career progression! (though I'm kinda burnt with work)

Second, Perfume ended on a high!! It was an amazing ending. I want to gush about it..but I can't put my thoughts in writing. I will do it some time later. Soon I hope. Also now my assessment is over, I can put my focus on gif-ing and filling my wall with more Perfume~ hahaha

It actually has been a good week. A good week indeed.

Happy weekend Beanies!

A heat wave has been wreaking havoc around here, which is quite chaotic if you live in an unprepared cool climate. Trying to commute by train and finding sleeping spots have been creative pastimes this week :P. Next week our airconditioner gets installed at home, so future heat waves will be slightly easier to endure. Fortunately my workplace has airconditioners, so I could work and avoid the heat during daytime.

The perks of heat waves? We are not able or allowed to do much and can slow down or relax more. Many people found themselves bored because suddenly there was nothing left to do. Since I was on fire after finishing episodes 13 and 14 of Her Private Life last weekend (2 K-drama episodes in one week hurrraaay! :P), I grabbed this opportunity to watch parts of episode 15 this week. Which means that I might be able to finish all of Her Private Life this weekend and start catching up on Special Labor Inspector Jo in August. :P Look at me, whooping whenever I can watch something, while veteran Beanies probably have to tell themselves to stop juggling so many of them. :p

Airconditioner is necessary indeed. My parents felt bad for me because I had work in this heat,
but in the end they were the ones trapped at home with nothing to distract them or cool them off, while the airconditioner at work did that job for me. My work requires focus, so I i had my distraction as well ;)

I need to start episode 6 of SLIJ, and I really enjoy the Chief Kim vibes. Every episode another victim of unfair work practices calls for his aid, which gives some slice of life and heartfelt moments to balance the over the top reactions and humor. The victim stories are small parts of the giant web of wrongdoings of our big bad of course, so the more victims he helps, the more allies join his awesome squad (Kim Kyung-Nam is their president) :)

Anyway, I am not good at explaining or do not know your K-drama tastes, so I hope it helps. I got behind because I started working around its premiere and lacked time and gave priority to Her Private Life. ;)

Hello everyone! Nice to see so many familiar faces (names)! Miss you all so much!

I wanted to pop in and say a proper hi but today at work totally drained me (see my above comment to @growingbeautifully) so.... 🤪

Am wanting to start Hotel de Luna but No Time.
Want to start those Medicaps but.... omg I need sleep. And need to be coherent. Or else will just be rambling. (Like now? Haha)

Am watching the Taiwanese drama Before We Get Married and it’s like a guilty pleasure drama. It’s not just about adultery- it’s not that simplistic. I like how real some of the issues Puff Guo’s character is going through and sometimes the way she and 321 fight is how I fight with my husband. LOL. It’s about how people show and expect love in different ways, as well as how societal expectations sometimes get in the way of us just going for what we want.

And who am I kidding- jasper and puff are Smoking Hot together. I am told this week’s episode has a very hot scene. Hahaha! Am stoked. Did I also mention it’s tortuous cuz it’s only One Episode a week?!

Okay I neeed sleeep.... miss you all but will reply after I have concussed for a few hours. 😘

We’ve missed you as well! I’m still here (although not as routinely as before—I think I had 100 consecutive weeks on the open thread give it take a couple weeks)! How’s you son? I remember you needing to find another school for him, but deciding you would be more involved in the process or something similar. I hope he’s doing well. As a mom with a kid who is a bit eccentric, and with teachers that have never really understood him, your plight resonates with me. However, we just sent him to a camp where he was on his own for 3 weeks-had to do his own laundry, figure out when to eat, shower, sleep, and get his projects done, and he did great. It was an 11-hour drive from where we live, so a bit nerve wracking. He only missed one meal because he overslept, and only required a couple stitches and a couple bruises which he survived (a treasure hunt gone wrong). I also only got one call from the director who was very understanding about my son’s quirks. He’s growing into himself and his intellect, and it’s pretty neat to see. I hope the same for you. Glad you’re back and can’t wait to watch some dramas with you!

Congrats on the successful camp! I know how you feel- I keep feeling that way when my boy does something independently on his own. First day of new school was like that- I was expecting tears and drama, but he literally walked in, got his temperature taken (handfootmouth disease precautions as SG keeps having outbreaks in schools), turned around and said “Bye mommy!” And walked in without looking back. 😳

I was so proud you know? But also super anti climatic- the only thought I had was: “damn, that’s it? Why did I take leave from work for this?” Haha

And happy birthday to your son too! Scuba diving sounds fun but my sinuses would never allow it. Haha. Do let us know if you start lessons. And hope the phone manages to resist the salt water corrosion. 😬

I kept thinking of the book I had read “5 Love Languages” and how it seemed like that was the issue with all the dysfunctional couples. They didn’t share the same “love language”.

The book is by Gary Chapman and if you haven’t read it I highly recommend it. It helped me understand why I kept feeling like my husband wasn’t doing enough to make me feel loved, while he was feeling resentful because he felt like doing more than enough. Basically we weren’t showing love to each other using the same “language”.

https://www.5lovelanguages.com/2018/06/the-five-love-languages-defined/

Of course it’s exaggerated and they are making 321 exceptionally obtuse and inconsiderate, but still I do feel Some of what this book mentions can be relevant.

'Watcher' on hold. Dropped HDL. Need to check new dramas A Moment At Eighteen and Rookie Historian.

Truth is I've been sucked by the tentacles of Go Go Squid. Initially I thought it was pure fluff but there are more interesting topics and characters than I expected. Plus, I actually like the FL. Don't be fooled by her appearance, her fashion sense is eh.....no words but she's got a good head on her shoulders. Plus she's a genius(ha! how many FL geniuses are there in kdramaland?) without being a geek. During a break up, she can't stop her tears just minutes before an important presentation but she more than delivers and then promptly went back to crying, LOL! Her idea of getting over heartache is writing programs. Her only weakness at this point is the guy. I'm waiting to see how he's going to redeem himself.

C dramas are usually 40 to 50 episodes long. It deters me too but the scariest thing is once I'm hooked, I will binge watch them all. I don't need subs so there's nothing to rein me in as long as new eps come on ahead of me.

6

The fist season and second season is combine. That is why it is 48 episodes. It also have been approve regarding censorship. Smooth sailing.

Longest Day in Chang'an episodes fly by. Like @outofthisworld, I have to work to ration the episodes. So far, it's one of my favorite Chinese-language dramas ever.

Lot's of good background history (literally) at the in the show's lively comment section at mydramalist.

I’ve found @endlessthoughtsofafangirl's tumblr posts about the series to be quite enlightening. They’re full of photo stills from Weibo and you don't need a tumblr account to read her explainer posts about the first three episodes—with maps and character summaries—, an illustrated post about the ancient Chinese system of telling time, and why Li Bi's hairpin points forward instead of sideways.

4

@tsutsuloo
Okay, maps, diagrams, explanaTions? I think I'm hooked and will give this a try.

Go Go Squid is amazing. I have not been as obsessed by a drama in a long time. I watched 21 episodes in about 2 days and I can't stop thinking about it. It's so well done and I really hope the second half of the drama delivers as much as the first half. The characters are all great and the actors who play them are perfectly cast. And great chemistry between them. I can't recommend this drama enough.
